YO yo !
well, I took you on a journey through the OMNIVERSE ...
you take me on a trip through the desert on a camel..
I thank you that there are no gunshots or bombings.
It sounds peacefull...
good job !
thanks! actually I was thinking about explosive effects and backed away from it - maybe for the same reasons you are glad you did not hear any. thanks for "taking the ride". appreciate it. Dan
Mind opening and very creative. Listening again for more perspective. Sort of chimes in the beginning give you a sense of hiding in a hut. from the enemy. With your sinister melodic lines and percussion. Cool Clarinet sound. Which is mimicked by the guitars later. Good work overall.
Steve
thanks Steve. that clarinet is actually a shanai sample from old yamaha midi keyboard gradually run through a chorus effect. i'm glad you liked that. really glad you had a chance to check this one out. look forward to connecting again with your stuff. regards - Dan
Really nice cinematic effort Dan. Great use of percussion to move the track along from one stage to another. There isn't anything to really critique here....the mix is spot on, the composition is solid, and the execution is outstanding.
You really do have a gift for composing great music. Keep it up man, we need more music like yours in this world. Well done. I hope all is well.
appreciate it very much Bear. all is well. won't let the day job break me and won't give up the dream. I felt I got to a little better place with the percs on this one. your thumbs up on that was a big boost. all the best. Dan
Greetings. This has the kind of vibe I like. I do love all sorts of eastern sounds.
1:28 and the guitar riff reminds me a little of Tool. If you don't know that legendary, very special band, I suggest you check them out. Try a track called 46&2.
Main riff in this is a compelling one and you work it well throughout on different instruments. Clanging percussion is good and then that's joined by other metallic grooves.
Good music to soundtrack a Mongolian landscape.
Special link in case you've never heard my favourite Tuvan throat singing group, who have something in common with this track. Just listen to the first piece of music in this performance and I expect you'll be blown away.
I also checked out Promenade's track and I think it's great. Can't help but say I prefer it to yours as he's done more with that main riff. And I love the groove he used.
yea - the throat singing is amazing. a lot of overtones. then the modality and the rhythmic feel is so fresh. damn - that tool track is awesome. feel like shuttin in with tool now for like the next week. as far as use of riff in Promenade's track - what can I say - the music finds its home in spite of us! LOL.
G-d willing i will continue to refine and expand this little track for another week or so before moving on. the notion of a mongolian landscape is super helpful because i will be looking for art to go with this on the Audio Sparks website.
wow! you were not kidding open different possibilities. that was an unexpected application in your track - but VERY NICE! thanks for finding a home for part of it.
if you don't mind - I have a pair of chill cat paintings that I would like to use that track with. I have a website where I match original audio with contemporary paintings. Here are the cats: http://www.audiosparksforart.com/art-wants-music/
a very enjoyable music so far... quite simple motifs that could be developed into something more, the simplicity opens a doorway to different possibilities... but still nice music as it is now...
Alex
yea. amazing how hard it is sometimes even to put a few simple motives down in a good way. but yea - hoping to move into a second section now (after a break). thanks for checking it out, Alex, and positive words. Dan
I am enjoying the sense of urgency that this track creates especially from 0.45
Just a thought, maybe add in thunderous orchestral drums from 1.30 to create a sense of war/battlefield environment, should go well with the distorted guitars.
I really like all the melodic stuff going round in circles.
It reminds me of the american minimal-music composers.
Also the sounds you used have some kind of a tribal quality.
Nice work!
thanks so much promenade. i did not even think about the connection to circles. i try to connect music to art so now you have given me another aspect which might serve that connection. thank you!
So, I could of swore I reviewed this one. Anyways, quality ambient track here midis. Love the synth at the end. I feel like I'm a moon man or something. Very good production, peace
thanks Gramo. it is challenging trying to blend into somebody else's mix but I made some progress. glad it put you on the moon for a minute. thanks again. Dan
Very atmospheric piece, solemn but lonely. Very nice choice of sounds and the track developed nicely. Only criticism is that the track ended rather abruptly, but other than that, this is a quality piece of ambient. Good work.
thanks very much. yes - it needs to keep going. i was hoping this was gonna be a collab but I never heard back and moved on to other things. Maybe I will buckle down and develop this one. I appreciate the feedback very much. Dan
thanks for checking it out. I was happy to put a few touches on this one at the end but it is really skylawker concept and creation. I like it for the same reasons as you. also a bittersweet kind of mood in the melody. peace.
I like this much, and I can definitely feel the vibe of the picture you linked to! The different instruments has some cool dynamics to them. I did notice around 2:25 or so, there was some distortion somewhere in there... don't think it was my system any way. Doesn't seem like it's in the last step, but somewhere earlier in the signal chain. Correct me if I'm wrong... :) I enjoyed listening thoroughly though! Fave!
