Nice speaker busting basses is what this is all about and i like it. Reminds me a little of Aphex twin and i like the sampling and EFX. It all morphs into a nice groove. A goood smoking tune if ever i heard one.

It's weird, every now and then I get a comment which doesn't alert me by email... such as this one. Oh well. Very much appreciate your words here, so thank you for that! Nice to have an Aphex comparison, even though I don't really listen to that stuff in recent years. That part of my life can burn in hell... heh. I love sampling SO MUCH, especially when I can make a sweet sounding bass line from just a one shot like this. Yes, smoke it up to this one! When listening to my album, I recommend a double espresso to start with, followed by a very large joint. Thanks for the comment!

on Liberate Vocal Mix by Spivkurl
Hi Spivkurl,
just listening to your new collection right now. There are many pieces I can feel some connection to, espetially no. 1,
2, 3, 12, 13, 15 and 16. But needless to say - going into this music I like them even more. Very mixed and creative stuff. I can hear classical 80's funk groove in the 'Liberate'. A lot of 90's progressive trance, minimal techno, oldschool rave (Psychogenic Sammich)- am I right?
I am really enjoying a true classic analog sound image.
For sure I will be returning and listening to the album again.
Great work!

Greetings,
A.

Hello friend, and thank you for your honest feedback while listening to the tracks! The specifics of which songs you felt a connection with is invaluable to me, so I really appreciate that! I think introducing some recent collaborations into the track list made this quite a different album than my usual, and also induced a bit of discontinuity. The minimal techno is definitely a prominent influence in many tracks. I barely knew what trance was in the 90's, and I'd say progressive trance is one of my least listened to styles of trance... not to mention that this album may be the only of my albums that didn't contain any songs which are specifically trance. It's interesting you associate "psychogenic sammich" as old school rave, as I went into it without any expectations or intentions. I've also basically never been to rave, so it's funny, I guess I went to a christian (make no assumptions due to use of this word) festival back in the 90's and there was a rave, but that's about it. Makes me happy to hear your "true classic analog sound image" reaction, as on many of the songs I was trying quite a lot to induce that feeling... one of my dreams as an artist is to at some point get some vinyl pressed of an album or EP. Thank you very much for your well expressed comment!

Word up, Spivkurl.

I can remember saying on another of your tracks (can't remember which) that some of it sounded a bit like Hot Chip's excellent Over And Over.

Well, this sounds more like it as soon as the hats enter on 0:30. It's the bassline too.

Check out their fine track again (only thing they've ever done that I like) to see what I mean:

Hot Chip - Over And Over

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mdgLn5BFRQ

1:32 lead swirling, panning synth I like (good melody and movement). Except for the sharp, piercing notes it rises to. Too harsh on my delicate little ears.

I guess this has a weird, low key sort of coolness about it. Kind of late night lazy, dancefloor chiller when you're too wasted to dance hard.

Congrats.

Hey SN, good to hear from you! Honestly suspected that I chased you away or something... good to know better. Checked out that video you linked to, it's pretty cool, and I guess I can hear the parallels... mainly tempo range and percussion style. Couldn't hear much strong bass in their song though. I understand what you say about the piercing notes, I think the effect is not nearly as pronounced when heard at CD quality on a good stereo setup... which is really how my album is meant to be heard. What's a late night? You mean 11 AM? That's when I'm too wasted to dance hard... heh only sort of kidding... Thanks much for the listen and feedback!

Spivkurl replied 14th Aug 2014 - 11 years ago
Hey thank you friend! How do I come up with this kind of stuff? ... I guess my best answer would be a combination of studying techniques associated with minimal techno and watching my friends getting murdered... together it adds up to listenable techno which is emotionally devastating. I really appreciate the listen and feedback!

Hey thanks my friend for the words! That is definitely one of my favorite styles of techno, but I'm no expert. This is one of my favorite songs, especially considering I've never felt good at techno. It's enough to shed a tear knowing what it came out of. I always appreciate your listens and your viewpoint!

Hi Spiv,
Another good one! You know I like when you sing :-)
A lot of good words have already been spent on this one, so I won't say much.
I completely second the comment of MrValveDriver.
If we're looking for "comparisons", definitely the TalkingHeads brought up by MrPJB are one possibility but I won't forget about Devo as well.
That said... I will now download and re-listen to this many times ^_^
Ciao, Domenico

The album will in all likelyhood be released this Sunday, so hope you watch for that. Thanks again my friend!

Breakbeat mayhem ahoy! I'm digging this mate. You come up with some of the best noises on the site without a doubt. I dunno how you make those synths of yours but it's a talent not to be overlooked. This is pumping mate!! A propper breakbeaty techno mash up with some really trippy synthwork going on. This would definitely get you going on the dancefloor. I like the breakdown into the reese type synth.
It's a futuristic funked up synth fest from start to finish and it's certainly got my head nodding. It's also pretty epic at just over five minutes.
Trippy and hard!!!

Hey thanks buddy! I can't take much credit for the noises, as SUBSPORT (aka SPEX aka GoonHackz) did the main sound design on this one. Seems like so long ago, but it still has some value for sure. His stuff is always pretty heavy and hardcore, and it seems to always be what you expect, which is nice sometimes. Thanks very much for the listen!

