on Can we get Down remix by victormusic01x
You know, I think why I did your approach to Hip Hop so much is that you so obviously draw from so many other traditions for your approach. You didn't grow up on Hip Hop, so you've got something real and significant to offer it.

For a first draft, this is really exciting, Victor! Like you, I can't wait to hear where it ends up! Those percussions are jamming! And the way they dance with the synth...SWEET. Nice one.

on Outback Dream Time by Steevo
Well I was hooked within 5 seconds, so that says a lot!

You captured the walkabout vibe without using the instrumentation overtly - very cool and impressive move! The down-tempo rhythm that drives this is BEAUTIFUL and knits it together seamlessly. My only criticism (a anti-criticism) is I wish it was about 3 or 4 times as long! Added to favorites for sure (I'm betting I'm not the last either)! Thank you for pleasing my ears and mind so well with this offering!

Loving what you are doing right now with the dub stuff.
I may develop this track, in time, other lives allowing.
Grateful for the review, all the best.

on I Need Girls (Xavier Qanta remix) by sigmamanone
A new mix from my favorite Belgium language arts teacher! The arrangement and mix are SOLID! Man, you've got levels so right throughout, it's hard to find criticism or suggestions for it.

I love how you've achieved a kind of Pop sensibility while staying grounded in Techno. It's this kind of fusion that brings people into genres that they're usually not attracted to or interested in. And for me, that little moment right around 4:00 when you slip in some Celtic melody with a fiddle makes this brilliant. Outstanding work, and worthy of adding to my list of personal favorites! Excellent!

Thanks buddy! Talking about Celtic stuff: have you already checked out my 3 new Irish tracks (My Lagan Love, Cyberpiper and An Hide And Go Seek)? I will post those acapellas one of these days so you can use them!

Lamb's Bread to be sure. I love the flavor of your bass and organs.

I keep thinking if The Beatles had done dub, it would have sounded something like this. Amazing.

Great collab! One for the personal favorite list.

Hmmm - 6 reviews and 6 favorites, shall we make it 7 for 7?

Love that bass intro, and the sounds so grounded in tradition that soon follow. Yeah, everything about this track is righteous. Well done!

Spectacular, even!

on Minette - Cherry (BigPete music) by BigPete
You continue to impress me, Pierre. It's amazing tracking your musical progress in less than a year for me.

I think this is the best use of a Minette `pella I've heard yet. You're mix sounds organic and live, as if the instruments and singer did this together at once. Love the strings and percussion.

Added to faves and downloaded. Thanks!

on IN The Jungle by Enhouse
Seems a bit thick - like you've cranked up the mid range and bass frequencies, and right on the verge of distortion. It really needs more in the upper mid and high ranges.

Like the rhythm you've got happening - very tribal and full of potential.

I'm not very familiar with Reaper, though understand it's pretty difficult to use. Keep it up!

on The Machine by MisterFujisam
To my ears, this has a lot of the sensibilities of the first wave of Industrial music. There is definitely the vibe of machinery, but moved out into the sphere of music.

The percussion surprised me. It was much faster than I expected, and really works well. So well, that I can't imagine this without a slower tempo. Love the distorted angst of the lead, too.

Fantastic ending.

We've had a thread going called "Ambient Logbook," and I'm going to add this one to the list of Exemplary Tracks. You're use of panning and creating sonic textures is exactly what we've been discussing.

I love the minimalism of this piece. It conveys that contemplative/reflective atmosphere, and it does something else as well. Admittedly, I'm biased as I've read your description, but the track does carry an emotional current that's both melancholy and reverent. It's very cool that this comes through, and I think I would make that call even without the description.

Most certainly will be checking out more of your offerings. Love the implications of your nym, and appreciate the irony of it in conjunction with your current avatar!

Cheers, and I'm glad I noticed your presence here!

on voices by rei4real
So, you've gone from 1 track posted a couple weeks ago to 39 now? It's daunting trying to choose what to listen to next!

This one I've enjoyed many, many times on Devodale's radio stream, and is probably my favorite track of yours to date (that I've heard). It's also one of my all time favorite Ambient tracks.

Your texturing here is awesome. Like you, I don't find the voices scary, but unsettling and this creates a very interesting tension that is reconciled by the emotion of your guitar. Like it howls and cries for the voices. The guitar also share qualities that remind me of David Gilmore's work - grounded in primal Blues and moved out into post-psychedelic experience.

Downloaded and faved.

I'm so glad you're here, rei4real!

well, actually there's only one new upload here, all the other tracks were set inactive while I was away, except "follow the sunset" ... this way I avoided that people loose points for their reviews (and you know, it's many of them ...)
anyway ... thank you for that awesome review!!!
it's also one of my own favorite tracks, I'm really very satisfied with it ... you know, sometimes you achieve it to lay down 100% of what you imagine, this is one of that rare moments ...
Gilmour ... wow ... I really love his playing (like millions do), but I'm not sure if he would be as happy with this comparison as I am ... lol
thank you!!!!

Wow. This really is the exemplary "Chillout" track, and one I'm sure to reference regularly in future discussions. It's connected perfectly to the origins of the genre (something to chill to away from the rave floor), and inseparably connected to the atmosphere of Ambient.

I think this is the best mixture of field recordings and music I've heard.

Fantastic.

One lesson to take from Van Gogh is stay away from razors when on a drinking binge with absinthe -lol. Nice that the EU let that law expire.

I've lurked this song one too many times to not comment, but I hadn't heard it since the update. There's a marked difference in tonality in this mix, isn't there? Wow.

