My work of late is only peppered with conventional sorts of tunes, and I think of this as one of them, no matter how weird it may be. This is two months ago now, and these two months tend to be the most difficult and strenuous of each year for me. As a result, I have been focusing far from my usual endeavors... an artistic club track collab, a heavy metal remix, and several live DIY tracks.

I think things will be different now. I know that it is possible that I will completely disappear from Looperman and the internet in general at some point, as this lifestyle is killing me softly with it's poisons.

I get the constant urge to start walking south or west, and just keep going. This sort of thing is not consistent with an internet based social network, or music career.

It's hard to think about. I want something better for the earth, and I am simply buying into it with this... this thing that I'm doing.

How am I so creative? Well I suppose that, so far, I just simply don't have a choice. Most days, I feel the need to be productive in one way or another. Sometimes it isn't music, but visual art forms, writing, gardening, cooking, graphic design, electronic engineering, or activism. All of these other endeavors tend to inspire my musical work after a certain point, so it keeps coming back to that.

My capabilities when it comes to music seem to have "ups and downs." I've had slow yet engaged times, such as right now - as well as prolific but less dedicated times, such as 2012 when my albums "Glass" and "The Next One" were released. Each album I've finished has a special place in my soul, regardless of it's technical shortcomings or creative weakness. I expect at least this much from my next release.

The instruments involved in "real time" are like I mentioned in the description. An interesting interface between my modified korg monotribe and my DIY modular synthesizer. Also the bass and guitar were played by me on my Epiphone Precision Bass and my Epiphone Les Paul Studio. There were some samples, and possibly NI polyplex... don't remember what else.

I was fond of a lot of old arcade stuff in my youth. Galaga and Stun Runner were my favorites. Pole Position was also pretty cool. Once NES hit, I was forever stunned by game music... even though I don't play any more. I do have a genesis waiting for some cartridges to play, or failing that a microprocessor to run the sound chips from MIDI.

Had quite a bit of fun recording this stuff... far more pleasant and painless than my last couple of projects. It's not the music though, it's life in general. Making music always helps bring me back to what is important though. Having others listen makes it even more valuable to me.

A week ago was too soon to take in a comment like this, but here I am!

The first time I remember hearing the prefix "hella" or even "hecka" was around 1991, when I met someone named Ryan who recently arrived here from North Carolina. Needless to say he changed my life, and then soon moved on with his family to CA. I have to wonder if he helped bring this sort of terminology to CA. Either way, I take it as a compliment!

I love sufficient background music, since I am in love with being super productive, and when I am high or buzzed I tend to talk over whatever I am hearing or watching. In either case, it works out good to have music like that. It's part of why I get into music like Bool or DJ Tsukiyomi... it get's me going or talking depending on the sitch.

The city workers have literally been breaking apart the streets around here, and I may have had to take a break from making this song due to noise and cement dust (they no longer use water to quell the dust around here, shortage maybe?). So, you were right on in what you heard here... though it wasn't my original intention.

"Controlled chaos" is something I've hear in numerous comments over the years (were they all from you? ha ha). I find that the descriptive fits my tunes pretty well, but it also fits life in general fairly accurately.

My synthesis style is becoming even more spontaneous, if that could be possible. I don't even have most of my gear hooked up at the moment, so I just connect what I want to record, whether midi and/or audio.

There are some reorganizations going on in the home, especially regarding live performance and visual/concrete art. Can't help but feel the changes and the losses. We lost a huge section of our willow tree in a storm this week, a tree which we planted around our wedding time. Hard loss, but we were lucky.. leaning against the house it was!

I am picky about my subsonic frequencies. I'm not one of those mutha-frackers. Happy you liked the sound of it.

Your communication is getting quite good in english, and it's nice to be able to communicate with you. Unfortunately, I am still a weak american and have little to offer in fluency.

Having the same two synths feature in the entire song helped bring things together, I think. As is usual, they were both manipulated as they bounced to audio.

It seems that I tend toward making real bass and guitars sound like synthesizers, as they go unnoticed in an electronic song. I don't really discriminate between electronic and *electric*... so I guess that it works out.

