totally pulled in...so rich its swimming in gold this piece..i am just in the right frame of mind now for listening to this...it is chaos.. but you have it controlled here..they say that 'from chaos comes order'...never understood that until now..great!

What a trip the evolution in this was. Chaos-Order:Order-Chaos expressed as another form of wax and wane. Think maybe Shiva was poking this one in particular directions? Got to be careful when invoking archetypes or deities in Art as they just might start influencing things. So glad you dig this one my friend!

Hello My friend

Have to say this is the most enjoyable chillout type of track heard tonight doing reviews, well for all day as a matter of fact, I have some samples along the same line you have used here, you may have inpsired me to have a go at doing a track with them, like with my other track Lazy Dazze, thought would do that track after listening to one of your brilliant piece's looks like I will be doing another after listening to this brilliant piece, love the arrangement and the clarity of this piece, mate you have to be one of the most talent people here on the loop, with the tunes you do, they do sound like lots of work has gone in to get the brilliance that you have, like in this track, always a pleasure listening to your works, always something special...MASSIVE Thank you for sharing this joy...Fav'd...Estefano....My friend I have a sweet house piece up, hope you get chance to check it out and enjoy, would be interested in your thoughts...Cheers my friend....

You know, the few times I've encountered tracks here that "were inspired" by me, I've been totally blown away. What an honor that is! I love that about this site - I hear something that inspires me, and make a track, someone hears that and makes one. We're all rolling around together making interesting stuff! Maybe it's time to think about exchanging stems? Thanks kindly my friend.

[Draft 2a reviews]

The strong rhythm gives it a very primative, clan or tribal feel to this. Very organic, new age, world music and even a little mystical feeling to a point as I listen. Loved the wood percussion and tabla, gave a middle eastern touch to it.

Always a pleasure to hear a new tune from you, this one is no exception. I usually close my eyes and drift away to some far off land as I listen. yup.

I'm thinking the rhythm thing I've got down so it's time to explore the melody side of things. It's funny, because even in the percussion I hear melodies, but it's been needing something more. I'm glad this stuff can take you on an inward journey. With the current economy, it seems the cheapest way to travel.

[Draft2 Review]

It's been awesome to follow this piece from it's beginnings all the way to draft two.
Btw, when I replied on gmail, I was A/Bing the draft one to draft two heheh..
So I accidentally replied to the first one! hehe

anyhow, I mean as a piece it's amazing. I am just the type of creative individual that everything must be completely torn apart down to the sub-atomic level and rebuilt lol.

I do really like how you balance this line of Trancish Ethno vibe with the dub aesthetics.
OH, and I guess I really didn't listen close enough but I do hear a bit of that Kinda grain delay action I was talking about, but I did feel the need for a crescendo?
Nonetheless.
You rock!
Shiva the God of destruction and the recycled elements indeed.
Still felt like I wanted more of a crescendo near the end rhythmically (even more so than the outro), but that in no way is a complaint or criticism.

In reply to draft2b
I love it man.. Man there's that brewing. Things broken down to the sub-atomic level and brought together.

LOVE IT.

Man.. I think I do agree with you about the trappings of the all-mighty "Edit" and "Arrangement".
I find it funny.. because I am actually missing a reel to reel occasionally, because it was either hit or miss.
So in you confiding me about the way you process this ... It makes me think about the good old days.

Man you can hear Shiva actually crying.
Thats effing nuts.

Huge thanks to you for all the fantastic critiques and advice on this one! In "rehearsing" it I think I got too close to the trees again to see the forest so you're advice really kicked me down the path I needed to follow. I hear a thimble full of Shiva's tears are a powerful psychedelic so feel free to sample a sip - lol. I'm thinking it's time to seriously (sincerely?) discuss a collab again. Thanks my little brother.

You have lived up to my expectations with this track! Everything you do has such a spiritual feeling to it, just as this does. Very danceable stuff too! I really like that sitar sound, I can't believe it's a VST! Really cool drumming on this one! This sure kept my attention! Thanks for sharing!

n0mad23 replied Unknown
I hadn't really considered my stuff sounding "spiritual" but you're not the first to say this. I've got a musical friend that I started jamming with about 17 years ago who recently became a Sufi and he told me that the form of mysticism actually feels just like my music. I love how this one compels movement! Thanks for the review my friend.

