I love it when true inspiration comes along. When it does, you know it. That's so sweet that you accidentally recorded your daughter playing her trumpet. I'm a trumpet player myself, so I can appreciate what you did with the horn sample. This is great stuff!
She's a natural (her music teacher thinks so, too) and it's really funny how shy and embarrassed she gets behind playing publicly. I'm a proud papa.
I love alividlife's "unconditional love" sound comment below. With all my exotic drums that were sampled, it's like I'm virtually jamming with my daughter. Inspiration reflected in the title. Glad you dig it!
[NOTE - this and previous reviews are for draft 1]
Truly a dub-tastic swell of organic tribal dub. Totally root's to the core. I really love what you did with those stems. This is a great collaboration. Did you add the delay to the vocals there towards the end? That was spot on man. I really loved the addition of the bull roar and the rattles at the intro.
Years ago when using analog instruments in avant-garde stage performances in Seattle, when asked what kind of music we were doing, I'd say, "Retro." "What, like `50's stuff?" "Nah, more like electronic Neolithic."
Seems I seem to be swimming in the same river, but the water's clearer up here.
I actually effected (off and on throughout) the vocals with the freeware SupaTrigga glitch VST which includes some delay. Good ear, my man.
The next I've posted is maybe a bit edgier, but emphasizes what I was going for with this one. I'm going to see what you've posted since last I looked, but can already tell you I'll HAVE to hear "Destination Space" again while I'm there! Thanks for the review, and listen.
This is a very strong track, I like how you have managed to link all these "unusual"(bull roarers) sounds, thumb up!
Drums are amazing, these drums reminds me on Drumming Circles,
they are intense!
Really have nothing more to add, track sounds great!Fav'd
Good to see you n0mad, that you're back
I really enjoyed the direction you took this. The slight shading and stylistic movements had me listening with my eyes closed.. letting the vibe create the imagery. Remarkable track bro...
Really glad you enjoyed this draft, my man! You and Salook really gave me a lot to work with, so putting my own "vision" behind it has been a real pleasure. I'm currently working on the next draft and should have it done within the next day or two. I'll make sure you get a good copy. I'll also send along my additional stems should you two wish to incorporate any into your own. Thanks much and I'm looking forward to hearing some of your work.
Man when you mentioned the bullroarers..I had no idea to how it was going to sound and I was curious right away...I dig how you picked out specific instruments and sounds from your head that you reckoned would work..then incorporate...well thought about and the additions do work...after listening again here..it really grabbed me this time and put my neck hairs on end..Intro and track outro is amazing..and you have pulled and teased out some wicked sounds...really full on and inducing...and for me it is almost done already..good to know you are still having phun with phasers...man that Bullroarer is making the track very menacing and I like it!!
Stay tuned - further revisions are happening to this currently, and stems will be coming your way soon. This has been a real delight to do, and I thank you and Avonaco massively for letting me collab on this. Cheers.
Bull roarers? Where did you get those samples? Always liked the Midnight Oil song Bull Roarer. Dang man, it may have been a while that you have created anything but you guys put a pretty interesting track together. The vocal tracks were so effective here and combined with the music I feel like I am in the outback somewhere.
Maybe a litte more bass would be my only suggestion. Some of the percussion has some bass in it but I want to hear more, I guess being a bass player makes that something I want to hear louder. Maybe a cool sub bass track, in the background filling up the low freqs. Other than that Sean this is a great track
Will wait to dl the final product but I'm gonna fav this now knowing it is only gonna get better the more you fiddle with it.
Great job so far, can't wait to hear the final product!
Good call on the bass, Wayne. I actually have been thinking the same, so it's great to have it validated. I'll make it available for download when it's done, too. Thanks!
I've been away for a while, but it seems like I reviewed one of the first tracks you put on this site....man, you were good then, but this is fantastic.
I would also say I picked the right track to come back to. This is nothing short of absolute sensory brilliance. Seriously, one of the best listens I've had in a while.
I see Bill referenced Pink Floyd. I think they would have been honored to have this in their library.
Barry! Oh man, I'm glad to see your back and more importantly still - alive and kicking!
Yeah, you were the very first person to review my first track when I joined. I actually met Simon (ensam) when you deleted your account shortly after. What a trip - I've become a mod since then.
