Description : Those of you who have been here for more than 5 years knows exactly what it means when I say this is Old-school Valvedriver. For those of you newer than that, it means that this is dark, aggressive, and relentless in it's consistent driving force. This is an all new, all synth track. For the synths, I created everything in Serum and Sylenth1. Enjoy. Take care. V.

Wow, this is an absolutely throbbing, pounding track! There's so much to like here; the drums, the guitar, the throbbing bass synth, the sound of the gun being cocked is a nice touch and the chior reminded me of Engima on steroids! Especially at around 2.11 before it builds back up again. Absolutely stellar track V.
Damn. Enigma. I haven't heard that one in a while! But now that you mention it, I can totally see were your coming from.
I mentioned in one the replies to an earlier comment that the choir bit in this track is from one of my favorite pieces, "Miserere mei, Deus". Just in case you didn't see it. So, no Enigma here.
Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment. I appreciate it, and I'm glad you liked it.
Take care.

One question that came to my mind was if you had created the music before or after listening to this choir, but you have already answered this, in one of your replies. So I will ask you, do you consider it possible that this hearing could have driven you to writing the music for Shapen In Wickedness? The question actually comes from the way that everything fits so right in your song as if one was made for the other and I mean your music and the choir singing.
Anyway, it is an excellent work with a powerful outcome especially for the admirers of this genre (I mean the darker mood of your composition)
Best wishes, Anthony
Anthony, that is a great question.
The short answer is that it was a happy accident.
The long answer is, when I was working on this I felt that it needed something more. Something powerful but elegant as well. I have listened to Miserere mei, Deus many times in the past, and thought it would be a good fit. So I loaded it up and like you said, it's like they were made for each other. It wasn't my intent to use this when I started working on it, so I was pleasantly surprised when I realized that both pieces are in the key of G, and the beats were only off by a couple bpms. It was such a small adjustment, that it didn't affect the sound of my track. There were things I already had in there that ended up lining up perfectly with parts of the choir. So, total coincidence.
I suppose there could have been a subconscious inspiration, but I really think it just worked out how it did out of pure luck.
Thank you for taking the time to listen and leave a great and thoughtful comment. I truly appreciate it.
Take care.

I have always strived to comment honestly and provide what I believe to be helpful criticism. However, after the attack on me, I was on the verge of turning my back on LM. But the positive reaction and the encouragement not to do so prevented me, as I realized that there is still a community. Nevertheless, it has made me more cautious in my statements. But I do not lie. When I say I like a song, then it is so, and I still point out noticeable mistakes. And to all those who do not like constructive criticism, they can turn off the messaging function. By the way, I really like your slogan!!
I wasn't aware that there was an attack on you. I'm sorry to hear that. I don't know if he still does, but at one time, Mr. Looperman himself kept a pretty tight watch on the place, looking for troublemakers and dealing with them accordingly. There is still a strong sense of community here, but it's just.....different now. Obviously, I can roll with the changes, I'm still here too.
I'm glad you chose to stick around. You bring encouragement for those who need it.
Take care.
V.
You will. I have no doubt. But, I have to say, I really like your style. I love how you're able to do so much to get such a full sound with such minimal amounts of instruments. I can give you pointers someday if you ever have questions on how to achieve this kind of thing.
Thank you Rita! I'm glad you enjoyed this one as much as you did. This one is what Valvedriver sounded like in the beginning. (but better). I'm working on a few of them that have more of this sound. Stay tuned!
Take care.

