Im listening to your track for the third time. Very distinctive rock Id describe it more as Industrial Rock. Minimal, yet still quite alive sonically. Its a genre thats genuinely interesting both compositionally and from a mixing perspective, considering how many elements usually coexist in this kind of music.
That said, the low frequencies seem to have slipped a bit out of control. Probably because of the nature of the genre itself, the bass sounds somewhat distorted and muddy. Without pretending to be an expert, I think it would help if you cleaned it up a little and pushed it more to the center/front, since its clearly one of the dominant elements of the track. If you do that, Im pretty sure the song will sound excellent.
Good effort, my friend.
Where can I listen to the rest of the album? Maybe you could also upload the other tracks here gradually?
Oh, that's the most detailed and constructive comment I've ever received
Yes, I originally wanted to make a minimalistic track without a lot of sounds, purely guitar and drum
but with the basses, yes, they really feel like soap, I'll probably leave it as it is, and even more so, I've already sent them to all platforms via destributer and there I didn't see a button to replace the track :/
Thanks for the advice bro
And I'll probably upload a couple more tracks from the album here today, yes
It may have taken some time, but it was worth it. A very powerful track with an amazing vocal performance. As I mentioned in my previous message, your distinctive personal style is very interesting. The production here is good as well.
Im not claiming to be an expert, but I would personally bring the vocals even more forward, since they are the main element of the song. I would keep the pads further back to open up space for the drums and guitarsthis way the track could really lift and expand.
Please dont take this as a professional critique; its just my experience helping me sense when something has strong potentialand this definitely does.
With appreciation,
Chris (LINEAR FADE Band)
What a great track. Really excellent work. It feels very balanced. To my ears, everything sounds just right. Its a beautiful song, with lovely vocals and great music. Congratulations, my friend Juan.
You're the one to blame for the improved mix and mastering, hahaha, I would have left it as it was, hahaha.
I think I've managed to achieve some of what you were suggesting, opening up the sounds a bit more with the mix and, of course, mastering, which I didn't know how to do. My eyes hurt from watching tutorials to learn.
Since I think you also use Reaper, if you ever want to tinker with it, modify something, or add your own voice so it's not AI, I'll send you the complete project, with all the free VSTs I used.
Cheers and thanks for your advice, Juan Carlos.
P.S.
I'm really looking forward to the Urban Stories album release.
Rita, what a voice! A wonderful song. With a voice like yours, everything becomes beautiful no matter what! I honestly dont have the words to express my admiration for your fantastic voice and for the song itself. And your lyrics on this track are unique as well.
I listen to your tracks regularly, and you always impress me. Warm greetings from Italy and the LINEAR FADE Band.
This is a lovely way to start the day.
Thank you for your beautiful compliment.
It is difficult among the real singers here on LM with perfect voices and high notes.
With my severe asthma, I can't do that.
So I am always happy when someone likes my voice and my songs.
Have a nice day
Beautiful track. I dont know how the original version sounded, but it definitely had the potential to become a wonderful songand thats exactly what happened. Emmanuella is amazing. Everything feels balanced: the instruments, the vocals, the atmosphere. Well done to all of you!
Thanks man, the original did not sound like this as im not experienced enough to understand highs and lows yet but i will eventually.
Manuela and true sister done an incredible job and it just shows you with a bit of experience the right folk and equipment beautiful music can prevail.
thanks for the listen and comment they are much appreciated just away to check out your latest one :)
Yes, its very enjoyable. It truly feels like a song that takes you back yearseven decades. Amazing vocals, a good mix, and a cheerful, danceable track. Well done! You dressed the vocals beautifully and used the effects with great restraint and taste. Chris
Thank you, Chris! Really appreciate that....I wanted the track to carry that timeless, cheerful energy, so hearing it feels like it takes you back is the best compliment. Glad the vocals and mix came across with taste and restraint, that balance was important to me. Knowing its danceable and enjoyable makes all the effort worthwhile!
Enough respect!!
Sayam, speaking from a producers perspective, Im not too focused on the video right now. What stands out is that, although this is a nice folk-inspired track with trap and trance elements, the sound still needs significant improvement. The mix feels overcrowdedtheres too much happening at once, and each element needs its own space.
