Hello Glenn,
Your love for music shines through in this recording. A truly beautiful jazz improvisationit instantly takes me on a nighttime taxi ride through Harlem. I can see the clubs before my eyes and hear the sounds of jazz and blues bands filling the streets.

Your guitar playing is truly unique. Theres something almost devilish about the way you make the guitar tell a storywith your playing, your fingerwork, and your grip technique. What I hear is pure feeling.
Its a beautifully soft and understated song, yet it commands full attention. Great workor better yet, great playing!
Best wishes, Manuela

Hello Aaron, I've been reading your conversation with Steve, among others. So I thought I'd stop by again and launch my own song into the spotlight *smile.

No! I also miss the days when we had high-quality, factual, yet humorous discussions here. You're rightthere are only a few left who truly understand the art of conversation. Back in the day, we really helped each other out, asked questions, and received meaningful answers. That was the essence of it!

I can understand why some people find joy in getting their songs clicked as often as possible. Of course, I'm happy when my song is heard, too. But if we're being honest with each other, those "click numbers" dont actually mean much. Statistically, the average listening time is just about 12 seconds before people jump to the next track.

That's why conversations like the ones I have with youand with a few (unfortunately, very few) other musicians heremean so much to me!

Well, I'll disappear again for now, since my song is back at the top of the list *smile.

Stay safe and well, Manuela

I had the same experience as many others herewhen I first heard this amazing song, a vocal melody instantly came to mind. On the other hand, Aaron (V) has a point as well. I dont mean to say that vocals would interfere with the music, but allowing yourself to be carried solely by the music, letting it resonate in your mind without being distracted by lyrics, is an incredible experienceespecially with this masterpiece of yours!

And I think that the fact that this track immediately inspires an additional melody in one's mind from the very beginning is proof of your outstanding talent. This song is not just an auditory experience; it truly engages the musical senses of a listener like me!

Wonderful work! Best regards, Manuela

on Berlin 1935 by EricMilligan
Hello Eric, What a fantastic piece of work youre presenting to us! I think its definitely worth watching this film, which is excellently cast with Michael Kalkbrenner. The story it tellsabout the rise and fall, drug use, PMA, ecstasy, failed relationships of a fictional Berlin producer and DJ, his breakdown leading to psychiatric hospitalization, and his attempt to get his life back on track after his releaseis truly phenomenal.

Your song fits the film perfectly. Youve produced it brilliantlyan outstanding achievement!

I broadly share your thoughts on the current global events and their comparison to 1935. I am also afraid of these unfolding developments. It has never been good for the world when powerful propagandists have believed they could control it. This has always led to worldwide sufferingnot just in 1935, but also in earlier periods of human history. Why have we not learned to prevent such things? Why do people keep believing these so-called strong autocrats, who never act in the interest of the people but always for their own material and psychological gain?

It frightens me!

Sending warm greetings to Canada, Manuela

Hi, Manuela:

Thanks for the kind words. Truth is, I've never actually been to a club or to a festival of any kind. I love the music, but I suspect that one really needs to be immersed in the scene to produce it well. It is interesting to me that so many DJs actually make their own tracks. Berlin Calling was a really interesting. I didn't realize that Kalkbrenner was actually at DJ/producer until I researched him after watching the film. I thought he was an actor pretending to be a DJ! So, then, I was doubly impressed! I am relieved that the "message" I was trying to convey in the track was properly understood. I was a bit afraid the it might be mis-interpreted as the opposite of what I was feeling.

Oh, of course! Well, I think that my sister and I have completely different approaches. We have often used texts written by my daughter. In those cases, the text naturally comes first, and then the music is created to do justice to the words. On the other hand, when improvisingwhether on the guitar or pianosimple melodies emerge, and we then write lyrics to match. So, one approach doesnt exclude the other.

With your song, I can definitely hear layers that would leave room for a melody and vocals. Thats why I said that I could really imagine adding vocals to this song.

Best wishes, Manuela

You are deeply in the process so it is a common place!.
I only can answer, please do but on the other hand I hesitate simply because I have to respect your time. When I mess with music it is for relaxation and resting. For you it is a whole different thing. You really work, so it is something to get you tired. Anyway I'd be more than delighted if you chose one of my songs to give it lyrics to sing. Thank you for your kind thoughts.

