Ohh..this is produced so well!....Man I didn't know you could get so many flavours in one dish..tremendous tune!.the little toots of baritone are the icing on the cake..there is so much space for the track to unwind, the definition is superb..I think from a production standpoint this is way up there with your best work..great bass playing and the way you've mixed up the vocals works brilliantly....people are going to listen to this and think Wow, those guys are way good..when they find out it's one dude on his creative lonesome their going to fall over....dis is de best mon!..cheers Dave :)

Hi Toddj, Ska is awesome! I grew up on the stuff, at one point it's all I listened too. I have decided to stay in this genre from now on and see what happens. Thanks for your positive words...

Hey Slap Man, smokin' ska track and great social commentary. It's funny you should mention The Specials "Ghost Town" track. I remember stateting to you the last time I e-mailed you that, that was one of my all time favorite classic ska tracks. Working on a track now that I would love to have you blow your horn on.
As always, great music Slap; Peace. D

Great vocals Slap, a lot of feeling behind the lyrics too, very upbeat and funky. Drums are great, and as always the horns are fannnnnntastic.
Great job Slap.

Hi Helix, I'm glad you like the vocals (I don't class myself as a singer). This credit crunch thing needs to go away. It hasn't effected me as such, but the people it has I really feel for. I hope things are cool for you down in Wales...

This is a great lively tune! Entertaining from start to finish! I especially liked the sax/flute/sax/flute between 2:00 and 2:30-and the percusson and drums were off the hook!! Vocals and lyrics very well done. I enjoyed this one!! Fila

I love this Slap, it's a masterpiece. Everything sounds perfect, I love the Solos at the 2 minute mark. Vox sound great, guitar is fantastic. I really like this one, brilliant work.

Hi Helix, I put sometime in on this one, I can tell you. I was a little worried people would think it was a bit to pop rather than Ska, but so far the reviews have been positive. Thank you!

great vocal accompaniement to this, a lot diffrent to almost anything iv'e heard before! the beat is really original, nice time signature, and a sweet horn line! really good track!
SLAPJOHNSON
SLAPJOHNSON replied Unknown
Hi lorin, thanks for the comment on the vocal (sometime the singing get's bypassed). The horns on these tracks are huge, Ive pulled everything out! 2 alto,2 tenor,1 baritone, 2 flute, 1 clarinet & 1 soprano. Time signature is 4/4, but it's a funk kit I've used and there's some great rhythm playing going down... Thanks for the kind words..

Cheers Slap...

I devoured my way through Ska...as you rightly state it's a great night out when this style is played..always! (provided you kept out of the way of the local skin-heads..lol)....This is....Fantastic!..talk about capturing the pre Raphaelite area of ska...I'm waiting for Ian Dury to walk through the door and start clapping..man when you dig into the SlapJohnston bag of musical experiences ..you need a bloody long arm!...awesome work!(I don't like to use that word much..it's been applied in too many inappropriate situations...however this track..as you once said is the Dog's Bollocks!...cheers mate..Dave :)

Loving that horn line, very nice work mate. Would you allow me to make a remix with those horns? If not, no worries. But I had to ask on this one. : )

Cool stuff anyway, nice to see someone just doing what they love, it's infectious.

Hi End, do you just want the horn loops? If so, give me a few days to get the RPM 09 out of the way and then I will upload them...

Mon I mon InI know the horns too. I grew up playing alto and tenor sax. In HS learned the brass section from Tuba all the way down to french horn. When I discovered ska and reggae in college and saw bands like The Skatalites and Burning Spear with their unbelievable horn sections..... well I'm jahknow now. :)

good times slap. 5

Except, why is it you aren't on tour with a funky skank band?

This absolutely rocks the house in a real fun way. I feel my arse jiggling a lil.
Very nice slapster.

SLAPJOHNSON replied Unknown
Jahknow, that's a very Rasta kind of name, so I guess if you dig it, it's got that upbeat reggae feel kind of right. I used to be in a Ska band, and it was great fun. If I was to take this sound on the road I would need a nine piece horn section. Now that would be cool!
Thank you for your time...

In the first few seconds, that drum intro is awesome. As per usual, the horns are fantastic, the vox that come in are great. This track has loads of energy and had me tapping my feet all the way through. No critisicm at all with this one, everything is perfect. Great wotk Slap, the king of cool.

Thanks Helix, it's been a while since I've been in this mind set. Ska off beat is a feel, and I remember a room full of people enjoying it's rhythm, I was hoping to capture it's true flavour but I was also trying to make it sound present day. Your encouragement and support is most welcome.

on The shit end of town Jump the Q by SLAPJOHNSON
This reminds me of a place I useta live back in the last few years of High school. Man, it was hell. Country parts of NC are kinda boring, but atleast we had the beach to kick it on during the summer (lived on the second row in from it). The nearest town was about 25 miles away (depending on if you went through base or used the civilian roads). And it evolved from one-horse-town. So yeah, it stunk (it was also the poorest county in NC, oddly enough).

So this song does a good job of taking me back there. I could picture sitting in one of those hole-in-the-wall bars just to the south of town on high way 17, with all of the regulars (good ole boys) off in their corners, and this comin on the jukebox. Sitting at the bar with an almost empty bottle of Corona in hand. Wishing like mad that I could be anywhere else, but there. Course, on the bright side, the chicks in that area were easy. So (shrugs)... Thanks (not so much) for taking me back. Haha, later on mate!
