great how you make that minor feel turn into a major feel with the chords man! this song sorta makes me wanna step my game up and spend some more time on my tracks! great tune bud and nice abrupt ending!
Your very welcome on your comments and I appreciate them a lot. Always do the best you can as in my note to AJ below, your music will long outlast you. How do you want to be remembered after your gone? That's how I look at things.
But then again I just turned 65, so I won't be around that much longer. ha ha
Thanks so much for your review, and I will get to your page and do a review in a day or two.
i'm so glad you asked me to check this little number out, amazing composition, production is impeccable, you are a master of your trade my friend. I love the subtle riff that kicks in at around 1:50, so smooth. I have nothing but praise for your work and i feel that even attempting to critique your work would be a grave insult on my part because you obviously know anything i could possibly say and far beyond.
so thank you very much for contributing this tune to the site and to the world for that matter!
always a fan,
TJ
I guess I forgot that your name TJ and Falter is one and the same. :-) Glad you enjoyed this tune and am always looking forward to reviews to see how I can improve.

Thanks again TJ. I appreciate your listening and commenting very much.
Randy
Hey Randy...I like to be the first cab off the reviewing rank on your tunes...Man!..super cool rhythm crunch, with that sympathetic orchestration it's killer (Excellent intro by the way)..I think you've been holding out on us man..your a rocking demon!.Have you bought a pair of leather pants lately? lol...Your tracks have always been great..but lately you've somehow raised the bar quite a few pegs..anything to do with your keyboard work I wonder..hmmm...Not only is the musicianship and production values first class..this track is going to be very popular with a broad audience I think......fantastic!
cheers Dave
Ha....your quick on the draw! Thanks for the glowing review. Glad you liked the tune throughout. I love my new Korg M-3. No...I don't own any leather pants, or never have. haha.
As far as raising the bar, I don't think I can do any better. I messed with this one quite awhile trying different parts out to see what would fit best.
Didn't even know how I wanted it to end....except I didn't want to do a fade out as I sometimes do. So an abrupt stop with a little echo after effect from the keyboard sounded ok, but still a little strange to me. :)
I actually think most anyone on this site that has been playing for a time, could do what I just did...but it's not an overnight type making tune. Have to know the ins and outs of your effects and how to make them work for you...plus some playing skills of course, and thinking outside the box.
I don't play drums, so those are loops. Getting the drum breaks right are a real challenge.
Then I learned how to 'master' as well from reading and watching a fellow studio owner in a local studio. He is pleased with my progress thus far.
I recently got a slew of Line6 RTAS software amp and effects simulations. Those are fun to mess with. Can't wait to do more with them.
So anyways, I appreciate your review and I'll review another of your tunes shortly.
Randy
I appreciate your glowing comment about this tune I made last year. It was one of the first Alt. rock tunes I put together and I really like it. I did make a longer version if you'd like to hear it. just send me your address. Basically I just
added in a repeat section, but it sounds nice.
Again, thanks a lot for stopping by and listening and giving a review. It is much appreciated.
Randy
I had to listen to this a few times to remember the Huey Lewis song. It didn't come to mind to quick, then I got a flashback of Back to the Future ha ha. This is a big powerhouse song combo. I never really thought of slowing down a track to play a solo ever. I will have to try that out. As far as the whole song sounds, it's top notch. I enjoyed the mix of Jumps synth lines with P.O.L.'s guitar. It sounded very fluid like it was originally written like that. Great combo Randy. Cheers =D
I appreciate you checking out my latest tune here. As I mentioned, it was no easy feat to do.
I liked both of the tunes as they sounded like they might fit together, so you hear the results.
Many guitarist I knew when I was playing in my band slowed down tunes to learn them them. Slowing down usually gets you half speed and an octave lower is all.
Some handheld recorders let you do this as well these days. Very helpful for learning very fast riffs, etc.
I appreciate your review and hope you'll stop by again.
Randy
Randall, I just loved the sound on your slide guitar is it a telecaster? I ask you, certainly sounds like one.
Some great playing what amp you using or is it direct into the desk?
I play slide but not as good as this.
I'm gonna listen again cos it was right up my street.
There don't seem to be many guitar players on here which is a pity......nevermind.........loved it.....keep em coming..........Dylanthermos.(Wales)
I appreciate you coming by and listening to one of my few Blues tunes. I believe on this one I used my Strat mostly. Being tuned to an open 'C', makes it sound a lot different.
On a couple of my other Blues tunes, I used my Tele. Sometimes I switch around during a tune just to give a song a different 'color'.
I always go in direct so as not to get amp hum and by using the many software RTAS or VST's I have.
One my very first Blues song which is slow like this one, I am using an acoustic guitar with that has a 3 band graphic built into the LACE pickup. That one is a Mitchel guitar.
I also own a Resonator (Dobro) guitar that I use and you can hear that sound easily as it is quite different sounding than any other guitar. That is in some Blues and country songs I have up too.
