Thank you for listening! What would not be weird about 101 voices speaking together along with two analog synths played live via a ribbon controller? They are in fact the same two synths which play throughout most of the song. I appreciate your comment.
Decided to give it a listen under the headphones, glad I did. Interesting to listen to how wide/narrow your individuals tracks are and how they are set in the mix. There is a lot going on, several sounds all at once but yet I can hear it all without the instruments crowding one another. Thought I heard a live instrument played by hand in there, I read the description after I listened, it sounds great and gives it a human touch.
I can certainly find some humor in the title for the subject matter and actually it's a cool title of a track. All the interesting sounds, textural differences, effects made my ears smile! Well done Spiv!
Yes, I think that this song is probably best in headphones. I tried pretty hard to sculpt an interesting, and slightly disorienting stereo field with this mix.
Happy that you enjoyed hearing the bass and guitar in there. I've been trying to force myself to practice and pick up my axes more. Repairing the six string helps... it's been repeatedly customized since I got it around '93 in a slightly smashed and enamel painted state.
I thank you for always being there to inspire with your comments. Have a fine day!
Hey what's up Spivkurl. Wow, I never heard of a competition that didn't allow effects. That's crazy. I'm guessing that they are trying to push people's creativity.
This is really cool. I've done all sorts of music but never an Industrial track. I give you credit, my friend gave me FL a long time ago but I could never get into it. The program is amazing though. The demo songs that come with it are mind blowing.
The mix and EQing sound good. I like how the tension builds describing perfectly what you're trying to express. Nice work on the vocals as well. Thanks again for the comment you left on my page.
Yeah that competition was a pretty big challenge, for several reasons. Having to use only the effects within the sytrus plugin was definitely one barrier. There are regularly hosted competitions going on at the image line forum lately... the winner of the previous comp designs the new one, and they are all focused on some native FL aspect. It's pretty interesting to watch.
Industrial is something which I can't avoid, for at least the last 25 years. Much of my favorite listening is industrial or related. Hoping to be able to visit a concert later in the year, of KMFDM and Ohgr, neither of whom I have seen live.
Fl has changed quite a lot in the past two years, and it has turned a lot of people of from it. I welcome most of the changes, but it still needs more work on audio handling, plugin delay compensation, MIDI capabilities, etc...
I'm happy that you enjoyed the song and the mix. I appreciate you taking a listen.
Great job Spivkurl! Original as always. I personally like sytrus a lot. I have just discovered the potential of the plugin. For me, with the right settings, it has a raw feel. Especially when you play around with the LFO possibilities and with the ring modulation. I would even go as far as to say that it can have some kind of modular synthesis feel. Keep on jamming! :)
(PS: In my next song I am using exactly this way, so you can hear what I mean, maybe)
Thank you Tom for taking a listen to this one! I too have just discovered the potential of the plugin, even though I've been using it for around a decade. I still kind of hate the sound of it, and as far as a synth of this sort, I far prefer the interface, capabilities and sound of FM8. When I'm going for a raw feel, I have so many hardware options that a synth like sytrus doesn't even cross my mind. It is modular in a small way, with the array of envelopes, modulation, and LFO stuff... which is definitely the best part. Being able to analyse any waveform for the operators is cool too. I will check out your song if it's up already. Thanks again!
Totally in the spirit of Front242! remeber the warbeat genre from the eighties, at the beginning of the electronic music in germany!
i'm really impressed by the quality and the capacity in creating such harmonies!
the using voice becomes an instrument with this kind of flow. It contributes in the rythm with perfection! as i said, i'm really impressed!
I have only rarely listen to front242, yet I take it as a big compliment! It is simply not my favorite era of industrial sort of music. I do know of warbeat genre, sort of identify it with hardcore. I always listened to hardcore which was at higher tempos than this, like around 150-200 BPM, yet I still think this is borderline hardcore... ha ha.
I hope that you can take a moment to hear the new mix, as I think it is much improved. The high frequencies on most tracks were a bit harsh after mastering, so I went and improved the mix and then mastered again.
I'm happy that you enjoyed the vocal work, as it took a lot of real life experience to lay it down like this. Thank you for listening and leaving your words!
That is a seriously entertaining comment to read! It's funny, since a large part of the influence was Russian style malt beverage and amanita muscaria mushrooms directly from Russia. You must have a good ear! I hope you take a moment to check out the updated mix, since I think it's quite a bit better. Thanks for listening and leaving your words. It is appreciated!
That it does my friend! Can't help but feel unfulfilled when I do too much software synthesis lately. This one turned out nice, and should be on an album quite soon! Thanks for listening!
