good one rei, not been here in a while and u hit us with a good track to move him. impressive. love the bass in the track man.
makes me want to turn it up more.
hey bro, yeah I'm feeling that "new york at night, neon lights and subway trains" vibe too that Kikajon mentions b4 me...this is one of those collabs where everything fits so well together.... sweet guitar!!, Eshars's intense vibes, and nice crispy drums..I always have to listen to a track a few times to get the full impact but I'm feeling this already...to quote Paris Hilton, this is hot!!
Hey bro....Here I am sitting here reviewing this tune when I thought I would never be able to review another Rei tune again. What a way to return with an impactful entrance. Grabbed my total attention from the first note. Ominous sound combined with Eshars voice...and of course the chops...those great percussive rhythm guitar chops I missed so much ! It's the good old days all over again...woohoo You made my day Rei ! - Bilbozo
wow...this is great...punchy nice chill...and eshars pella fits well to this great track...nice using of sounds...great mixed and mastered...good stuff...i really like the guitar :)
cheers...JW...
I thought a good way to finish would be to have the vocal of "I wish i could sit here " then cut the track and drop the final word "forever" with nothing beneath it
what an honour to get a review from the boss ... lol
it feels good to be here again!!
funny that you mention the ending, I tried to finish the song in a similar way you suggest, and for quite some time I didn't know what version to choose ...
and now I'm off to listen to Sade (which is always a pleasure ...)
thanks a lot for taking the time Shan!! well appreciated ...
Awesome freakin' track, dude. The dark feel of the strings really accentuates Elaine's pella superbly, and the tremolo guitar part is fantastic. I've been working on a tune (tentatively titled "Walkin' In The Dark") which features synthesized tremolo guitar.
In any case, bro, this track is just one more in a long line of excellence. Kudos to you and your massive talent, my friend.
thx Mike!!
I really love the sound of a tremolo, it's incredible ... fitted perfectly to pianosounds string loop ... and Elaine's poem is just brilliant, can't say that often enough!!
thx for your review, well appreciated!!
This is pretty slick! Like the overall feel to this, dark, mysterious and the vocals fit perfectly. They greatly add to the tension that seems to underly this composition. The production is outstanding as seems to be the case in all your music. Fav!!
I try to get out the maximum of my limited technical resources ... everything's done with freeware ...
but over the years I learned a lot about production technique, and I have a solid musical education, all together it's enough to know what I have to do to reach my goal ... ;-)
thx for listening!!!
Hey man..super cool!..this is quite noir for a Rei tune....the more I listen to this the better it becomes...very cool indeed!..you and Elaine have captured that building hanging tension that only exists in good music...super!..this type of track would suit film work brilliantly...exceptional!..cheers Dave :)
imo it stands between with "follow the sunset" and "voices" ... a little darker than the first, a little more groovy than the second ...
when I worked in Elaine's poem I asked myself permanently why I haven't had this idea earlier ... I promise, it's not the last time!!!
peace, rei
Whats up bud? I know we got off to a bad start last year or so but Ive grown to enjoy your guitar playing skills. Mad talented you are! Cool track to say the least. Cool stuff adding Eshar in there. Its always nice to hear a couple old and moldies working together! Kudos to you on a nice track man!
hi Coney!!!
well, let's simply forget about the past, let us look into the future ... ;-) ... that's why I'm here again ...
thx a lot for taking the time to review! you're very welcome in my list of listeners!!
wow...
that's a pretty good barometer to how great the track is..
Kinda makes me thing of Valhalla riding to rape and pillage.. but instead he holds a guitar and makes friends with the locals.
I love your style man
I actually learnt the whole dual panning thing from you and RATM.
One left
One Right
one for effect.
Epic win.
I am soo glad to see you around!
If you ever get the urge, you should send me an e-mail sometime and we can talk about gear or quantum physics and good beer and chicks.
oh .. thank you!!
the panning is one simple thing, if somebody tells you ... lol ... there are many things about production that are pretty simple and easy, you only need to learn when to do what. I once recorded some tracks with a very skilled producer (Peter Wolf, he produced Starship in the 80's) and I was so surprised that he only did simple things, I expected much more technical things than he did ... he told me to prefer always the more simple solution for any problem, in 90% of all cases it's the better one ...
thx a lot for your review man!!!
heheh hey rei!
I miss your sounds!
Awesome mix.
Awesome....
Tremelo guitar like water runnin' off the windowpane.
You nailed it.
I am really happy to see you back!