One thing I'm really digging about what I'm doing now feels a lot like academia - I'm doing so many connect the dot sequences in terms of applying understanding to creative interpretations. And in turn I learn something totally new every time I sit down with the DAW! Thanks man!

Can I hear a taste of India in here..? well it works very well with the interesting beat you have lined up. Lovely use of percuaaion as expected.. I love the use of thermodynamics in your description very apt.. anyway back to the tune.. Its quite melodic again which I love and very eay on the ear.. Well worth the listen. Great job n0m

n0mad23 replied Unknown
You know I honestly didn't hear the "sitar" sound in this until Stephen pointed it out! That's the free VSTi Alieno, and I think the 2 manipulated tabla tracks kind of emphasize it. It does seem I'm really drawn to melodies these days, so maybe I'm doing the cycle of Death and Rebirth through it all as well. Glad you dig this one! Thanks much for taking the time to listen and review.

[Response to Draft 1]

Sonic bliss, another track formed around the cosmos, recycled sounds representing the endless cycles of death and rebirth...man the sounds playing here are mutated and falling into the category of hybridisation.....the more i listen to your music the more i understand the concept of your art..great first draft.the full works extended version i wait in anticipation for...nice.

lol - I guess it does seem I'm drawing from meme theory for sonic work, too. Added a couple of minutes to Draft 2, and now I actually think I know what needs to be done for the final version.

I loved the middle eastern intro with the Dhol drums and sitar sound, it might be something else, but It sounded like it to me. I get excited when I see a new song from you and this is the reason why, the track flows together really well, and is just generally relaxing. I agree with The_Acidizer, I listened all the way to the end, and I like the last line of the description that it is a recycled cosmic dance, it seems to fit your track pretty well.

As always, great job Nomad!

Ste :)
n0mad23
n0mad23 replied Unknown
The first tablas you hear are from Deepest India sample pack, and the second to enter are mine (pics of the set in my pics). I think they still need to be arranged better. The sitar sound is actually the free VSTi Alieno that I've manipulated with other VSTs. I was actually shooting for a Far East sound at least in the beginning due to the nod to Shiva as a reflection of recycling principals. Of course, Shiva is also the Lord of the Dance, so I was really happy to see the girls in my house bopping to it while I was putting it together. I think it's off to a good start, and I'm probably the most curious of all to see where it ends up! Thanks for the encouraging review Ste!

interesting sound you got here. really cool. this could go in many different directions, and i like what you did with it. it was an adventure through the whole song. not something most people will listen to on an everyday basis, but it is a song that would people would be like, thats kinda cool sounding. had me listening intently all the way to the end. great work!

n0mad23 replied Unknown
Still in a drafty mode for me, so I totally agree with your comments about the directions it could still go. I had to do a draft recording so I could "examine" it, and thought I'd post it as well. I'm thinking it'll do probably 2 more revisions before it can be put away. Thanks for the encouraging review!

Hey my friend

Very different sounding piece from you, great jungle beat to it, nice choice of synths and effect in this one, very cinematic type of track that you would hear in a film/soundtrack, extremely interesting listen for sure, great use of percussion in this, something I have been trying to use more in my works as well, Love everything about this piece...another fav piece from you my good friend...Peace and much respect...Estefano...

One of the first 4 tracks I made and posted here. I'm really surprised when I listen to these "older" pieces, as I seem to be swimming in the same current. The biggest surprise though is how much more control I have of things now. Stay tuned, my next one coming has percussion that's some of my best to date! Hurrah! Thanks for the review my friend, you are indeed my most consistent source of encouragement! Means a lot.

Funny.. I started playing without reading anything and it instantly reminded me of PlanetJazz but you.

I was also VERY pleased to hear some even newer melodic phrasing and arranging. Then I read dungbeatl heh. Definitely the happier side of things!

hehe, interesting. The examined life. I don't do that enough.
If I were too, I think I would probably be stuck around the black keys (sounds like Db major?) and those congos right at 2:25. :)

What was the nature of getting old? You told me that one time.. We are born and time takes forever, and then we get older and time seems to go at the speed of a blink of an eye.

Lol.. I can't believe it man.. You are a powerful force in this world. This music is you.

n0mad23 replied Unknown
I actually have absolutely no idea what key this is in - lol. It all came out of the bassline, something I was playing around with in experimenting with DSK BassZ and transposing it to more in the range of an acoustic guitar. I deliberately set out to do something melodic and happy, with a slight vibe of melancholy behind it. What I'm most please with though, is that the sonic interpretation is so close to what I'd conceptualized. I think I'll be doing more of the downtempo melodic stuff!

