Wow, your music sounds quite balanced in terms of instruments - a rare gift in the tracks section haha. What do you use to create music like this? Ive been wanting to delve into electronic music for a while.

This song was made almost entirely with sylenth1,and wav samples for the drum sounds of course, thanks

I agree with BeatMechanic, this is definitely more of a chillout vibe. Very pleasing on the ears. You should mash the instruments a bit more with compressors to get a nicer thump! I am not capable of creating music like this and it makes me envious!

Excellent work! :)

That synth at the start is so extremely phat! I love it. The drums need to be a tad louder to fill the space and provide the energy for the melody, but that is a very easy fix :) I really like the textures in this song. The chopped up vocal is a neat addition as well!

Yo Eric! It has been a VERY long time since I've seen you grace the LM scene. This song really does tell a story! I could totally imagine it being the backing track to a scene in my favorite game, Witcher 3!

Hi, Brado. Yes, I've been on LM less frequently in the past while, that true. I did post another track recently, another 80's recreation. So, perhaps I'm on a roll! :)

I just read that Witcher 3 had some seriously good musicians involved in its production, including the Brandenburg State Orchestra That's a very high compliment.

Thanks again.

Man, you make me want to go back to my city's cathedral just to hear the organ again! It is truly the "king" of all the instruments. Such glorious sounds to my ears. Great playing by you, friend! I have nothing but praise for the execution of that piece. Beautiful!

It sounds quite active, but I felt a lack of deep-end presence. The vocals are top-notch! Just a bit more low-end punch would seal the deal for me! Beautiful work :)

This was a pleasant listen. The piano was a bit harsh at some parts but overall it had a very fantasy-like atmosphere, very appropriate for a video game!

Great work,

on Hours And Hours by StaticNomad
Gregarious and Grateful Greetings Groovy Nomad,

Now THIS is what I love. That bassline is so fat and subby in my headphones!! The groove is solid. And that CELLO! This, THIS is what I missed from Looperman!

I have such an utter soft spot for cello as you may have noticed. I cant' get over the sound of it in this song. So dreamy, and the delay really adds to the overall element. Any way I can download this somewhere? I'd love to listen to this at work. 3:08 was like entering a large expansion, I can't get over that feeling of the widening!

4:05 - I can't get over those dreamy ambient synths. What are you using to get such silky, warm tones? I want that for my own music. Is it time-stretched cello or something? Lol, speaking of which, I haven't done any personal work as of late so I haven't had a chance to timestretch anything out. But I do want to, eventually.

8:53 - once again, such downright gorgeous pad work. Teach me thy ways, senpai!

Yo.

Thanks for having a listen and I'm glad I could provide you with what you were yearning for.

"I cant' get over the sound of it in this song."

Yeah, it's nice though I have been, to some extent, a bit unadventurous and lazy with my cello sound while I've been playing and recording it for the last 15 months. I use mostly the same setting in each track though I have also come up with a few creative, unusual sounds.

"Any way I can download this somewhere?"

Sorry, not yet but eventually.

"3:08 was like entering a large expansion, I can't get over that feeling of the widening!"

I'm not sure the track got wider but that is where the glissando harp enters and is quite effective and strange.

"those dreamy ambient synths" are just synth pads. Actually, one is a piano out through a big, dreamy effect.

"I want that for my own music"

Just play around more with all sorts of ambient synth patches. I assume you must have some in whatever software you have. I use synths in almost every track I make and spend a fair amount of (boring) time auditioning patches from my fairly large library.

No, no time-stretched cello here. I still haven't really got round to doing that but should.

8:53 the main synth you hear is a lyre - a sample-based acoustic instrument that is a bit like a harp.

Thanks again for the feedback on this cello epic that has grown a lot on me since uploading it. It was a lot of work!

Dude, this is RIPE for vocals. I think it's finished, it's up to a vocalist to tell the story with something like this. It's not too busy and yet remains interesting. I particularly like those subtle piano runs around 1:15, breathes new life while still remaining simplistic. You should get a rapper like JTStone to rap on this! His voice is epic.

Why is this so fun to listen to?!

I've been away for some time and I come back to THIS? Amazing!!

Spiv, you really know how to paint art with your synth skills. It doesn't follow a rhythm like typical music but it sure held my attention. It's almost relaxing, honestly lol. It IS actually entrancing, and I really enjoy that feeling lol. Beautiful piece of art here, Spiv. You never cease to impress me with your works, and for some reason I can't get over this one. That synth, the sporadic feeling of it all. Subtle hints of a beat but never quite forming something coherent for the mind to follow. Amazing! Bravo!

