on neilly and doods 1st track by themuralist
First to listen and review - that doesn't happen often!

One minute in, and I'm thinking that I'm glad you're here. This is very cool, and definitely a fusion of musical traditions resulting in something both dynamic and significant. It positively drips with the optimism coming from people with the right affinity jamming together.

Spirit affirming to be sure.

Cheers.

on Ode to Arapaho by Spivkurl
Definitely the most post-modern track I've heard in 2011 so far. I love the idea of recycling sounds in music (been doing some of that myself and delighted to see others doing it too - rather validating), but you my friend go one step beyond in terms of production. Bent circuit into reel-to-reel? Dude, that's one step beyond deconstruction - almost alchemical.

This is right up there with "Clarity" for me. Outstanding.

Hey Nomad glad you found this track! Post-modern eh? I guess I see what you mean! Yeah it was really fun glitching onto reel to reel, got lots of that natural saturation that I love! I love decontsruction! Happy you could get into this song! Thanks for the review and the fave!

The title sure sounds better in French, doesn't it? Somethings just don't translate well.

I need to check your profile, as I'm hearing Tiken Jah Fakoly sounds in this. Are you in West Africa by chance? The best Reggae has been coming from there for years. So has the best Latin music via Africando.

Outstanding song here, mon ami.

Salut.

on Blackout by dv8
I for one am glad to see this one back online for public (pubic?) consumption. Grimey, and in need of a serious bath.

You're one that should constantly be stepping out of your comfort zone creatively. When you do, you come up with stuff like this. And this is awesome.

Cheers, salutations, etc.

on VENTURE by Silvestre
Really can hear the Deep Purple influence here (weren't their album covers great? I love purple). Love that bass.

Fayz gave some really good advice, so I won't repeat any. Definitely have to listen to more of your work so I get a sense of your style.

Cheers.
Silvestre
Silvestre replied Unknown
the bass seems like smog in the whater and some of the guitar looks in the style of deep purple on the album " made in japan" all i need is some organ loops in the same style of deep purple as complemt to be closer to the way of deep purple

thank you for your review

Cheers

on Wyl Deez by DjWylD
I kept thinking this would go over well at a Haida potlatch. For some reason I keep hearing tribalism connected to some kind of First Nations experience.

Nicely done.

Absolutely beautiful work here, Minette. No surprise, as I've come to expect excellence from you. Great choice of sounds here - a lovely minimalism that supports your voice so well.

on Action Figures by Avonaco
Instantly faved. I really love how resolution (interpretation) lies with the audience in this piece.

On one hand, I can hear "Action Figure" as a sort of sonic fetish - one that can be used by either the defender or aggressor as gris-gris for aggressive action. Who needs bullet proof jackets when you've got sonic protection? Behind this is a kind of "reality" that's completely ambivalent to the short term actions of the human agents. Geological time prevails.

Amazing how you've fused so many musical traditions in this piece.

Brilliant.

I'm kinda digging your insight on music mate. The way you can feel the music is great and shows the depth and love you have dancing with it. And I'm glad you really dig the track bro. Three of three... right?

on Mozart Turkish March by StephenPotter
You don't take it seriously, but it sounds like you approached it sincerely. This is good.

It needs to be longer, but you know that.

Subverting Mozart is something that should probably be done more often.

Nice one.
StephenPotter
StephenPotter replied Unknown
I think the reason I chose mozart is because of the music studies I've been doing in school.

The original idea was Beethovens "Ode to joy", but I prefered turkish march.

I do think people should take a look at classical stuff, just because its old doesn't mean you can't learn anything from it.

Thanks for the review!

Glad to finally be directed to this. Rootz Dubstep, and a great example of why the genre has become so popular.

on Spaceman From Planet Blazetron by BluntsAndBeats
Yeah...just where does this belong, genre-wise? I think that's what I like best about this - and there's a lot to like - you've taken recognizable musical forms and got them all to dance around together.

Technically it's good, too. All the levels are great and the separation between tracks makes all the sounds really sharp.

Very, very cool.

on The Dunes (Dream Ending) by ParkerMusic
I got to play on a sitar 2x back when I lived in Seattle. It was rough, as the sound was so sweet that my eyes would tear up after a few riffs. Like the kora, I turned down babysitting the instrument as I new it'd cause me to flunk out of grad school. I'd end up sitting for hours just tuning the thing.

This is lovely work. Very visual, and emotional.

on Rock Lives ft AllenV by DJSchmeeJ
When AllenV first appeared here, I knew he was going to be a true asset (and not a liability). I'm always excited to see collabs with his guitar involved.

Looks like everyone's said what I can - so I'll just say that this is a powerhouse. Feel good. You've nailed this one!

on New World Order by DJSchmeeJ
You do have it all here, don't you? Didgeridoo, ney, tablas, urhu....

I've got a real soft spot for the didgeridoo, as it's the instrument that got me onto the stage and performing in Seattle back in the early `90's. It also led mo many "aha" moments regarding "primitive" instruments and psychedelia.

Wish this piece had been a bit longer, but is outstanding in its current form. Faved.d

Still think the Winter Olympics missed out not having this as their theme song - Whistler would have been so much better with this blasting out of the official PAs there.

I love seeing my favorite artists step out of their comfort zones, and I can't help but here Bill stepping way outside his with this!

Still and all time favorite.

on Daybreak by Manfrix89
Chillout Dubstep?

Why not? There's nothing inherently incomparable between them....and this is like one step further than Chillout. Here you get a sonic massage as well - lol.

Very, very cool disruption for the genre fascists. I can hear them complaining, "you can't do that!"

I love that I'm hearing more dubstep that uses some of the happier frequencies. Compelling stuff - well done!

on Light In The Darkness by HaruTune
Infectious and simultaneously minimalistic. Not easy to do, but you've done it really, really well. Nice one.

Like how the drums dance near a militaristic beat. Creates a tension that makes it all work.
HaruTune
HaruTune replied Unknown
Thanx ... and yeah you're right saying that drums were kinda militaristic cause this track was done when I was listening to Eminem-Like toy soldiers and I was inspired to do that.I mean I'm not really into mainstream HipHop/Rap but good inspiring songs are still dope whether they are pop or anything else.

Wow, I'm really glad ShortBusMusic plugged your music in the "Look What I Found Here" thread. Have you read through any of the Ambient Logbook thread we've got going yet? Lots of good stuff for those into this genre.

I love the sparseness of this piece. I tend to go the other way, and really admire hearing simplicity so effective/affective. Nice use of panning, and creating an emotional location.
