That guitar melody is great. I don't think i've heard guitar used in an electro tune before so hats off to that. Dig the wobbly bassline and the vibe of the track. It's a nice slow burner and you've picked some ace sounds for the layering, it really kicks off around the four minute mark.
Definitely would have downloaded this if the option was available.
FR
Really sweet melody with great haunting pads. Then after the vocal kicks in it takes on a whole new twist. This really is great. I noticed a tiny bit of distortion on the vocal but other than that this track is superb.
FR
This is a great groove you've got going on here. I'm not familiar with the original but i like what you've done. Plenty of atmosphere and cool efx. Nice pounding beat and cool synths as well.
This one gets the thumbs up from me!
FR
I didn't think i'd still be listening to Christmas records in January but this is very good. Your friend has a very good voice. Is that you doing the other bit? It's all very well mixed down and produced beautifully.
You've got talent!!
FR
This is really nice. You've nailed those melodies and there's plenty going on to keep it interesting. Love the way it dives in and out in all the right places.
What software are you using? You got some nice sounds there.
FR
Alright!! Nomads got the dark vibe!! This is excellent. I love heavy stuff so less than a minute in and i'm already loving it. I can hear the valvedriver influence in this as well as your own unique style. Love the harmonics on that bass synth (if it is a synth??)
Your music goes off in so many different directions and flows effortlessly from part to part. I don't know how you come up with all these ideas but you've really hit the ball out of the park with this one!! It's everything!! Dark, funky, heavy and even chilled in places.
Flawless as always.
FR
Dark greetings from deep inside the Valveland borders.
I hope this FreeRadical was Radically Brutalised/Brutally Radicalised by this beast of a track. In a musical terror training camp somewhere in the Afghan mountains.
Glad you thought it had everything. It had more as there was a funky guitar section in the choir chillout middle that I removed. It was cool when I listened back to it on its own as a loop but it didn't fit the flow of the track so it had to go.
For all the mass of stuff I cram in my tracks, I do actually leave quite a few things out. The flow is way more important than adding more and more just because I can. Hey, I'd never finish anything if I didn't draw the line somewhere!
I do like to do some heavier, darker stuff when I can get it to sit right though chill groove is more my natural musical home. No surprise I got some of that in too. I think I probably do in every track. Not matter how heavy shit gets, there's always room for some chill. Sometimes just so you can build back up to more face melting stuff.
I'm not sure which bit you mean by "harmonic bass" as there's a lot of bass work in this.
Maybe the slap bass note at 1:39? Or the bass screech at 0:09 or the undistorted version at 1:25.?
"you've really hit the ball out of the park with this one!!"
Thanks. I like to think I valvedrove it right out of the volcano.
"flows effortlessly from part to part."
Only through loads of hard work (lots of effort and head scratching) and it works better in some tracks than others.
"don't know how you come up with all these ideas"
I do and I don't. Guess I gotta run out sometime, right? But I've also got to hold some stuff back for music making when I'm an old man. Better take up some new instruments before then. Maybe newly invented ones.
Always think your stuff is too good to just be floating around on free internet sites and this is no exception. I don't know the original but this is nothing short of bloody brilliant.
Good luck with the competition.
FR
Nice piece but i couldn't view the picture for some reason. I just kept getting "page not found" ah well like i say the piece was nice. Kind of reminded me of something from Flash Gordon.
Short but sweet.
FR
yea. my site is changing hosts and it is down right now. sorry about that. funny you should say that about Flash Gordon. Someone at work mentioned Dr. Who. thanks for the review. appreciate it.
Love the opening chords. That beat is pretty heavy and a little bit distorted but you may have done that on purpose. Love the combo of strings and piano. It all sounds pretty BIG. If you could find an acapella to fit over the track it would really put the icing on the cake.
FR
Simple but effective. I love the sounds you've used. It's kind of Deadmau5 vs Jimmy van m. A lot of tracks i play have me turning the volume down but this one says "crank me up" Absolutely love it and i'm going to download it so i can hear it again.
Cheers for that!
FR
I can hear what you're saying with that Jimmy van and deadmau5 style. Most of my progressive house tracks usually combines artist styles, such as the ones you're pointing out, and turns it into it's own style. So good ear on that one!
Thanks for taking the time to review and comment, happy you enjoyed this one!
Whenever i hear your stuff i always think it's heaps better than the throw away crap that i put together and this track is no exception. Everything sounds smooth as silk and i'm digging those ethnic sting sounds and floaty pads. I'm thinking you and Nomad should do a collab as i think your styles would work well together.