Mixing is a complex process, but its the foundation of the entire track. Some of the vocals need tuning, and a few instruments could be better aligned with the key. More importantly, the mix needs balance and clarity. This isnt about working longerits about working with a clear mind and intention. You have to build the track like a recipe, giving each element exactly what it needsno more, no less.
From a production standpoint, Id bring the vocals forward without hesitation, and also push the drums more upfront to give the track energy. Keep pads, synths, and keyboards further back, but still present and purposeful. The bass should sit in the center and properly fill the low end. Then shape the space carefully using reverb, stereo width, panning, and delayalways with subtlety.
Thats how the track will gain identity, character, proper dynamics, and the brightness it needs. As for the videosure, go for it. Make something great and let us see it.
Sure bro, thanks again for the detailed feedback. I will make the changes you have mentioned and upload again with more focus on mixing and mastering. I love your tracks btw.
Sayam, really nice mixing elements here. There are quite complex things going on, which is very impressive. It might be a bit more than I personally prefer, but overall the result is very good. The different guitar riffs are especially interesting.
However, I think youve over-compressed the track. Important elements like the guitars are sitting too far backtry bringing them forward. The drums feel a bit flat and could use more character and life. Since theres no clear lead vocal, let the vocals blend more naturally within the instruments, and give the mix more space so everything can sit properly and breathe with better balance.
If you move on to mastering, go for more surgical adjustments with EQ and compression. Definitely run it through some saturation, and finally use a limiterbut be careful not to overdo it. In FL Studio, you have exactly the plugins you need for a great production. Youll end up with a very different track from what it is now.
Best regards,
Chris -(LINEAR FADE PROJECT)
Thank you so much for the detailed feedback LINEARFADE! I will do these changes and upload again for sure. I will focus more on mixing and mastering as you have mentioned.
Wow! Incredible track. Always unique, just like many of your works the blend of all the elements is outstanding. The vocals, are amazing; they fit the piece as if they were made for it. Great job, my friend a truly impressive result!
thanks for checking some of my back pieces, i was extremely fortunate to have built a good friendship with Manuela, and it gave me access to work directly with her and her studio and her being a pro vocalist with 20 years in the business, the help she has provided me with my voice has been valuable.
you mention in your reply to me your music may seem a little outdated to some, dont ever think like that my friend, music just becomes refined thats all, i dont comment on any track if i dont like it, i would n't offend for the sake, either, i tend to comment if i believe a track is worth it, and your work has been worth it, hence my comments and positives, another plus in our community bro, we inspire each other as we all grow
YES!!!! NOW I CAN SAY THAT YOUVE MADE AN AMAZING TRACK! The timing is almost perfect. Its a shame I cant send a photo! We cant stop dancing here in the studio. Stay well, my friend! Incredible rhythm and an awesome track!
Haha, I appreciate that energy! Knowing youre dancing in the studio makes all the late-night tweaks worth it. I did what I could in the moment and tried to keep the vocals realistic and soulful instead of stretching them too far, so the vibe stays authentic.
Grateful for your first feedback too, because that pushed me to revise and polish the timing. Right now the tracks solid enough to work as a demo, and seeing it get people moving is the best proof. Enough respect, my friend and careful, I dont want to be responsible for a funk-related injury report at your studio...haha!!
Hello Chris, my friend I appreciate the listen and comments....Im just a guy who loves music of all kinds.....not a true player like so many others but I play out my feelings on the guitar the best that I can and hope it comes out that way.....there are some excellent musicians on LM like your players that definitely show great skills and its a pleasure listening to them, I look forward to more of your incredible work as well....again thank you friend.
So, youre really strong in the kind of music you make. This is another fantastic track, with an amazing groove, so many layers of instruments, and an incredibly strong bass linehonestly, what can I say?
You could easily send this to the radio and have it played everywhere. Regards, Chris
Good evening. The bass line is very nice, and the vocals are really good. Overall, its a very nice track with solid production.
Where I might be mistaken is the following: from 0:18 to 0:30, and occasionally a bit later as well, it feels like theres a slight timing misalignment in the tempo and beats between the vocals, bass, and drums.
I could be wrong, but Im listening in a studio environment and generally trust what Im hearing.
