Ha ha, yeah it's dark! Thanks for listening in! You can do some good stuff with fairly affordable microphones, so I highly recommend you give it a try!
I got a real nostalgia/retro sensibility here. Pre-new wave like the five years before Depeche Mode got their break with Fad Gadget/Frank Tovey. Tumbleweed's invoking Talking Heads works, too. Since I love that particular phase of musical development, I really like this one, too!
Hey friend, haven't seen you on the loop for a while! You made me go and look up Fad Gadget, and I must say I agree with this comparison more than the Talking Heads. It's good stuff! Thanks so much for taking a listen!
burning boardwalk - cyclonic romance - Hurricane Spivkurl - this furious mix of, well... fury, is full on electronic cranial peristalsis.
in a good way! i mean there are the Heads, there are the Cramps, and there is SK
oh yeah...it really hits its stride about 30 sec in...Dont know why, but I`m reminded a bit of some of the early Talking Heads songs (David Byrne)...I think maybe its the way the lyrics, vocal delivery and moving bass/beats etc combine....Since I have been a fan & still play the Talking Heads stuff once in a while you can bet I liked this one...Well done Spiv.....Ed
Hey, thanks much! I love Talking Heads, so I take that as a compliment! I appreciate you being the first to comment on this one! Sorry it's kind of long... Take care!
Let me get in on this. It is cool, I need to talk to you about how you did it. I am up for learning a little more, not too much because my brain is full now. Like the beat, the vocals (mysterious) and the feel of it. Vic
Hey friend thanks for taking a listen! Some of these lyrics were written quite a while ago, and I was messing about with the Cyclop synthesizer making a sonically rich and rhythmical patch, I adjusted the tempo a little and realized it would be a great backing for the lyrics. So I wrote the chorus and went with it! The beat I think was mainly composed of pretty standard drum samples. The vocals were pretty spontaneous, and worked pretty well. Interesting you call them mysterious, that makes sense. Each section of the song has a different FX chain, except of course repeated in verses and choruses. The feel of it is hard to pin down, I think the mastering has a lot to do with it. I appreciate you leaving a comment!
Cool Spiv, it's great you did vocals, I think they are a great addition to your music. I like the track a lot, gonna dl this so thanks for sharing. Everything about this track works, it has potential I think!! Well done again, it's always fun checking out your music!
Hey Wayne, good to hear from you! I figure it's a little out of your comfort zone, so a big thank you for downloading! I really appreciate the support!
I like the song. Obviously it's my genre of music. I'll be brutally honestly to help you improve. I like your voice, but the singing is a bit raw. Sounds like the lyrics are actually a little hard to sing. Perhaps a little production on the vocals would smooth out. Don't take this critique hard man - I'm no Freddie Mercury either. I do like the style. Thanks for sharing. I'm gonna add you to my list of interesting musicians.
Thanks for taking a listen to my song, and welcome to the site! Actually in comparison to my other new songs, this one is pretty easy to sing, and it was done in one day. The spontaniety of it is what I like. I'm curious about what kind of additional production you would like to hear on the vocals? I usually like pretty raw vocals, but in this case there was a decent chain of effects going on. I appreciate the support!
Awesome track as usual! :)
There's so much I could say about this but what struck me most is those vocal effects. I've never been good at that kind of stuff but if I could do whatever you did to get that effect I might actually consider making my own vocals lol.
Hey, thanks for listening friend! I'm glad you like the vocal effects, I tried a few different things before I landed on this configuration. You should try doing vocals maybe!
Great track Spivkurl! The beat is tight and the vocals take the whole track up another couple notches. Just awesome to listen too. I have always enjoyed your unique style. The production sound good too. Nice work.
Thanks much for the listen and the fave! It all started with me messing around with a synth, and I had some of the lyrics started, I change the tempo and decided they would work together. Then I finished the lyrics and it flowed well. I hadn't thought of the goa part, but I guess you mean the acid sort of bass, yeah that makes sense. I appreciate you stopping by!
well my laptop says it's 6th track which I've downloaded from Spivkurl .. I'm glad & now I can saY I've graduallY collecTed an album from U & your traX which I've liked them more for myself & think I'll be the first Iranian who can listen U in his car while going to office or coming back to home ..so more than the others I should tell U thnX Patrick for sharing them all , listening to your traX with self style can works as an inspirator for me speciallY abouT usage of synth & electronic sound .greatest respects & appreciations.___Behnam
Oh you changed your name back! Cool! Thanks so much for downloading my work! You might want to redownload this one, as I updated the mix today. I appreciate your kindness!
Very good Spiv, you know the more I listen to your vocal delivery style, in some ways it reminds me of John Fox who fronted Ultravox! before Midge Ure, then he did this amazing solo album called Metamatic. you should definitely check it out. He is Gary Numans Inspiration. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v78Jmrb1hPY&html5=1
Hey, after listening to that video I'm honoured at the comparison! Never this before. Gary Numan is very cool, and I see the similarities. Thanks for taking a listen! I dropped a new mix of this song today, with some subtle adjustments.
Yeah Spiv! it's remenber me Devo too and Front242. It's between new wave and industrial.
I love the acid bassline and...Using RoVee on intro and outro?
Nice work :)
Thanks for taking a listen! I actually haven't had the chance to DL Rovee yet, the whispered vocals are pretty heavily processed with a chop gate, a waveshaper, an amp simulator, a parametric EQ, and a stereo enhancer. I wanted them to be hard to make out. Thanks for your comment!
