I only have one surviving track from 27 years ago. Maybe 2 if I dig deep enough in the files. Sometimes I think about posting it, but then I listen to it again, and I just can't bring myself to do it. I still love it simply because it was one of my first completed tracks, but man...it's rough.
There are a lot of elements in this track that take me back to when I first started. I do really dig the synth work at 2:05. I like the cutoff/Reso work.
Cool work, man. Thanks for sharing.
Yeah, I have aprox about 200 songs from 98-2004 when I took an 8-year break. Then from 2012 on I embraced Acid Pro and samples. I seem to be falling back into break mode again.
You want to know what's so great about this song? I mean, aside from the fact that the lyrics were inspired by Sesame St. It sounds like it could be track #11 on any given alt/Grunge CD from 1994. You know, the one that's kind of acts as a break after all the hits, but before the one or two that never got airplay, but go harder than the rest.
It's cool, really. This is a new song, (comparatively), but it still took me back as if I had been listening to it for 30 years.
Excellent work, my friend.
Take care.

Any more laid back and it would fall over lol, though it's probably half way there. I figured this one probably wouldn't have any sort of mass appeal, like most of my stuff, but to the right ears I hoped it might be candy....Thanks for the listen and comment/fav etc. Much appreciated mate.
Good work on this. I have to agree with Micky's comment below, the guitar does have a touch of Robbie Krieger in it. I think the only critique I have is that the percussion could be just a nudge louder. Other than that, great track, man.
Take care.
V.
You're off to a good start. Something to keep in mind, if you're playing this live, then you should try recording the guitar 4 times. Assign each recording to their own track in the mixer so you have 4 different channels of the same guitar part. Then, you'll want to pan channel one 100% to the left. Pan channel two 70% to the left. Then, channel three 70% to the right, and finally, channel four 100% to the right. By stacking them and giving them stereo separation, this will give it a very wide, full and big metal sound. By going no less than 70% it leaves a pocket in the middle for the bass guitar and vocals to sit without any frequency interference. But, you have to record them individually. If you just record it once and try sending copies to four channels, You will get terrible phasing, because all of the frequencies are identical and playing at the same time. There has to be some variance in the tracks to avoid that.
Again, you're off to a good start. Give this a try and see what you think.
Take care
V.
I like it. Every now and then a good politically charged tune needs to come around. I like the fact that with everything said, you guys focused more on the human condition and took a pro nature stance. You remained neutral in political affiliation, and basically reported on current events. I absolutely LOVE Rita speaking her native tongue in this. (at least, that's what I believe it to be.) It's very symbolic in unity.
Very well done.
Musically, this has an interesting aura. It has a slightly 80s feel to it, in the sense that it's a heavy subject matter, but it's still upbeat sounding.
On a completely unrelated note, I fucking love coffee! So much so, that I go as far as roasting my own, so I KNOW it's going to be fresh and delicious!
Excellent work, you two.
Take care.
V.
thanks Aaron the first to point out the unity, yes it was extremely important to me, to show that symbolic nature two countries coming together addressing things we clearly see as people, i suggested to Rita to sing her verse in her native language as she can put real feeling into it instead of staged, it was trying for a shared approach believe it or not Banana Lu was supposed to be joining us which would of added further world harmony but he must have struggled with time, oh well its still a good piece and as the word coffee is universal its easy and catchy to follow along irrelevant of language the translation is there so you know what Rita is saying, and sitting down having a coffee and listening to the birds sing is a pleasure in itself, great to know you are a member of the Coffeeclub i love it and over indulge, my son goes mad, you can a whiskey instead pops you've had six mugs in the last 2hrs for f#cks sake, i just laugh say make it a double i'll put the kettle on and make myself a coffee chaser :))
This is really nice. The music in it reminds me a lot of some early Syd Barret era Pink Floyd. The vocals, obviously very different from that, but still very well done. It's very pleasant and dreamlike. Good work.
Take care.
V.
The time you spent on this paid off. To me, it sounds good. The mix is crystal. Your transitions are seamless. Excellent use of effects. The change up of beats keeps it moving along without becoming stale or uninteresting, and done without it sounding like it was puzzle pieced together.
I have a track posted up here that took me almost 400 hours to get right. Much like you, I would get stuck, and toss it aside. Then come back, delete half of what I did the previous time and start over. Adding here and deleting there. So, I can relate, man. I know how it turns into a love/hate thing by the time you're done.
None the less, you've done a great job once it was all said and done. Keep it up!
Take care.
V.
Thank you so much for kind words. This project has really been a huge pain mentally. I am so happy how good this song turned out, even tho it literally is stitched together from early year stuff to recent.