Thank you Brado for the awesome comment!

I would fully admit that the focus of this one was not rhythm, despite one of the two instruments being a drum oriented item. People other than those which we call animals seem to forget that rhythm goes far beyond the frequency which humans usually respond to. The frequency of a human audio range sine wave, for example, The rhythm is the swing of the waveform. With mathematics, we can divide it down and reference a tempo, yet this seems unnecessary.

In recent times, there seems to have developed an obsession with rhythms in a very low frequency... rhythms which the majority identifies with dancing. However, dancing is a very personal and subjective thing, and no external force can tell us how or when to dance. You never know what could happen!

Your words have humbled me, and I thank you. There was no specific intent when I recorded this, and as such I can not be held liable for the effects of what I have done. Call it a loop hole, ha ha.

It's been awhile since I've been around Looperman and I came across this one at 5am in the morning (I never sleep lol)

Wow, this is older and I really like the 80s vibe I'm getting from this. The reverb has that classic long tail that was so prominent in that era of music. Fun listen! Hope youre doing well :)

Hello Brado
don't mind sleeping to much, there will be much time for sleeping later :)
Nice to read that you could enjoy the spirit of this track and had some fun while doing that.
Here is all well my friend. Only much to much work around. But that's not a reason to cry, maybe just a reason to make a new blues number
Thanks for the listen and your gentle comment.

stay tuned

Hey Brado, thank you for taking a listen to this!

How am I so creative? Well I suppose that, so far, I just simply don't have a choice. Most days, I feel the need to be productive in one way or another. Sometimes it isn't music, but visual art forms, writing, gardening, cooking, graphic design, electronic engineering, or activism. All of these other endeavors tend to inspire my musical work after a certain point, so it keeps coming back to that.

My capabilities when it comes to music seem to have "ups and downs." I've had slow yet engaged times, such as right now - as well as prolific but less dedicated times, such as 2012 when my albums "Glass" and "The Next One" were released. Each album I've finished has a special place in my soul, regardless of it's technical shortcomings or creative weakness. I expect at least this much from my next release.

I really appreciate the comment my friend!

on Back 2 Life feat Nick StoneStreet by Zivonmusic
The music is good in my limited experience of electronic music, but what seems to be most obviously flawed is the vocal mixing. It is covered up and drowned in reverb. I would suggest panning it more directly center (reverb included) so that it stands out more. Also, it could also benefit from a little bit of volume increase to my ears. Right now, it is too drowned out to be heard. Give it a shot and see what happens!

Best,

Brado

This was quite the trip! Haha! What did you use for the vocal recording (microphone)? Was it one you made? This is so trippy and I like it for some reason haha. Maybe because it's so against mainstream (which I hear too much of nowadays) :P Great stuff, I have no words or critiques. This song is in a category all it's own LOL!

Spivkurl
Spivkurl replied 3rd Mar 2017 - 8 years ago
Hey there Brado! Thanks for stopping by to listen! This was not a microphone that I made, but was in fact a vintage Marantz Superscope EC-5. I find myself using that one a lot lately, as it's response just seems to work well for my performance style. "Against mainstream," I suppose you must be right, since it mirrors the way I live (most days). It was kind of fun to make a short song like this, as often when I do they are without lyrical value, more like experiments. I think this gives it a bit of old school pop value. Thanks much for stopping by!

Hey Phatkatz! I haven't been on Looperman but I happened to click on this one by you and wow! You've seriously improved since I was last active! It sounds great to my ears. The bass and drums actually have a nice, full low-end punch and I wouldn't change a thing in the music itself. You could possibly cut off a little bit of low-end of the thunder since it muddles the mix there but its not a big deal. This is honestly a great mix. And I actually mean that.

Hey Brado, I've been hanging a bit and noticed quite a few regulars haven't been on much. Life happens and sometime we all just need a break. This is by far my favorite music site! I came across this waves crashing on the beach recorded from inside a cave during a rainstorm soundscape so thought would be cool to write something for it. I'm trying to get together an album of all cbg music with nature theme, the last track was a swamp one. I have look at those thunder crashes, they were added in just because ;) The idea is hearing them from inside the cavern so I left them raw, as downloaded, but maybe some low end cuts would be helpful. I came across 2 original song competitions today so submitted this and a few others just for fun. I love the powerful bass on this. That's my 5 string Ibanez with active pickups. Drums are addictive drums, live on stage kit.The guitar is my electric 3 string cbg, the only one so far I put a magnetic pick up in. Must make more with mag. pickups!!!
