Hi Dave,

Say, just getting around to review a couple of your tunes here. After that last Van Halen song I posted, I had so many reviews to answer back too.

Anyways, your giving that Jazz bass a workout. It's nice to hear that kind of playing. Slap did a great job as well as he always does. Horns add a lot to a song.

I like this tune a lot, but doubt that I could play this type myself. More like Jazz which I never got into.
Great job here and I commend you both.

At the moment, I am trying to duplicate a guitar sound I have heard on a couple songs. One from Shania Twain and Miley Cyrus (Hannah Montana fame).
I am guessing it uses a combo of a Line 6 POD unit and a VoX wah-wah pedal held halfway down to give the unique tone. Guess I'll have to dig my Vox pedal out that I bought in the 60's.

Take care,
Randy

Hey Randy..glad you enjoyed the tune..yeah you can't go wrong with Slap in the mix that's for sure..lol..Haha.Wah pedals are so cool..I used to have one ages ago..but it went missing..and being primarily a bass player I never replaced it..I really like them though (must keep my eyes peeled for a good deal)..looking forward to hearing your next tune..cheers Dave :)

on Everything You Know Is A Lie(True) by dylanthermos
Hi there Mr. Dylanthermos,

Came over to listen to your rock song as you just reviewed one of my Blues tunes.
I too like the guitar sound in the beginning. Good lead work.
The vocals sound good. Did you record yourself twice to give it an almost harmony sound?

Very nice. Thanks for posting and sharing,
Randy
----------------------
Hi Dylan...as a follow up, I think a lot people do give reviews back once your known and been on here awhile. However, if you look at your review of a particular song.....and then scroll down the page to near the bottom, you can see all who have played your song. Now it is quite true you may have 34~ listens, but only 3-5 reviews, which really isn't much.

That happens to all of us. Some of the guys that have been on here the longest, will have naturally more reviews.

So myself, I never worry about it as if I can get 3 reviews out of 100 listeners, I am happy with that myself. Just means I don't have to give a review back to all the others who just listened, but didn't comment back. :-)

Then you can check the downloads of your songs too. That is helpful as well as that means someone really liked the tune.

Now...that being said, if you don't get any reviews, then you might want to make sure you post a notice of your song into the 'members tunes' forum so as to alert others that you have a song up and are asking others to give it a listen.

I'd say if 50 people listen to your song and NO reviews back, then I guess they didn't like it as most people don't want to give a negative review so as to hurt someones feelings. (Like...if you can't say something nice,...don't say anything at all)
Anyways, hope this bit of info helps.

Hi Randall,Thanks for the kind review. i have probably recorded three voices on this track.I love to double up on my lead vocal it gives it another depth........once again thanks for taking time to listen......if everyone reciprocated as you have done I think there would be interest on this site..............dylanthermos(Wales)

Thank you Randall for outlining some good points for me.
I wasn't sure if this was going to be my kind of site but you have just restored my trust in human nature.....will post a message in members tunes for good measure........Kindest regards......Dylanthermos.

Hi Devodale,

Really very nice guitar work with the effects and all.

Very cool lead work. Wish I could play like that more.
I like the vocals and the overall mix is very good. You can hear everything clearly and its nice to have the vocals out front.

Great job and am glad I came to listen.

Hi there peppermint!

Well now, this was really cool. I like all the stuff you put in this tune. Sounds like a spooky place to be in.
Nice effects and I like the changes to different themes.

I did a short rendition (intro only) to the Frankenstein tune that Edgar Winter did. Sounds pretty cool and maybe I'll add it on to one of my tunes at the end sometime.

Nice job,
Randy

Just a note here...I really can't make a full version of this song as it is a copyrited tune. I only got permission from BMI to do the intro.

on Still on the Front Porch by Filaofsoul
Hi all,

Just want to jump in and say this was a fun tune to collab on..
Actually this is my first collab basically. I just don't have much time to do this. It takes me usually a month or longer to put out 1 tune because I work so much.