Thanks for the kind review, and especially for alerting me to your return. I've been away for about 3 months, so this is a delightful surprise indeed! Thank you!
LSD in musical form, you devious little nomad you ;-)
Seriously, this track is a trip, and a nice one at that. The ethnic athmosphere you have created would bring smiles to both Timothy Leary and Richard Alpert (aka, Baba Ram Das) as it does to me.
In the words of the trailer park boys, this track is F@$k&^g awesome.

All The Best to You and Yours in the New Year
May it be Your Best Year Ever
Back in the early `90's I was in a band in Seattle called Spirit House. Think world chamber music combined with the avant-garde scene titled, "Acoustic Trance" and you'll get an idea of what kind of music we played. Later I was in a recording project with the men from Spirit House in the band called "Anak Pisang" (Indonesian translated means 'banana child' and is a euphemism for not having a dad). The first 4-track recording session we did resulted in the other 2 guys deciding that I was inherently a Psychedelic musician. Not psychedelic rock, just psychedelic. To drive the point home, the guitarist said, "Pink Floyd - those guys tried. Hard. You just do it."
Guess psychonautic adventures can lead to positive outcomes - but this guy can never be president. Can't find your email, but when I do this one's coming your way 320kps style! Cheers.
I am in total awe of the music you do, totally full of feeling that takes you on a journey everytime, excellent beat and vocal is stunning for this type of track, keeping the track really moving along nicely with the beat, liking the percussion, hey what is there not to like, another masterpiece my friend, again thank you for sharing great talent, another fav coming...Peace n Upmost Respect Sean...Estefano...
@n0mad23, I've not been on Looperman for a while so I decided to hear what the master has been upto. I am not disappointed with this track ;) infact I regard it as one of your best. Jungulation still remains the n0mad23 track par excellence but this comes close, ....very close. C69
I took 3 months off myself, so I'm really late in replying to your review! This track was a lot of fun to make, probably more so than most in the current project. I love how a series of conversations at a party inspired the concept, and how seamlessly it evolved from there. I'm gearing up to do some more sampling of my exotic instruments, and hopefully more along these lines will emerge! Thanks for the kind words.
a great piece. one gets the idea of a family have a great day out at the beach. Even the voices of those around the area are like music because it is such a perfect day and everything in life is in tune and perfect rhythm.
Sorry for the delay John, I just looked at the reviews here and see you left one long, long ago (what happens when I take 3 months away).
Love your "voices...like music" comment. I was just writing a review about using "natural sounds" and wondered if those sounds aren't loaded with information and symbolism. In other words, their sounds touch emotional locations we already carry around.
Shoot me your email and I'll send you a copy in 128 or 320, your choice!
Thanks for the listen and advice. I've been tempted to do a couple other version of this one, including one shorter. Nice to see someone validate it for me. Cheers.
On the clip in ableton did you change the complex waveform algorithm to "Complex" instead of "Beat"
Or "Complex Pro"?
I was just saying because I heard some grains being processed?
I just noticed that...
AND
FURTHER MORE.
this has continually evolved?!?!
Wow...
No idea - pretty much default settings at this stage with characteristic tweaking of everything - lol. It's a funny track and to my ears now seems very, very dated. Weird how quickly that can happen.
Thanks. The album is all pretty conceptually based, so it's taking longer than I thought it would. Hopefully by the beginning of 2011 I'll have enough tracks to be done with this one.
sweet and mellow, awesome lead, I immediately got things to discuss, read my mail man, its about texture, clarity and interconnections in ambiance. really like the atmos here.
Sorry it's taken so long for me to reply - time seems to be speeding up and I'm off writing words instead of making music again! Will be emailing you very soon! Thanks for listening and giving a review.
Uber nice vocal effects stuff near the end. As for the rest, it makes me think of what it'd be like to be messed up at a circus or county fair (less scary and more trippy). Skewed perspective of clowns, carnies, exotic animals, passing crowds of people, and the lights of the rides. Or even better, think of that one scene from the movie Dumbo when he gets drunk (and they sing Heffalumps & Woozles, I think). Course, that could just be me (oddball that I am). Def cool concept though (it'd fit in nicely with some film stuff). Lates!
Is that a drone yer playing, or are you just excited to be here?