Damn.. You are like a producing machine...
Next song FUNK!!??!?!
lol
ok..
Personally, on the drums, I feel like they should be MORE "AHHHH!!!" volume wise... it is punk anyways???
More CYMBALS! Louder KICK!!!! (by the way, this is just a fan of punk talking...)
Very cool!
Another thing.. and I mean.. I amm SOOOO guilty about this, is that I lay my drums MIDI, and I do all this work on them, BUT, I never Move the Midi marker off the Beat!
Do you know what I mean?... Like.. a real drummer will sometimes be off just that little bit.. And it just fits..
I feel.. just listening, that you could definitely do that with the drums here...
but DAMN! Good job on those rolls!!!!!
sounds great!
Something that i have been practicing.. well.. not necessarily practicing as i haven't written anything in a while with midi, but I will CLOSE my eyes.. and try and match the LOOPED part...
I haven't had a decent song in months tho....
I really dig it, but it's too short, and without vocals... i just feel... like something is missing...
You should just do a 2 minute solo!!!!!!
Hello Abe,
Funk....? I could as I do have a number of Funky things on my Korg keyboard unit. Plus guitar stuff too that I could put in.
Louder drums? Could have, but am just trying to balance things out so as to make sure the lead is heard.
The kick comes out nice if your playing it on bigger speakers. If your listening to these songs on 1" computer speakers, you won't hear much bass or drum stuff.
On my system, the kick drum is punchy and tight.
In fact to me, the best sound I have made from a kick as far as 'punch'.
I hardly use MIDI anymore. Too much time messing around with it. I just use real recorded drums from www.betamonkeymusic.com these days.
I do know what you mean about not trying to make every beat perfect as then it sounds mechanical. I do have several rhythm settings that will swing the drums so they are not right on and that will give them a better feel.
Just haven't experimented with that section yet. ;-)
Yes, the song is too short. I started it at a reasonable speed, then when it speeded up, there was no stopping it.. ha ha.
hahah.. not subtle at all when you said Van Halen meets Huey Lewis!
Dare I say more reverb was in my head hearing the synths, plus more tension? The synths sounds like it is just one shot, when you could add a lot of emotion with paced feeling thru striking the keys?...
everything else sounds PERFECT.
I love the subtlety of the guitar work.
wow.
solo just kicked in.
I am going to shut my trap.
and just enjoy what is happening in my ears.
Well I wrote you E-mail before this, but I wanted to answer some in here as well. I always appreciate your review as you tell it like it is. Of course, we all have different taste and what we want or wish to hear in others tunes.
The Synth was set down and then looped so I didn't have to keep playing it over and over.
I didn't add a lot as I am trying to play two different songs in one and needed to keep things unclutered is all.
Thank you for listening to my Spanish/latin type tune. I am glad you enjoyed it. I like most kinds of music and so I tend to play what I feel like playing at the moment.
Thanks again for stopping by and leaving a review. I just reviewed your latest tune as well. It was really cool! :-)
Randy
I forgot since you are into country, I just finished a country-western track and I guess people are not big fans of the genre and I would like the opinion of someone who appreciate the style, please let me know what you think, its called Hey Dolly! my musical tribute to Dolly Parton.
Hi ya BigPete,
Yes, I just heard it and left a nice review. Again, if you didn't post a notice to it in the Members tunes section of the forum, then many may have missed it as so many songs are posted oh here each day, they disappear off the front page in hours or less!
Randy
Great stuff and being Canadian it does have the Canadian power rock sound to it, great job, I know its old but when I saw the title in the featured box could not resist, great job, I'd rather have short and exciting than long and boring, lol.
Happy that you stopped by again. I'll check out your tunes again as well. I don't get on here as much as I should.
I guess I called this one 'Canadian Pride' because I felt that it had an 'Avril Lavigne' sound to it some. As you probably know, she is a Canadian young pop fox!
Your right about being long and boring. That turns me off as well. I just couldn't think of anything else to put in this one. But I did end up making it nearly twice as long by repeating a section not too long after i did it. Just didn't repost it is all.
Had some old Grinderswitch and Molly Hatchet feel to it with a Haight Ashbury organ to chew on. I like how you mesh everything. Once you get your drum transitions smoothed out and some more ticks on the clock than I'll be downloading this one. I look forward to more. Hogscald
Hello there Hogscald,
I appreciate your taking the time to liten to this tune and giving a review back. I value and appreciate your comments very much and am glad you enjoyed it.
I usually make my tunes longer than this, but once I got going faster, there was no turning back. I'll have to agree with you on the sections where there is are two fast drum rolls to try and squeeze in. It just about makes it.
I would be happy to listen to any music you put up, so contact me when you do.
Cool segue into the main groove...I can hear some vocals laying over this(how good would it be to be able to sing as well!)..touches of Southern rock..I always enjoy listening to your work Randy..apart from the great musicianship you bring to any of your tracks you have an obviously wide array of influences and it's cool to recognise snatches here and there..I genuinely feel sorry for the youth of today they only get exposed to mediocre stuff at best..not like our generation eh..lol super composition!..cheers Dave :)
