There are some serious key issues here. The vocals don't match the melody and the rhythm. Maybe it would have sounded better if you wouldn't have thrown the vocals in there.
SO I hit play and jumped about middle way through thew song...heard the vocals and hit replay and replay and replay.
WOW! Very vintage sound! That organ was pure ear candy!
Excellent song and a very good mix!
The only thing that bothered me was the occasional "S" sound on the reverb which was kinda harsh on my ears. Add a de-esser or just dampen the response of the reverb and you have a classic here.
Ohh man I said I won't listen to dubstep again but here I am again.
The first thing I've noticed was the clustered feel of the track, mainly because of the lack of high-end. I'd suggest you adjust a bit that high end on relevant instruments and you'll be amazed at how good and punchy the result will be.
The kick could also benefit from some punch and that bass would sound awesome if it would be a bit wider to fill the stereo field, now that would give you a mind blowing experience.
Still I gotta say I loved the track and it's going into my favs. I think dubstep has gotten a bit generic at the moment and commercial but this definitely stepped outside that line.
Ah Symphonic rock or better said symphonic metal are bands like Nightwish, Within Temptation and such.
And about those pitch issues as far as I can see the problem lies in the fact that you don't hit the note instantly and rather hit a sharp or flat and then rapidly correct it, it is very subtle although I make it sound so obvious.
As I said in my earlier review you have a very good tone and definitely keep working on your voice.
Oh. I will check them out, thank you so much for your feedback.
I heard pitch issues as well.. I had hoped no one would notice. ;) haha. No but really, I am currently re-doing the vocals. I can hear it, it's not at all subtle to me. You're totally right.
Check out The Flight and tell me if my voice is okay there, I also got a new mic which helps. :) Thank you!
Well with the risk of sounding harsh...why didn't you fix those pitch issues? I don't like those slides at all.
Besides technical issues I think you have an absolutely great voice and I'd actually suggest you'd try symphonic rock tracks, you've got a bit of Tarja Turunen's tone in your voice and I really think it would work out perfectly.
My advice...get a good mic and sing to the fullest of your potential cause you've got plenty of it.
I didn't fix the pitch issues because I just got the mic and was figuring it out.... but I wasn't patient enough to wait till I figured it out I had just to just tape it! Yea, I know, my voice kinda has huge pitch issues... but i'm actually in the process of re-taping it now!
Thank you for the compliments, but seriously I really appreciate the constructive criticism, because I really need to hear it to know what to improve! :)
I have a yeti blue big guy, I just didn't use it properly.
I've never heard of symphonic rock... unless I have and I didn't know it! Any recommendations to get an idea of what it is?
Ohh the sounds in the intro are absolutely Hollywood. There is some phasing going on with the acoustic guitar and the same guitar sounds a bit thin.
Anyways beside that small detail...love the bass...the fretless has it's persona sometimes and it works here perfectly. I like the sound of that snare, almost like a Slingerland Classic.
Well I think the song describes perfectly freedom. I don't know why but for some reason that's where my mind want's to go now maybe because of the up-tempo sound.
Man you have the best ears on the loop!..I went back into my DAW and guess what..one of my mastering plugins was accidentally turned off(acoustic compressor) on the acoustic guitar track!...damn,thanks man!....apart from saving my bacon, thanks for the very cool review mate..YOU ROCK!...cheers Dave :)
Hahaha! Yeah! Man the vocals remind me of a smoother Damien Marley.
I've always liked your stuff. Very well arranged and performed. If I remember correctly I even saw a video from you on youtube...might be wrong so don't take my word for it.
Anyways I didn't quite like the low end of the beat as that bass was kinda taking away some of the punch. That kick could have been a bit more punchy to drive it more.
Still an A+ effort so props for that. And man the vocals are absolutely amazing. Love the accent.
I was telling Elaine in a review about how playful I hear Funk, well obviously that is very emphasized here by the synth in the back however the bass takes it on a darker side and sets the groove and kinda makes you move.