Hello, sorry to bother you again. As an avid reader of news not just within my song area, I would like to share my opinion on the death of LM. LM will not die because of the update! If LM dies, it will be because of its community. We are the ones who need to ensure that LM continues to exist with our productions. This includes how we treat each other and the help and support we provide to others who have problems with their productions and can learn something from one of us. Folks, this is a free opportunity to present and represent ourselves. It certainly has room for improvement, but it has also become a musical home for many. So lets make sure this home continues to exist and becomes better and more harmonious. It needs to be a place where polite, constructive criticism is possible, which helps and supports.
It's no bother at all. I don't mind non-track related comments since Mr. L took the forums away. I can understand why, but, none the less...
You are correct in what you say. At one time, this place was a gold mine of information and advice. Like I said in response to Aaron, most of what I know I learned from others on this site. I still try to keep that alive. I'm sure some people don't like it when I throw critiques in, but most do. So, I'll keep doing it.
Personally, I love it when I get constructive criticism. My original tagline here was "I'm not here to get famous. I'm here to get good."
the comment section is appalling on this site, quite frankly the restrictions are a stupid idea the place is a shambles everyone's give up on it the update is absolutely garbage it says 3000 for a reply i get the limit exceeds 1000 then underneath min3 max3000 WTF admin are shite and aren't interested there more interested in their sponsors than the people and artist that give them the money they make, all we get is a useless platform with pretty colours its about to die a death in my opinion
Yeah. There are a lot of bugs since the update. But I don't really think it's going to die. At least I hope not. I guess that depends one whether or not Shan listens to the people and makes some changes accordingly. I guess we'll see.
otherwise you fear for the rest of your days waiting for the clip to click, then bang, your done, breathless. like this piece, takes your breath away quality mix and transitions, great sound, the music is the selling point the vocal clip is a great placement and the choir is lit, it sounds great on both speaker and headset mate back to back listens, had me poppin and strobing bro top top job.
Paul, how are you, friend? Well, I hope.
I will say that since I've been here, I have learned that the Valvedriver brand has definitely carved out a signature sound. It's been said that it does carry through in whichever genre I go with. Funny thing is, I can hear it, I can feel it, but I have no idea where exactly it comes from or even how to pinpoint it.
The choir bit in this track is from one of my favorite pieces, "Miserere mei, Deus". Although I'm not religious, (rather anti-religious, actually), it's still such a powerful piece. I had to use it.
I'm glad to hear that it sounds good on multiple systems To be honest, I've been pretty lazy about double checking on all my different tester systems. I just shoot it out there and hope for the best. lol.
Always good to hear from you, mister.
Take care.
Aaron.
Aaron I'm not yet 4 years in, you have been a regular listen for me, you also linked me to your older tracks too, so i know exactly what to expect from you, i love the industrial and metal elements in your pieces always, add the electronic edge too, its your own distinct style, we are friends and you always compliment me when i add darkness to work, which i love and respect because you always add from the man who does nothing but dark :))) this isn't dark, this is death, you shot me six times in the track that hardy bitch popping off shots, a track off fear and menace, when the dark lord V speaks you listen,

Hello ValveD...just listened to your track and right away I had a hundred different images that this track could represent... all of them being on the thunderous and piledriving side. It takes control right off the top and never regents.....enjoyed it a lot my friend.
Hello Glenn. I'm glad you stopped by. I always appreciate it when someone takes time for my work.
It's good that you had a hundred different images with this. When I make a track, I tend to try to paint with sound, hoping that it evokes something within the listeners mind, or heart. Your confirmation encourages me to continue.
Thank you again, Glenn.
Take care.

"I remember a time of chaos... ruined dreams... this wasted land. But most of all, I remember The ValveDriver. To understand who he was, you have to go back to another time..." Yes, this track definitely takes me back 10 years or so. I love the tension throughout this thing man, it grabs you and doesn't let go. I know you didn't label it as such and it lacks the fat saw wubs and deep bass growls but it does have a certain dubstep vibe to it. Which I like. A lot of tasty midrange stuff going on here and I especially love the screechy fm mutator thing, awesome bit of work with that. The choir is a genius element because it seems to represent the angels trying to contain the demons here. Solid track overall, and definitely a nice return to the origins of what we old alums wigged out on when the ValveDriver first dropped that Heavy Shit on us years ago.
Mr. Neo. I remember a time when I would get critiques from you, Evisma, Static Nomad, and all the other old timers. The fact that the critiques have lessened to few and far between just lets me know that I've finally gotten good. Finally.
In my synth based tracks, and even a few metal ones, I have always liked to add some form of dubstep synths. I like them too. When used right, they do have a particular attitude.
It's funny you mention angels and demons. That's more or less what this is about. As is most of my work. The conflict of good and evil. How the iniquity of man disguises itself in the clothing of righteousness. The title was taken from Psalms 51:5. "Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me". I just tweaked the one word for the context of the song.
A little over a decade of darkness from the Valvedriver camp. And there's no sign of light on the horizon!
Thank you, Neo, for taking time. Your opinion is one that truly matters.
take care, brother.
Hello Aaron (V),
I haven't been here for five years yet, but I can already say that this song has a lot of meaning. I've already told you that I find your songs to be ostensibly dark, but full of emotion and radiance. However, I dare say that, contrary to the title, this is not about made-up malice, but rather a kidnapping into another world.
I also don't think that you don't care about other people's opinions, as you wrote in a comment, for example on Rita's. I think that you think about it when someone tells you their opinion! But you are one of those steadfast people who can distinguish between what is important and what is unimportant. That speaks for your character, not for malice.
Since I'm known here as an arrogant complainer, smile, I'm going to complain about your song now. Damn! I can't find anything to complain about *lol.
Hello Manuela.
First, I'd like to thank you for not only taking the time to listen and leave a comment, but leaving a comment with thoughtfulness and depth. I admire that.
I'm interested in your thoughts on the kidnapping into another world. I wonder if you are thinking along the lines of my original intent. I guess it depends on how deep one would want to dig within the analysis.
There is truth to what you say in regards to my caring about peoples opinions. But that's a conversation that goes far deeper than the comments section on Looperman tracks.
From what I have witnessed of you, Manuela, arrogance is not on the list. Nor is any complaining, really. I suppose I'm not the only one in which the term "ostensibly" applies, huh? ;)
Do take care, and I hope you enjoyed your weekend.

