Perfect.. I think the rhythm chunking riff could have been a little more on time(0:58 to 1:12)... But if I just zoom out and listen to the whole composition.. It's fine.
I also tend to like my guitar more saturated and overdrived (But not insanely, I am not always one of those guitarist ;)..
but that is just my personal opinion.

Yup.. Love it!

Especially like that yearning feel to the lead.. It just feels like you want to scream and reach out!!!
By far my favorite of all your tracks.
I dig your style man.

As far as "all along the watchtower" goes.. Maybe, but it's just the progression.. But then when you listen to the whole, I only faintly feel it.. Not like you were ripping it off AT ALL.

WTF>... YOUR SECOND ATTEMPT AT DIGITAL RECORDING!?!!!!
WOW.

Hello Abe,
So it looks like you have listened to maybe all my songs but one. I'll have to listen to some more of yours to catch up on with regards to reviews. lol

Now you'll have to remember, this is an all loop venture. I didn't play on this one...I just re-arranged the parts (loops) and put the song together the way I wanted to hear it.

So the guitar sounds/tone you hear are what the original artist/loop maker did.
It was fun to do and I'll do a few more of these types. I have an Inde loop disk I bought and work from that. Gives my fingers a rest. :-)

Many big studios also work from loops disk to fill in parts they need in a song. Since I don't play drums, I use loop disk for most of my songs unless it is something simple, and then I do the drum part from the keyboard.

'Pro Tools' is a professional program and has lots to it. It has taken me over 6 months to learn and I just recently finished the 960 page manual. But, you don't have to use all the program has to offer as it shows several ways to accomplish the same results.

Other good programs that are deep are Sonar, Cubebase, Sound Forge, to mention 3 that come to mind. Not sure how difficult 'Acid Pro' is.
Okay, thanks for listening to this song and reviewing.

Great slide work.
I also have a blues song that is kind of doorsy, that reminded me of this..

Care to explain what you feel each part of blues represents to yourself??? I am curious.

I especially like the rhythm toned solo at the end.. and your restrain for not making it louder lol...

You have incredible talent.
I wish you had more time to focus on your music man.
Randall822
Randall822 replied Unknown
Hi Again Abe,
Thanks for reviewing this song. Yeah, slide is fun and I usually use open tunings, as it's hard to try and chord and play at the same time for me.

As for what each style means...actually nothing in particular. I know there are several styles of Blues you can play and so I was just trying to capture some different styles along the way.

I often run out of ideas to put in it and thus many of my songs are too short. So this is a way of lenghtening them. lol

The first Blues song I made, 'Blues 101', I did for a friend as he requested a blues song. But he didn't say slow or fast, so I did both in that one.
Using software to record tracks instead of a Mixer, you have complete control and can make many adjustments to the sound. Reverb, EQ, Compression, and many other effects you can add in easily without buying expensive hardware.

Then when done, you play the song many times and listen to each track separately and then together one by one with each other to make sure it all blends in properly.
So it takes me about a month or more to produce the quality in a song I like.

Thanks for reviewing,
Randy

Great medely and combination of guitar sounds. Great textures contrasting each other, and cool lol coool riffs. That is cool.

How many times did you want to pull your hair out retuning your twelve string?? I have a fender 12 string acoustic that is my nemisis guitar lol... Yours sounds like a strutting bar fighter to me... Strong cocky and all over the place. Does she have a name? Or give you much grief??

Medleys are everywhere, but this show cases a bunch of great stuff. You have like 15 awesome songs... wow, talk about time management!

Hmmm... I do and don't like the drums.. But for what it is.. It's really impressive.

Not my most favorite!
But.Favorited.

Randall822 replied Unknown
Hi there Abe,
Glad you got around to check out my other songs. I only have 5 songs done at the moment as I work alot.
On this 12 string, I tuned it down to a 'D' chord as it is easier on the neck and finger pressure is less... and just capo it up to wherever I want it.
It is a newer one, so no problems with tuning.
I don't have a name for the guitar actually.