A special thanks to Slap and Fila for letting me jump in on this one.
After listening to it more, I wish I would have put more slide guitar into it. But there is always another time.

on music in my head by ramin12
Hi ya Ramin12,

I saw the featured box and decided to give a listen to what the song was about. Has some nice synth work in it. The other instruments come off well too. It's good to be able to hear all the instruments clearly and not a lot of distortion from guitar.

Often I get ideas for my tunes from dreams too.

You did a nice job and thanks for sharing.

on KornBred by goosemeyer
Hi ya Goosemeyer,

In listening to your tune here, I like the doublebeat on the kick drum. I have a whole set of them on disk. I have only used a few of them as I don't do many metal tunes. One set was used in my 12 string tune, but it was mild.

The rest of the music was just fine...the bass, the guitar playing.
I didn't understand the words thought that well. The vocals need a different type of reverb or something. But that is my opinion. I could hear the 'after effect' at the end and it sounded tight.

Good job overall. Keep it up.

on spanish guitar song by ChrisHall
Hello there Chrilsh,

I just finished listening to your new Spanish tune. It's very nice and has a good clear sound to it. Perhaps to fill it in more if you wanted to, would be to have a separate rhythm track playing along.
Other than that suggestion, I like it and it sounds great. I also made a Latin/Spanish tune you might like to listen to to see what I did with mine.

Great job with this one Chrilsh.

Hello there Fil,

Ah, Barry's competiton song. I am supposed to do something with this too as I downloaded all the tracks awhile back.
I'll take a different direction, just not sure...maybe more a Blues theme.

I like what you did with it. The intro was very nice. I've never done any tune 5 minutes long, so it will be a challenge to come up with some cool stuff.
I like all the different instruments, flute, trombone, etc.

Good job done here.

Hi there Rei,

Yep....it's nice to have you back and to see what you've been working on. I love everything about this new tune. You keep outdoing yourself.

Nice guitar lead parts. The drums...well, what can I say, I use the same as they are recorded live drums. I just got a new CD from them today. All country stuff....brushes, etc.
Hard to find anything in 2/4 time.

Well, anyways, nice to hear one of your new tunes. Guess its back to the 'drawing board' for me then. Keep 'em coming!

Hi Warrior777,

Geez a new track up and you didn't tell me. :-)
Well, it is different than the ones before this. The vocals sound good, except their still coming from my left speaker.
That would make a big difference if you can get that fixed.
The music is cool too.

I have a couple almost finished. I'll upload one you might like to sing to later.
Good job,

Hi Dvibe,

Thanks for notifying me about this tune. I appreciate it.

I like the song. Great sax playing by Slap as usual and a nice beat. Voice sounding great for this tune. Had a nice Bass line too.

The song was pretty short tho. I'd recommend to try and get closer to 3 minutes length, like radio tunes are if you want to publish it.

Good job,

Hi Daniel,

Strange, this is a nice tune with lots of plays, but no reviews. Oh well, I'll be the first.
This tune has a nice flow to it and the guitars ring out nicely.

The addition of the strings fill out the song very well, and the phasing effect gives it a nice pleasant sweeping sound.
The bass guitar would be nice(r) if it stood out more. But then, it's a little hard to tell on these tiny computer speakers here at work.

Well, I like the tune and I think you did a great job of piecing it all together. You have lots of natural talent!

Thanks Randy for reviewing this one. Sorry I did not get back sooner with a reply. I got some new serious speakers and the base can be heard better on them, having said that, the EQ on the base here could be a bit more "basier". thanks again

on GO FOR IT !! by DanielGtrman
Hello Daniel,

Wanted to stop by and see what you had up as you also just checked out a tune of mine.

Overall, the sound is nice and the guitar playing is very good.
As for the drums, they come out the right speakers on my system.

I usually get my drums from www.betamonkeymusic.com
These are live recorded drums and they come in either 16 or 24 bit files. I always choose 24 bit as the quality is higher. They have samples for free as well and various types of music.

Of course when you use them at 24 bit, you have to final mixdown to 16 bit. It is the suggested way to go for quality.
I have several big drum programs in my software as well, but since I am not a drummer either, I am not always sure what goes where.