Once again, thank you. I'm glad that you liked it.:)
Take care.
I'm always amazed by people that can play like this. About all I can do is knock out some heavily distorted heavy metal riffs one at a time for the sake of recording and piecing together a track. I've always wanted to be this good, but my attention span for learning it is severely lacking. And when I do have the focus, there are so many interruptions, I still can't focus. You know what I mean?
Anyhow, this isn't about me. This is about a beautiful acoustic piece that you have performed. I read in one of your replies to a comment below that you improvise everything. That's damned impressive.
I can't put my finger on why or how, but this almost has a bit of Latin flavor. The melancholic nature of this is touching. A very emotional piece. I'm guessing there was someone in mind while you played this. Either someone that you care deeply for, or there's a longing for them, and this is your confession from a distance.
At any rate. Beautiful piece, and thank you for sharing.
Take care
V
This is pretty damned good, man. I haven't checked out the full version yet, but it's on my to-do list. I especially enjoyed the section starting at 1:57. It holds a certain metal breakdown quality.
And on that note, a suggestion, if I may. I know you're looking to incorporate metal into it. But in the grand scheme, that goes deeper than just distorted guitars and/or fast drums. If you're looking to put emphasis on the "heavy" in heavy metal, I suggest listening to some Deathcore and really analyzing the break downs, riffs, time signatures, and mixing. Or, if you're looking more for of the "metal", take a look at something more in the direction of Metalcore, or even Post-Hardcore genres. Use them for some of their foundational elements as opposed to just surface value.
I'm sure you're already on top of it, though. Just a thought on my part.
Take care.
Aaron
Hey man, thank u! U were a big inspiration on deciding to move forward with this initially, I had some ideas but they were in my brain's version of development hell lol. The project has mutated a few times, and it's definitely still in its infancy, but some elements have definitely taken shape. I don't want to lose any more of the trap inspired elements of it, my main goal now is to continue to develop the foundational sound of everything as a whole, keeping it consistent and the themes intact, but also catering to every group member's strengths. I've managed to do that to a much higher degree than I believed I would be able to, but now I think I can take it even further. I've said this a few times, but I'll say it again - I haven't had this much fun in a long time. I do have samples labeled with tags from all 3 of the "cores" u mentioned, but honestly only some are heavy enough for me and still usable.
Danke, how are you, brother?
For some reason I thought I commented on this one, but apparently I did not.
First, that lead guitar that comes in at 3:30. Wow! That is seriously some rocking guitar, man.
I'm not sure who is on vocals, but he almost has a Ronnie VanZant quality to his voice. (Lynyrd Skynyrd).
Great song, my friend. I like the direction you ended up taking with your music. I remember back in the old days of Looperman, you had a lot more electronica influence in your work. I always really liked that too, but I really like the rock, lo-fi and chill-out you've been doing the last couple of years.
As always, I hope you're doing well.
Take care, friend.
Aaron

Oli, the rumble is perfect in my opinion. It really helps fill it out without any clutter. It makes the song much larger. The bass gives the whole thing that bottom end that it needed. Did you custom build the rumble? If so, you did a good job. The EQ'ing and the reverb are clearly present, but not overpowering, and it doesn't make the mix sound muddy.
Yeah, I think you did a great job with it!
Again, take care.
V.
This was good before, but it's way better now.
I've always liked longer songs. Too many times you'll just be really getting into it and then it's over. It's always better when you can really take your time and feel the groove long enough to make it worth it. Once you find that "zone" you don't want to leave too early, ya know? I've never understood how people can like a song, but then say it's too long.
Anyhow, did you add some rumble to the kicks? It seems to be much, much heavier on the bottom end, and much more balanced and full, as well. It seems to be complete now.
Excellent work!
Take care.
V.
Hi VD. many thanks for your input. Yes there is much more going on at the bottom end of the Kicks. I added also some bassline. Is it too much rumble? I found I need to train my ears more for low ends and may get some other monitor speakers. Cheers, Oli
I like this. It's very calm. I know you have it under "Acoustic", but which genre would you say this is? It's not really classical, it's not entirely Jazz, I wouldn't even call it contemporary. But I know it's something. It's like something you would hear in a cozy book store while sipping on a hot latte, reading some rock star's autobiography.
thank you very much for the kind and interesting comment, Aaron.
i love it when people describe the things they see or feel when listening to music!
some would probably call it third stream, which is something between jazz and classical music - or maybe neoclassical? to be honest i have no idea :)
Hey, how ya doin? This is a decent track. I do like the the middle eastern flare in here. Your mixing of the modern sounds with the more traditional was done well. I think, and this is just my own preference, I would have added some low-end underneath it all. Like a soft reese, or a sequenced bass line. Or both alternating. But, like I said, that's just my own thing. I still love it just how it is.
