I appreciate your checking it out Billionz. Definitely in a raw state. Looking for sounds, variety, trying to dip my toes in a new genre. so any input is much appreciated.
great job dan. weird? mabe. sounds like electronic. reminds me a little like Jean michele Jerre. there used to be in the 80's a genre called new age. this is great stuff.
Yea - I think I could start just going with electronic I agree. I remember new age but that was a little less 'weird' and more about ambience, possibly a kind of 'therapeutic' genre also. Glad you liked this buddy. Thanks.
You gotta be about the most..to hell with convention...creative guy on the loop Dan..I`m glad you are not paying much attention to genres..they are totally unhelpful in the creative process unless you are trying to conform to something thats been done before.....I like the freedom of the cinematic genre...good excuse to play to whatever picture is in the mind...very creative..abstract...quite unusual....well done, much respect to you....Ed
Hey Ed. Well I always joke that I was sleeping during theory class so had to invent my own system when I started writing. But yea - I don't try to tie in with genre for most part. Having said that, I am thinking about a few steps back for next track into something more conventional with more emphasis on sweet sounds, blends, and listener's experience. Thanks very much for awesome comment. Regards - Dan
Another awesome track midisparks! The atmosphere you have created here is great. And it does remind me of flying drones too. I'm glad to see you are still creating these intriguing tracks. Truly nice work.
Hey Shatner - glad you had a chance to check this. There were quite a few 'personalities' to manage in this track but I was pretty happy with the result. Irony is that with less one can sometimes do more and I think I may back off to fewer voices, ideas, etc., and more emphasis on the ultimate sonic experience for the user. Looking forward to checking out your latest. Regards - Dan
Yea, you got it right. The idea is to model some music for abstract art and hopefully motivate some interest in current Winter Contest on the site.
I guess this piece is avant garde. I always joke that I was half asleep every morning in music theory class so now, when I want to compose, I have to make up my own systems! Well - despite my bad behavior in music school there is a lot of classical influence.
anyway - I'm very happy you had a chance to check this one out and thank you for the comment.
Thanks for checking it out Jamid. I liked the idea of a strong statement at the very outset before getting into the groove of it. Thanks for responding to my message also! Talk to you later. Dan
Whats good Dan! Cool stuff going on in this track...a lot of nice elements...your very creative like "Spivkurl"...it would be so Kool to see you guys do a Collab...also I think you would be good at doing some Cinematic stuff.....Anyway keep creating and stay original.
hey jody! yea - spiv and i are buds and he has contributed some loops to a few of my tracks. can't say a true collab cause he was just giving me something for my concept as opposed to a joint concept but anyway. . . I am glad you found something interesting in this. There is a new mix posted and one more probably in the morning then onward and upward. thanks very much for visiting. Dan
Hey Dan, this is amazing. I tried reaching over at the midisparks website but it said email was invalid...wasn't sure if it meant mine or yours. I hope you got it anyway, if not shoot me directly at goldenhaben@gmail.com so we can chat about why i reached out!
Hey golden h. I'm away from home and can't see my website email on mobile. I will check tomorrow at home and get back to you tomorrow as well. Happy Holidays. Dan
I think someone added a little something to the fruitcake! The pic definitely reminds me of the the three kings story, and that looks like an abstract baby in the red at the bottom. What kind of gifts were they bringing anyway?! Merry Christmas Dan :D
I don't know FSOL but will check it out. The 'weird' genre is a catch-all, of course, but it seems to be mine more often than not. Appreciate your stopping by. Later. Dan
i'm scared of those drones, but gotta get over that. yea - i'm hoping to expand this, refine a bit more. glad you were liking it though. appreciate it very much. regards.