Hello Anthony, I'm not quite sure what you mean. Which song should I listen to? Best regards, Manuela
AnthonyAttard
AnthonyAttard replied 29th May 2025 - 2 weeks ago
Oh dear Manuela
Many times I "listen" to a melodic line and this could be vor the vocals. You see as I understand your usual way of working is either having the lyrics and working the music on them, or having the music and working the lyrics on a given "line" for the vocals. I am really sorry I got you frustrated, it is just a way of me to making music. What I mean is that many times during the making of a piece of music, there is a track, or a layer, that could correspond to a potential vocals' track. It is an expression of mine and by "listen" I mean if in your mind there were lyrics or a melody that could be there for the singer. Really sorry, I only wanted to say "would you recognise somewhere in this music another layer, dedicated to the singing part?".
Thank you for taking the time to answer.
Kind regards, Anthony

Hello Manuela
Thank you so much for listening and commenting on my song. I am really glad that you liked it. Have you "listened" to the vocals? I am very interestef in your opinion. I have a beautiful soprano voice to deliver some ideas on vocals, but it's packed with an old freeware vst from ik multimedia which I only have installed on an old laptop. I mean that I don't use it so often because I have to export the audio of any project and start a new project in an older version of cubase on the laptop (still with the dongle and 32bit) and then export the audio of the soprano voice in order to import it to my main computer....I do it but it is a bit messy...another thing of course is the lack of lyrics to work on. I once liked very much poetry and tried to write some poets and lyrics but it is a long time before...Any ideas are always welcomed you know (smile).
Have a nice day, Anthony

Hi Leo, What an energetic and powerful song! Youve done a fantastic job arranging, mixing, and mastering it. I also find it remarkable how youve embedded the vocalspulling back the music during the singing and then elevating it to another level in the interludes. This creates an amazing dynamic and a wonderful sense of tension. As a listener, one almost wishes the song were a bit longer! Great work, Manuela

It must have been an exciting and wild time, shaped by the rebellion of youth against imposed rules from so-called authorities, the pursuit of sexual freedom, and much more. Some of it even reached us. However, I mostly know about it from books and my parents' stories. I didnt consciously experience much of it myself.

By the time I truly began to engage with music, it was a period where genres were increasingly blending, electronic music was on the rise, and bands like Maroon 5 and OneRepublic were incorporating rock elements into pop music. I believe this had a strong influence on me, despite my rather classical training. To this day, I find the fusion and experimentation with different genres fascinating, and I am fortunate to have my sister as a wonderful and highly talented musical partner.

Okay, I'll stop here, or I might end up writing a whole novel! But I truly enjoy exchanging thoughts with someone as experienced as you.

Best regards,
Manuela

It was a good time, yes. I imagine partially due to my youth, but I believe it was truly a better time. Looking back, it seemed to be so much more wide open and free. I imagine because we were, for the most part, pre-internet. Or, at least we weren't constantly being documented with cameras constantly in our faces, and social media telling us what to think and how to behave at all times. Which is probably a good thing, too. We were, (and still really are), quite the feral generation. There are a lot of us that wouldn't have come this far outside of prison if there were that many cameras back then! But, I digress. Back to the music....oh, the music...it was sooooo good. There was so much variety, and creativity. A lot of new genres did spawn from the 90s. Some good, some not so good, and some when mixed with others, really, really good.
I can definitely hear how the rock/pop hybrids have influenced you. I imagine your sister as well. You are fortunate to have her as a musical partner. Not just for the music's sake, but I imagine the ability to "get" each other comes fairly easily when working on projects.

Hello Kay, hello Oli! I truly admire how well you two harmonize and work together as a team. Once again, you've created a thoroughly thought-out, wonderfully crafted, and incredibly delicate song. Hello Aaron,
Thank you for the explanation! Now the connection is clear to me as well. Smile Another barrier overcome. *Smile*

No, I didnt know the band or the singer before. When the band supposedly broke up in 1998, I was only 13 years old. But I did a little research online and listened to the song "Would." What a great track!

