Description : "Pink on Blue" was the first track I wrote for the "Brothers of Invention" Cd. I've always liked the groove on the Clapton song "The Core" from "Slowhand" and "Just One Night" and wanted to write a song with a similar feel. This one is a little slower than "The Core" but has a lot in common with it. It's alike in the way that the bass line stays on the "1" (the first note in the scale) while the guitar and keys move back and forth between the "1" and the 4th note. I didn't want to take it up to the "5" because it would have given it a 12 bar blues feel so I kept repeating the 1-4 sequence until the bridge and then again up until the end. There's some percussive looping going on as well as some synth like background FX (mostly in the bridge and the end of the track. For the most part it's all hand plucked : ) Enjoy!

Description : An alternate mix from that found on the 2008 instrumental compilation... "Brothers of Invention".

Description : This tune was written way back in 1985 on a borrowed 4-track. I used to do a lot of session work in trade for studio time and the use of home recording gear which was super expensive back then. I stored it away and didn't think about it again until 2004 when I decided to re-record it for my 2005 Cd "Bio Rhythm". This song as well as another track "Lunch with Rufus" were both written in '85 and re-worked for the 2005 (3rd instrumental) Cd. FYI: "The Ceiling" is a pilot's reference to the visible underside of a cloud covering. A day with a 10,000 ft. ceiling is a good day to fly!!!

Description : Funky drums and bass with lots of eclectic streetwise guitar riffs.
"Contours" is the first Cd I really started experimenting with loops. Almost every cut on the compilation has loops featured predominantly. The guitar tracks are all real. I rarely ever use guitar loops seeing as guitar is my main instrument. I also use the guitar as a percussive effects instrument at times with some licks having very little melody at all. This is more common on the "Contours" Cd over the other three instrumental releases.

Description : "Truth" is a medium tempo tune from my first instrumental Cd entitled "Speechless" released in the Spring of 1998. It's got a steady picking acoustic guitar throughout and some very melodic rockin' slide guitar happening through the verses, the lead and the outro. Listeners of this Cd often tell me this tune is their favorite from the 12 song compilation.

Description : Heavy electronic tune with lots of barely melodic percussive guitar, an eerie synth melody doubled up with some slide guitar and layed down over a driving bed of straight ahead drums.
Would you like something to drink with that?

From the Cd "Contours"
2003 Quadrasonic Recordings