Hi, Kinmadi. I am famous for writing music that sounds like it belongs in video games. I have speculated that it is partly that I am about 30 years behind with the synths and the electronic production techniques, so my music is unavoidably old school sounding. But at the same time I have this music conservatory background so I write this inscrutable esoteric stuff that does sometimes manage to sound original. I am glad you liked it kingmadi. Thanks very much for the comment. Dan
I am not sure what the morphing is but I'm glad you liked it, Michael. I will hopefully continue to refine this one, to expand it, balance it out musically. I was in a hurry to have something 'finished' to share out. Great to have you stop by. Later. Dan
This is an enjoyable experiment! I've been experimenting with more ambient things as well lately... just trying to get free I guess. There are a lot of barriers to artistic fulfillment, and the decision has to be made. Very happy to hear you still breaking through barriers, and it is especially evident with songs like this. I'm looking forward to hearing you take this further! Fave!
Thank you for the Fave! Much appreciated. I was dead set on understanding sampling in FL Studio better and I think I got a bit further down the road with that goal in this project. I hope I can scrub this one, but who knows. The demands of online promotion compete with creative work. Hard to strike the balance. Thanks for the positive feedback Pat.
Hey Burt thanks. yea - I'm gonna keep working to expand this for sure. I am doing a short video with the art that inspires this, hence the short version for now.
sounds like a great idea but I will leave genre 'covers' to guys that know what they are doing like you. as for me - i will just keep taking the drugs and hope for the best with these tracks! best regards. Dan
I like the quirky nature of this track, works well as background audio for the video. I have noticed Pete Jon Tebar also had a track used for one of your art projects here a while back. How are you associated with the art works if you dont mind my asking?
Thanks Neomorpheus for checking this out with the video. I discover the art online and ask artists for permission to promote their work with music on my website. I have sold a few prints this way for the artists. I am trying to get more composers involved in writing music for the art and selling the art. It is a way for composers to use their music as part of a business - at least that is the idea! Regards - Dan
Hi, mindhiest. Glad you like it. These shorts are meant to accompany the viewing of art - to give a bit of audio commentary on the visual. Sometimes I take these further. This one I may not. Thanks for commenting. Dan
I seem to remember hearing this before, possibly it is one which you sent me in an earlier incarnation? Either way it sounds very nice this morning! My head is all on magnetic tape recently, and I can imagine something like this being painstakingly constructed by splicing tape fragments. I know that's not how it was done, but it suggests that style to me. I think that Mosaic is possibly not used to hearing chromatic work like this, leading to his comment about the tuning... though I could be wrong. Very fun to hear!
this version was developed further in a track called Whole Tone Haunt. There may be some issues with this one that Mosaic was picking up on or it may be as you say about the ear not being fully used to the dissonance created with the whole tone scale. thanks man.
truely haunting sounds, i felt as if id come to the end of my road too drunk to struggle on, nowhere to go anyway, i see where igors coming from.
nice work and overall production.
i begin to understand where igor is coming from also. Yea - maybe some backwoods dudes on the porch drunk and strummin' Something strange, mystical is taking over. Thanks buddy.
I love the intro you made, and then you bring in Burton´s dirty swamp guitar, except you cleaned it up in the mix. Needless to say, it´s a great mix. 4:02 we get a hint again with the creepy opera sounds. truly haunting and cool evil chorus ending. nice job on this remix.
Cru
i am glad that you noticed that hint at 4:02, Cru. you know very well as an excellent composer that it can be an effective technique - to bring back just a taste of something that came before. thanks buddy
Mate wow oh bloody wow...stumped me for words...spotted this one after I had reviewed another for you...I'm just going to leave it as stunning work by everyone involved...my most fav track I think of yours yet...massive fav Dan...Peace n much much respect...mosaic...
thanks mosaic. I had some luck picking the patches out of Harmless synth and Burt already had a cool 'monk chorus' hit. Glad this one gave you the ghostly moment. Thanks again for checking it out.
Hey matey, liking the simplicity of this piece, not sure if you meant to do it or not one piano or midi sounds slightly out of key right, still works though, short but enjoyable mate...fav...Peace n Respect...mosaic...

A flying drone.
Loving the creativity in this one midisparks, overall a nice and creative track.
I can see the flying drone also. A lot of drones in the track of course. The little character 'hits' could be aspects of the drone's 'personality'.
Thanks for the comment and checking out the track. Look forward to hearing something of yours very soon.