I've been drawn to this one fairly regularly, because it is so Folk as an archetype. Even the title reflects this tradition perfectly. You don't have to search for human production in this song - it fully embodies the human spirit and condition.

Beautiful and faved (finally!).

Ha, you're attempt is a lot closer than mine came!

Really like your mix - the vocal samples rhythmically really work with both the percussion and the bass. I see someone else said that the highs were too clean, but I really like how there's such crisp separation between the tracks. Really nice work.

on woven wonders salook co lab extendah by arkeyetexture
"Vietnamese Showdown" brought me directly here to see if you had any collabs up. You and Salook are a good sonic pairing. I think whether you know it or not, you're both influenced by Post-Industrial music and both in soundscapes like this, and movement motivating tracks like "Vietnamese" you translate that into dynamic, exciting music. There's a sense of deliberately creating emotional locations in your audience.

I think these are the deepest frequencies I've not really heard on a track here yet. I didn't know my cheap sub could generate wave forms that low. Whoa. Impressive work.

on Surrender To Me (Trance Mix) by Jpipes24
Outside my own comfort zone, so all I can really offer is my impressions as a deep listener to sound.

This is one happy track! I've got an 11 year old daughter who is an unabashed fiend of Trance music, and I'm going to get her opinion as well - but I'm already predicting her happy dance when she sees it's available for download.

I need to check your profile to see what DAW you're using, but the crispness and separation of your tracks is really good. This is really well arranged and mixed. Nice! (Put some work into mixing down, didn't you?)

Certainly motivated to check out more of your work after hearing this first one! Keep it up, we need more sincere musicians around these parts!

on Breathless by rei4real
Because of my own tendency to bend genres, I've been spending far too much time researching this subject lately. The conclusion (one anyway) I've come to is more and more sub-genres arrive all the time to try to categorize the exceptions.

This is Techno that's bending or breaking rules of the genre. It's through these songs that challenge the assumptions that new and exciting stuff is made (or discovered). Best to break the rules to make good music than follow them and sound like everyone else.

Love the energy in this one!

I know it's stating the obvious, but there's a reason this is the number 1 favorite track on this site.

I've enjoyed this one anonymously so many times now, I thought I should say something. It's taking every bit of my will power to not push the favorite button myself.

Someday I will, but for now I'm holding out.

(EDIT) - lol - 3rd listen in 2 days and I can't hold out any longer. Favorite #58 is mine! This song is a true gem, standing out among the 35,000+ tracks now on this site.

on heres johnny by Sector7even
I really dig your breaks (like scratching?) shortly before the 2:00 mark. Nice surprise there - unexpected and mixes things up a bit. Also very sharp getting it to reflect the wobble in the bass.

I'm been playing around a bit around this genre (around because I just can't commit) and find some of the "rules" rather baffling. Listening to your work here, I'm wondering how you don't feel trapped by it - and you obviously don't because you're keeping it "live" and happening with the bass throughout. Is that the key? Focus on bass lines?

I like this one, and wonder if you're done with it. The only constructive criticism I can offer has to do with the tonality. In my ear, the drums are really distinct as they're so crisp sounding. Everything else is rather muddy (not bad, just thick) and I wonder about giving more definition to something else. In other words, keep the bass as thick sounding, but offer a bit more separation to the vocal effects for example. I think it'd offer a good dynamic as it'd add further emphasis to the bass.

Nice one! Cheers.

hi nomad, you nailed it buddy, i agree with you 100% as have found ive had to try to use compression to get the bass under control..it would seem it is a bit loose upon the release and wanted to tighten it up. i am not finished yet, i took this to my mp3 player and headphones as well as my car and both seem to tell me the same..just as you have..need to bring the same clarity and seperation to all parts equal to the clarity of drums.i do, however, like the darkness of this track so want to leave the vox 'muddy' and nightmare[ish].i agree withyou that the rues are a bit weird to me and the whole 4-4 goes out the window.lol..i am drawn in by the 'raw' basslines and pur 'energy' involved with this genre..loving it and want to venture farther in..ive only ever made 2 dub trax..this one and one before 'dub a lub dub' and a radio station guy approached me for the use of it so this intrigued me.
have you posted up any youve made? let me know so as to have a listen. i thank you for your great guidence and look forward to nailing this one yet.

WTF? One review in a month and a half, and with all the forum posts specifically on dubstep? Maybe it's too inherently challenging?

Did you ever see Crash Worship when they were doing their thang? I wonder not because I hear the similarity in styles, but more in the spirit of the approach. I bet you have some wild shows, especially in what happens to your audience.

I love how the bass is so understated at times here.

Such an interesting interpretation - a Renaissance city sonically painted into an electronic Trance soundscape! Neon lights at night on 500 year old walls.

I think I understand why you have the intro as it is, and the previous reviews and advice for revision really got me thinking. My offering for some kind of compromise is this: consider adding some delay to the off-tempo tuned percussion.

If you can time the delay correctly, (delay at same bpm as track) you'll retain the original effect and bridge or merge it into the solid beat that it floats over. It will soften it a bit, but it'll still feel like that "old forgotten memories" that it reminds me of. Nice work here!

on The Dolphin's Tranquility Family Reunion by ShojoBeast
Hi Beast of Shojoland,

The thing that really strikes me with this piece, and makes me think about your other tracks, is how much you do without any kind of drums. Knowing you as I do, and knowing that you're a Trance music fiend, this is really amazing.

"The Dolphin's Tranquility Family Reunion" is really striking because to my ears' there's an internal rhythm that holds it all together, but it's not something that is actually physical. It makes me wonder about how you hear music in your mind when you're creating.

Very lovely track, and another added to my favorites! Thank you.
