I think I recognize the sample, but I want to confirm something first. Did you by any chance take this straight off of an already recorded song that has a copyright on it? (I noticed you placed a copyright symbol on your piece, but if you just sampled the guitar from an already created and recorded tune, that negates your copyright, plus its against the terms of this site).
Or perhaps you legally paid for the sample by contacting the artist's record company and getting permission.
Please understand, it's important to learn about the laws regarding the music industry if you truly want to work in it.
The sample was cleared by the co-producer, Jadon Converse, also known as Beats by Con! I just cleaned it up. I appreciate the heads up though, I have made this mistake a few times before.
The more you comment on tracks by others on Looperman, you'll get comments on your track (and it will move up).
If you haven't already, I'd copy the link to this track and let K19 know that you've created this with his vocals, in the comment section of his acapellas.
I think you did well on this. You didn't want too long to bring in the rap. I'd suggest bringing the background music up a bit more (not too much). All in all, its a good job. The loops you've chosen go well with the energy of his rap.
I'm marking it as a fave.
Hello Wikkid, thank you for your comment.
You're right I should comment more the others track here.
I already did a com on the K19 accepela with the link.
I revised the vocals, resync (in the "chorus" wayy better now), and reduced -2dB.
Thank you very much.
Dude! Man, please, please pretty please go back to "Whispers" and mix it into this track!!
That's your "change" part for the complete song. Sometimes we'd call it a breakdown back in the day, but you just discarded something that should be (in my humble opinion) part of this song.
Okay, consider this a special request from a fan. You've got something special here, and I think the two parts compliment each other.
"We're the one" is the beginning, but "Whispers" is your middle, 'cause there's no groove lost, and then you just go back to the beginning to end the song. Not sure about the "we're the one" as a title for this, but yeah, this is hot.
I don't know why, but this style sorta reminds me of "All the Stars" from the movie Black Panther. Maybe its because I can hear a Sza like vocal over your music. In any event, I really like this.
But . . . :)
I have to agree with Joe Funk though, less auto-tune is your friend. I enjoyed the first vocal chop that went "know you, so I can show you" but there's too much of the "We're the one"
Think of it like seasoning. Just enough and you savor it. Have 'em wanting more, not less.
Still, I was feeling it. Is that you singing on the vocals?
If so, I like you tone on the "know you, so I can show you."
You've did a great job with this. I used the same loop: Cod2Pac- Piano Loops.
Except I really, really like the way you did it better (mine was for a slower alternative song).
I also downloaded this on a hunch. After slowing it down just a bit, it was even funkier, making my shoulders and my neck get funkified. Looping the first part (stopped at about the 19 seconds) had me doing the bus stop, four corners and the bump (I came up in the 70s and I'm also a bass player).
I second everything Danke said.
This is very good, and I'm glad you shared it.
Did you play any of the instruments? I ask because your creation has elements of jazz in addition to rock. It could easily be classified under Chill Out on this site.
Oh, and I loved, loved loved the switch up at about 2:00! So ethereal. Then the drums kicked in, and man, it took me back to my days in a live jam session. I wish you all the best, and I'm marking this as a fave.
Thank you so much, I've always had problems with classifying my own music, chill out makes more sense. I played everything in the song but the drums are made with reason and korg volcabeats for details. Pretty large project, the ending is what its all built around, started with that and a whole lot of jamming later this came to be. Thanks for the kind words.
I'm so sorry to hear of your loss.
I lost my mom a few months ago from cancer (she waged a valiant battle, but in the end, seeing her wither away still gives me nightmares).
I'm slowly working on getting back but shit hurts too bad.
May you find strength and peace.
In the US we have a saying "The Struggle is Real" so I feel you.
Loved the intricate guitar work (great job BB2018) on this and how well the piano flows right along. The bassline is simple but effective.
This is such a lovely, well crafted tune. Great musicianship.
Bravo.
I kinda wished the sparse piano had continued throughout the piece without the orchestra break. Great job with your choice of key and notes for a feeling of melancholy. I did enjoy the descending harp during the full orchestration. Marking this as a fave.
Hi wikkid,
Thanks for listening my tune several times.
As you said, I might have leave sparse piano on the orchestral part for melody consistency. I keep your good advice in my mind. Descending harp were used penta tonic major 6th scale by soundiron Elrysium Harp instrument. So far, I put each midi notes of scales which consumes time. That is good vst instrument includes glissand function. Have a good day!
Sorry, I meant to say that the sax is playing "All is Fair in Love" by Stevie Wonder. It's playing the part that Stevie sings.
"All is Fair in Love" is another well known song, in the R&B genre.
Even though its only 16 seconds, that's an already copyrighted song.
Ok wikkid, I do acknowledge the similarity but its only two chords. I don't seriously think there's any copyright infringement here and I'm relieved that the loop wasn't ripped from a song. Good ear though I do give you that.
