What the hell is going on in that marshland, Is that screaming or a creature? Sounds like someone is being eaten alive by wild animals after being tied to a tree or scaphism (they did that in the middle ages)! This is awesome Dan! Does this marsh happen to be anywhere near the cemetary we did one about? The peepers were out the other night, I almost recorded them. I'll get them this summer.

Thanks so much Burt! I rely on you for my horror education. My samples just naturally sound horrific, but in this case there was no intentional connection with swamp-based torture scenes. I had one bug sample left over after this venture, which I have applied to a new track. Then I'm done with bug samples for a while.

I used to kayak all the time and hearing this track reminded me how awesome it was, minus any mosquitoes. I would see all kinds of wildlife. One day me and a deer stared at each other about 70 feet, 20 meters or so apart. I broke our stare a good 15 minutes into it and paddled away, it was a good moment.

Thanks Dan for bring me back there!

I have a recollection of an early morning close encounter with some deer as well. This while camping once with some other summer campers. But wow - 15 minutes is a long stare! Anyway - I'm really happy if you connected with the track. Best regards - Dan

considering your objective of conveying that marsh picture I think you have the vibe pretty much nailed Dan...Its a soundscape...mind pictures kind of musical piece so I think each listener will hear their own thought variation on it...Maybe with the marsh dance aspect in mind it could flow into a gentle water rhythm section...I can imagine it being fun to create from a picture concept...very nicely done by the way...will try to check back & hear where you head with it....cheers...Ed

Do you have an instrument in mind for a melody? I'm overdue to play on my 6 strings, maybe I can record something melodic. I know you shared this with me, but I'll download this version and see if anything comes of it. I can hear some slow maybe droning melodic playing. It's like being in that marshland after someone slipped a little something in my coffee ;) Too short for sure!

well - the insect chorus has had its day. gonna try writing some music for the next track, maybe even real chords and instruments. thanks for checking this out Burt.

Although I usually wouldn't listen to soundscapes, I must say I was pleasantly surprised by your upload. For me, music it good when it touches me somehow, or when I feel something with it. I definately felt something here, a bit like drifting in water, on my back, away from the shore, and still feeling OK with it. If this track would have been 10 minutes or more, I really wouldn't have minded :).

The cracks I hear every now and then, is that clipping?
DanGoldstein
DanGoldstein replied 4th Apr 2016 - 9 years ago
the track evolved a bit since you were kind enough to have a listen. added a few sounds. tried to develop a "line" It was a fun project. learned a lot about modeling sounds and mixing with this one. I ended up nevertheless with a little bit of crackle here and there in my effort to get a louder result. thanks again for checking this out.

This one is definitely ambient at its core. Something very intriguing about these sounds. It conjures up images of electricity for me though :P I'm really liking all the ambient stuff being uploaded, yours included :)

The bass line and awkward time signature makes this seem like a "Sinister march of the Insects". Don't get me wrong it's a brilliant idea and sounds awesome but scared the living shit out of me when I listened to it. I hate bugs!

Good work though

yea - I can rarely post loops because they are banned for not being in straight 4/4 time. I like the odd-meter stuff can't deny it. I was going for ambient effect mostly but I ended up with a couple of pretty scary sounds. Hope you are better now! Thanks for the listen and positive comment. Dan

Very interesting.
I love the weird side of creativity.
Next time I see a flutterby as my granddaughter calls them it's going to be a whole new experience.
There's a flutterby palace in North Wales and I stood watching a huge one tapping it's foot against the log it had landed on. Pointed it out to my wife and she said oh yes and look ... every other tap the opposite wing vibrates. Now I know why ... it'd been round your place!
But next time you see a flutterby charging up it's solar powered wings watch for the foot tapping and think .... Is it one of those aluminium ones from Monsanto?
I'm going to think of you and this place a lot this summer!
Unusual and wonderful.

DanGoldstein replied 17th Mar 2016 - 9 years ago
it was a fine line between animating the butterfly and making a monster out of her (and the other insect sounds for that matter). yea - all the high self-esteem monarchs drop by my place for the latest moves, you are right. glad you got into it. thanks. Dan

nice work... I see it a a pure rhythmic composition: not focused on harmony but solely on the rhythmic interactions of the little insects that can be found in the butterfly's world.
maybe the connection with the butterfly is not so "obvious": we usually regard them as more "ethereal".
but in general is a very interesting piece of music.
you never cease to create new things... good!
DanGoldstein
DanGoldstein replied 16th Mar 2016 - 9 years ago
i had hoped for a kinder, gentler butterfly effect. but perhaps my frame of mind during the 'Tang' process did not permit it. I ended up with the 'aluminum winged butterfly' or just say the 'iron butterfly'! The track became something harder, edgier than I had imagined.

But I am happy if I conveyed someething of the butterfly's perspective on her world. Thanks for your listen and considered comment mr. wolf.

