I was just wondering about modest tweeks. One thought is less reverb on the vocal and maybe a little too much limiting on the overall master???????????. What did you use to master it?
SeriouslyJoking
SeriouslyJoking replied 11th Sep 2013 - 12 years ago
OK - yeah, I tend to overly use the reverb on the vocals. And I used A LOT of some kind of limiting (with EQ somehow..) on the both drumloops.
It's mastered only in FL 10 so there is a lot to do I guess, to get it right.
I'm really in the beginning here in every way, trying to learn how to use that DAW. And I should get some other mastering...stuff to make the mastering in. Gaaah - my English - sorry it's hard to explain! =)

Tremendous work you made incorporating these vocals so well into a very uncommon and interesting instrumental !
I like it a lot, it's so unusual !
Bravooo !

Thank you for listening!
I'm so glad you actually liked it.
The vocal was really a challenge and still it doesn't really fit perfectly everywhere. I should probably have listened to the original track before I began to create my own version of it...

Hello ....

"my own ears feel very unreliable" ?

Honestly I do not think, because, what you have produced here is very original: Instrumentation, Rhythmic, integration of voice ..... and effects.
In summary, it's unexpected, pleasant to listen to, a good concept.

Your ears are still good ....

Oh, thank you Dan!!
But I'm really beginning to wonder about my musical perception...maybe it's too odd.

Well, it's a comfort to know that you got out something worth listening to from this anyway.
Take care!

Reminds me of the chord changes of the ATB tune Your not alone. very eclectic work from you! And I see your developing your FL piano style. 2:58 is not out of tune per say but just in the wrong key. Has potential though!

Hello Steve!
I loved that ATB tune and the Olive version even more! Just listened to it after so many years when I saw your comment. Thanks for bringing all these epic old tunes back to my ears!

Oh, so it's the wrong key at 2:58! I'll look in to that, that part really gave me some headaches...maybe I'll removed it alltogether.
Thank you Steve for listening and giving advice!!
Have a nice day over there.

Oh Yeh Kate Bush anyone???????

SeriouslyJoking replied 10th Sep 2013 - 12 years ago
She sounds a lot like Kate Bush now that you mention it. I was looking for a link to her webpage so you could listen to her some more and discovered that she really is going places already:http://www.devynrose.com/

WOW I just LOVED THIS SONG. Some tweeking in the mastering???
SeriouslyJoking
SeriouslyJoking replied 10th Sep 2013 - 12 years ago
REALLY?!
You just made my day - Thank you!!
I wasn't sure of anything anymore, is it really bad or what's wrong with it, people are listening and noone is commenting. And I still loved the song myself - a very strange situation. Lol

Do you mean that it needs tweeking or if there is tweeking already? Well - my answer is that I tried to master it and used some effects which sort of worked...not so good. So will have to continue mastering and even remixing a bit later on.

You have a good one going SJ...really like the piano rhythm that carries it along...agree with those who mentioned it could have been longer.....short and sweet...but enjoyable...well done...Ed

Most interesting chord structures in the first 45 seconds, then I agree with Danke the tune lifts off at the :45 mark. love the bass and the chords and the vox here. With your permission I might want to tinker with this one as I have an idea for a drum sound that will kick this tune even higher, what is the B.P.M.?

Hi Steve - please do!
The bpm is 84 (but I originally went down from 130bpm somehow...nothing really worked and this is what was left of it.)
I can do a version without drums also if it helps.

Thanks!

Oh, really - you think? =D
Well, lets see if I ever get to finish it because I usually tend not to...I'm really lazy that way, the melody gets boring and I start to dislike the hole track.

But thanks Danke! Glad you liked it!

Hi Dan!
I would love to have a piano like the one in your avatar to play on but no, I made it all in FL...haha.
Feels like cheeting. Well, it IS cheeting. Anyway - thanks!

Haha, I hear you make strange music too! What you got here is not failure, some parts sound interesting. Sometimes the synths get to be a little too much in my own opinion. Thats the only thing I can notice that loses me at parts while listening. Some dance rap fuse. Keep going! Peace.

SeriouslyJoking replied 3rd Sep 2013 - 12 years ago
Yes, I always end up doing really odd songs...this one is not even in a familiar genre so it's probably even worse than a little strange this time. Lol

Thanks for listening and for the review, noted about the synths.

It's interesting, and you are right the vocals do fit, I would like to see a kick-ass beat (maybe syncopated?) over the jangly synths and piano stabs. Keep at it your on to something here.

Finally a comment!! Thank you Steve! =D
The drums are always really tricky for me, I almost never manage to make my own drums, it just doesn't work. So I'm going to seek some other drumloops to fit in then.

Maybe some changes in the melody also, it gets really boring after a short listen...

(Or then I'll leave this as it is - it's just one of those failures. Nobody is commenting which means it's probably no good. Ha ha ...moving on...)
Thank YOU for listening and commenting!

Well ''S.J'' before listening I knew would enjoy your musica elegant as usual & I enjoyed too . track was groovY & a cool & elegance dancing vibe , colleague Stephanie sings professional & it had made a perfecT package beside your instrumental track , just maybe I'm wrong buT if U take a carefull listening to the seconds 2: 07 to 2: 12 , maybe U can underestand whaT I mean about a little issue in which two loops make a dissonance interval for awhile seems those are not in one scale or pitch .
althoughT U know there's no confidence to my ears & musical knowledge ''S.J '' .
best wishes.______B

Hi Behnam!
I actually did that adaption with the vocals you were demonstrating for me earlier - but the stems ended up too close in pitch for the most part...Have to give it a new try!

Thanks for listening and I hope all is well with you!

Yes I Think I have to rest my ears from this one and come back later. It's strange how a song changes over time if you don't hear it for a while...

This is seriously good - great dance track. The piano is awesome - I think the track stands up even without the vocals which work well for the most part.

I think I'm going to upload a version without the vocals on Soundcloud after reworking the song a bit.

It's always interesting hearing a track you have had a try at yourself. I love the sound of Stephanie's vocal and you've done a fantastic job with this. Really interesting arrangement and so very different from my own interpretation. Great job. Love it!

SeriouslyJoking replied 23rd Aug 2013 - 12 years ago
Oh, I'm listening to your interpretation right now!
...

Really, this is kind of embarrassing - that's the way the vocals are supposed to sound, my way is just wrong! Hahaha!
I need to remix this one I guess, and have a second go with it. I got the timing all wrong.

Well, I'm glad you liked it anyway and thank you for the review!

great job on this, tbh though i think i would prefer it without the vocals, but that's just personal preference as there is nothing wrong with them.
SeriouslyJoking
SeriouslyJoking replied 23rd Aug 2013 - 12 years ago
I couldn't get the vocals right in this one, they really don't fit to the tempo. And I kind of prefer the song without the vocals myself, maybe I should just have them in the chorus or something...have to think about that.
Thanks for listening, Dave!