My influences are changing by the moment recently, to the point that I can not even identify them by name. I like this feeling.

It is true, this is entirely walking music, at least at the pace I try to keep. I believe that you hear what the music is saying, and I am thankful.

Any white noise in this design is pretty incidental. It was not abused on my modular or monotribe. I don't always remember where my sounds came from though.

My recent patching sessions have been very enjoyable, and more focused than before. Most of my patch bay is largely disconnected since my last rearrangement, so I have been choosing my instruments carefully, and only connecting what I need via midi and audio. Finally got some cable nests untangled this week, so that helps!

I like the swing of the analog parts, which give a weave to walking the straight line. True to life for me lately. Timing has been an utter nightmare since FL studio 12 came out, but I am battling through it, and I think I have learned much in the process. The application could be considered broken at this point, but I think that I am growing used to broken equipment.

I am happy that you can not associate this with anything, since it means I'm doing my job as an artist. I can't think of anything which directly reminds me of this either, ha ha.

This song used to make me more sad than anything, and it made me a bit proud to have the effect on myself, ha ha. Now thing are different... better and worse. All I can do is keep my cool, and FU the man when I can.

I've been freeing up room in my studio spaces so I can dance more while mixing, so hopefully it will just getter better. I don't know clubs very well.

Hey friend! It is always a pleasure to receive a listen and comment from you! I feel that we do not always agree on things publicly, and I appreciate the fact that neither of us actively carries that into our appreciation of art.

I though about the idea behind this song for a good while, possibly too long, until the compulsion to record it became unbearable.... until nearly everything I experienced was in harmony with this idea. Have I done this to us? I can't say, but I don't think that I have that kind of power or control.

This is the sort of song which desperately begs for a remix, or remake. I resisted the urge, all the way through, to avoid destroying the initial instrumental inspiration from the contest. This probably was detrimental to the final concept. The sounds bite, and it could be way more potent.

I've been trying to work on songs and project more "one at a time" lately, and one result seems to be that I hear the musical work repeatedly in my head. It creeps into my sleep and my reverie. It disrupts my listening to other items.

The synth design was pretty fun on this one... the modular and the monotribe just go together so well, it's hard not to use them on every track, ha ha.

It was enjoyable to play the epiphone bass again. It's one of the few instruments I've ever purchased new, it just happened to be 25 years ago now. We bought a new bass, so that some work could be done on the old one, but I just can't stop playing despite it's condition.

"Cheeky" and "sly" are definitely appropriate words for this song, from my point of view. The monotribe and the modular make a great team, in a pro wrestling sort of fashion.

I've been working hard to bring an RnB/psychedelic edge to some works using guitars and basses, and man is it a challenge. Been having to change the way I think about music. Can that really be a bad thing though?

Your idea of "the whole river flowing" makes me think of the walks I've been taking along the creeks and rivers here. It's sort of a neighborhood watch item for the year, since in recent years the parks department has been assaulting the people and nature with glyphosate and 2-4d. I've been watching and waiting to see if they begin again... but it is already past when they began last year, and nothing. I worked hard to let them know it was not okay, and I'm hoping I was even a small part of the change. So the year has been a bit "sparkling and effervescent."

This is an appropriate song to return to with the work I have in progress. It's always surprising to get a comment on a non-featured track on Looperman any more, so it makes me happy!

It's funny, because the pella and two of the three loops are all dead links now. I guess that makes this song "definitive" in some way.

Hello Matt, it has indeed been a while! It's cool to see you stopping in! I seem to remember noticing that you were throwing yourself deeply into hardware stuff recently, can't say where.

I like your term "ectomorphic field." Makes me think of something which might come up during ghost hunting with electronic devices. I have intentions to build just this sort of device, after I finish this, and that, oh and this other thing... Picked up a bunch of vintage integrated circuits which should prove most useful. Probably some ghosts in there already, ha ha.

My songs usually end up being whatever I feel like doing at the time, so "weird" is an appropriate word. Having been raised on classic rock and pop music, "standard" most likely also fits!