I liked it. Your production skills are getting better and better, and the vocals are polished.
I just didn't feel anything, unlike your earlier works. It's great to
expand your musical boundaries, however be careful not to lose the
edge you have with your vocals.
Look I researched George Bensons "Everything Must Change" and I'm at a total loss with your claim. This sounds nothing like it. Its not the same key, its not the same time signature. You had me worried that the loop was cut from an original song!
Heres a link to the song in question. Does anybody else agree with wikkid? Please chime in. I will pull it down in a heart beat, but I'm just not hearing it.
Yowsa! Cab Calloway meets George Benson (guitar) meets Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band. Stellar job making old skol sound nu skol. I can hear this on a US commercial, probably an ad for a luxury car or a soft drink.
I also agree with Silverman about the top notch mixing.
Great job adding in the vocal snippets. Everything clicks together, and the beat compliments this. Good job on choosing the loops.
Definitely marking this as a fave.
Thank you very much for those flattering words, being even compared to those artists is a huge compliment alone. Considering that I made this song in less than a week and only as a gift for a friend that loves electroswing(and I never made this type of music before) I am very satisfied with the feedback so far, so who knows, maybe I will make another similar track soon.
You should feature this track (use the feature option)to get more listeners and someone to do a remix. I downloaded it, but I needed to change some things around and get rid of the glitchy spots.
I'm not hearing Portishead for this, because you veer into cinematic. With respect, you need more than just a vocalist. This requires an arranger/lyricist AND a good vocalist.
Welcome back!
This tune has a lot of potential. You're working things out, and once again, your talent shines, especially your vocals. They're "like buttah." Can't wait to hear the finished track.
I just saw this, so many thanks for the shout out.
I think this one is better, and I enjoyed it. However you still have a tendency to pile on instruments. Some of them work here (like the bass, but then again, I'm biased because I play bass, especially slap bass - back in my day it was called thumping, created by the great bassist Larry Graham).
Watch out for too much repetition - like with the use of the guitar. Funk from back in the day did switch up instruments, but not at the expense of loosing the rhythm/groove. We used the term "stay in the pocket" that's why as the bassist, I had to be in sync with the drummer. We controlled the tempo, and the other musicians followed our lead (for the genres of funk and jazz funk and disco).
Like I said, this is better and I really like it. I see what you're aiming for, and I hope the following two videos will help. You are doing jazz funk, and in order to do it well, you will need to listen to some of the masters at this.
One is Herbie Hancock, and the other is the Crusaders.
Check out how Herbie adds several different instruments in his iconic hit
"Watermelon Man". This tune starts out simple, but its deceptive:
I'd like to add, that to do what you really want to do with your music, you will have to continue to learn an instrument. There's no other way around it. Loops are great, I love using them. But based on your musical ambitions, you may find them limiting. I wish you all the best.
Long as you stay true to yourself (you do you), I think you will reach your musical goal.
Thanks for your wisdom and sharing these 2 pieces of absolutely amazing music with me. My mind is completely blown, and if I live a 1000 years, I don't think I could come up with anything that comes near to this. Right now, I've just got too much on my plate. Work, and especially family pose some huge challenges on me, and so music offers a quick sweet escape. So I'll probably continue to drive you and the others here batty with my mashed together loops and tinkering, never living up to any potential. Maybe a few years down the road when life starts slowing down, I'll delve deeper.
This is a lovely, powerful piece. I saw your forum question regarding creating a unique sound. Keep creating music, and in time, the answer will come to you. I wish you all the best.
Ever heard of Ennio Morricone? He composed many of the songs for Italian director Sergio Marone.
That's who this now reminds me of. Cutting edge, alternative sounding,
not pop, ready from prime time. These drums work, and you're hearing the payoff. Great job. I've marked this as a fave. BRAVO.
Had to google him. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, maybe my favorite movie music ever. The movie was worth watching just for the music. Thanks for mentioning me in the same breath! He seems to combine classical with pop music in a good way.
Okay, I hope you take this with the spirit in which it's being given. I agree with Cru and Danke. The guitar is in a different time signature than the drums. The piano comes in, but it strikes me as a cool sequencer piece, where technology, and not someone playing manually, has been inserted.
That's not to say that this body of work isn't creative. Let me also say, that I commend you for having the courage to upload your work in progress (I'd suggest since this isn't royalty free, then you may want to change it to no downloads).
Sometimes stepping away and coming back to a piece can give a fresh perspective. I wish you all the best. May I also ask, what style of music has your heart? What genre is your passion when you create?
You ask which genre is my passion when I create? Clear your cached files and I'll show you my genre! :) J/k that line is just a tip of the hat to an old friend of mine. You were right about the drums, sometimes you have to kill your darlings to move forward.
