Thank you BaoBou, that's nice to hear. I worked on the vocals in particular for quite a long time and in the end I still wasn't sure if it worked or if it was complete crap. I've found that adding a little chorus to background vocals is a great way to set them apart from the rest.
I am very happy that you like the track.
Cheers,
Micky
This is awesome stuff man. Oh, and anyone who gets offended at a category label can F right off - that can never be the goal of music.
I think you've been silent for a couple months (since Sept? ) Here's hoping you're ok - if there's some mild writer's block or stuff holding you back - they can't hold us down man. The music will always come out!
(Hugs)
I'm glad you heard and enjoyed this track.
I imagine LM must be posting it from time to time.
I don't remember it getting quite so many listens when
I posted it back in March.
It's very encouraging to get such a rave review from you
I'm a huge fan of all your work here on LM.
I also appreciate your concern, I have been going thru a rough patch since October. I'm ok tho. Quitters never win and winners never quit. I may pause but I never quit.
I hope to be back on LM soon.
That's a lovely piano, but I don't think the beat fits it, and I don't feel the vocal is in sync either. It might still be an interesting combination, but I do think it needs work.
Is it me or is not everything in sync? I hear some great songs, but I think it could be smoother and more coherent. Which is a pity because I think there's a massive amount of work in this.
Good luck!
Lovely chord progression!
For vocals I have tips:
1) there are a gazillion acapellas on this site. They melay not fit your chords exactly, but it's worth a browse (I did quite a few of those).
2) in the end if you need vocals, the best is to do it yourself. I've maintained for years that I can't sing, won't sing... And in the end, all I needed was a bit of confidence (and some lessons).
Just try it and get better every time, just as it is with everything else :)
Thanks a lot, will try your suggestion regarding acapellas , as for singing myself, I stopped that years ago, when you get to 88 years old the voice gives up completely.
If you did that in 2 hours then this is an awesome result. I like the little details such as the violins... But I also feel something is missing and I'll be honest, I can't tell what exactly.
Nevertheless, I still liked it a lot. Good collab!
thanks Bao, there are styles where I don't get bored too much, this one is one of them! I just wanted to "try" on a style approaching hip hop, many artists on LM do that much better than me!
Michael
You know what, I'm really happy you mention the little detail about having worked in rehearsal rooms and recordings :)
I didn't start all this stuff until a couple years ago (well, almost 5 by now) and only the past year have I been doing recordings of drums/vocals and getting more interested in the mixing/mastering... and I feel so stupid sometimes when I hear people like you, Manu, MtKing and so many others bang out one amazingly produced track after the next...
It's nice to know that the people I look up to are often (a lot) more experienced, and there is still some hope for me ;)
I'm now thinking I might make a latin/funk version (maybe lounge jazz :D ) which I think would also be fun... but I've already got 3 songs in scaffolding that I should finish first, so let's not ;)
Again, good job man!
Awesome track Micky. I also recognise the great work you did on the original loop which was funky, but didn't nearly sound as crisp as you made it. The bas is also top notch!
Well, and your drums, obviously. You will need to tell me how you manage that, I clearly have something to learn here :)
Thank you for listening. Oh yes, the drums... when I was still working with bands in rehearsal rooms, I also had a lot more time and recorded real drums. Since I didn't have that many tracks at that time, I used four microphones to record the drums and put them together in such a small box. It had four inputs and one volume control each. Nothing special and also dirt cheap, but I was able to adjust the recording a bit. I always think it's good to use real drums, but I just don't have the time for it anymore. That's why I became friends with Garage Band's "virtual drummer". If you enslave it and "abuse" it a bit (musically speaking, of course) you can get pretty good results out of it. However, I'm not even particularly happy with the result of this track. But I tend to bang out tracks before I really get bogged down in them.
Btw, my friend Robbie (JYNXZ) uses a drum program that he keeps surprising me with because it sounds so damn real. Unfortunately I've forgotten the name, but I'm happy to ask him about it. I'm sure you'd get a convincing drum sound with that.
I had never heard a banana scream... but now I do! I guess this is the sound they make when they go into the blender ;)
Seriously though, great to hear you and Majid had fun, well done!
heyy baouBou, i never thought about this. this is great. im currently working with blener on my banana comic. i think we got a idea here. i will blend some bananas. thank you for doing this comment it inspires me. greetings from a banana
Yeah, it's close but not quite the same as the original. Easy song to play, more about tones on the guitar and bass and the sound of the drums, try to make them punchy and more period sounding.
There's a back catalog of beats I'm uploading as I remaster them all, along with some new stuff tossed in. If y'all really like the old school content, I can start experimenting with that more!

I mean, this could easily be a punk/indie hit. Top notch!
I'm feeling more comfortable and confident singing within my abilities. Having some fun with the lyrics and story.