As for the drums, I wanted to try a double bass drum set and it seemed to fit okay. I liked the sound, but double bass or kick is made for heavy metal usually. A lot of 'click' to it.
Thanks for the review,
Randy

Yah... Nothing is wrong with your playing
this mix is cool.. how it started out sedated and then BAM!

IS THIS ALL YOU!!!??

wow... Great all round... Lyrics, because country music is like the beatles on STERIODS to me.. if you get over the fact that it is throaty and twangy and slidey..

Man that is cool. It is straight up air in the hair country.

I like this.. I like country.

I love metal more.. but wow..

If you had lyrics with content, you would have a job here!

Favorotisnashion and downloading now.
I have a country song in that goes Bminor, with a cool C chord embelishment to A major with embelishment, and when you have some time, I want to send it to you....

Hi there,
Thanks for the kind review and am glad you also like country music. Basically I am using Windows XP and not a MAC. Altho a lot of people do use MACS for graphics and music.

I am playing all the parts except drums and fiddle. I used loops for those. But, I play and own all the other instruments as shown in my profile.
Sure you can send me that song you have and I'll see what I can do with it when I get some free time. As long as your not in a big hurry I mean.

In another song I did...Altern-rock, now that was all loops. But the other songs are me playing and ocassionally some help on the faster guitar parts from a friend.
I know that if I had a good vocalist, things would sound so much better.
Thanks again,

Is BigFishAudio any good? I've seen it advertised a few times and it seems to be a pretty big name, but I haven't ever seen anyone who's used it until now.

As for the track, the Piano's a pretty cool and I'm diggin the way you've used the Guitar part to compliment it. In some ways I'm reminded of the way Rock stuff sounded in the late 90's mixed with some of the stuff from today. Kinda like Better Then Ezra meets The Fray. Would definately love to hear this with some vocals. Later on!

Hi Donnie,
Yes, I would say they have a lot of good loops and constructon sets there. Just go to their web site and they have samples for every disk they have that you can listen to to get an idea of what is on it. Altho, most of the samples are very short. The Sony web site is the same way.

Thanks for reviewing 3 of my songs yesterday.
I am glad you liked them for different reasons.
I do need to get a vocalist and one I believe is in the works, once she comes back from vacation.

Into this genre for various reasons, but I could def see this being played at a Country/Western joint. I'm thinkin it'd be better if this were being performed live as opposed to being cranked outta some jukebox, but there I could also see it being played out of some old Transistor style radio.

And with that I am reminded of those Mom & Pop type mini-marts that double as the area's grocery store. The kind that's clustered in together with a gas/service station and laundry mat. The kind that has that certain smell in 'em from age and the variety of things that go on there. Kinda like a mix of dust, motor oil, cleaning products, and fried food all rolled into one. Lates!

Hi Donnie,
I am sorry, I didn't get any notice that you had left me a review. So now I am here replying to another fellows review, and I see your review.

I'll agree that this type of song would be great as a live performance as there is a lot going on, and it is fun to watch people play.

So thanks for listening and reviewing my first uploaded song. Hopefully all the rest of my songs will get better even, as I learn this software pgm.

I tend to hate blues (yup im more of a jazz type), but its only because I work in a blues pub, its kinda gets on my nerves constantly hearing it over and over, same bands showing :/

-anyways, i quite liked this, the fender part is far better than the acoustic part it has a more in your face blues appeal.

I totally dig what you are doing and the phenominal sounds you create...one of these days you are gonna have to post an actual song with developed motifs and verses and choruses and reprises and all that. I know that's not your style though...haha. This sounds great and love the melodies and rhythms. Just great. Peace, Six

Add on: 7/19/08 - Personally I don't have any issues with the sound of the drums. They are a tad mechanical, but to me they emphasize the sound and style of the guitar and it seems that on something like this that is the end goal. Peace, Six

Randall822 replied Unknown
Hi there Six.....
Say, nice to hear from you and I do really appreciate your all your comments. Your correct about how I need to be doing more with a song.

