Thanks man....I know that feeling well. Most of my tracks have some type of accompanying vocals...in my head. Getting them on to a track is a whole different story. I appreciate you taking the time to listen and leave a comment.
This is pretty jammin my friend! It does remind of if the Doors had a second guitarist or something. The drums have a pretty vintage sound to them which is nice! Before you add to the kit, remember that old blues and blues rock groups often had pretty minimal drum kits. That said, adding some more drums could give a more updated sound. I really enjoyed listening! Faved for sure!
Hey bro...thanks for the idea. I had not thought of this in a Doors kind of way but now that you say it I can kinda hear a Morrison type thing going on over this. I will have to take some time, when I get some, lol, and see what I can come up with. I am a big Doors fan. I agree with you on not getting to fancy with the Drums. It's one of the things I love about the Black Keys. They keep their sound very minimal. Especially the drums.
Thanks for giving this a listen, it's appreciated.
Hi TV,
Good to see one of your tunes here...
I have to second what the others said: your production has improved. You still manage to keep that "live-played" feeling that I appreciate so much in your work, but this song is more polished.
Adding voice to this is not "strictly needed" as it works well also without, but I have to admit that I would be really curious to see what can come out of this with the right vocal track on it :-)
Take care, Domenico
Thanks Domenico, I have tried hard to get better at the production part of recording. I must admit that on occasion I find it some what more interesting than the actual playing of the instruments themselves. You really get to shape the sound and it gives you a lot of creative room to bring the song to life. I was going to leave it without a vocal but Spivkurl has given me an idea to take it in a Doorish vibe. Might sit down and try and workout something in a Mr Mojo Risin vain.
Thanks for taking the time to give it a listen and for leaving some feedback. It is greatly appreciated my friend.
Welcome to America the land where freedom is endangered! I know there's ways to EQ the drums and give them a better sound.I have a large collection of single hits, many just suck haha I need to experiment alot more with drums. This is definitely metal :P Some Judas priest like vocals would sound awesome on this :D
Thanks bro...I agree, more can be done with the drum sound. I need to take the time and go with a multi drum out and eq each piece of the kit. Right now I just output the drums to stereo. Maybe I can make a drum template and save it. This way all I will have to do is go in and tweak it from song to song. Thanks for taking the time to check it out.
Well here is some tasty stuff! Always love hearing the heavier pieces on here. Great flowing lead lines and ear candy throughout. Just enough modulation to do the job but not so much as to distract. I wore a grin for the whole listen. Thank you.
Hey man, thanks for those super kind words. Always nice to get some positive feedback on a track. I feel like this one and When the Queens are probably my 2 best tracks. Would love to get some lyrics/vocals on them. I appreciate you taking the time to listen and for leaving some feedback.
How the f..k I missed this song? I think it's a superb one...man you got special sense how to make an awesome song from 3-4 chords (good musics don't need more :-)...
FAN of your guitar tone and solos...man, make something together... well?
Danke, my friend, what up bro? I honestly don't know a bunch of fancy chords. I just play what I feel and hope that it works out. I also appreciate the kind words on the lead work...I have never been comfortable playing lead but it is a passion. I would love to work together sometime. I think that would be awesome. I love your arrangements and the patience you have to do an awesome build. You can always reach me at Toppervega@aol.com. I look forward to doing something in the future.
Thanks SP...yeah I have struggled to escape that "live" label but I guess I need to just embrace it and go with it. :) I hope to someday have vocals for this. Whether that means I have to sit down with some good herb and brainstorm or if someone who can actually sing decides to do me a favor. :D
I appreciate you taking the time to give this a listen and for leaving some feedback. Nothing worse than creating a track that you really feel is your best and nobody caring either way. I am humbled by the feedback I have gotten so far. Thanks.
Thanks bro...I like JamStix for the fact that it really gives the sound of a real drummer..for good or bad in some cases. :)
The "change" at 105ish is Toadies inspired. Another band I absolutely love. I would recommend their album Rubberneck to everyone.I appreciate you stopping in and giving it a listen and leaving some feedback. I feel like this is definitely my best track so far. It's nice to know others like it as well.
very welldone man ! I'm agree to Steve Crucethus about the genre buT no matter whaT genre includes it I was convinced for Fav mark . I had listened your Rock traX before too , and as I remember U were always very good in rock & heavY ,& meanwhile I like your loops too,buT according to I have listened tallented Static traX and yours too , I can underestand your nice description and anyway it's great what U've done.best wishes.___Behnam
Thanks for the kind words and for taking them time to give a listen a drop a comment. I can hear Wayne Static singing over this so I think that is the main reason I say Static X inspired. Again, I appreciate you taking the time to listen.