Glad you liked this tune as well. As I mentioned many times, I try and do my best and to make quality recordings....as they'll be floating around on the Internet forever...even after I am gone.
My influences are many. I play what I want to hear and what I hear in my head or dream about some nights.
I'll be 65 next month and so I am really old enough to like all the 60's-80's music mostly. Didn't care for Disco that much though! :-)
Young folks should really go back in time and hear some of the older tunes. They'll be surprised probably at some of the intricate music played back in the day.
This particular tune was just something I put together with nothing special in mind at the moment. One thing led to another. Sometimes just switching channels on TV will give me an idea from a partial tune I hear.
Hell Yeah!...a stadium buster if I ever heard one...venue owners hate these songs..everyone gets on top of the seats, starts dancing and breaks them! lol..This is really really good!..pro quality sound and dare I say it..guitar work up to Bilbozo standard (that's about as good a rap as can give you in this place)..excellent keyboard work as well Randy...bloody marvellous work!..cheers Dave :)
Hi there Dave,
Such a pleasure to have to stop by and listen to one of my latest. I figured most people that were older like me would enjoy this tune. Took quite a while to make as you can imagine.
As far as the guitar work, that was hard as I had to do it in short sections....slower....until I could get the chops down....then put in in the track as normal speed keeping the same pitch.
Thanks for putting me into the likes of Bilbozo. He is truely a great player that's for sure.
I don't believe he has heard this one yet.
Thanks again for your glowing review and I'll be checking out to see what new stuff you may have up too.
this is hott man i love the whole thing evan though i wasnt born to 84 i stilll love these two songs and you did a great job putting them together i sounds very professional keep up the work this is jus awesome God Bless
Hey, I appreciate you stopping by as well and listening and reviewing my latest. I will do the same for you.
A lot of great music was written in the middle 50's right up till the middle 80's I feel. Just before disco came in.
The sound of the guitars changed from the 50's surfing music by The Beach Boys to the Beatles and Rolling Stones in the 60's, and many other great artist (Jimi Hendriks, Jefferson Airplane, Eric Clapton and others to name a few) from the early era.
Then REO Speedwagon, Boston, Rush, and other great bands as well came along.
One of my daughters is now 16 and she is growing up with Rap and such. I am introducing her to good 'ole rock-n-roll and an country, and she likes it.
So anyways, glad you enjoyed the tune and thanks again for your comments.
Randy
I'm grinning from ear to ear. The original and the nostalgic woven together seamlessly.
are you using an amp modeler? how are you recording the guitar? I know how hard it is to mimic a live- mic amp sound without all the noise.
Now yours isn't a name I have seen before listening to my tunes, as I remember most everyone. So welcome!
I usually play/record country, rock, and blues.
I am glad to have to listen and review any of my tunes that you might be interested in.
As far as the particulars in this one, I used my Framus electric (Les Paul lookalike) and plug in direct usually. And yes I have amp modelers with in my Pro Tools software.
In fact, I think I have too much software.
I have real sounding natural pianos to electric pianos and many other various instruments including synths, such as the old ARP 2600 for weird sounds and the 'MOOG' instruments.
I use effects and EQing to acheive the sounds I want to hear. In other words, a lot of experimenting. I usually use www.betamonkeymusic.com drum sets as they are recorded live, usually 24 bit I choose.
Altho a drum machine will probably do the same....except cost lots more.
I usually record the rhythm track twice to give a song a fuller sound. This can be just the same guitar or combo of different guitars including acoustic guitars.
If you'll look at my profile and gallery, you'll see some of the different instruments I use and play myself. I also have learned the 'Mastering' side of music as well so I don't have to take my tunes to a studio anymore for mastering.
So again, thanks for stopping by and I'll give a listen to your tracks as well.
Randy
Thanks for the speedy review as you must be online too.
I'd have to say most of my tune was made from loops and piecing them together like a big puzzle. I did all the synth noise stuff just to add something different.
I don't have a Nylon guitar here so I used a CD full of Nylon guitar loops I bought last year.
Most of my other tunes are a combo of me actually playing and loops....as I don't play drums either and get them at www.betamonkeymusic.com. These are live drums recorded in many different styles.
Of course there are drum loops for free on Looperman too.
Anyways man, thanks for the nice comments and hope to hear more of your work soon.
OKAY! listened on my system. it's all perfect. those headphones are worse than i thought. everything is right where it needs to be. the panning of the instruments is done perfectly and i love the battling guitars with one on the left and one on the right. awesome. ignore my last review, you know what you are doing and i can offer no advice at all except make it as long as humanly possible. i dont want it to end.
great work.
TJ
Perfect eh? ha ha,
Well, I think there's always room for improvement on most anything. I suspect most everyone will listen to Loopermans, and other web sites, tunes thru normally lame computer speakers and cheaper headphones.
It's only when you download it and play it via another way will you hear it as it was made......in my case, using a KRK 6" monitor speakers with a 10" KRK subwoofer.