Really cool, interesting track again! I absolutely love the arpeggio around 23 seconds, and the sound design is great all around. Really unique track, cool vocals, not much to critique :)
I've found, yet again, that Sytrus just does not satisfy me in an audio fashion. I can't hear even this without thinking "plastic." It's how I've always described the synth, and I was starting to feel different, as in patriotic, but it's not lasting, also like patriotism. I will improve the song pretty soon. Thank you for listening, and I apologise for posting something I couldn't be sure of.
Your creativity is always what grabs my attention Spiv...we could all use a touch of that imagination of yours...hardly my go to genre but just have to admire what you accomplish...besides its a fun song...a big well done to you...Ed
Hey Ed, thank you for taking a listen... I know that it is always out of your comfort area! Your mention of creativity pleases me to no end, since I feel like this is one of the few redeeming qualities of humans throughout history. It feels good to be even a small part of that! The instrumental of this was a very large challenge, since I have despise the synth plugin Sytrus for over a decade. I'm fairly proud, since all of the sounds were created from scratch on this one synth. Admittedly, FL Studio is most at home with it's own plugins being used, but it was still a stretch of my imagination. The words on the other hand came easily compared to most of my music, and it's one of those rare times when I was not reading what I was singing. One of those things which I could not say to most people without attracting negative attention! Thank you Ed for being my constant musical companion, Lo, These long years!
Long awaited new track my friend....creativity shines again to the fullest...very hypnotic stuff indeed and yet again great vocal wizardry! Also like the ending. Excellent job...as usual! Faved!
Orlando, thank you for always coming through with great comments! You are a highly valued comrade, and I appreciate it! I feel like this one will need some more work before I release my album, but who knows? Doing a bit of guitar and bass repair the last couple of days, since I needed a break from the massive circuit bending project... it helps. Looking forward to visiting your profile! Thanks!
You are creatively unique which is so refreshing and as always very listenable. Remember Devo? You sound nothing like them but definitely mine a similar creative vein. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g4-2onb62y8
Hey friend, thanks for stopping by to hear this. I realise I may have fallen short of my goals, aside from the personal goal of expressing my reactions to experiences of the time. I still enjoy the song, but may need to continue work on it.
I would call myself a fan of Devo, especially these days, although I tend to enjoy Mothersbaugh more most of the time. My devo stuff is pretty much all on tape, which is cool since I am in love with magnetic media lately! Listening to the song you linked to, definitely one of their cool pop songs!
What's up, Spivkurl!
Long time. Nice track. Has that retro video game feel. The buzzy bass gives a very hypnotic towards the middle to add. I'd only suggest the the vocals could use a bit more effect to distinct it from the track. More reverb can give it a distant feel, and by EQing the low end out can give it the radio effect to complement the buzzy bass. Adding echoes in the "yea yea" part will make it sound even more hypnotic, imo. But, other than that, nice work. I still see you're doing your thang!
-Vicamoor
Hey buddy! The video game element is mostly due to the plastic toy feel of Sytrus in general... I've pretty much hated the synth since it came out, but this contest made me respect it a bit more. I designed all the sounds from scratch from the "default" sine wave starting point. I wanted the vocals to be very present in this. The suggestions you give are appreciated, but have also all been used. I always cut the lows on my vocals, and everything else for that matter. There is reverb on the vocals throughout, as well as a reverse delay echo in certain sections. I don't intend to stop doing my thing, even when those stupid medications rear their ugly head. I took a few minutes of hanging out at a park bench with some homeless addicts and used it as inspiration to shape the vocal performance and freeform lyrics... seemed to work okay. Thanks much for listening and being the first to comment!
My first impression after reading your comment was how sweet it was, and I realized that this may be the result of having had my hands deep in the soil only a moment earlier. Either way, I am still deeply honored by your words, and humbled as well. I too am proud of this work, but I must give credit to those who were derived from in this work, including but not limited to Terence Mckenna. After having experienced the other bomb through massive filtration, your mention of a bomb is respected. Robert Smith knew what he was saying when he wrote, "I don't know what's going on." Thank you for listening my friend!
Hey buddy, it's always good to hear from you! I know that you are one to appreciate a modern psychedelic experience, at least musically, and so I thank you for sharing the journey! Smoking a nice morning bowl myself at the moment, mostly to offset this poor tasting batch of instant coffee. ha ha. I'm very happy you enjoyed this "short but sweet" endeavor. Thanks much!
Hi Spiv.
Im back after a lot of stress moving but now chilling with the vibe here at lopperman. I really got into this one of yours which has an offbeat theatrical edge to it and you are right everyone is suffering mainly due to crazy politicians. Thats three times ive dialled this in gotta go .nice one. Regards
Hey buddy, good to hear from you! Sorry I completely lost touch there... it's been a strange couple of months to say the least! Either way, I'm glad to hear that you are moved in. Also happy that you enjoyed the song enough to play it a few times! Thanks!