There happens to be a lady up the road from me who sings, so I may connect with her and do an actual song! Now that will be fun.

Some here don't like the drum set I used. (Double kick). What do you think about it? I love the sound myself, but do hear it more in heavy metal.

I think it fits if you use the right tempo selected for what you are doing. I haven't heard it used much on tracks here, but then again, I don't have time to listen to every song that comes out here.

As for the 'clean clear sound' I get, I plug in direct and rarely mic anything. Then use effects to get the tone I want.

Thanks again for your review. I'll get to listen to more of yours and the others on here over this weekend.

i just love all your stuff when your playing a guitar. I've always loved the sound of a 12 string. Never gotten around to buying one but I enjoy playing them when ever I get the chance. Start kind of has a 3 Dog Night Shangrala sound to it. Real sweet. I'm very jelous of how great of a guitarist you are. Of course if I wasn't so lazy and practiced more I'd be better.

Randall822
Randall822 replied Unknown
Well hello Blair.
I appreciate you listening and reviewing onother one of my songs. Guitar is what I started on, then Bass, and then Pedal Steel.

Whatever sound I was missing in my band that I really wanted to hear, I went out and bought a good instrument and learned to play it so I could use it in my own band at the time.

As you probably already know, I learned 5 string bluegrass banjo that way, and Dobro was a shoe-in as it is sort of like my Steel guitar...without the pedals and less strings. My steel is a double neck with 10 strings each.

Then I bought a Fender Rhodes electric piano and later a Wurlitzer electric piano for some songs that used those sounds. But on the keyboard, I was lame as I just chorded mostly.

Then eventually I got an ELKA synth for string effects. So I suppose it depends on how badly you want a sound.
I've have a good job so it was easier for me to get the things I wanted. However, once I got married, I had to s-l-o-w way down. :-)
Thanks again for the nice and gracious comments.

i love the fusion of elpaso style country and then the mixture of a basic rock tune, then its a creepy depressing song. and then it melds into this funk/jazz thing, totally awesome i wish i could play strings like that...

wahey, can you give me the raw guitar/bass for the funk/jazzy section i want to maybe do something with it seeing as the drums are kind of lame
Randall822
Randall822 replied Unknown
Hello there Vicious_monkey!
Well,I don't believe I've had the pleasure of listening to one of your tracks yet....but I will do so this weekend I can assure you.

Yeah, this was a medley as I call it, as it wasn't a real song like you'd hear normally. So I just put together some chords and rhythm and did about 8 bars each in the first part of what I liked to hear.
Then I added in the Guitar & Bass by itself so you could hear it without anything...sort of raw.

As for the drums, I found a large set of double kick drums and I like that sound, so I added them in, and I felt it fit nicely.
I think double kick/bass is made for heavy metal, but...again, it was my choice.

I have everything separated out so I can give you just the Guitar and Bass. I will contact you via your profile page and send them along as a mp3 shortly. OK?
If you post your results on here, I would just appreciate a comment/credit as to where you got them from. :-)
Thanks for your review and comments,

Nice touch on the 12..is that a hockey stick fender?..always wanted one!...Great listen Randall...funky rhythm patterns all over the place....with nice attack on the playing level...enjoyed this through and through...now I really want a 12 string again!....cheers planet

Hi Planet,
Thanks for your review and comments. I appreciate you taking the time to listen to it and am glad you enjoyed it.

The 12 string I used was a newer Fender Strat 12 string. If I took off the extra 6 strings, it would sound like, and 'look' like a regular Strat.