Hello, my friend. I joined LM back in 2019, which seems like 100 years ago. But I didn't realize the amount of real talent here for quite awhile. Even then, it never occurred to me that I'd find works like yours here, for whatever reason. But I'm sure as hell glad I did. Among the heaps of praise I pile on, I realized that I haven't mentioned this - u always achieve as clean a sonic mix as it gets, one of the things I take pride in myself. It's an underrated feature, I'll tell u that. Because it's not a walk in the park to achieve that sometimes. The little things definitely do not go unnoticed by me. Like everything I've heard from u, this is mf superb dude. I'm glad I came across your work, you've inspired me to take that step and make my current project happen. I promise it wouldn't have otherwise. So my thanks really means something here. I'm still waiting to collaborate with u in some way before I'll consider the project truly completed, it wouldn't seem right otherwise.
Aaron, how ya doin?
I'm glad I could inspire you. It's always good to know that what you do makes others want to do bigger and better. For that, I thank you.
It took a lot of bad tracks to get to these good ones, as I'm sure you know. When I joined in 2012 I had some real ugly ones. But it was because the crowd back then were full of people who weren't afraid to leave constructive criticism. I'd say about 80% of what I know now, is because of those back then. I learned so much. I wish more members still did that. I mention it because, to me, that in itself is a great form of inspiration.
As far as collaborating on M. Squadd, get ahold of me over on Discord. Let me know exactly what you're looking for. We can discuss it over there.
Until then, take care.

Description : Feel free to check out the video on YT as well (Alan McLaren Project - Upside Down) of this 6min journey from electronic to rock with some psychedelic moments...
This is my latest, but also one of my earliest tracks.... any feedback is more than welcome, thanks :)
Description : 'The main point of this song is really about the frustrations of living in the overload of today's World of Tech. The consequences are impaired communication and that if you advance too far you end up diminishing what you had to start with, so you are way worse off.' Enjoy a 60s Rhythm with a modern deep Bass, a Sitar, a Piano from EvilPianist, a lost flute from UniverseHuston and some Oscillators :-)

Description : A demo of one of my current projects. The chorus vocal sounds like "Aaaaraashe" to me. The song is in C# minor with a nod to C# pythagorean on the chorus. The beat on the verse was inspired by the Peter Gabriel song Intruder.
Description : This is one of my earliest productions that I did at the start of my recording career. I did not have a keyboard at the time I made this song, so I improvised and used my sister's iPad and a 5 dollar GarageBand application instead, and plugged the headset jack into into my PT6 rig and did my best to turn each individual track (which were mono and there were about 25 tracks or so) into a stereo image. Then recorded vocals over it. My computer was so old and slow that I had to mix my music and then BOUNCE it to a new session - four times. My computer (which had 512 MB RAM and an 80 GB hard drive) couldn't handle more than 8 tracks at a time or it'd stop working because the processor couldn't handle it. Took me FOREVER to do. But I got it done. Had a lot of fun doing it too, even if it isn't my "best" work. I'm still happy with it, considering I didn't have many tools to choose from at the time.
Description : Long time lurker first time poster, pretty new to production n stuff, this is my first track in Ableton Live.
was going for a darkwave/synthwave sound, reminiscent of Justice, Carpenter Brut, Perturbator, ect.
Looking for some feed back, constructive criticisms or even just your thoughts if you liked it or not. This is just a rough cut on this current WIP, just the bones of it if you will.. If you have some cool title suggestions, would love to hear those too.
Thanks for listening.

Description : Far out mid-tempo fat beat deep chillout grooves with Eastern/Arabic and slightly menacing vibes, huge delayed synth bass and a great palette of psychedelic layered and intricate sounds (mostly synths) and a stirring, epic feel. Even has guitar solo section reminiscent of some 80s power rock which is then followed by a brief synth harp solo. I began making it straight after staying round the flat of the flute player from the legendary Ozric Tentacles - easily the greatest ever space rock band. I made this in about 2001 and still think it might be my best track (and it's nice and short, for a change). My production skills were much weaker in those days (no EQ, compression or mastering used here) but, somehow, this one turned out pretty much just right. Feel free to disagree. Now sit back and get ready to trip extremely far out. If you manage to return, let me know how that trip was...