Ahh a new name for you eh? Welcome back to the Loop! Hope that you are well!
It's like a freakin battle lately trying to get solid studio time lately... spring, electronics, community service, parties, losing my mind... it all takes time and energy.
I'm very happy that you enjoyed the song, and I apologize for taking so long to reply. I actually have no memory of getting this comment at all... wonder why? I've been writing more lyrics lately than music, which is often a good thing. I love those songs that I only put to music years after writing the lyrics.
This is insane!
This is music from the inmates!
You got lost at the asylum?
I love this.
Absolutely love it.
Sounds nothing like but it takes me to the craziest stuff of the B 52's Tom Waits Captain Beefheart.
Don't change Spiv.
I know what you mean when you hear the conveyor belt music.
So unique so listenable.
Possibly my all time favourite now.
I'm inspired.
Fantastic bestest thingest I heard in a long time.
It fits nowhere.
That is a very kind and pleasing comment to read! Happy that you felt inspired after listening.
Really, it is mainly referring to being lost by the legal system, yet again. In addition, sometimes it's easy to loose your bearings. *startled, glances at trousers*
In the end, it was a fun and cathartic way to force myself to slow down. Compared to my other endeavors, writing and composing music seems like a "free ride," atleast in a physical sense.
On this bright and overcast day, many great things grow towards a bloom. I thank you for adding to the brightness!
It's good to hear your latest bit of madness. Your voice is very expressive and shows more flexibility each time I tune in. I like the new sounds - it is really quite amazing that you build these synths. Best regards - Dan
Hey buddy, seems like I haven't heard from you in a bit! Hope all is well! I appreciate the comment on my vocal performance, it means a lot to me. In all honesty, most of these instruments were not of my own design, aside from the Bias machine. The monotribe is modified, but only partially by me... though I intend on liberally expanding that item in the future. My recent instrument build has been an almost constant effort for about two months now, and will take at least a couple more weeks I expect. Thank you for taking a listen!
I think everything has already been said in the comments. Another fun and unique spivkurl track. It is always a surprise where come up with every time :-)
With almost every track I release any more, I am simply shocked by the reception... the plays, comments, and whatever else. I can personally understand, but when I step back and try to view things as a whole, it gets confusing. It is worth making songs simply for these chances to connect with like minded individuals, other artists, and art lovers. Thank you very much for listening, and leaving a comment!
Geez Louise. Great job. Some parts of your vocal delivery remind me ever so slightly of Siouxsie Sioux. And I love the minimalistic approach and sometimes casio like delivery. Always a treat to hear you sing. i remember back in the day encouraging you to do more of that and you have over the years so Bravo!
Steve
I too remember that you helped encourage me in this direction, and I thank you! It's funny that you mentioned Siouxsie... later in the evening after you posted this, my wife and I were getting a buzz and watching youtube. We found a little documentary about siouxsie. It was quite funny, like a bunch of her friends being interviewed while kissing her butt. The only person (sort of) in her band who was mentioned was Marco Pironi (of Adam and the Ants), who was just thrown in there in her first show as guitarist. Nothing about Steve Severin or how Robert Smith probably played a lot of guitar on here early albums. Oh well, it was funny. The "casio like delivery" idea seems to be becoming more common, though I never really thought about it. I know that many casio instruments have a signature sound, but I never though about it in terms of "delivery," which puts it more directly than I've heard. I'm happy I could get a song done in the midst of all the inst building and other hard work. Thank you for listening and encouraging!
This was quite the trip! Haha! What did you use for the vocal recording (microphone)? Was it one you made? This is so trippy and I like it for some reason haha. Maybe because it's so against mainstream (which I hear too much of nowadays) :P Great stuff, I have no words or critiques. This song is in a category all it's own LOL!
Hey there Brado! Thanks for stopping by to listen! This was not a microphone that I made, but was in fact a vintage Marantz Superscope EC-5. I find myself using that one a lot lately, as it's response just seems to work well for my performance style. "Against mainstream," I suppose you must be right, since it mirrors the way I live (most days). It was kind of fun to make a short song like this, as often when I do they are without lyrical value, more like experiments. I think this gives it a bit of old school pop value. Thanks much for stopping by!
Wow wow
Hello Spiv,
I think you've done a wonderful job here.
Your voice is really captivating and fit well within the composition.
Really a great job my friend.
Well done.

Jamid, I must thank you for consistently being there to listen and support my continued work! You also seem to be an integral part of Looperman in recent times, and that is something else to be proud of! There are a few people on here whom I like to think of as "Spivkurl fans," and you are definitely one of them. The more I listen to this, the more I hear some bipolar tendencies... I guess that's okay, I'll just add it to the list! Thank you my friend!
