On a serious note, I dig the discord you built up in this track. I've always had a soft spot for those ambient effects you seem to utilize so well on this track.

What did you use for the drums? This genre is my next task and I'd love to hear your thoughts. Did you mic the guitars or is that a plugin?

Best,

BradoSanz,
I actually created this instrumental with Music Maker Jam that came with my laptop when I bought it. However, I mixed different musical styles together to create something original. So to answer your questions, I used the drums that were given to me. The guitars were samples originally recorded by my cousin. I took them off a CD and implemented them into the track.

I admit that you're one of the first to post a decently-recorded "first track." in the Hip Hop genre. Dig it bro!

The energy is different but fresh, as priest39 mentioned. You chose some good sounds! Great stuff for using LM-based loops :)

I'm not going to cover what the others have already, and I do have another suggestion - maybe add a bassline to tie the song together! It'll help give the song purpose! Otherwise, I personally enjoy the reverse effect because its unique and a different way to listen to the song. You should record vocals over this in reverse too, just to make it one wild ride :)

Do you play the drums yourself? I believe you should look up quantization, itll help you a lot with making your music sound more cohesive.

Cheers,

I don't play an instrument, but I am a bit familiar with quantization (like a CAD snap option). GarageBand does it for me, but I kind of prefer when the melody lags behind the beat. Just my preference in hip hop. Thanks for the listen.

on ILP - Gotta Try by ConsciousEntitySound
I dig the message! The song itself is very catchy, lots of instrument activity and atmosphere - but seems to bury the vocals at times. I know you didn't mix it so it's not really a critique, more of just something I noticed. :) Your vocals are always solidly recorded so I have to ask, what microphone-interface-software setup do you have to make your recordings?

Cheers,

Brado

Hey man, thanks for the feedback and taking the time to check out the track.

The use of compression on my vocal wasn't applied the best way, agreed. Dude who did the mixing is somewhat newer to the game, so he kind of makes decisions very tenatiovely and reserved when he is mixing. I'm busy with a lot of other stuff going on right now so I didn't really feel overly compelled to get him to go back and play with the mix, plus I knew I would get some excellent remixes which give my vocals proper treatment so I'm cool with it.

Hardware:

-Apex540 Condenser Mic
-Zoom C5.1t USB Audio Interface
-Adobe Audition for tracking
-Custom built isolation box for mic

on Minale Official Song YogeshST by YogeshST
Let me start with some critique: but I would suggest pulling back on the dynamics just a tad. Raise the drumsLet the song breeze more and it will pay in dividends for the pleasant aesthetic of the song. A lot of the quieter sounds get mashed to oblivion when the song gets loud (1:50-2:00) for instance.

The drums need more punch and should be brought up a tad since they carry all the energy of the song. 3:26 for instance, feels weaker than it should be due to the drums not being more present and thumpy.

The good: A lovely, creative composition. I really like the piano riffs, they sound very happy and complement the song well. The ahhhs really add a nice dreamy effect. The melody was not repetitive as you added plenty of other instruments to do little runs of their own.

Good job, hope to see more from you!

I agree with BeatMechanic, this is definitely more of a chillout vibe. Very pleasing on the ears. You should mash the instruments a bit more with compressors to get a nicer thump! I am not capable of creating music like this and it makes me envious!

Excellent work! :)

That synth at the start is so extremely phat! I love it. The drums need to be a tad louder to fill the space and provide the energy for the melody, but that is a very easy fix :) I really like the textures in this song. The chopped up vocal is a neat addition as well!

Yo Eric! It has been a VERY long time since I've seen you grace the LM scene. This song really does tell a story! I could totally imagine it being the backing track to a scene in my favorite game, Witcher 3!

Hi, Brado. Yes, I've been on LM less frequently in the past while, that true. I did post another track recently, another 80's recreation. So, perhaps I'm on a roll! :)

I just read that Witcher 3 had some seriously good musicians involved in its production, including the Brandenburg State Orchestra That's a very high compliment.

Thanks again.

It sounds quite active, but I felt a lack of deep-end presence. The vocals are top-notch! Just a bit more low-end punch would seal the deal for me! Beautiful work :)

on Hours And Hours by StaticNomad
Gregarious and Grateful Greetings Groovy Nomad,

Now THIS is what I love. That bassline is so fat and subby in my headphones!! The groove is solid. And that CELLO! This, THIS is what I missed from Looperman!