Then your in heaven when you have a good 'near field' system to mix by!
I would suggest getting a pair of Sennheizer HD 280 closed headphones. Around $100 here and there. Rated very good by many analysts. They are very loud, but no volume control on them. Just adjust the volume going into them.
If you by chance have listened to any of my other tunes...like 'Heavy Metal Highway' via the old way, prepare to be blown away with a good speaker system. I think that is my all time highest played tune on here or TT. The drums on that kick ass!
Okay, bye for now...and thanks for taking the time to write back.
Randy
randy!
as always. impeccable guitar work, you can make those strings tell stories my friend! i really dig the ominous organ/synth introducing the guitar. agree with Barry, wish it was longer! Production was top notch for the most part. everything sounding really crisp. im listening on crap headphones but the only criticism i have (which may be a direct result of said headphones) is the seperation of the instruments frequencies. a little EQ on the drum track and guitars to keep them all in their own space, so to speak should do the trick. its nothing major. im just trying to find something helpful to add haha. but yeah the drums got overshadowed by the guitars at times which can be dangerous if you lose track of the beat. its the backbone after all eh?
hope this helps in some way =]
again, always a fan, amazing work.
TJ
I appreciate your reviewing my last tune and I also very much appreciate the comments on how to improve the song by EQ the guitar and drums a little differently.
The drums, especially the kick drum, I am proud of myself as I finally got that solid punch sound that hits you in the chest.
You will hear it clearer on a bigger speaker system with a subwoofer.
The guitar tones, I basically wanted a raw solid crunch sound without effects at the beginning part, and I think I got what I was wanting.
But to be sure, EQing will certainly separate the parts better as you mentioned.
So thanks again and I will review some of your tunes tomorrow as it's time for bed now. I have to get up in 4 hours for work!
Hey Bud was just checking in when I saw you on the featured track and took a listen like I should have been all along with your amazing talent and the verdict is in--Outstanding from the quick intro to the quick kick to the main song- Outstanding - and the breaks were right on-- don't know much about the El Nino (warm water returning to the cold) But this is hot!! I loved the Spanish Flavor and the extordinary guitar Playing!! Great Job!! Two more tunes like this and I am going to start to write me a new Western. LOL Fila
So sorry that I didn't get back to your reply sooner. Kinda had a lot of messages come in and piled on top of yours that day.
Anyways, I appreciate your comments on the Spanish type tune. I am glad you enjoyed this tune. I had fun making it. Much of it was from a loop CD I have of nylon guitar. Like putting a big puzzle together.
But I finally finished it and it seem to come out ok. So reviews like yours and others make it worth while for me.
I'll check out and see what you have new.
Thanks again,
Randy
Mr Tarentino will be knocking shortly .. what a great track.. loved it. nothing I didnt like about this one . ( fancy doing an E.P with some mexican style trumpets on there aswell ??? hint hint.. mik
Hi there Mik,
I appreciate you coming by and checking out the western tune. I probably could do something with horns and such. Just didn't think about it at the time.
Thanks for the nice comments, much appreciated.
Randy
Thanks for checking this Punk tune out. I have a bunch of loops for these type of songs. I like adding in my own material though so as to make it 'mine'.
Vocals would be a welcome addition.
50 downloads...? Wow, guess I should check back more often within my own tracks.
I love this sound. Reminds me of the shadows sound of the 60's things like "Apache". The timing of where you brought the acoustic guitar and base works very well. You not only play very well but have a good ear for a well-thought out production. What electric guitar are you using for the lead part, the tone and sound of those pick-ups are superb. Sound like humbuckers to me??
Your right on the ball...Just received a message from you while I am writing this one. ha!
I usually state in a songs description if I use loops or whatever to help me out. Example: I don't play fiddle so I use loops for that in my country songs, or wherever.
I have lost track of the many thousands of loops I have boughten. Last year I bought 10 CD's full of loops from an English company. I haven't gone thru even half of them yet. Lot of orchestra stuff I don't need.
I also bought a guys entire library of CD's he made himself, another 10 CD set.
These have some Jazz loops and many other styles.
But, I still enjoy doing most of my own playing. I am not getting any younger. :-)))
I am glad you liked this country tune. I used my 'Framus' Les-Paul-lookalike guitar for this one as it does indeed have Humbuckers. It is a 1971 model made originally in Germany and worth a bit now.
That Apache song you mentioned, that was one of the first tunes I learned to play while I was stationed in France, after learning chords. The other was 'Needles and Pins' by The Searchers.
Didn't have an amp over there, so I rigged up a transistor radio to play the guitar thru the radio's speaker. It worked enough so I could hear it well. I copied the original artist Jorgman Ingman? style, then The Ventures version too. Don't belive I heard The Shadows version.
Anyways, I love old westerns as much as anyone else, and so I decided to try something and this is what came out. I added in the gunshots at the end as I thought it would be a good way to end it.
Thanks for your comment and have a nice day. Sorry for the long reply, I get carried away!!!