Never would have associated this with Nazareth but I think I I know where you are coming from. Love Nazareth by the way. Thanks for taking the time to give it a lsiten and for leaving a comment.
Thanks man...sorry it took so long to reply. If you took the time to listen and leave a comment, I should at least reply and thank you. It is people like yourself that keep me doing this...
i like that .... sounds like you need a hook and some definition between the verse bridge chours parts .... if you like send me the stems (full length audio parts with no effects on them) & midifiles ill see what i can do for you ...
Yeah this was pretty much an attempt at capturing a riff and vibe. Definitely needs a change or two. I will look for the master and render the stems this weekend and send them to you. Thanks for checking it out.
Thanks, let me know how it goes. Appreciate your review as it seems I won't get many on this one. It is always funny how most of the tracks I like and put the most effort into seem to be the least commented on. Sometimes it makes me think about quiting but I never do.
To adjust velocity of your drum parts, should be just that you open up the MIDI part on your sequencer's timeline. Under all the notes, you'll find parameter data and 'velocity' is probably the default one you're shown (though you can choose to see others too eg pitch). You should be able to select a bunch of notes and increase them all by a certain number of points (the range is 0-127) or do things such as specify maximum and minimum levels, which can be useful when you want to keep their relative levels to each other intact. I hope that makes sense, though I guess if it doesn't you'll probably just discover it for yourself anyway.
One way to view the addition of a second kit is that it's just a bit like saying 'add more physical drums to your one, single kit' a bit like someone such as Neil Peart of Rush does (his kit has loads and loads of toms and cymbals). Having two snares can be cool, for the obvious technique of using one for one section, one for another (eg verse/chorus).
I use multiple kits on pretty much all my tracks. For a hard rocking track that might suit you, check out Debt Black Hole as it has 4 kits on it and a lot of complex, layered drumming in styles ranging from jazz to extreme metal.
Good luck with vocals. I would also love to find vocalists but would much prefer to work with some in person rather than do online collaboration. If I'm going to collaborate, I don't want it to be via sending emails back and forth, needs to be together in the same room.
I am going to play with adding kits this weekend and see how it goes. I like the idea of switching kits for different parts. Never thought to do that. Great idea, thanks.
That's an awesome sounding guitar dude. It would make Ace Frehley jealous. Is it a Lessy?
Critique: Dude, you gotta get rid of the drum machine and get acquainted with drum loops. Machines sound like machines. Loops are actually musicians recorded so they are far more organic than machines. And really when you play against a loop some high quality musician recorded, you are in fact jamming with that human being across space and time.
Plus actually using loops is WAY easier than fussing w a drum machine.
Anyways the human stuff sounds hot. A couple good loops would light your beat right up. :-)
Thanks brosef, I appreciate the kind words and the critique.
The drums are actually not a "drum machine" but a drum sequencer called JamStix 3. I will be the first to say I don't do them justice. I have not a clue on how to get the best sound out of them. I have heard others who have and the program is really good at giving that "live drummer" sound and vibe. I started out using nothing but samples but got lots of criticism at how stale and monotonous they sound. I am currently working with Addictive drums for all my new tracks. I have been playing guitar for many years but the whole producing and engineering is brand new to me and I am still learning everyday. I do plan on going back in and seeing if I can rework the whole drum part. Might try using a loop and Addictive Drums.
Thanks again for taking the time to listen and leave a comment.
Oh yes, definitely take the live band sound comment as a compliment. That means it's got lots of energy and dynamics and doesn't sound lifeless and planned out on a sequencer grid (even if some of it is).
Yes, I'm also a guitarist first but have got a lot better at production over the years and made massive improvements in the last 2.