The old hockey stick style I did own at one time and foolishly sold it. Now they are bringing in over $4,000.
Thanks for your input,

Randall822
Randall822 replied Unknown
Hello djsalkizar,
Thanks for listening and reviewing my Blues song.
'Slide' is fairly easy actually. You can tune your guitar to an open tuning like "E" or "G" which is the same as a normal Dobro and 5 string Banjo tuning, and when you strum across, you have a full chord without actually having to 'fret' the instrument.

Sounds cool. It is easier if you have 2 guitars tho....one tuned to normal and an extra one to fool around with. You can use slide in a normal "E" tuning, but you get a different sound.

Hey there Djsalkizar,
Thanks so much for taking the time to review a couple of my tunes. I appreciate it very much and will check yours out as well after I write this. As for the guitar tones, yeah...I really like to hear what I am playing so I mix the session so that the lead, whatever it is, always stands out on top.
After I stopped playing in my own band way back when, I owned a complete sound system and used to mix for bands by sitting out in the audience, and that way, I am hearing what they are hearing.....and I'd adjust the sound accordingly.
The biggest complaint I always heard from people when they listened to any band was....they could never hear the vocals. Well....I fixed that!
There is a lot of good talent here on Looperman and the diversity is amazing.
Thanks again,
Randy

Randall822
Randall822 replied Unknown
Hello Mr. Six,
Thanks for taking the time to listen and review one of my humble songs. Not sure what you meant by recording with what? Instruments or Software, so I'll explain them both a little.

As for the software, I am using and learning as I go...Pro Tools 7.4. with a MBOX 2 Pro as the sound card interface,( a Firewire unit) and a Glyph GT 050 Q external hard drive as my totally dedicated audio hard drive. I record everything in Stereo!
(Also I use a Dell XPS M-1710 Laptop holding the main PT program).

Everything I play, or use as loops, goes thru that program/interface. All effects, and instruments.... and eventually vocals.

I have a variety of instruments here at home. At present, I own 9 electric guitars which include several Fender Telecasters, A Fender Strat, A Fender Strat Electric 12 string, 2 inexpensive acoustic guitars, (Yamaha and Johnson)
a newly aquired Dobro, and a '72 Framus electric (a Les Paul copy).
Also a Fender Precision Bass.

I have here and play, an Emmonds Double Neck 10 string Pedal Steel, a 5 string Banjo, and all other worldly and unworldy sounds come from a Korg Karma Workstation keyboard which also doubles as my MIDI input as needed.

My Instruments all plug directly into the 'MBox'.

If you'd like to see a picture of them all, I'd be glad to send you one.
Now... not bragging here, just that I have accumulated these instruments over time as I am 'old', and I learned to play them all over time as needed, when I was playing in my band, which was basically Country-Rock music.

Okay...hope this info helps, any suggestions you may have on how I can improve my music is appreciated. I do plan on taking one of my songs to a recording studio down the road here and have it 'Mastered' just to see what the difference would be with someone elses ears. Then maybe I can get a better 'full sound' like you hear on the radio.
Okay...thanks again for the review. I'll tell my friend you liked the song as well.

Sweet. That last part reminded me of an Alvin Lee blues disc I have somewhere. Blues & rock can fit nicely together. Do you also play blues slide guitar with the shotglass on the neck? Anyway, glad to hear from you again. Your songs are always a bit of ear candy for me. Thanks. Mokeone
Randall822
Randall822 replied Unknown
Hi Mokeone,
Thanks for reviewing my latest song. To answer your question on slide playing, I play the Dobro laying flat across my legs as it has a 'square neck', and use a steel Stevens type bar to slide with.
It is a type of bar that has 3 notches in it for holding onto.
The round neck guitar, you can play like a regular guitar. However, since I am already a Pedal Steel player, the square neck is easier for me to play. Plus since the Dobro is usually tuned to an open 'G', the upper 4 strings are tuned the same as a 5-string banjo...which I also play...thus kind of a natural fit if you will.
I am awaiting a new pickup from 'LACE' and then I can resume more cool sounds on it.
Glad you liked the song.
