I like this too.
Danger .... danger .... go back go back!
Science fiction.
Mystical and yet .... I can hear someone in my head singing the blues to it!!
Like it a lot.
I listened to this all the way through and it's a long way through to keep my goldfish sized attention span but you did it. Kept taking me somewhere from the past ... reminding me of something but what? For some strange reason I ended up having to go play Robbie Robertsons Somewhere Down The Lazy River which is nothing like this but .... I think it's the mood. I could hear his voice feel his presence in this.
It's a hit for me when a piece of music plays with me like that.
I haven't heard Robbie Robertson for thirty years since his Lazy River song was in the British charts so how and why I ended up there I know not.
Great tune. Great experience.
really interesting dark-ambient kind of thing. Overall the song sounds quite strange and unusual, especially panned drums - very unlike of anything I could hear in the mainstream. nice work. Alex
Hi. This is some pretty impressive, creative stuff.
The first groove is instantly good and has a weird, swarming sound to it. An interesting shaker sound panning from left to right. Quite a strange, busy, swampy feel to it.
Then a big change as all that extra percussion drops out at 0:48.
Then the percussion returns a bit later.
1:03 that's a cool psychedelic synth part.
1:36 it feels like it could really do with a fatter kick drum to make it more powerful.
2:24 a tinkly lead and I really hear the rythmic panning on the synth and percussion.
After your breakdown around 4:30 you return with lots of parts that have already been heard. They're good parts, nothing wrong with them, but I guess I was hoping for some other progression of the sounds and maybe some new ones. That's just me being picky and honest about what I would like to hear.
All the same, it's good and interesting work.
P.S. Glad to hear that you enjoyed Valvedriver's stuff. I was pretty sure you'd like his music.
Thank you very much for the kind comments and thank you for the constructive criticism. Sadly I can't go back and remix as the masters were destroyed. The last part was intended to be so as vocals are to come. I want to try something elaborate with layering and effects so I tried to leave some room and intended it to be samey so that your attention will be drawn to the vocals. Yeah and really like Valvedriver's stuff :)
Thanks for the link. I'll have to check that out properly when I have time. My daughter's about to give birth any time now so things are a bit hectic here at the moment, lol. TT
Ya know, I wouldn't exactly say this is strange. I think you could have probably gotten away with putting it in the Cinematic genre. It sounds like it came straight out of one of those great 90's "Cyber flick's"
I like it's linear progression. The beat and bassline is a good driving one that keeps it rolling. There are enough other elements going on that it doesn't get boring, or too repetitive. The panning keeps it nice and dynamic. There's a lot of good motion. I like how you kept it darker like an industrial tune, but still gave it a sweet-ass funky edge.
I do, however, think that the changes could be a little more seamless. For example, 2:35-2:45. It doesn't seem to fit. Maybe if there were a build up. Maybe a snare roll, or a riser of some sort leading into it. Then again from 3:36-3:41.Same idea.
The use of vocals in this effective. They bring an almost "Atom Heart Mother" vibe to it.
What are you using for drums in this? (Sorry Static, beat ya to it, bro!). Are they loops, or something like EZDrummer or NI Drumlabs? They sound pretty uniform, but sit a little far back in the mix. If you bring them up in the mix just a touch, the overall sound would be a little more clear and punchy.
Of course, this is all just my opinion. Take it for what it's worth. Overall, I really dig the tune. Keep it up!
Thanks V, I didn't even think of Cinematic as a genre but I think you're right. It's a better fit. Atom Heart Mother is an excellent album (I'm a huge Floyd fan), Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast, lol. Thanks for the constructive criticism. I need more of that. It's one of the best ways to grow as an artist. Sadly all my masters were destroyed so I can't go back and fiddle with it anymore. All of my music is made with loops and one shots, no instruments. Arthritis crippled my fingers. I used to play bass, trumpet, percussion and keyboards but now it's too painful and my fingers are too slow and crooked. TT
I really enjoyed this. Industrial, atmospheric, emotive and slightly disturbing. Made me feel uncomfortable then relaxed then on edge again, a roller coaster.
Thanks Simon, I'm glad you enjoyed it. The intention was to make the song emotional as I have a version with lyrics that is about something very personal. It's all about my war experiences and post traumatic stress disorder, so it was intended to be a bit disturbing. So watch out for the full version at some point :) TT
Digging this right from the outset. There's some splendid noises going on in this track and i'm loving the panned efx. That bassline is excellent. As valvedriver said it's interesting because of the fact there's no percussion but it all rolls along niceley.
Cool efx throughout.