The two big advances have been getting much better drum software and also the automated use of EQ. You can spend ages getting a decent guitar sound but it still just doesn't sound right at some points in the track. And you can use EQ creatively. It's not hard, you just have to listen carefully and try boosting it a bit and then coming back to it the next day to see if your change has helped or if it jumps out at you as being undesirable.
If you've got too much noise on a guitar part, there are a few, more specific, tools you can use to remove but I tend to just remove the high frequencies. I find most of my guitar parts are really boosted/excited by increasing the middle frequencies a bit.
I hate reading guides to how to produce and engieer so I just spend lots of time doing and learning from my mistakes and being humble about how good something is and always thinking hard about how it can better. And then I eventually do make it better.
Stick at it and you'll get better and do your guitar playing the justic it deserves.
Thanks and I hear you on the production part. I am enjoying that more and more now. It really is an art all it's own. I have been reading up on the art of EQ and dicking around a bit with it. Thanks again for all the pointers.
Good to see you're using Addictive Drums - something you said you would a couple of months ago. I was thinking about this just the other day.
Instantly I would recommend lowering the velocity of that kick. Maybe turn it down but I think the problem is more that it's playing at pretty much the top velocity. Ask if you're not sure what I mean.
Your drums could do a bit more as they're a bit simplistic and you might think about having a second kit for variety ( I do it a lot).
The rest of the playing is good (and my kind of thing)though maybe you should go with just the one guitar at certain points as maybe it's a bit too intense doubling the pair up. You do do this (drop one of them) but I think it might help to do it more often in this track.
Are you looking for a vocal for this?
If so and you get a good and distinctive one, it could be a really classic track.
Thanks for the pointers bro. I will try and lower the kicks velocity, I am pretty sure I know how to. I also will tinker with adding a second kit to the mix. I was considering dropping the one guitar for a couple small parts so right on with that as well. Just wanted to get some feedback before putting in any more time on this. As for vocals, I am always looking for them. Just don't ever seem to find them. Got lots of ideas in my head but singing them is another story.
Thanks again for all the help.
Blues is close to home territory for me TV so you gotta know I liked this one....blues and your rock style go together like they were meant to....reminds me of some good times...(I think good-time blues are legal now)....Right on....Ed
Thanks Ed, love getting feedback, especially positive feedback. I appreciate your taking the time to listen and leave a comment. I am a huge fan of the blues, especially The Black Keys. Thanks again for the kind words.
Thanks for taking the time to give it a listen and for your honest opinion on the plus and negatives of the track. I will track down the master and see if I can improve the mix in the ways you mentioned. I am guilty of being a guitarist first and a producer last.:) Hence the over the top levels on the guitars, lol. I am not sure if I should take the live band part as a compliment or not, but it is what it is. I have had zero experience mixing and producing before this so I am not sure how else to go about recording and not getting that "live band" sound. Hopefully my skills will improve in the future. Thanks again for the listen and for taking the time to give some constructive criticism.
Wow! This felt like time travelling... the spirit of the 70s is all around this track.
I liked everything. Probably it could work well with a good vocal part.
The solo-guitar parts are perfect: not a single rough edge. Good!
The rhythmic part is solid and pleasant. I liked the chord progression.
Overall, a really good song.
Ciao, Domenico
Thanks for the kind words Domenico, they are appreciated. I feel that this is probably my best track to date and one of the few that are done. It could use vocals but even without them it feels complete. Thanks for taking the time to listen and leave a comment. It helps to get feedback.
down n dirty this sound is. I could see you expanding this tune. By kicking ass like this tune does, then bring the verse down to just drums and a bass line (like the pixies used to do) then blast us in the chorus with this guitar sound, all along with a stone roses like vocal, then you would have one hell of a song!
Thanks bro... Appreciate the kind words. I agree with your ideas and when I track down the master I am going to try and implement them. If I can't find them I will re-record this and work them in. Thanks again for listening and leaving a comment.
Thanks for the feedback. This is a rough mix so yeah I will bring down the Guitar level a bit and boost or hopefully replace the drums. Thanks for taking the time to give it a listen and for leaing a comment.

But this is cool - fairly relentless rocking, really. Loads of good lead work, though I think some of it's probably too loud.
This would be really classic in a live situation - the kind of stuff people love to move to.
It also pretty much sounds like a live band rather than one guy doing each part separately in a studio.
Excellent playing but you could make the mix better.