Yes, I just heard it and left a nice review. Again, if you didn't post a notice to it in the Members tunes section of the forum, then many may have missed it as so many songs are posted oh here each day, they disappear off the front page in hours or less!

Thanks for reviewing this.

Thanks again for your review.

Thanks again for your review.

So anyways, glad you enjoyed the tune and thanks again for your comments.

are you using an amp modeler? how are you recording the guitar? I know how hard it is to mimic a live- mic amp sound without all the noise.
either way, quite impressive.. added to faves.

Anyways man, thanks for the nice comments and hope to hear more of your work soon.

great work.

Perfect eh? ha ha,
Well, I think there's always room for improvement on most anything.
Okay, bye for now...and thanks for taking the time to write back.

as always. impeccable guitar work, you can make those strings tell stories my friend! i really dig the ominous organ/synth introducing the guitar. agree with Barry, wish it was longer!

I appreciate you coming by and checking out the western tune. I probably could do something with horns and such. Just didn't think about it at the time.
Thanks for the nice comments, much appreciated.

on Punk Me Up by Randall822
Thanks for checking this Punk tune out. I have a bunch of loops for these type of songs. I like adding in my own material though so as to make it 'mine'.
Vocals would be a welcome addition.
50 downloads...? Wow, guess I should check back more often within my own tracks.
Thanks again for the nice comments.