Really like the arrangement, maybe a change in the drums would have made a bit of difference on that synth solo, something a bit more aggressive and dirty.
Takes my mind to same track I kept hearing on the radio but I can't remember the exact title.....
hey ... thx Mahloo!!!
maybe you're right about the solo part, and I'm not sure if the sound for the solo could be a better one ...
but thx a lot for taking the time to listen!!!
well appreciated ...
Yeah you are right the bass is to low listening back through some old monitors. It's low even on the main speakers...i think a different sound would have worked better for the bass...something a bit more around the midrange or low-mids
I really liked the dark breakdown although I'm not a big fan of glitch or DnB this could easily go in a movie. Very NIN style.
thanx for taking the time brother.. I cut the bass with a filter cutting off everything above 60hz and EQed it in the same way... I think it is just a matter of re-EQing as I do like the depth of the bass...
it can be quite deceptive though because I have a sub (which is cranked )I'm vibrating when I listen..cheers for the feedback brother..
Nice! Wasn't expecting it! Impressive flow and a very good song arrangement!
The song however could benefit from a better mix. The low end is boomy and boxy and the kick gets lost in there, it's also very thin. You could pan some sounds in there or widen them to give the track a bit more dimension. The vocals could be a bit more controlled during the verses.
Overall the song it's definitely going into my favs love the dark sound and the flow.
No no no! Not Evanescence but Santiagosky! You've got your own sound! I think you should stick to the genre...you've got a good chance of making a breakthrough!
The track is nicely arranged and professionally performed!
Why is it that every time I try to come around your song pang a bunch of bodyguards throw me around like a used T-Shirt...ahh you're a Star..that's why.
Epic performance! Your voice is fabulous and one can tell you know what you are doing.
I do have a couple of suggestions however. The backing vocals could be a bit wider to create a bit of space. The lead vocal has a bit to much body (250-400Hz area) and it makes it sound a bit raw.
However this is def going in the hall of fame. Hats of in front of both of you. Great effort.
Now this song is one of my all time favs. I gotta admit this version makes the original sound as the cover. A fabulous effort no actually more than fabulous and I'm gonna stop commenting now as my vocabulary does not have such high praise words in it and I might make it sound as it ain't as big and awesome as it really is.
Instant fav and going straight to the Hall Of Fame.
Freakin' cool sample! How do you guys find these?....Lol...
The rhythm is so good..oohhh come on this is outrageous...I paid for at least 4 minutes of this thing!....yeah back to subject...love the drums and the vibe going on...you need rappers....and not the wannabe the next big shot type of rappers but rappers with a message....
oohh damn it stopped again......I just raped that play button....and I had to FAV it!
Amazing effort! The sound is fabulous! I would have panned a bit the electric guitar to leave that middle part for the singer.
Smooth work once again on the drums. I felt the drums are a bit to buried in the mix and maybe a bit to much reverb on them but it might be a personal preference, anyways ion my opinion they lose a bit of punch and clarity with that reverb on it.
Still had to fav this track. Very impressive effort.
Yeah, I did a lot of reverb on drums on purpose, because in original there is no drumming, and I try to do some "drama", and to make the skin bristled...I think I did it ....:p
MMM...now this is something! Smooth cymbal work...I like that. Nice sound on the snare....kinda sounds like a Slingerland going through a Trident A-Range... but it's probably something else.
I really like the ride and cymbal work...fabulous effort. And that voice is freakin' amazing.
This one is heading into the Favorite category! Thanks for sharing!
Ohh yeah now this can easily drift into cinematic. In my opinion it's a bit dry for such a track, and I think that a touch of reverb would help glue the things together.
Very very cool tho, there is a lurking emotional charge in there and I like how the whole track revolves around that feeling...letting out bits of hope here and there.....quite impressive.
As I've said it could easily go in a movie without any problems.
Fabulous effort. Faved!