Well that is a very interesting comment, to say the least! You are not too far off in describing some recent moments, though there are a few flaws. First, I would never participate in animal testing... at least beyond closing up all of the windows if my cat is acting sick and sniffing the air. In my lab, I am working on a sort of groove box, in a single enclosure, though I don't think that I'd go so far as to say "single cell organic." The "mad scientist is raving his head off" part is pretty accurate most days... seems that I must choose one - ranting or raving. I fully appreciate this honest impression of my song, thank you!

I take your comment as a compliment! I actually never felt the original one as being "sweet," so I suppose I didn't take it in that direction.

I do tend towards very raw sound, or at least ones which give the impression of being raw. When I get a set of stems which are well created, such as these, I can't help but try to bring out the qualities I appreciate in the stems, rather than trying to cover up "flaws."

I've been having fun with any drum related instrument lately, it's a bit of an addiction. Glad it sounded okay.

You can't believe how awesome it is to get a comment like this for me! I actually was pretty into Flash back in the eighties... flash ah ahhhh. I was a pretty big geek at times. I used to be a coin collector, now I'm an alcoholic. Goodbye silver dollar.

I would seriously admit to being heavily influenced by some of the most B grade films and television ever made. Repeated watching is the key.

I suppose that most of my drastically favorite groups have a tendency towards very raw and dry sounds. I've always been frustrated with too many effects, especially with different timing.

It's funny, upon re-listening, the introduction does sound very 1950-60's sci-fi. Sweet. I did not see that coming.

An interesting comment for sure! I don't know if the song is truly meant to be "liked," but is more an exercise in acceptance. I was to the point where leaving the house, or even looking outside, could create this "not yet" impression in me. Writing the song allowed me to pay attention to this, and possibly externalise it, so that it would no longer be a detriment. In all honesty, there are no 8 bit sounds going on in here. The two instruments in the intro go on in some fashion through most of the track, and both are analog (korg monotribe and my hand built modular synth).

I tend to pride myself on making crazy sounds. I will spend months or even years building an instrument, just in order to find that perfect sound... even if that instrument only ends up on one song.

Boundaries are for the northern minnesota waters, and have little place in music for me any more. Any resemblance to a self limitation is in truth laziness on my part, ha ha.

I appreciate your comment so much, and it is a very rare thing indeed when I receive a comment primarily in a language besides English. I will be replying in English (US English by default these days), but I will send a personal message of a french translation by Google translate (the best I can do).

The number of listens you specify makes me respect your attention to the track even more so. The electric and electronic instruments involved help with the richness in many ways, as does the authentic and little processed performance of the bass part.

The bass is shared by two parts, the Epiphone P-Bass which was largely unedited, and the monotribe which was MIDI controlled aside from the intro (which was live performance). Both of these instruments are not overly ultra low frequency oriented, and the intentions were more along the lines of an 8 track recording or eighties new wave sort of feel, neither of which were very "sub" oriented.

I have been working extremely hard on mixing in the terms of a soundscape, and timing down to the millisecond. This is partly due to the particular limitations of FL Studio in it's current incarnation (12.4.2 build 33). Things having gotten far more difficult for me, due to recent changes.

Your mention of "modern art" as a music genre is interesting, as I have been working with musique concrete, avant garde, and generative music lately. All of these things are ones which I was brought up as being "modern art." What is modern has obviously changed though, so I'm happy that I can keep up, even if it is mostly on this site.

You can be assured that this piece would be far more appropriate in uncompressed format, on compact disc and a high fidelity stereo system. My music is always meant to be heard this way, as a complete album. This fifteenth lengthy release of mine should be available soon.

I suppose with the lack of freedom available in society in general, I have been wondering why I would limit myself in art (since there is still very little THEY can touch in art). At the same time, aspects of this song are very much in my comfort zone in the technical sense, so I was definitely tied to my structure and habits for the most part.

I have been having great fun with the Pod v2, and it has opened up some creative avenues on guitar for me. In fact the "swell" effect setting in it's various setups has been quite enjoyable, like on this song. I like it enough that I have added a pedal build to my "to do" list which will incorporate this sort of function. I pretty much have the building blocks in my head... so as long as the feature creep doesn't show up like usual, maybe it will be finished before the apocalypse!