This is definitely one grimy track. It kinda shocks you the first time you play it,but i guess you weren't thinking pretty when you made it.Shock and All Must have been your focus..I think the track showcases how much talent you got.You one of the few that can easily switch from one genre to the other.Real musician.Good work.

Spivkurl replied 2nd Aug 2014 - 11 years ago
Thanks friend, your comment made me happy! Grimy is definitely how I would describe this one. I kind of meant for the initial shock, and then some more little explosions throughout. I enjoy doing different styles, even though I've been focusing on just a few lately. I really appreciate you listening and taking the time to comment!

I don't why I haven't heard this track..there's just too many tracks sometimes. Anyways jamming track here Spiv, trippy and stays true to your unique approach. Everybody has their own style though, and everyone on here (for the most part) does their own style quite well. Not everyone has found their own sound yet but they will. You've definitely found your sound Spiv. Excellent trippy electro circus! peace

Thanks buddy for stopping by to listen! Regardless of how popular this one got, I can't exactly say that it's "my sound." Truly less original and creative than other songs that have more of a place in my heart. Not to say that I'm not pleased with it, and it will be on my new album. (Released this coming Sunday!) Trippy is always a good thing to hear about a track, so thank you! Very much appreciate your words!

Thought i'd come by for another as i'm in a track reviewing mood tonight (must be the beer) This is cool with some nice pad work going on. It's got kind of a chip tune feel to it kind of like mario brothers on drugs (Like mario and luigi need that lol) The melody is pleasant and uplifting and i reckon that this would make a good computer game sound track. What i like about your stuff is you never know what you're going to get. I'm pleasantly suprized by this one.

Hey friend, sorry that it took a while to reply. You know how it goes...heh. Thank you for the kind comment! It's funny, because I started making trance before I had really listened to much trance. Kind of gave me a twisted view of things I guess. Pads have always been a bit of a challenge for me, but some of the time I can get it right, thanks for the support. Loved super mario bros back in the day (1-2-and 3) played it for way too many hours. I appreciate you listening to another old one!

Man seriously I do not listen to a lot of industrial electronic music but i love the unconventional style of it. I like grim and grit in this track and was it was like take it or leave it. I just wish the voice was little more clear. But I guess the acid voice adds to the track's griminess. Nice track.
Spivkurl
Spivkurl replied 27th Jul 2014 - 11 years ago
Thank you very much for the listen and comment! Happy that I could induce you to listen to some industrial, as it's definitely one of the more varied and creative genres recently. Definitely a filthy track, so I'm glad you liked that aspect. I did use more effects on my voice than usual, but you might be surprised to know that before releasing it I removed several effects. Since recording this, I've been using less effects on vocals in my songs, it was kind of a transition period. I really do appreciate your input!

I like the gritty electric sound... reminds me of the old Daft Punk sound or On Sight by Kanye West. This is a sound I thought about using for this upcoming mixtape I'm producing. And the second part of this track is pretty dope. Keep it up!

Spivkurl replied 25th Jul 2014 - 11 years ago
Hey friend, thank you for stopping in to listen! I have barely listened to the artists you mentioned, but I totally understand what you mean by "gritty electric sound". Most of my favorite music has that characteristic to it. I am so out of the loops when it comes to mixtapes... to me it was a cassette tape dubbed with tracks from other cassettes or CDs of artists that you enjoyed. Never really felt stuck 20 years ago as I do now. Happy that you enjoyed the second half more, as I did really subtle things to enhance the feeling after the bridge. Appreciate you listening very much!

Sorry for taking so long to get to this one. Damn man, this is so freekin cool! I've never heard of Skinny Puppy but after hearing this I might go check them out. The vocals/lyrics are so well done, interesting and fun. You just keep getting better and better with your vocals and your creativity level is soaring!! Great job working to get it all right, nice work to both of you on this one.

Always never knowing what to expect and that's why I enjoy your tracks so much!

Hey Wayne, hope you are doing well! Thank you for taking a listen and leaving your feelings here! Really happy that you enjoyed listening. I guess I'm surprised, and also not surprised at the same time that you hadn't heard of skinny puppy. Surprised because they've been around a long time now, and not surprised because they were never very mainstream. I identify with their singer/songwriter ohgr very much. I think you might get into cevin key's solo stuff though, who is their main synthesist. "The Ghost Of Each Room" is a really spectacular album. I'm glad you found the words fun, I honestly didn't expect that kind of reaction considering the verses, so thank you for that. I've sang several songs since recording this, and I think the main thing that makes this better is that I spent more time perfecting it before calling it finished. FarM and I thank you for your kindness. I don't know what to expect next either, so stay tuned! Take care!

Thank you so much my friend! Took a lot of effort to fix the problems with this one, so it makes me happy that people are enjoying the final product. The performed parts, mainly vocal and guitar, seemed to really click and flow with this one. Can't say that I remember much about the recording session, except that it felt easier than usual. It's hard to tell where I'll be going next, but I know I have to do one more vocal song before I release my album. I really appreciate your support and listens!