Thats the only note I have, if it actually applies. Otherwise, the track is very enjoyable and definitely gives you the urge to dance when you hear it.
Hey Chris, I appreciate you taking the time to listen and share your honest feedback. I agree that some parts have timing issues, and I considered chopping the vocals and rearranging the song, but then I thought it might just be the singers unconventional style. I wasnt sure if it was intentional or if it needed realignment, so I went with the lazy option. Now that youve pointed it out, I guess I wasnt imagining things, and I might work on a revised version to share.
Thanks again, man.
Good morning. Your track is amazing. The vocals, the performance, the productioneverything is perfect! Very cinematic, truly an impressive production. Congratulations. Chris
It feels cinematic, like a soundtrack from a film. It evokes a range of emotions in me, from melancholy to anticipation. The slightly tango-like rhythm makes it more interesting and adds a nostalgic touch to the composition. The sound is good, although I think the strings are a bit compressed. Id especially prefer them to be softer and not so forward in the mix. Id give more body to the low strings in the background, along with the piano, which is a bit faint. Id also push back the viola or celloI cant quite tell which. The violin definitely needs some EQ adjustment and should sit just slightly in front of the others. Thats it from a technical standpoint. The composition and the overall concept are really nice Regards, Chris
Hi Chris,
Thanks for your comment and listen they are much appreciated i will try and implement the changes you have suggested to the best of my ability which at the moment is far from a finished article :)
Very serious production. Amazing mix and, from what I can hear, a very well-balanced master. The vocals are great and the effects are beautifully done and spot-on. Nothing feels unnecessary, my friend Dan. Wonderful track! Regards, Chris
Good morning! Heres your text translated into natural English:
Good evening. A very optimistic piecehappy and beautiful. I really like the voice. I think it could be improved in terms of sound quality. Well done, very good. Ciao, Chris
Look, Ben, because I dont really listen to this particular genre of music, Im probably not the most suitable person to give a fully accurate opinion. However, its a track with a distinctive style. I really like the vocals and the vocal effects you usedthe groove is great, the bass is very solid, and the drums are tight and well put together. The changes and effects give the track a strong mood, which I enjoyed a lot. Overall, the production is very good. The sound quality is good as wellmaybe its even ideal for this genre, Im not entirely sure. Regards, Chris.
What software do you use for mixing and mastering?
Your sound is really interesting, Im curious about your workflow. That way I can help you improve your sound a bit more, without you having to get overwhelmed trying to figure everything out on your own.
Saluti, Chris
I use Reaper. I create each track with the different instruments and adjust their volumes as I go. In this case, for example, the drums have no effects. What I did was create two identical percussion tracks with different sounds for kick, hi-hat, snare, etc. - very similar but distinct - and I tilted one track more towards the right channel and the other towards the left. This way, I had a more open percussion sound.
The vocals are completely untouched, just as the AI generated them with a slight reverb.
And the rest of the tracks - bass, violins, synths, etc. - only have their volume and panning adjusted, nothing else. Since using equalizers, reverb, delay, etc. was too complex for me, I found a VST called "Neutron 5 Elements by Izotope" which seemed simpler. By simply indicating the type of instrument playing on the track, it presets some parameters, making it easy to open up the stereo effect, apply dynamics, and so on. But I've realized that's not the solution. If I want it to sound good, I have to use specific effects for each element. This track hasn't been mastered at all. When it sounded good to me, I just rendered it to WAV and MP3, and that was it.
To learn how to master, I've downloaded Limited Z as a limiter, Youlean Loudness Meter to adjust the LUFS, and I'm undecided between two spectrum analyzers (Spectrum Analyzer and FreqAnalyst by Blue Cat). I'm also planning to use TDR Nova for equalization.
Seriously, don't waste your time with me. If I can't understand things by watching YouTube videos, I'm certainly not going to understand them this way, haha. Just your intention alone makes me feel like I'm on cloud nine, that artists like you dedicate your time to amateurs like me.
Thank you so much, Chris, really. I'll learn little by little. Besides, I take care of many very old animals (between 10 and 15 years old) that take up almost all my time. Each day I have a little time to see what's been uploaded here (I've become addicted to listening to all of you) and then watch YouTube videos to learn.
