An excellent track. Like yourself, I far prefer the old school metal. I like the production. The transitions are seamless. Finally, the vocals and lyrics are very appropriate to the backing track.
Yeah, I'm in my 50's, so I was listening to heavy metal (Vanilla Fudge, Blue Cheer, etc.) before it was even called heavy metal. Though I do enjoy quality tunes from every genre of music, metal, especially old skool, will always be my first love.
I don't have a vocal mic. I have a cheap dictation headset. It sux, but there's not much I can do about it at the moment. I also record on an ancient VAIO laptop which doesn't have a full duplex soundcard, so I can't record vocals while listening to the music. Some people just aren't fortunate enough to have all the fancy equipment that others have.
Thank you, Brian. It always gives me a bit of a lift when a fellow metalhead has something positive to say about one of my non-metal tracks. Keep rockin', my brother!
I like all forms of guitar style music and this country track you have come up with gets the feet tapping and had me jamming along. A real Gutsy feel to this track with the vocal effect/style, I can "see" this in a western movie; could have put it in Country-Cinematic but no such genre. One thing for sure it's definately your style and gets my vote. Keep 'em coming..great stuff.
Thank you very much, Daniel. I appreciate the listen and review. This song was actually sort of a dare. A friend told me that for any musician from Texas, it was mandatory to write at least one country song, so I did. I actually kinda got into it though, so I'm workin' on a few more acoustic, country-flavored tunes for the heck of it.
Yeah, my composition theory is to start with something good and try to make it progressively better as the song goes on. Doesn't always work, but that's what I attempt to do. Since this song started out with a great riff, it wasn't hard to flesh it out a bit by emphasizing certain elements. Glad you liked it...
As always, thanks for the listen and review ~ I do appreciate it, bro.
Thank you very much, jfw. This is actually an old song which I just updated. I took out about a minute and a half of repetitive crap in the middle, including some of my crappy vocals, and re-equalized it. Hopefully it's less boring now and has a bit better sound.
If i could play metal I would ask to jump in here with you but I don't have that edge, and I like it but you know it's gotta be real and i've been in Eddie Van Halen's pocket too long:)Great song Spyder.
Well, you don't have to jump in on this one, but if you're really interested I DO have several unfinished songs more in the rock/pop/hiphop vein which could use some awesome guitar licks. Just a thought....
Hey Spyder, you don't play guitar?Someone who rocks like yourself should,This is really cool.I've only been here a month and am amazed at all the great guitar loops here.I play but I swear I'm gonna use one!
Thank you for the listen and review, bro. This was actually gonna be a rap song, but I don't rap, so....
I just re-equalized the song, cut out a minute or so in the middle, and removed some of my crappy vocals, so I hope it's a bit easier to listen to now. Still wish I could find a good rapper to spit some rhymes on the beat (so I could downplay the guitars and synths).
well it started off really really good. then it got really repetitive and i think the take off came in a little too late. then my next issue is that there's nothing to seperate a chorus from a verse. even if the chorus was instrumental that would be good too. changing the melody for the verses or chorus would be good too. also im all down for the whispering vocals, but there's no emotion, nothing to make them stand out. you make such great music but once it gets repetitive like this one it loses its power. i know that you can do sooo much better. all you need is variation. change it up a bit. because the music you make really could take off and go some where but it it gets really bland. what i do to learn how to make my music better is by listening to wide variety's of music and really just analyzing them and what makes them sound great. i dont know if this helped any you probably already knew this but i would really like to see it put into effect.
Killer track! yeah rei's loops are what got me started arranging loops he is the Master Blaster!! dling this to my looperplaylist..just killer dude! keep it up!
peace!
Thanks for the listen and review, bro. Yeah, rei is da sheet, mon! Dude can definitely play. I personally don't mess with loops much (other people's, anyway), but when I heard rei's, I knew I had to put something together with his stuff.
I like, no.. love, this arrangement and the drums tracks are superb. ive only been part of this site for a week and i gotta say rei4real is the man. Im glad to find someone who can put all the pieces together and layer some drum tracks to some good old fashioned ass kickin rock. I would like to take this track and lay down some vocals if thats ok..who knows it might turn out...only comments would be to add some fx layers for a bit of added texture. Great Jam!
I promised rei(4real!) a while back that I would make a song of his loops alone (well, almost worked out that way), so this is the result. Yeah, the man can ROCK!
Thanx for the listen and review, bro ~ I really do appreciate it.
BTW, welcome to the site!
And feel free to add vox if you want ~ just shoot me a message when you upload the song, so I'll know to check it out.
Thanx, Michael. I'm thinkin' of maybe re-recording the vox in a lower key and cleaning up the chorus vox a bit. Glad you like 'em like they are though.
I agree with Mr. E, the mix could be a little more even, the keyboard work is really good, and the drums are fairly real sounding, which is not easy to do when synthesizing metal. I think you should seek out a guitarist to actually play on this track, and maybe add a couple of leads, and you have a solid intro track to an album, so long as you spend a painful amount of hours automating EVERYTHING and making a great mix. A really solid start, in my opinion, and a good way to compose a metal piece all by yourself.
Yeah, I know the mix ain't all that good. "Something..." was one of the first songs I wrote, and I just didn't really have the experience nor the equipment to master the track well. I've since gotten some very nice vocal processors, sonic enhancers, and high-end multi-band EQ's (and gained a bit of experience as well), so my production quality is gaining (I hope). I'll probably remix this track sometime in the near future, but I'm presently concentrating on finishing a dozen or so new tracks.
I wish I knew a decent guitarist to add some licks to some of my stuff, but I don't. I do have a couple of new guitar emulators though, so I'm hoping that with a little practice I get the guitar sound I'm really after.
When I re-master, I'll probably replace the FPC drums with Real Acoustic Drums Sf2, which are real acoustic drum samples.
Thanx for listening and reviewing, bro. I really do appreciate it.
Wow...I'm pretty blown away with the metal synth sound. Has an industrial metal sound. Very atmospheric and ominous. Great arrangement and with Eshars voice it worked out perfect. Great job - Bilbozo
I'm no guitarist, so it's taking me a while to learn how to get decent guitar sounds out of these guitar emulators. Practice makes perfect though (I hope).
I really liked the feel to it. When it came on I expected another route but it was still good though. I love when you went into the second beat (i think). That can be a beat of its own.
Thank you for listening and reviewing, Obruno. I syncopated the beat in the bridge to add some interest by breaking up the rhythm ~ glad you enjoyed it.

I try to keep my limited composition skills sharp by experimenting with different genres. Sometimes it works, sometimes it don't. LOL
This was the first real Hiphop song I tried, but I think it came out alright.