Good work, keep it up!
Take care.
V.
Lu, I really like this. She has an interesting voice. I gotta say though, brother, if you and Gina haven't already figured it out, let me be the one to tell you....you NEED to duet with her. The two of you bringing your own voices and styles together into one project.... Holy shit, man. That has potential to be something unique and amazing. I was really hoping you were going to come in on this one. I mean, it's great with just her, but to have you echoing her in the background in your style. It would be fuckin' golden, man. Lu, get after it!
Seriously.
Take care, man.
Aaron.
Hey aaron, thank you for cheering up. it made our day. She really got something special, like a raw diamond full of weird energy. she never recorded anything or played in bands. but my hearts stoped when listened to her for 1st. we got a great musical chemistry going and planing to record straight for 3 months. some hopes and dreams are floating and i thank you for your great comment. it gave me energy. love from a banana
This is produced very well. There's a lot happening, but it's still very minimal sounding. It's very spacious, and everything has room to breathe.
The vocals are very reminiscent of Nikkie Van Lierop. Add some heavily distorted Reese bass lines and you'd have what could easily be a Lords Of Acid song. That's a compliment. I'm assuming at least one of you is a fan of theirs.
Either way, good work, keep it up.
Take care.
V.
We will look up Nikkie Van Lierop - I dont know that name, I kinda just channeled the lyrics when I heard Oli's music - thank you for your encouragement, it means alot and has given us food for thought. Kay0s
I like what you've done with this. It's very similar to the original, but still worlds apart. Your addition of the percussion takes it to a different place. Honestly, no offense to Joni and her crew, but I like your bass guitar tones much better. The effects on your acoustic make it a little softer too. Even though you say it's a little jarring at first, I have to disagree. Your version actually seems to be more relaxed, even though there is more to it. I think with what you've done, it almost gives it a darker feel. Like something out of an old 90s indie flick.
Yeah, good work.
Take care.
V.
(1 of 2): Neo, what's happnin, brother? When I saw that you had a new track on the wall, I could hardly wait until I got home to give it a proper listen. You sir, did not disappoint!
I'm not familiar with the show. I'll have to watch it to see the connection. We just finished up season two of "From". Trippy-ass show. I like the idea of making a track based on a show.
Serum is a beast! It's about the only one I use now. Did you use it for the sub, or for the sequencer at 0:28? Or, both?
The intro zigged, then the song zagged! Overall, it almost has a feeling of flight to it. I can definitely hear your brand of latin based sound in this. It does have a nice touch of Santana in there. Santana and Satriani. It's like Satriani cut a track on Santana's rig. As always, the mix is flawless. Everything is crystal. With the multiple guitar tracks, none get in the way of the others. It's perfectly filled. There are a lot of notes being played, and none of them crowd the place up. Well done.
I figure you would like the Rings of Power, It's Tolkiens story of early Middle Earth and the introduction of the dark Lord Sauron and the creation of the rings. This Serum loop was something I did a few years back when I was dabbling more with electronic music. I was just going through some files hoping I could find something to give me a direction and this just fit the bill.
I like the Santana /Satriani reference. Two great players that I very much admire. I never made that connection during the process here but since you mentioned it I certainly can relate. Of course like you said I do a lot of Latin flavoring, its a style I enjoy. It comes out sometimes even when I'm not trying. Satriani is big on using wah, he's a wah Zen Master. I have loved the effect since first hearing Hendrix' Voodoo Chile and Machine Gun. That intro is just a bar chord that I reversed and stretched. I went corny old school!
(2 of 2) It's funny that I was the one that inspired you to jump back into your music, because after seeing all of your art work, it's inspired me to pick up the pencil (digital and "analogue"). I've been in an artistic slump for quite a while. Seeing the cool pieces you do really gives me the want to put in some quality time on a new piece of my own.
As far as music goes, I have a hefty metal tune that I'm stuck on as far as leads go. That's never been my forte, and honestly, I've been thinking about asking you if you could take a listen and see if you can come up with something fitting. Ever since "No Salvation", I've always wanted to collab on something. I just never really had anything that I felt was up to your caliber. This one just might get at least one toe over the line into that territory. Maybe. Let me know if you'd be interested.
Anyhow, it's so great to see you back with new material. I hope there are many more to come.
Take care, my friend!
