Listen To Velvet Electronic Song By Spauly At Looperman.com

14th Sep 2014 20:06 - 11 years ago
Description : That's my 2nd song. I started with three drum loops (different genres). I filtered and eq'ed them until they matched.
After that, I started playing around with a couple of arps. The rest was simply fun.
It's not a very sophisticated track, but I thing it has character.

Hello again. Thanks for the good reply.

“ I started working with synths in the mid 90s.”
I was pretty sure your track couldn’t be made by someone who was a total beginner. I’m guessing you used synths in the 90s, maybe played in some bands but, as you say, didn’t actually work on your own stuff.

I guess all the learning you did back then helped a lot when you started making music again in 2010.

I only ever took a weekly lesson on bass playing for 18 months aged 15-16 and am mostly self taught on using a DAW. I think loving music, thinking deeply about it and listening very closely to recordings and watching live bands helps a lot. I listen to everything thinking how I would do it better, or at least differently, and pay attention to which sounds work really well together.

“I can only produce one or two tracks per year”

That’s a shame. If your other tracks are anything like this one, it would be good if you could work on many more.

“the sound appearing at 2:35 is a dulcimer.”

Cool – I would not have guessed. I have used dulcimer a little in a few tracks but it didn’t sound like yours does in this one. Try these tracks of mine for two different types of dulcimer:

I’m not able to listen again to your track right now but will probably return with some more words on the rest of it when I’m able. I think it’s worth discussing more.

Greetings from London.

yes, definitely it has a character. very clever and creative work on filtering this main bass/pad/lead loop. I like simplicity and much appreciate the way you actally develop entire track just from this... . nice choice of interesting loops and athmospheric pads along the composition - very groovy and catchy main theme... simply great work - keep it up!
Greetings,
Alex

Big congrats on your second song. An excellent effort that sounds good right from the wobbling, modulating intro.

Drum loop filters/fades in nicely.

Slightly different complexion to it on 1:07 when the new, bigger loop comes in.

1:21 I like that loop and you've done well to combine them. Good drum layering and movement that's providing more interest than the riff itself.

2:06 break fills take us nicely to the breakdown and some organ-like pads.

2:35 melodic spinning plate sound. That's great but what is it?

2:43 new high melody quite beautiful. Your bassline hasn't got boring yet. Perhaps because of everything else you're doing around it (doesn't always work that way).

3:33 another high arp riff. You've done enough for a whole track. But why not continue for a while? That's what I like to do!

This is really very professional-sounding so outstanding work if it is really your second track (I'm not sure I believe you).

You have a lot of talent even it's your millionth track.

I may well return and comment on the rest.

Thank you very much!

It is my 2nd track indeed. I started working with synths in the mid 90s. But I sold my equipment in 2000 because I needed money. But until then, I never wrote my own songs. I restartet making music in 2010.
I never took lessons on playing an instrument or how to handle a DAW. So I have to learn everything by trial-and-error. As I am working full time, I have little time for my hobby. This is the reason why I can only produce one or two tracks per year.

Just for your background: the sound appearing at 2:35 is a dulcimer. I made it with Ableton Live's synth "Tension", which is rather underestimated. There is a lot of reverb covering the sound to give it depth and warmth.

Greets from Berlin!

Hey Spauly

Very nice effects used at the intro into the track, very nice clarity of the mix, don't know to much about this genre so can not give to much feed back genre wise, except to say I am really enjoying the arrangement and groove coming from within the piece, to me it has a very trance type feel about it many places, impressive for your second track, love it, string pads standout for me, as I use them a lot in my genre trance...Fav...Peace n Respect...Mosaic...

Spauly, I dig this man.
Really nice minimal. If this is your 2nd track, you really got some talent. The production is really good and I enjoyed the choices made on the instruments and effects.
Cool track, look forward to hearing more from you.

I really enjoyed this. I love the sound of that synth playing the melody throughout the song. I don't think I've heard your first song yet but your second one sure sounds great! Keep it up.

Thanks,

my first track "I earned" is in my track list. But don't expect too much. I made a lot of mistakes in both arrangement an mixdown/mastering. It is a good example of what you can screw up in a track... :-)
Listen and cry... ;-)

Description : 'The main point of this song is really about the frustrations of living in the overload of today's World of Tech. The consequences are impaired communication and that if you advance too far you end up diminishing what you had to start with, so you are way worse off.' Description : A demo of one of my current projects. The chorus vocal sounds like "Aaaaraashe" to me. The song is in C# minor with a nod to C# pythagorean on the chorus. The beat on the verse was inspired by the Peter Gabriel song Intruder.

Description : This is one of my earliest productions that I did at the start of my recording career. I did not have a keyboard at the time I made this song, so I improvised and used my sister's iPad and a 5 dollar GarageBand application instead, and plugged the headset jack into into my PT6 rig and did my best to turn each individual track (which were mono and there were about 25 tracks or so) into a stereo image. Then recorded vocals over it. My computer was so old and slow that I had to mix my music and then BOUNCE it to a new session - four times. My computer (which had 512 MB RAM and an 80 GB hard drive) couldn't handle more than 8 tracks at a time or it'd stop working because the processor couldn't handle it. Took me FOREVER to do. But I got it done. Had a lot of fun doing it too, even if it isn't my "best" work. I'm still happy with it, considering I didn't have many tools to choose from at the time.

Description : Long time lurker first time poster, pretty new to production n stuff, this is my first track in Ableton Live.
was going for a darkwave/synthwave sound, reminiscent of Justice, Carpenter Brut, Perturbator, ect.
Looking for some feed back, constructive criticisms or even just your thoughts if you liked it or not. This is just a rough cut on this current WIP, just the bones of it if you will.. If you have some cool title suggestions, would love to hear those too.
Thanks for listening.