Perhaps my only criticism would be instead of the synth actual strings, but I know how it goes.. programing that stuff is such a drag.
Arrangement is effortless
almost trip-hop.
Totally frames everything.
Drums are amazing.
I envy you!!! lol
keep it up!
thank you Abe!!!
which synth do you mean? cause there are only 3 little synth lines in it, and they are more on the rhythmical side ...
anyway ... and I agree with you on the tremolo git, I simply adore the sound of a tremolo!!
ah, now that I listen again I think you know what synth you mean ... that's part of the loop from pianosounds ... check that out, it's called "jaw breaker string" ....
thx a lot for your review, as always much appreciated!!!
peace, rei
Lucky me! I got to hear both versions on the same day! The first version 3 times, because I had to clear my cache to load up the new version!
Everything I said before still stands. The only thing I'd change is this: your guitar sounds better and better with each play. A good sign when things grow on you as it's a measure of lasting power.
I hated Roxy Music's album "Siren" the first couple times I heard it. Then I began to like it - now 35 years after its release, I really think it's still ahead of its time! Now it's probably in my top 20 list.
I can hear this one standing the test of time in exactly the same way.
Wow - Eshar's voice here is an amazing addition! Her voice is brilliant (my youngest daughter thinks she should record books for tape), and in the context here becomes another voice and texture that somehow makes the whole seem even more complete. I wouldn't have guessed this, but it does seem "done" now, doesn't it?
I'd hit favorite again if I could! Lovely addition Rei!
I agree with you on Eshar's voice ... she has a great timbre in her voice and something like a natural calmness ... and your daughter is right!!
many thx again ...
peace, rei
gut gemacht. i like it very much..like the guitar and the whole variation of the track. you produced this one very nicely. i like it how the drums and the whole effects works perfectly together !
Good choice in selecting Eshar's voice for the next version! In my mind I can easily invoke her voice over this, and it becomes so brilliant that we'll all need sunglasses to keep from being blinded!
You're a master at adding texture and atmosphere to your music. It's like looking at a Dali painting - the closer you get, the more becomes noticeable. This is a piece I will be as intrigued by in 10 years as I am at this moment. It stands outside of a musical moment and stands entirely on it's own.
But what impresses me most about your work in general, and here in particular is how you "Speak" with the guitar. The expressions you achieve, both emotionally and conceptually are fantastic. Like a painting, each note carries way more information and meaning than words strung together can convey.
This is music in the best of artistic traditions. Faved and plugging it in the "ambient logbook" thread as a Must Hear example from the Chill Out sub-genre.
wow ... I don't know what to say ...
this is the best review I received up to now!!
there's only one principle I follow in my playing: keep it simple ...
sounds easy, but it isn't ... ;-)
many many many thx!!!
so beautifully eerie. great use of the strings sample. i agree that this has a hip hop vibe, but i can totally hear a breathy, euqally eerie female vox on this. who knows..i might ahve to do something with it lol.
as always your guitar accompanyment is supurb. and i adore the drum work. another skillfully composed piece.
kudos!
thanks O.D.!!
I see this track somewhere between triphop and rnb, but triphop is not in the genre list, and it's not enough rnb to put it in there ... lol
and yes, a female voice with a dark touch would be awesome!!! if you really want to play around with it, I can send it to you!! just hit me up ... ;-)
Soundtrack of new york at night, neon lights and subway train. I really liked it. In my opnion there's no need for vocals, it's great as it is. Thanks for the music. Cheers/pmk
I thank you for listening and your review!!!
and yes, I can imagine a video scene of a journey through the city nightlife for this track ... good idea ... thx!!
peace, rei
I just gotta say, this track popped up again and your writing has a maturity that you just don't find a lot on here or anywhere on the internet for that matter. I'm going to be uploading some dubby/metal tracks featuring my bass soon, I'd love to do some bass work with you if that's something that interests you.
thank you for your kind words!!!
my main focus is on songwriting, so I'm really happy that you honour that so much ...
and let me know when you got something ready, I'm really curious!!

you fcking rock Rei. Hands down you will always be one of my favorite artists on looperman. we share a common quality as guitar players "creativity" Man, you have so much creativity flowing in this I envy thee. I could sit here and write a huge paragraph on how bad ass this track is. but instead all im going to say is this ones fav. DOnt ever stop doing what you do. im a fan
thx buddy!!!
it's always good to hear if other good guitar players like what I have to offer ... qualified opinions are the best motivation to go on!!!
great to see you're still around ... ;-)