I have such an utter soft spot for cello as you may have noticed. I cant' get over the sound of it in this song. So dreamy, and the delay really adds to the overall element. Any way I can download this somewhere? I'd love to listen to this at work. 3:08 was like entering a large expansion, I can't get over that feeling of the widening!

4:05 - I can't get over those dreamy ambient synths. What are you using to get such silky, warm tones? I want that for my own music. Is it time-stretched cello or something? Lol, speaking of which, I haven't done any personal work as of late so I haven't had a chance to timestretch anything out. But I do want to, eventually.

8:53 - once again, such downright gorgeous pad work. Teach me thy ways, senpai!

Yo.

Thanks for having a listen and I'm glad I could provide you with what you were yearning for.

"I cant' get over the sound of it in this song."

Yeah, it's nice though I have been, to some extent, a bit unadventurous and lazy with my cello sound while I've been playing and recording it for the last 15 months. I use mostly the same setting in each track though I have also come up with a few creative, unusual sounds.

"Any way I can download this somewhere?"

Sorry, not yet but eventually.

"3:08 was like entering a large expansion, I can't get over that feeling of the widening!"

I'm not sure the track got wider but that is where the glissando harp enters and is quite effective and strange.

"those dreamy ambient synths" are just synth pads. Actually, one is a piano out through a big, dreamy effect.

"I want that for my own music"

Just play around more with all sorts of ambient synth patches. I assume you must have some in whatever software you have. I use synths in almost every track I make and spend a fair amount of (boring) time auditioning patches from my fairly large library.

No, no time-stretched cello here. I still haven't really got round to doing that but should.

8:53 the main synth you hear is a lyre - a sample-based acoustic instrument that is a bit like a harp.

Thanks again for the feedback on this cello epic that has grown a lot on me since uploading it. It was a lot of work!

Dude, this is RIPE for vocals. I think it's finished, it's up to a vocalist to tell the story with something like this. It's not too busy and yet remains interesting. I particularly like those subtle piano runs around 1:15, breathes new life while still remaining simplistic. You should get a rapper like JTStone to rap on this! His voice is epic.

Why is this so fun to listen to?!

I've been away for some time and I come back to THIS? Amazing!!

Spiv, you really know how to paint art with your synth skills. It doesn't follow a rhythm like typical music but it sure held my attention. It's almost relaxing, honestly lol. It IS actually entrancing, and I really enjoy that feeling lol. Beautiful piece of art here, Spiv. You never cease to impress me with your works, and for some reason I can't get over this one. That synth, the sporadic feeling of it all. Subtle hints of a beat but never quite forming something coherent for the mind to follow. Amazing! Bravo!

Thank you Brado for the awesome comment!

I would fully admit that the focus of this one was not rhythm, despite one of the two instruments being a drum oriented item. People other than those which we call animals seem to forget that rhythm goes far beyond the frequency which humans usually respond to. The frequency of a human audio range sine wave, for example, The rhythm is the swing of the waveform. With mathematics, we can divide it down and reference a tempo, yet this seems unnecessary.

In recent times, there seems to have developed an obsession with rhythms in a very low frequency... rhythms which the majority identifies with dancing. However, dancing is a very personal and subjective thing, and no external force can tell us how or when to dance. You never know what could happen!

Your words have humbled me, and I thank you. There was no specific intent when I recorded this, and as such I can not be held liable for the effects of what I have done. Call it a loop hole, ha ha.

It's been awhile since I've been around Looperman and I came across this one at 5am in the morning (I never sleep lol)

Wow, this is older and I really like the 80s vibe I'm getting from this. The reverb has that classic long tail that was so prominent in that era of music. Fun listen! Hope youre doing well :)

Hello Brado
don't mind sleeping to much, there will be much time for sleeping later :)
Nice to read that you could enjoy the spirit of this track and had some fun while doing that.
Here is all well my friend. Only much to much work around. But that's not a reason to cry, maybe just a reason to make a new blues number
Thanks for the listen and your gentle comment.

stay tuned