Pat - i think you are right. the log drums need a little more balancing at the end. gonna touch on that this morning. I have an artist who wants to show on the site with this end part of the track so it is good luck for me that you picked up on the EQ issue. really appreciate. look for a message from me over on facebook on something else vis a vis the site. regards - Dan
Wow very unique and well done . It is great to hear something you have never heard before and i really appreciate the brilliant sounds you put together.
thanks very much. sometimes it takes a little time, and a little time away, to coax the sounds and the mix along. I think we are starting to win though. really appreciate your stopping by. peace.
thanks very shatner. really enjoyed discovering the FL Studio plucked instrument with this one. i think the distinction between velocity and volume really hit home as I refined that sound. still trying to get the mix warmer and somewhat hotter on this one, but as you know - at some point we call it a day and move on cause you can't master the process in one track anyway. peace brother.
Wow! This has really come along. I honestly can say I can't recognize it from the 1 minute or so piece you originally posted. The one thing I do recall is the reverb you had on that you mention was removed. That part I would of noticed, it has so much more punch now. It showcases the lines so much better.
The piece is very complex. The solo, not sure what it is, sounds great. The drum pads that start after the break at 1:43 sound excellent on my headphones.
I did notice the long tag at the end. Not sure if that was on purpose or not :/
You combined some great sounds. Amazing to see this piece come alive. Great work!
RW
i'm really glad you stopped by to check out progress on this my friend. i did attempt to clarify the lines per your feedback. seem to be heading in a good direction now. peace.
As others have pointed out this is like the intro to something bigger. I could see you adding so much on top of this to make it incredibly complex (my musician brain) But what a nice idea you have spawned. keep at it my friend.
cru
thanks crucethus. that has been part of the struggle with this one. all the options. but starting to make some decisions and some choices and get organized. thanks very much for great comment and stay tuned. regards - Dan
I like the beginning instrument you selected. It has a very exotic sound, which reminds me of a rain forest. I like the overall concept, but I feel that some sounds get in the way of other. I like them all, it's just if the synth was turned down a bit and perhaps pan it to one side of the speakers? It just feels like they're all competing with one another instead of working together (this is how my mind works)
The ending was interesting, reminds me of China somehow. I think of the rice fields on an early dewy morning while Samurai get ready for a fresh strart... I dunno how this relates but I like it.
hey OViea! that is beautiful imagery and it works for me. if you are interested check out the link to the picture and see if it speaks to you. maybe, maybe not! i am starting to refine this one. I agree with your honest feedback - was helpful - I think I am addressing some of the issues you mention. hope so. thanks again. peace. Dan
Nice mellow piece, It has kind of an oriental feel to it and i see you've found the FL plucked machine. I like the tribal feel to it and the mix quality is on point. I like the panning effects as well. You are definitely getting better at this Dan.
Well done!
FR
thanks for keeping up with this one, Free. have added a harmor sound now at the beginning. actually the concept now is going from the mellow feel at beginning to something harder and building to an ending. i guess on a basic level mix is working out. have not done anything yet with reverb or fine tuning EQ etc. and there is something irritating at the top of that harmor sound which I need to reduce. thanks again. peace.
Well, it sounds great. but it definitely sounds like the start of or section of a bigger piece. Which is probably pointing out the obvious since you've named it in progress.
My suggestions, Danke had a good idea with slowing the tempo down. If you did that, I can imagine a Chillwave type of track taking shape. You can build the whole track around the main riff you have going. Drop in pieces here and there along the way.
About the main synth line. I would try taking the echo or reverb off it and see how it sounds. Maybe you already tried it, idk. But I'd be curious to hear how it sounded dry. It might leave more space open for other sounds. Does that make sense?
Just a couple ideas to consider as you try and flesh this out. You have the basis of a really cool track. Good luck with it!
took out reverb entirely for (except what is natural to that pluck sound - more in some octaves than others). sort of fleshed out first section. have a second section groove but need something on top of. then imagine a recap. thanks for checking in and helpful feedback. very much appreciated.
Yeah, good, progressive one...after those intro jam I would slow it down to the half bpm tempo and get some guitar riff (could be acoustic one) than get back to your theme from 0.52 (could be the chorus)...
I know that you aren't a composer who works with structures but this is my only 'chartish' attitude...:-)
really helped me to think about a form for this one. fleshed out opening a bit (still raw) and have a groove going for a second section. then will recap somehow - maybe more intense. thanks very much for feedback. big appreciation. Dan
thanks for checking in soundhound. yea - kind of addicted to these sounds and note combos. have pushed a long a little more in the last week or so. thanks again very much. Dan
yea - it is gravitating towards that new age/world feel. second section now takes it somewhere a little different and might go for more powerful ending somehow. thanks for checking in. really appreciate it. Dan
Cool track very laid back, with lots of interesting things going on....
What I was missing was something to, join it all together....Maybe
I missed it, if it was there...
hey soundhound. no - it may not be there yet you are right. but transition has smoothed out some. probably still some elements needed to fill this one out. thanks for insights. really appreciate.
