Thanks for the heads up...yeah I ran the track through sound forge & it's topping out at 0.0...I'm working on getting it down to -0.4 which I think is industry standard. So what's up with "Imma checkin you out now"? Do you have a label or something? get back to me.Josh
Closer to dubstep in a Burial kinda way yes? Ever listened to Slaughter Mob or babylon System? White Boi? I think this track has some trance dub elements to it that you could really play on! pretty nice actually.
Think this might be better placed in electronica. There's very little dubbing in this tune IMO. You could push it towards dubstep maybe, but it's gotta along way to reach dub skank.
That being said, I do happen to like your strings and synth lines. It's a pretty decent riddim. My tips would be, slow it down. effect the drums so as to give them BIG space. verbs on the snares, maybe some slight doubling delay on the hihats etc. It's a real straight forward hip hop style beat, but if you could play with the tempo and effects on the individual drums, it could skank.
Also look for a place in the sequence where you could add a skank piano plink or a guitar chord in a reggae style. Think upbeat stabs with long echoing delays. I say go forward on this track, more space in between and bigger effects! werd em up!
I could offer up some ideas as for what do do to those sounds to phattn everything up sum. Your arrangement is dope, but now we need it to get MASSIVE!
Wow DV you made that into something pretty fantastic. A real nice tune to take a journey with. This collab idea I feel could lead to a lot more GOA trance. You say the word next time you want to get out there again,
Thanks Jah, and since you know what my original pads sound like you really know how much stuff I hadta do to make 'em sound worth a darn.
And I agree, I'm thinking we could take the lead into trying to encourage people to make more different kinds of music on here. Not just with Goa, but with a variety of genres.
In fact, check out my latest collab challenge on here (about indo-chinese grooves). I want it all, baby, haha.
Oh, and be on the look out with this song, coz I honestly wanna go back & mix it more before this weekend.
As for collabin, will def letcha know. Later on!
Shit man! When that 2nd drop hit me I bout pooped! This is bad ass all the way. Loved the overall funk feel you kept in synch even though it's faster than a typical dubstep beat. That's pretty tough. Nice wobble indeed.
yeah i thought bout that, more ov a breakbeat wobbler than dubstep init, and nice one brutha, u dunno wot that meanz comming from the master ov dub himself...thanx jahknow
Much better mixing this time. Effects were used pretty well so far.
Here's my next tip to help take this to another level. That'd be to seperate the drums out on separate tracks, then start sdding in different effects to each drum, ie. a flanger on that tom/bongo sound or a filter to add some shuffles to the his. cutoff pass filter.... phaser or simply delay.
Great! thanks for the advice Jah. Your reviews have really helped me with the learning curve here. ill let ya know when ive got another update to see what you think.
Ok now! Tips for them variations from the Jah Know selektah.
Good good 4x4 , but to cross it up some try and do this, take 4 bar measures, split the bass synth into 4 distinct variations (1 w/ cutoff set low, 1 set high, 1 w/ extra saw, 1 w/ -1 octave lower) Not divide each of those sounds 4 ways across that 16 bar bassline! man you did do a pretty nice job on it. I'm halfway tempted to help you lay a few pads and pluck synths lines init.
Nice job m8! Let's collab on some Bassline sometime...
Yeah, I kinda realized this when I tried it out in my girls car ... No decent speakers hooked up inside but I'll rework it at some point ( my PC kinda crashed the other night so I'm using my other PC that I run a Linux OS on ) ... Thanks for the heads up though. J DOT ~ 2006
You really gotta love raw music. I happen to love the ultimate mistakes and blunders. They will ultimately be what people want after they've listened to so many compressed and rinsed out over produced hip hop. :D
Jah KNow can totally dig this. Here's my tip for us Bassline lovers. Let's not sample this shit no mo! There's so much reworked UK bassline out there it's time for us to blow something up on our own!
You got a great feel init, but lemme help you out here and again. Screw them gun sounds - - dun dun in 2009. Your bass is killin it, but I wanna here your sounds now, not a sample CD. Drumline is tite! Could go up another 10-15 bpm in my opinion, but whatev.
I lied this track, but man I wanna hear more. The mastering levels need some work init too, but overall a pretty sweet go so far. You want tips on programming your own synths for UK bassline just let Jah Know know.
Sux when 5 people have downloaded your new tune but nobody saus anything huh? Wel lman Imma gonna cuz that tune was done uo real well. Good simple mini-house feel with good sound selection.
Only thing I might change would be the lead bass synth that peeks in towards the end.
Good all over the place feeling init. Kinda skankin along the vocals. Here's my tip for you... tear this track apart now and dub it out. You have used interesting sample loops, but try and give them some room to move more. I love the individual sounds, but I feel they'd have more impact if they were played individually in a dub style. Nice moving!
I'm thinkign dirty thoughts bout now. Gritty nasty soiled thoughts... and it's all cuz you! :D
I'd say this has awesome potential for a dark club tune. A bit of mix in the drums to crunch em up a lil. The guitar kinda competes with em right now, I think there are some filtering things you could do now to make this 1 screeeam!
Good usage mate! That there kicks you in the buttom! You got the beat down the bass is dun up right for this track fo sho.
Now, here'd be my tip for joo, just to drive this inna diff direction just a lil. Try using a diff sound for your pad synth, maybe something a bit more stabby and less stringy? The long release pad seems kind too trancey for this pumping beat? If that makes sense. The progression is tops and the vocal sample is tite. Extend the whole piece 2-3x put inna a 2nd drop and go back to look at that envelope filter on the bass, see if you can't dial in a bigger wop wop on the hits!
Aight Chud, where you going here? HA you taking me to Some east european polksa step dank rave!? LOL
This was another good weird use of some 'almost' ethnic sounding sequences along with a strung out organ step. Kinda felt like I was watching a crazy circus act in a tiny big top tent.
I wasnt quite sure where i was going with this one but its rather catchy and i do like it alot! I dont know if its that ethnic, lol, i cant quite see that myself :P But a circus, yes i get that - Now you say it actually its probably a more apropriate subject than the church one! lol