Wow! A bonus track as well or is it just the second part of track one? Well whatever, it sounds slick and tripped out. There's plenty of sunshine in your music which is great because there aint a lot of sunshine round these parts at the moment. You play really well and it's always a pleasure to drop by and listen to your compositions.
Part three now and the beats got a bit heavier with some ace psychadelic sounds going on in the background. I'm wondering how you managed to make such a long track without losing quality. Audacity normally fills me up by the eleven minute mark.
Final track now and again a sweet combo of percussion and piano. I've never heard you do a bad track and i don't think i ever will.
Too good!
FR
You might have made this about a place in winter but i'm getting a real summer time vibe off this. It's clean sounding, it's cool and everything about it oozes class.
Love the synth, love the guitar and like the samples as well.
I don't normally go for chill out but this is so well done i'm going to just have to hit that download button so i can hear it again later.
Brilliant!
FR
Thank you so much for your compliments, keeps me going. And I just love it that you had the courage to cross the chill out line :-). I hope you will ejoy the track for a while.
This is pretty unique. To begin with I thought it sounded a bit like a retro video game then it went into some trippy percussion and some vocoded samples. The production is clean and there's lots of original ideas going on here as well as lots of retro sounding instruments as well.
This was fun to listen to.
FR
Thanks. I've been listening to Kraftwerk's "Trans Europ Express" lately and I was wondering how the contemporary high speed train version would sound. The sounds (and parts of the basic rhythm) also contain bits that sound like Jean Michel Jarre, so it's a mix of the french and the german "trains" - TGV and ICE. The modulator of the vocoded voice is generated by a text-2-speech software.
This is sounding really good Mark (even though my headphones are now only working on the left hand side PAH!!!) I can't pick out your "feeble" keyboard skills from the mix. Everything sounds bang on to me and you've created the exact atmosphere you said you were trying to achieve so i'd say jobs a goodun!!!
Love the big drum build towards the end of the track.
Splendid!
FR
Thank you, thank goodness for your dodgy headphones!! glad it the spot though, I had wanted to do a cinematic style track for a while so thought I would have a go, its good to be creating again after a long spell of not producing much.
thanks again and take care,
Mark
Thought i'd better jump on this since I started the loop challenge and never finished mine. This is sounding really cool, it's got a dubby kind of feel to it with lots of cool efx and inserts. The guitar sounds really good as does all the percussion and crazy noises. It doesn't sound like loops really either so congratulations on finishing and coming up with something good.
FR
Hey friend, thank you for the response to this track! Makes me happy that you like what you hear! Once I get my parts from Thailand or wherever, I'll be going ahead on permanently affixing and tuning the pickups, as they are just temporary for now. Thinking I'll be able to get a cleaner more well defined sound that way. Glad that you like the sound so far though. Really there is only one loop other than the ones given to me by M8TN, but I agree that the loops were mangled enough to not sound like loops. Appreciate the feedback!
This is well old school. You've got some really nice melodies running through the track but it's the beat pattern for me which makes it sound retro. Sounds a bit like the old 909 kit which was big in the 90's.
This was fun to listen to.
FR
Sounds a bit like retro 80's synth pop and it's really cool. The big snare and the bassline are a little like Rockwell as Crucethus already pointed out.
Nice to hear something a little different.
FR
Yeah, this sounds cool, like the old style hardcore. Like the way it picks up, then it drops, then it goes a bit chip tune for a while before back in with the hardcore sounds again. There's loads going on to keep it interesting and it's got a real sinister vibe to it.
Great track.
FR
This is really well produced. You layered that vocal perfectly and there's plenty of cool sounding synths going on. You've made farisha sound great.
Well done!!
FR
This sounds really professional. Well written lyrics, nice track and mixed down really well. Great atmosphere, cool efx and great all round vibe.
Really enjoyed listening to this piece.
FR
Great track but the levels are a bit overpowering. I like the arrangement and the choice of sounds. It's a good track but it would be better if everything wasn't totally maxed out. I enjoyed it all the same. Reminds me a little of the Chemical brothers which is a good thing.
Well done.
FR
There's some good ideas going on here. Like what you've done with the vocals and the effects. I'd like to hear a bit more going on in the drum section. Perhaps add some more hats or something to jack it up a bit.
Other than that I found this enjoyable.
FR
Thank you for listening close and having some thoughts for potential improvements. I was thinking the drums may be too loud in places and pull them back.

I know what you mean about the vocal distortion.
The original pella actually came with loads of reverb applied to it, so I was stuck with that level.
Although I do use a lot reverb myself anyway.
This is the first track I've produced using a pella from Looperman.