Aaron
Yeah I guess you and I do have a lot in common when it comes to creativity. I know your also quite an adept photographer as well. I do appreciate you convincing me to record. I don't get near enough playing time these days. Hate to admit it but I'm also discovering the onset of some joint discomfort in a couple of fingers which has reminded me that time is creeping up on me. I had to learn it. I still have your No Salvation track. And its still just as cool as the first time I heard it! I'm hip to any kind of collab bro. It may not be quick, I sometimes don't know what day it is with all I have going on, but hell yeah, love to hear what you got. Thanks brother, its definitely fun to get back to some of this. Even though this is the first track I've posted in a while, its not entirely new and I put it together pretty quick. I'm actually working on something totally new so stay tuned.
The quality of this mix is top notch. Very clean and crystal clear.
Which reverb plugin are you using on her voice? That tail is silky smooth and warm. I like the way you played with the pitch as well.
Excellent work.
I've heard two classical pieces in the featured list in just the last week or so. This one, and a piece by Debussy that Doudei performed. In the almost 13 years that I've been on looperman, that's the most classical music I've seen pop up. I welcome it. Personally, I'm hoping to see more. More classical, and more Heavy Metal. Kind of widen the horizons back up around here like it used to be years ago.
Anyhow, this is a nice little piece. I was hoping to hear some cello or bass come in with some sostenuto to contrast and compliment the viola's staccato. Even without it, it's still an enjoyable piece.
If you still have this FLP, do you plan of working on it some more? If so, I'd love to hear what you come up with. Also, which VST are you using for your strings?
Two hard drives died and took two terabytes of my work. I had to start all over and create all over again.
I loved the tune it got a good response from people. A lot gave me advice but were taken back when I told them I can't read or write music or know music theory.
I just know what sounds good but I like classical music so I will just have a listen and create something.
I never knew people loved classical so I'm going to make another. The strings I use is Spitfire Albion one.
Really happy you like the tune a few on Reddit liked it too but they gave me a lot of advice but I'm a newbie and told them that.
They said I was really good for a newbie that didn't know how to read or write music or know music theory.
A lot thought I was telling lies. Anyway thanks for the reply and if I make one I will put it here.
Thanks again.
It's good, man. It's good. A lot of feeling in here. It's definitely got a dark edge to it, that's for sure. I like that. The production was done very well.
The intro really sets the mood. There are a lot of Trip Hop elements in here as well as Hip Hop. That sub is a killer. It commands respect.
hey up Aaron thanks for the check up, we appreciate the listen and comment, it was a good collab with Dusty he's a great artist its dark alright all us artist hide behind a mask, and the sub yeah it is top draw, thanks again, i'll check your fresh later
Honestly, I don't really think this needs any work at all, dude. I think it sounds great just as it is. However, since you were looking to do a bit of a Heavy Metal crossover, I may be able to help with that. Let me play around with it, and see what happens. I'll post an updated metal mix when I get it done. Or, would you prefer to check it out before I release it into the wild?
Overall, I really like your style. It's kind of stand-alone, (which is good), but still has traces of some great artists in there. Just in this song, I hear Joe Strummer, Soul Coughing, Eminem, Puscifer, and just a micro-dose of Tom Waits. You really have a great command over your voice, and know how to use it well.
Anyhow, for the time being, I'll get to work on adding some metal elements to this one, and see if it's anything you like.
Take care, Mr. Banana.
Aaron (The more metal one)
The intro does a good job of setting the overall tone. I really like the female hum. Overall, it has a middle eastern vibe, and it's very cinematic.
It reminds me of some old Flux Pavilion. Actually, the whole track has a Datsik/Flux Pavilion vibe. The cinematic elements even kind of remind me of Excision.
One thing I could never get the hang of when creating dubstep was the arrangement. The ability to place multiple synths in one phrase and have it come out sounding organic. You've done a nice job with that.
I like the fact that your drops aren't "kick you in the teeth"drops. I mean, I do like those, but for this track, they aren't necessary. Your restraint is impressive.
The mix is done nicely as well. It's spacious, clear, the stereo and panning are done well. Nothing is crowding anything. Actually, from 3:32 to 4:00 is a perfect example of how spacing and panning should be done in this genre.
Good work. Keep it up.
Take care.

They said I was really good for a newbie that didn't know how to read or write music or know music theory.
A lot thought I was telling lies. Anyway thanks for the reply and if I make one I will put it here.
Thanks again.

The intro really sets the mood. There are a lot of Trip Hop elements in here as well as Hip Hop. That sub is a killer. It commands respect.
Great track, Dime. Keep it up.
Take care.

Banana.

Good work. Keep it up.
Take care.