Interesting thing that, have you ever messed with a Didgeridoo? They're pretty fun, but getting the mouth to putter right is pure silliness (my mama taught me that it wasn't kosher to make farty noises like that). Oddly enough, I was was thinkin about this earlier because a song came on the radio with one when I was comin back from school.
Very tight drum work going on here and the percs kinda remind me of some of Robert Miles stuff. The only things I'm thinkin that would make this sound cooler is if ya had some Sitar action (and possibly even some kind of flute). Would def add to that world flavor of this. Anyways, cool tune mate. Lates!
I actually picked up the didgeridoo in `92 and 6 weeks later I was on stage performing in Seattle for the upcoming Subpop artists. This one feels like ancient history now, but you're right - if I was to go back to it I'd certainly weave in more of the South Asian sounds. Cheers!
awesome creative intro love the massive use of soundeffects very solid!
miss maybe a drop of the drumset because of the etrem complexity its hard to hear any kick or organized drums
really massive tune respect keep it up!
Black Mamba man - (I actually met 2 of the real ones when I was a kid in Cameroon, W. Africa). I've wondered about the kick here as well, but really wanted to emphasize a kind of Chaos behind it all. If I do go back to this one, I'll certainly give your advice a try. Thanks for the review and suggestion!
you're the kind of musician I call "mind-musicians" ...
when I listen to your music it feels like a journey through your mind, and I can't imagine a more personal way to meet someone ...
that's why I love your music that much!!!
Birds of a feather, huh Rei? This one is a kind of "solution" track as I'm looking for healthy ways of rebelling against business as usual. I wanted it to be both happy, and a little bitter sweet because that's what life really is. Highs and lows and everything in between. Thanks for the encouragement and approval here. I'll be by shortly to check out your latest as well! Cheers.
Hello - thanks for alerting me to your presence. I'll be by soon to check out your music as well. I did have a look at your profile and must say you've got good taste in music. Makes me think I'm going to dig your work, for sure. Thanks for the listen and review.
the kids splashing remind me of when i was a kid looking at the water. and the synth and wierd fx'ey strings add a almost middle eastern surreal vibe to the whole track. i like the drum patterns as well. almost dubby at some points while still maintaining that whole nomad, can't copy my style sort of vibe, hell yeah bro. new fav!
Yeah the water and other field recordings teased out a lot of the symbolism I was shooting for here. Dive on in, the water's fine! I think I'm still most enamored with the bass line here - I'm really digging doing more of the Midi work myself and not trying to find loops that kind of work. Thanks for the review and encouragement!
Thanks Ioke! It used to have over a dozen more faves, but that's what happens when people delete their accounts. C'est la vie.
This is my only real attempt at a kind of Reggae flavored Dub track, but I think I'll try my hand at it again. A lot of fun to do. Thanks for the review, and for the fave!
I'm so tempted to just say hot track! lol....Just kidding, but it is interesting to note that your tracks engender more than a passing reply, and there's a reason for this....Ah yes,I believe in Cosmic recycling, not the obvious reincarnation so much as apportioning due care and diligence to the things we interact with(on the physical plain anyway!)....which brings me to the essence of what I perceive music to be about....being a percussionist amongst other things makes you a very tactile person with a clear understanding of the physical nature of music..it occurs to me that tracks like this effect people on some inner level, possibly within the subconscious I'm not sure....what I do know is that there is a Cosmic reality in music, there's a process at work and funnily enough in this dimension we call home, the fact that ever since the invention of radio the transmitted material of humanity is the only real Cosmic reality that exists physically that we know of..radiating away through eternity in an every expanding weakening sphere of what?..Hell I was only going to review this track not try and square up the mysteries of the Cosmic All!lol..see it's those tribal drums... they make you go crazy! hehe..it is a hot track by the way...cheers Dave ;)
I'm with you Dave - I'd like to believe in reincarnation for the simple fact of the first law of thermodynamics, but suspect things are simultaneously more complicated and simple than that. I like the metaphor of Shiva in the Cosmic recycling sense and it seemed rather incandescent to use or reflect that Cosmic reality in music to explore and interpret this theme. The most attractive axiom of Buddhism to me is that the only permanence is change. But you know this stuff - it's why we have to do art, right? Ashes to ashes, and pass the hubbly bubbly please. I'm really not surprised that it's the cool cats that get it. Cheers my friend.