Anyways, I liked this tune a lot.

Hi again Omega85,

I like this tune as well. Esp. since it has vocals. I don't sing myself so I like listening to others.

Sounds like you got it all together quite well.
I'll comment and say, sometimes your voice gets a little drowned out by the background music. Need to keep the vocals on top when your singing.
Otherwise the delay effect is very nice and the vocals themselves were very good.

Nice song..I like it,
Randy

Hello Omega85,

I was browsing thru the latest picture gallery and saw your pics were the latest addition, and so decided to check one of your songs out.

You have this tune listed as 'metal', so I was expecting something different as I have done a few myself.
But this was cool, and like the others said, kinda of a fantasy one.

I see that you have just joined recently, so welcome and you'll find lots of loops here, and help in the forums as well if you need it.

Anyways, thanks for sharing this song with us.

Hi Dave,

Wanted to come over here and see what was going on in the mind from way across the world. Nice drum sounds/beat. I like the synth type bass sound....like a fretless bass sound to me since I also play bass.

Great Sax playing by Slap too. He makes that instrument just talk!
I am working on a rock tune again with some keyboard input this time. I've had a Korg for years and didn't use it a lot, but now I want to add some variety into my tunes as I am running out of ideas.

So thanks for uploading this tune. I see it as a featured as well, so that is great so others can catch it if they missed its opening debut.

Later and thanks for sharing.

Hi there Schleidh,

Saw your guitar come by as a 'featured' and decided to check out your tunes. (I use my 3 tele's as an icon).

I like your tune here. Nice and smooth and clear.
I use live recorded drums from Betamonkeymusic.com myself as I prefer that method. I also use prerecorded loops as a helper in my tunes. Example...I can't play fiddle, so I use loops for that instrument and some others.

As you get used to using software, you'll get better and better at it. I myself started in Nov. 2007 and have gradually gotten some decent stuff out using 'Pro Tools' and playing my own instruments. I do counrty, rock and blues.

So I'll keep a lookout for your coming tunes.
Nice job man.

Hi Slap,

Well, this just happens to pop up in the featured list.
Sounds like you have a one man band here with all the different instruments going on and vocals too.

24 tracks, is a lot. I can do up to 32 tracks, but I don't think I have gone over 16...and that was in my country-Cajun song.

Sounds like you found a great groove in your life with this tune. I see there is one more song you uploaded since this, but I happened to catch this one.

So I can only say, this is a first class production! Keep up the great work and play what you want to play.... whatever makes you happy. That's what I do.

on NO LIMIT-Extended Complete Version!!! by TRIS
Hi Tris,

I saw this song as a 'featured' and decided to check it out. I don't recall at the moment what a Korg r3 is. Myself I have a Korg Karma and am ordering a Korg M3 this week.
Anyways, I know what Korg units are capable of doing and wanted to hear what you had put together.

I think the song you put together here sounds pretty nice. I favor more realistic drums myself tho. So I often use drum loops from betamonkeymusic.com and use them as they are recorded live, 24 bit drums. But that is just my preference. You'll hear them in most of my tunes.

So all in all, everything sounded balanced and right on.
Will be even better when you get some vocals put in your tunes.
Thanks for sharing,

Hi there,

First off, thanks for reviewing my Metal Highway song.

I like your arrangement of this tune.
Sounds like you made good use of the loops available on here.
I haven't yet myself as I use loops along with my own playing of 6 instruments.....altho half of them are for country music.

I'll try later and listen to this tune on your Myspace page.
If you couldn't upload it here, then maybe it reached over the 7 MB limit? You could make the file smaller for here by changing the bit rate to 128 or smaller. 128 is usually the standard for web sites.

Anyways, nice job on this tune.

People over there would love to hear your songs too.

Anyway, I like your double kick drum sound. I love that sound and used it in a couple of my tunes. The guitar is very good sounding with a nice crunch to it and clear leads. You did a good job of mixing it all. You can hear everything.

I am working with a lady....her doing some vocals. Hope to post more songs with vocals. I hope you can get some vocals to your tunes as well.