Yes, the singer is famous and was probably one of the best in the genre. Its sad that he ended his own life in 2002 with Speedball. It was interesting to learn that the band never really officially broke up, despite claims to the contrary, and that they actually continued from 2005 onwards with different singersincluding William DuVall, whom I know and appreciate from Giraffe Tongue Orchestra. I even got to meet him personally in Leeds in 2016. Such a small world! *Smile*

Always glad to help!
I knew, and still know the band well. Their songs have been tattooed onto my soul. I was in my 20s in Portland, Oregon in the 90s. Which means I was about 3 hours south of Seattle during the whole "Grunge" movement. (Well, 3 hours depending on who was driving!) So, I was right in the heart of it. Because of that, for me, when Layne died, so did AIC. I appreciate the fact that they continued on, but I just couldn't get into them afterwards. I can absolutely respect the talent William brings to the table, but the chemistry just isn't the same, and it's not a chemistry that mixes with my own.
Funny thing about the song "Would" is that it's about Andrew Wood, another singer that died of a heroin overdose. Which more or less served as the catalyst for the entire "Seattle sound".
Anyhow, I could nerd out for hours on 90s music trivia. But I'll show restraint.
It is cool that you got to meet Mr. DuVall. I don't really know much about him, but he seems like hes a pretty cool guy. He had some impossibly big shoes to fill, and he seems to have done it well.

Hello Aaron, it's so great to hear a new song from you here again. I've missed you *smile*. This piece is incredibly intense, dark, and so fascinating that the almost five-minute journey through the twists and turns of my imaginative inspirationsunfolding before my eyes as I listenedflew by in no time. A fantastic musical narrative in a high-quality production. You always manage to captivate me with your brilliant phonetic imagery.

I do understand what a Pinkissen "Maenchen" is, but I dont quite grasp the term "Pinkissenmedizin." If I interpret Katharsis as a form of liberation or cleansing, which in this case is a reaction to great loss, then I struggle to see the connection to Pinkissen(medizin). I would love to know what you mean by Pinkissenmedizin.

Sending my warmest regards to Frau (V) Manuela as well!

Manuela, hello.
Thank you for the warm welcome back. It's comforting to know that my lack of presence was noticed. I was having technical difficulties with my production set-up, and had to go a couple weeks with no production in the process of replacing, rebuilding, and reinstalling. Now, I'm up and running again with better equipment, and better software. So, at least being gone was for a good thing, and not one of tragedy.

Okay, now, to answer your question:
"Pin cushion medicine" is a lyric in the song "Hate To Feel", originally sung by Layne Staley of Alice In Chains, who tragically died of a heroin overdose. The term refers to the act of shooting up. Using a needle to inject heroin intravenously . His arm being the "pin cushion" for sticking the needle into, and the heroin itself being the "medicine". In short, it's a slang term for heroin use.

I don't know if you've ever listened to Alice In Chains or not, but, with you being a vocalist, I would love to know what your opinion is of Layne's voice. In my, (and many, many others) opinion, he's truly one of the greatest.

This track is cathartic to me because I have known a few people who have walked out of the proverbial door with the needle still hanging from their arm. So, for me to make this track, it was kind of a way to release the feeling that I get sometimes when I think about them too much.

I hope I explained that well enough. Hooray for language barriers, right? ;) But, I'm glad you asked!

I hope all is well with you and yours.
Do take care.
Aaron

Hello Anthony,

You know that I've been a longtime friend of your musical stories. I deliberately say "stories" because I truly believe that all of your songs that I know tell a tale of home, joy, and a love for life. They radiate such a positive aura that goes far beyond the sounds and tones of your music. They create vivid images in the listener's mindsomething that very few here on LM can achieve.

Your productions are excellent and have a wonderfully traditional, folkloric touch. They have soul. I still remember times when you were unsure whether your productions were good enough. I always encouraged you to keep going. Believe me, youve reached a certain level of perfectionismthe good kind. I can only say, stay true to yourself. Keep going.

I also really appreciate that you take your time with your productions, because quality takes time. Your work is truly good.

Hello Manuela
Your voice is a friendly and much respected one.
I actually utilize music as a means of expression. I believe we all feel this idiom of mathematics, it talks to the soul. It is penetrative and it reaches our deepest memories. I feel very excited when I get messages like yours. My life is devoted to man's well being and it has been a choice that I had to stay true to myself. I try to respect music since I love it. All these "songs" are shades of my existence. I love to listen to real musicians and I literally am "jealous" of their brilliant minds and souls.
I do know "perfect" is a term I cannot reach in any aspect of my life. I try to be bearable. If so, I feel that the day has been productive and meaningful.
For the time being I try to come up with these twelve pieces. Lately I do dedicate my spare time to these "traces of life" and I still feel joy and fulfillment.
It was great having this conversation with you.
Best wishes, Anthony