Well, I checked out the image and immediately rolled my eyes. I thought oh here we go a pretty butterfly song. lol.
But you're track is a real piece of art!
Well done. I got right into it.
The bass created a real sense of paranoia for me or maybe I was just experiencing a flash back to my Rastafarian roots ;)

In German butterfly is called Schmetterling, which can be translated into something like "smash-ling". Not so innocent now, isn't it? Try to say Schmetterling in an aggressive manner, and it fits well with those aluminium wings :D :D :D . Interesting track you did, I love those weird tracks!

You always have very nice and interesting sounds when I hear your tracks. The drums underline it even more. Very clear mix and great use of the panning synth. I agree with Danke that it sounds more like a lot of mosquitos flying around your head when walking through a warm and dense forest. Nevertheless the track feels like a nice picture and is well done!

thank you mudhoen. i have been on that walk you describe a few times. but the butterfly insisted on a say in this track and I have at least temporarily exiled the mosquitos.

Interesting interpretation of a butterfly Dan. I've never looked a butterfly and thought of it as ever being aggressive or industrious but I suppose at some time it has to go about his butterfly world taking the good as well as the bad.

The drum part at the beginning I thought of as it's tiny heart beating and starting it's day. Then comes the stress and tension of the daily life of a butterfly, fighting winds, looking for a bite to eat and avoiding bug zappers.

Thanks, that was different!

I can see industrious - but aggressive - maybe in somebody's horror movie. and maybe this could be some music for that. thanks for the great comment, wayne. great to hear from you. regards - Dan

Sounds good. This'd be great for a runway Lol, but looking at the other comments I can totally picture a butterfly hearing this on the daily haha. Pretty intense, I like it.
DanGoldstein
DanGoldstein replied 5th Mar 2016 - 9 years ago
I honestly don't know what a runway is - except the thing an airplane takes off from. I suppose a "flutter" effect might be more easily associated with a butterfly - but it is developing into a sort of insect inspired as much as butterfly inspired track. But I'm glad if you were feeling the butterfly. thanks for commenting. Dan

Really cool Dan! Is this how the butterfly hears the world? That's what I think of looking at the pic and listening. I wonder how it looks through their eyes too!
DanGoldstein
DanGoldstein replied 5th Mar 2016 - 9 years ago
sights and sounds from the butterfly's view - yea - that's pretty much the concept. actually - Drew Relf has taken the threads and come up with a long "journey of the buttefly" sort of narrative which gets back to some gentler material and these harsh threads in the background. I'm sure you will see some of it posted on facebook pretty soon. thanks for stopping by Burt. I hope to propose a collab soon. Dan

great catch of the moment though Dan...

DanGoldstein
DanGoldstein replied 5th Mar 2016 - 9 years ago
yea - you are right, Danke. It really has more of the buzzing insects about it than the silent butterfly. probably a flutter effect would be more easily associated with the butterfly. The track is morphing somewhat now - in a developmental stage - may come closer to a butterfly feel or depart all together. We shall see. Sometimes the track tells us what it wants. You know?

I started listening to this, and then felt the desire to go and view the painting... not surprising that the painting felt instantly connected with the music! It's like I could see it before I clicked the link, within the music. Very creative stuff. I think that you coaxed some good sounds out of the single synth, and I could see the frequencies being even more broad if the sounds were created on different instruments... but then the whole "vibe" may be lost, so it might not be worth it. I really like this one! Thank you for sharing! Fave!

Another nice pair up! The music represents the big boat floating on the calm sea while pushing forward on our way to work :D I do picture the early 1900's era riding the ferry to the factory for the day. What's the return trip sound like?

Yo.

I like boats. Big, red or small - I don't mind.

This has a pretty cool vibe to it but feels like it should be extended. As if it's only a preview. Gotta say the vibe is quite futuristic so doesn't make me think of that boat chugging along.

This sounds like it's going to turn into a fat, pumping dance track once some heavier beats arrive.

Or it can just stay sitting there chilling in its bombastic sort of way for a while.

Congrats.

DanGoldstein replied 23rd Jan 2016 - 9 years ago
Honestly, I was gonna stay in chill mode but expand as you were feeling should. Now I am hearing something a little more aggressive. It will be new territory if I go in that direction but hey - that's the way you grow.

On the art - yea, not my most obvious music/art sync by a long shot. But it's a happy ride!

Thanks for great visit and comment Static.

Very unique sound. Music you cant fit in a genre but is always fun to listen to. GMS is a pretty good synth. I used a few times as well. Nice track!
DanGoldstein
DanGoldstein replied 23rd Jan 2016 - 9 years ago
yea - genre generally alludes me. I'm more interested in the music evolving somehow out of response to a piece of visual art. that's my angle! LOL! But it was really sticking practically to a couple of obviously related patches in the GMS that gave me a leg up on this one. Glad you could stop by, mudhoen. Thanks for great comment.