I think after finding the concept, getting the ingredients together was a whole lot easier this time. Mix 1 part joyous bass with 1 part steady beat and 1 part dubby drums. Sprinkle slightly melancholy melody filtered 3x though psychedelic filters. Render slowly with Live. I do think I did tease out the spectrum of emotions here, and I'm glad you can hear that. Thanks!

going through your tracks, im vastly impressed by the tiniest intricacies that you include...the finite details you pay such close attention to, and the most minute levels and effects that pertain to every clip, loop, sample and moment...but i cant help feel that your tracks lack a certain driving force...they all seem to wander...and i find myself skipping through it to find some kind of hook, or drastic change to keep it interesting from start to finish...i think it serves as beautiful back ground music...which is a shame considering the vast attention to detail. i really enjoyed this track in particular tho...i closed my eyes and just kinda zoned out...great work, despite my constructive criticism.

I think what you're hearing and speaking to is exactly why I had never entertained doing this sort of work before. Honestly, I've never heard a solo album before that was as good as one by a band. I wonder if I did collaborations it would address this problem. Better than muzack, but ultimately really lacks something? Thanks for the honest and insightful review. So cool monitoring each other's evolution, isn't it? I keep thinking about your tracks from a year ago, and about mine - we're both still in the same stream as we were, but the improvement is amazing!

A few years ago, my spouse and I were in a band called The Hybrid Association (check my links to get to the old site and music in real player format), and we really were improvisational artists. Often when we began, we'd all kind of flail along on drums, etc. until something clicked, and then it was glorious! I tried to replicate this with the beginning of the song. So the title really is a nod both to this former band, and the concept of how music constantly evolves through hybridity, and the encounters of musicians from different traditions. I'm still really pleased with this one, as it surprised me on several levels. Glad it gets your approval as well!

This is an unusual turn of events, I could swear that this is not carring a heavy weight like most of your masterpieces. This has a lighter melodic feel to my ears. I think you have found your biting point n0mad. I say this from a mere onlookers perspective. To me you have found the gateway between moulding your creativity and the aspects of music allowing me to listen at any moment and enjoy. The percussion in this is brilliant by the way. Some of your best work, if i may say so. Please do keep up this type of creativity.

I had another member tell me in a PM that when he saw this track he thought, "oh no, n0mad's gone soft on us," but then said he was wrong after listening. Accessibility is the key, isn't it? How to do and share what we love in a way that others truly enjoy as well. I think the one I did before this (I don't think you've heard yet) titled, "The Joy in Little Things" really marks a "happier" more melodic approach for me. I look forward to email discussions with you on this, as my current project has as much to do with pointing out what's wrong with the world as it does with offering other solutions. I can promise you'll hear more of this kind of music from me in the days to come! Cheers, and welcome back!

I like this one a lot. It has the swirling ambience and cyclical rhythm of your "Dancing in the dreamtime" - both of which remind me of native American indian tribal dance music (minus the chanting). Thinking about it - the addition of some chanting (conservatively applied) might work on these type of pieces - at least it may be worth experimenting with...

Cheers, Jamie

Hi Jamie - I think I've finally let this one sit and gestate long enough to come back to it. I hadn't considered adding chants, but this has really got me thinking. Might be a great bridge for me in an attempt to "find my voice" again! I keep thinking that vocals are what I really need to infuse the human spirit into what I'm doing, so thanks for putting that idea into my head! Thanks much for the fave here - it's the compliment that inspires me to stretch out and try more!

you got some pretty cool drumbeats going there, the depth of it makes it easy to listen to though it is relatively repetitive. and of course everything around it is good too, but i think youve already been told that. i should try doing something like this, itll probably be more like a nightmare than a dream the way most my tracks turn out though
n0mad23
n0mad23 replied Unknown
I think John Lennon said that Bowie's song "Fame" was the greatest rock song of all time because of its repetition. I think it's a fine line though. Too repetitive and boredom creeps in, and this one is certainly walking that razors edge. I actually did this as a way to get over my annoyance with a series of evangelical rap posts, and in that it succeeded beyond my own expectations. Maybe "intent" is one of the keys to this kind of work. Thanks for the listen and review.
