I couldn't get through the whole thing, and by that I mean every ten seconds or so, I'd back up because there was something I just had to hear again.. On the third pass I was able to just take it all in. There were a few instances where the bass line seemed to be slightly off cue. to be specific at @:58 to 1:08 the bass seems a few milliseconds early to the Percussion's groove, and it falls back in groove seamlessly at 1:08. same at 3:01, and at 3:37 back in perfect swing. Also at that point there seems to be a homage to Jethro Tull without borrowing a single note or phrase, and that is something That I've only heard Charlie Parker do.
Hi Toby, thanks for pointing that out! I will get in deep and amend this bass/drum mismatch. It could be a frequency class with the baritone sax ( which I am also investigating ).
Thank your honesty, as I said these songs need to be awesome and the only way to achieve this is by listening to others and tweaking accordingly.
I love this. Definiotely a fav amongst my favs. When I die, will you guys be playing for me in heaven (not that I want to speed up your demise or anything like that :-))
Man this is one massive piece, so full of energy, brilliant arrangemnt/panning in this piece, very catchy funky piece, dont really know what else to say here that others have not said, totally mind blowing work...massive massive fav man...Peace n Respect dude...Estefano...
damn, this track is great. The melody is splendid, dynamic and mix are all in place and well if you ask me. Totally loving it. This makes me wanna come to Edinburgh. amazing production, imo this is how real music should sound like. No tips from me on this, the vibe is outstanding-it almost sketches a picture in front of you while listening. A rather interesting setup as well. This is a very appealing piece of music all in all-has a bit of everything you need in there, a bit of Henry hall, bit of Apollo 440, nice sax lines and I could probably come up with more -real splendid.
I'm glad your liking it. This one track is on it's eighth remix to get it to this stage so far. I have listened carefully to what has been said and changed bits and rerecorded guitars etc..
I think it's about there now. So I'm going to let it breath and see what else is said. I am happy you are enjoying where it has evolved to.
loved the Phased drums, they totally caught me off guard. It never once felt off groove, never gets monotonous, and like AllenV said, the the use of panning in the creation of a large sonic space was visceral. I wasn't Just listening, I was engaged.
It is getting better and better! The saxwork is mindblowing both of you and your son's and I have worked with many saxplayers!
If you ever need a remix of one of your tracks just let me know.
Cheers
Paul
Lets make a deal! You play me some sax parts in the songs that I send you and I will make you some remixes, we all benefit! And it's fun!
Diggin this one Steve!....Man I think you've got new strings on that bass of yours, there's a great high end chime coming through on top of the growl....Super track,I don't know if it's the track description and I'm politically hallucinating but there's this African tenure running through it,got to be the poly rhythms maybe....I'll leave other people to comment on the mix,I just dig what's going on..this is way progressive,it's like a chemical reaction..it's on fire! lol..bloody creative groove that makes you want to invest in a pork pie hat factory......many of the great musical styles have come out of the UK..dare I say this is one more!...cheers Dave :)
Hi Dave, I just called it that because of what's going down in north Africa. I'm mean't to be going to Morocco at Easter lol... We might be embraced or stoned, who knows. I'm glad you enjoyed the track, it's not quite finished though. I need to add a few things to make it complete. The main thing is to let the thing breath, sit on looperman and let people comment. I keep coming back to it and if I hear something to add or take out I will do it, if and when I don't by my April deadline, it stays as it is and is committed to the final cd track list and pressed. Exciting times working towards this deadline. I thank you for your continuing support and friendship..
What a brilliant piece of work, heard a lot of collabs you have done with AllenV and Spelljammer, always amazed at your brilliance with the Sax, man this is no exception, excellent clarity and arrangement, nice layed back beat, very funky piece indeed, throughly enjoyed the listen to this one, massive fav Slap, excellent work....Peace n Respect...Estefano....
Hi Esefano, Wow thanks for the compliments on this track and the Spelljammer ones, most appreciated indeed. I will have to drop by and review some of your work soon.
What a GREAT track Slap! I have to enjoy tha epicness
of this song... luv those drums, arrangement was slick and
tha melodies so smooth, tha entire song flows like water!
Luv that effect on tha drums, and your son is obviously
as talented on tha axe as you are! Funky little bassline to
keep me grooving, and that guitar was well done!
Wonderful little piece and a AWESOME WAY TO START
ME MORNING!
This music has a fiery force. I've seen that is not yet finished. There are several moments in which I think would look good choirs (as in Pennsylvania 65000 or a voice like One Step Beyond). It's a touch that I have sent my brain, but I think also the theme song it deserves.
Hi Vicen, That's a valed point! A vocal hook is a cool idea and I thank you for your input. It's a pity one step beyond has been used lol... Awesome sax track, and it was that very song that made want to start playing..
Excellent sax playing on this track. I'm not at all into jazz but I kept seeing you everywhere on the site, so I figured I check out a song of yours. You are very talented. Great work on this. Really love the song, it's so soothing.
Mix is great Slap, the panning of the instruments really opens it all up, kudos for that. It's something that I'm working on to make my tracks sound better as well. The musicianship is top notch, we all have come to expect that from you guys so that is no surprise. I wish you the best of luck on the album, this is a good indication it will be a hit!
Hi Wayne, I'm pleased you like the mix as it's one of those things you could just keep fiddling with and loose the plot completely. I have 12 other songs in various stages of production, so new ones should becoming soon.
Thanks for dropping by.
Hi, Slap.each time I see your name I know that is going to good and after listening and do not want to stop. Thank you Lord to give us such a talented Johnson. God bless you
Hi Kgomotso, kind words indeed and I thank you for them.
I'm pleased you like the track, they will be 12 more coming soon. Also thank you for the reviews on some of my loops.
I love this track great saxwork! Commends,.... I miss a strong powerful bassguitar it misses the right feel, hope I dont offend you by saying that, but the bass is really important in this kind of music. Also I would love to hear a wah guitar, I can record one for you of you like, that will sure make it funkier.
Hi Paul, I know what your saying about the bass and the wah guitar, I will most probably add both myself time permitting. I value your opinion as I greatly admire your playing and production skills, so I'm pleased you came straight out with your verdict.. Funky wah guitar now added Paul, thanks for the suggestion...
This is some smooth jazz! Those vocals and the horns compliment eachother so nicely! The guitar really adds a lot to this track! Great mix! Classic stuff!
nice ...am digging on that bass guitar brother....I love how pro your sound is...very very kool... I have no critic ... just great enjoyed every last minute of it ...keep 'em coming brother
had to edit it because it read I was digging the "ass" guitar... an that clearly is wrong on so many levels!!

The name of this is so appropriate. Your one of the artists where you can close your eyes and just drift into relaxation. A sort of hypnotized trance where all the troubles you have just slowly fade! It makes me feel weightless!
Before I didn't think that much too jazz/sax music but now I am wanting to produce my own. To change someones views through music is very hard to do and you do it almost effortlessly!
Thankyou for sharing your hard work with the world. A real pleasure to listen to :)!
