At the beginning, i found too this track wasd tainted of new wave inspiration... and after, during all the track an oriental/psychedelic touch is added. It's the way i feel it :)
i agree with others listeners, it's a great performance.
i'm sorry spiv i didn't find the right words to describe what i feel after listening your track. So i prefer do it in french! if it's difficult for you to translate, it's important to know that i found this track brilliant and what i wrote in french is fully positive ;)
I appreciate your comment so much, and it is a very rare thing indeed when I receive a comment primarily in a language besides English. I will be replying in English (US English by default these days), but I will send a personal message of a french translation by Google translate (the best I can do).
The number of listens you specify makes me respect your attention to the track even more so. The electric and electronic instruments involved help with the richness in many ways, as does the authentic and little processed performance of the bass part.
The bass is shared by two parts, the Epiphone P-Bass which was largely unedited, and the monotribe which was MIDI controlled aside from the intro (which was live performance). Both of these instruments are not overly ultra low frequency oriented, and the intentions were more along the lines of an 8 track recording or eighties new wave sort of feel, neither of which were very "sub" oriented.
I have been working extremely hard on mixing in the terms of a soundscape, and timing down to the millisecond. This is partly due to the particular limitations of FL Studio in it's current incarnation (12.4.2 build 33). Things having gotten far more difficult for me, due to recent changes.
Your mention of "modern art" as a music genre is interesting, as I have been working with musique concrete, avant garde, and generative music lately. All of these things are ones which I was brought up as being "modern art." What is modern has obviously changed though, so I'm happy that I can keep up, even if it is mostly on this site.
You can be assured that this piece would be far more appropriate in uncompressed format, on compact disc and a high fidelity stereo system. My music is always meant to be heard this way, as a complete album. This fifteenth lengthy release of mine should be available soon.
I thank you so much for your comment, and I will return the favor soon. Hopefully tomorrow I will easily remember this experience and arrive at your profile. Have a great day!
Totally in the spirit of Front242! remeber the warbeat genre from the eighties, at the beginning of the electronic music in germany!
i'm really impressed by the quality and the capacity in creating such harmonies!
the using voice becomes an instrument with this kind of flow. It contributes in the rythm with perfection! as i said, i'm really impressed!
I have only rarely listen to front242, yet I take it as a big compliment! It is simply not my favorite era of industrial sort of music. I do know of warbeat genre, sort of identify it with hardcore. I always listened to hardcore which was at higher tempos than this, like around 150-200 BPM, yet I still think this is borderline hardcore... ha ha.
I hope that you can take a moment to hear the new mix, as I think it is much improved. The high frequencies on most tracks were a bit harsh after mastering, so I went and improved the mix and then mastered again.
I'm happy that you enjoyed the vocal work, as it took a lot of real life experience to lay it down like this. Thank you for listening and leaving your words!
Very kind words indeed thank you so much.
For me all creative undertakings are art. Writing knitting whatever.
That jumper your grandma made you .... work of art.
Thank you Bleep! I'm glad this track made you feel anxiety. That's exactly what I was going for (lol kinda mean, I know). When we get this film off the ground I will definitely share the link, would love to known what people think of it.
nice groove with a perfect bass line. For me the track really begin at 01:39
the intro before is not necessary (it's just my point of view of course :))
from 01:39 to the end, it's a real pleasure. In france we hace an expression to describe something with high quality; we said: "c'est du velours" ;)
I thank you for your kind comments. I'm very pleased you liked it. It was de-constructed from a more complicated affair and the intro had a bridge but I got lazy and left the break in. It was very late. Perhaps I'll take your advice and re working is in order. Thanks
base très intéressante pour travailler dessus notamment une bonne rythmique, qqes vocals, qqes nappes de synthés en plus, etc... il y a pas mal d'opportunités avec cette base ;)
j'aime beaucoup l'emploi du delay sur le synthé
My first impression after reading your comment was how sweet it was, and I realized that this may be the result of having had my hands deep in the soil only a moment earlier. Either way, I am still deeply honored by your words, and humbled as well. I too am proud of this work, but I must give credit to those who were derived from in this work, including but not limited to Terence Mckenna. After having experienced the other bomb through massive filtration, your mention of a bomb is respected. Robert Smith knew what he was saying when he wrote, "I don't know what's going on." Thank you for listening my friend!
after listening your track, it gets free a smooth urban atmosphere from it.
The instrumental part contributes widely to create this atmosphere. I really like your work with clever scratches, perfect beat, nice vibe. may be you could plan a beat break in the middle of the track? just to permite a relaunch if you see what i mean :)
très bon morceau. du coup, après simple écoute, j'ai aussi été voir le clip et la musique prend une autre dimension avec les images forcément. C'est très pro comme production, bravo!
A layman comment :
It's very minimalist and nevertheless there's a great deal of variations. really energetic with breaks which don't let you enough time to breath!
:)
I Like the industrial aspect too!
At 3:46, the final effect (the roll) is amazing. Others times in the track may be?

For me, something is missing to bind the vocal part to the instrumental part
The lagging effect given by the instruments create an hypnotic atmosphere and The render is this track is really singular.
