Hey there - I like the energy and the composition - the very live sound is kinda cool but I do wonder what a more 'studio' sound might do - sound wise there is a lot of space in there that might be utilised. For some reason the guitar had me thinking of talking heads - circa - more songs about building and food. Overall I think it is a great track - for sure keep going with it : )
Hey man! Yeah you're right, there's clearly a lot of muddledness. I'm not happy at all with the quality of the drum recording (will do that again if I have a better kick mic) and the vocals need some cleaning up - some filtering, but also there's too many layers there now.
I'm curious and interested what you mean with "lot of space that might be utilised", that sounds really interesting - feel free to drop me a DM if you care to elucidate because clearly you know what you're talking about and I don't :)
BTW I created this song this week as an entry for a production/engineering course that should happen soon (fingers crossed). I think the teacher will have his hands full with me :D
The bones are there. I can feel the energy. I think the BPM needs to drop by 10-15. It feels a little rushed. But the overall melody, guitar strumming and bass are great. Steely Dan vibe.
Dude, that's a really good shout, I knew immediately what you meant. I played around a bit and didn't go as far as you said, but dropping from 120 to 116 made a noticeable difference. 110 was too much for me, but I'll play around a bit more (and maybe rerecord some of the bits).
Thanks a lot!! and a comparison to Steely Dan... praise doesn't get much higher than that for me :) I'm positively beaming here!
Thanks!! First of all, yes, I played all instruments live: drums in the studio, guitar and bass direct input, keys through a midi keyboard, vocals in the studio again. No samples except my own :)
The EQ is a good one. I'll check that; there's no brick wall, but both bass and kick drum do have some EQ to filter out noise.
It's cool you still remember my first steps on the path of music :) I think I made many steps since then, not in the least through the help of Loopermen and women who gave me loads of good tips! Thanks again :)
Hey BaoBou nice track, it's got bounce bro, vocal needs to be louder the guitars and bass are great as are the solid drums great rolls bro, I'm glad you're excited about this, don't care about anyone more than being you and doing it YOUR way great bones to master bro bring it back when you have your best cut
Thanks a lot buddy! You're right, the vocals need to pop more in the mix, but I want them rerecorded and fixed first.
And thanks a lot for the encouragement!
Buen tema disco, tiene ese toque especial del final de los setenta y principio de los ochenta, buenas guitarras y esa voz es especial, me encanta como rapea. Buen pista Disco-funky. Paz y salud.
From the first note I was hooked! Very cool, the funky music with the cool, modern vocals. There is a crossover feel to the track, this should appeal to a wide variety of music lovers. The woman's vocals were a nice touch too.
yea it sounds difernt because its not them delivering it yet the writing is same style kinda like u2 song vertigo every janes adiction fan i point this out to says wow that sounds like they wrote this song the way a song is stuctured
Yeah, agree there, Vertigo is a fairly straight copy of Just Because. Still a pretty good song btw, people like to hate on U2 but to me they're still an awesome band.
The vocals fit so nicely over the track. Did you build the track around the vocals or was it just a great match as soon as you laid the acapella over the instrumental? Disco is always super chill, and non-intrusive I think I could listen to a lot of it.
Thank you!
Ha, the story is funny: I have something like a hundred unfinished projects (that's not even exaggerating), and for most of those I have short clips of say 1:00-1:30, bits that are not terrible but miss something: some spark, some surprise, some twist, a vocal, etc.
I regularly download some to my phone to use as alarm or phone. This one was my kitchen timer :D
So when I was going through the acapellas (which I rarely do) for inspiration and heard Melvatron, I knew right away it was a straight fit. Well, straight... I rearranged and expanded the track, cut up Melvin (sorry), added a break, some instruments, the backing vocals of Charlotte, some fresh drums and hey presto, it was done ;)
Easy peasy lemon squeezy as we say in London!
not my thing but neet your getting into being creative it kinda reminds me of Franz Ferdinand the band if they came out with new track hey keep rpcking m,an
More a funk-disco song, with a British rap ethos. you need to do some FX on those vocals which are good and dated to 80`s early rap. I love your guitar work, (as always). here is an idea of what I would expect for FX on the vox https://youtu.be/Jf78lmt-808?t=196. play with this one mate, it has great potential.
The vocals are by Melvatron: https://www.looperman.com/acapellas/detail/19311/disco-tribute-123bpm-house-acapella and they have a lot of reverb. That's his choice, and I decided to work with that :)
The Deee-lite sound is certainly an interesting idea, I will give that a go!
(The backgrond vocals by Charlotte are "cleaner", as you probably noticed. I generally try not to use too many effects)
Yeah, it's maybe more funk than disco, but that's my thing :) Thanks as always for your critical thinking and positive advice, it's much appreciated!
This music....yes it brings me years back....many years lol.
Its funky and how you put everything together is ..uhhh ik bedoel alles past gewoon zoals het moet zijn om een geweldige track te worden.
And the acapella is also realy cool.
Thanks a lot Rita!! It's definitely not perfect yet but I learn a little every day and an acapella like this makes it easier to get to the next level :)
lol...I was fast wasn't I sorry about that...Anyways I'm so excited to see what you'll eventually come up with when you are finished...can't wait. Aww have fun with it :D
Note that I need to rerecord the guitars which are slightly out of tune, as well as the drums which was just a quick first take, etc etc bla bla, but this is close to what I had in mind for the song - I think it's still you, but with also a bit of me.
Haha you were so fast closing it again I couldn't even download it twice for safekeeping ;)
I'm actually in the studio now, so already listening to it on headphones and mapping out drums, and thinking about guitars, and maybe some horns at the end? I can't go crazy, need to leave your voice be the main star.
Also I noticed it's somewhere between B and Bflat, but this is the kind of thing Ableton can fix for me. This is going to be so much fun :) yayyyyyyy!
Haha, don't do your finances after midnight ;)
Can I say here how much I love your new track? I would really really like to play a bit with it, add some soft drums and a guitar towards the end, something like that. I would love to make that a nex project at some point.
Anyway, beautifully sang, great piano play. You're a true artist, easy to tell :)
ooooh, funkyliciousness!! hey BB, this sounds awesome! so far it got moving! when I should be doing paperwork & it's pretty late so that's a good sign. You are super talented indeed. I loved everything I have heard here, can't wait to hear the finished result. Excellent track/production, Super! job on the vocals also. Very much enjoyed! Kudos!
Thank you thank you! The real credit goes to Melvatron of course, his rap lifts the song, and the vocals of Charlotte... but maybe it would be even better with your voice ;) (no slight to Charlotte).
I might leave a backing track for you (and Melvatron) to play with if you guys want. See what you end up with.
Woowee! what a beat!...WOW! this is such a delicious groove!..BB, If you didn't know before, just know I'm a huge fan of your work, it's TOPS! seriously sweet jammy! stuff here. I like the vocals used, that female voice sounds similar to one of my close friends here lol doubt it's her, she doesn't sing. The arrangement here is bad azz :)... EXCELLENTE!!!...Nice!
Well, the feeling is entirely mutual. I think I've already sent you several messages saying so and inviting a collab ;)
The voice is Stephanie Kay, who has a number of good acapellas on this site! It's probably not fair to her to use this one because her singing voice is also good, but this is the vocal that got my attention (and 97 other people I think :p)

I love the composition.
I haven't heard any of your music since the old days
(2019) when I first got on LM.
It feels like you brick walled the EQ at 100Hz.
The Bass and Drums were jamming but I couldn't really
hear or feel them(that could just be me IJS)
I'm really into the Keys and Vocals.
The track sounds "Live".
Great track. Faved..
