It seems to me that a new genre of space music should already be introduced

I just watched 2001 A Space Odyssey, maybe that influenced me! It's a very slow movie...

Fantastic piece of music again ...
if they haven't told you yet, you are an undiscovered original talent ... you create outstanding in every style, as here ... this kind of slightly rock (because of the drums) ambient is one of my favorite styles ... I used to make many tracks like this, but then I knew there were much better ones, so I deleted the songs (fortunately)... :-)
hats off bro cause of this journey ... unbelievable ...
fistbump,
Danke

Hey Danke, thanks a lot, means a lot, as always. I hear some ambient pedigree in some of your tracks (for example the Daydreamer one you have up at the moment). I enjoy pretty much everything you put up on this site, so I bet your attempts at rock/ambient were probably very good. All the best, Zoot.

Ok Chris! This is personal. What I just listened to here is a subline, sonic feast of texture and tones. The power plant of the track is definately the solid drum work. I wouldnt attempt to guess which direction this would go in with an collab, but the framework is firmly in place. This is artistry in effect that must be faved even at this early stage. Thanks for sharing the creativity Chris. Peace.

Hi Mark, thanks so much for listening (and the fav!). I have to humbly state that the drums were only slightly edited grooves off of Steven Slate SSD (free version). So I can't take much credit there. I was pleased with the texture/tone etc. of the pads I made though. Those involved at least 6 layers of synth with (gosh) some automation of filters/volume and various saturation/distortion plug ins. Some of the synth stems were run back through guitar rig too. As for the colab, well, what I would love would be for a real drummer to go to town on it with some chill but more evolving percussion. Not much chance of that though...

really clever work mate the drum track is fire, the synth work is top notch and the prolonged repetitiveness of the drone just seamlessly blended in with everything else nice fx and cool fresh mix. that's what i love about this place, the variety and versatility of everyone and the chance to collab. i never ever expected to collab with Danke but i did and and its done great so hope you get the collab you requested, you and Stokesy would come up with something mind blowing i think, just a thought though

That's right man, I'm a musical slut and listening to what people are doing on this site feeds into that - you end up listening to things you probably wouldn't ordinarily. And often it's inspiring, even if, on the surface, what you produce doesn't reflect what you've been listening too, I think somehow things influence you anyway. Always appreciate you listening and your comments. Cheers Chris

This is a beautiful condition, musically excellently implemented. Great concept. I have a friend who tries to add drums to ambient sounds like this and he actually keeps failing... he can't get the two to relate to each other. However, I hear that it works wonderfully for you. Chris, that was a great listening experience. Greetings down under.

Many thanks Micky, you started this journey with your reference to Terry Riley. I'll have to get off the bus sometime I guess but its fun at the moment. All good here Down Under, and you too Up Over.

drone and harmonics beautiful and then it’s mindblowing, my friend. this is an amygdala hijack. i’m getting 30 mins of total bliss before sunrise. inspired. btw i covered that swinging speaker bit, alvin lucier i think it was. i love 50s 60s ‘classical’ bonkers stuff. man oh man this is great

Zootman replied 5th Dec 2023 - 2 years ago
Damn you did it again, used words I had to google (and I pride myself on my vocabulary, though you might not know it on here since I'm usually tapping on my phone when I reply to comments). I just had a look at Avin Lucier too, pretty interesting eh. I quite like the scientificness of what he was doing. Don't think scientificness is a word.

Central to Young’s work is the concept of “stasis,” as opposed to “Fluxus.” “Change or flux is inevitable,” Young wrote. “Stasis, or remaining the same, is impossible. Therefore, to achieve the static state is the goal, while the state of flux, variation, or contrast, is unavoidable and thus unnecessary as a goal.”

I loved that. That's really, really good!

Hi BB, thanks for the listen! That quote is crazy, it kind of turns things on its head, makes you stop and think about the nature of reality, like a Zen koan. I did cheat a little (i.e. the bass line and a small bit of synth use extra notes), but the drone/pad thing is just the two notes. All the saturation and distortion I added brought out a bunch of evolving harmonics which I thought sounded pretty cool. I was going to call it 'Look Mom No Hands' since it didn't take many....

it’s odd i don’t have an earlier comment here cuz i remember my elation at hearing Tutu articulate the rage i have with people who claim not to take sides in struggles taking place everywhere on earth on so many levels i wonder if anything is untouched sometimes. Tutu’s words make me feel grounded and deepen my humanism. your setting makes me feel embolded to remain plugged in, if for nothing else to bear my own witness and carry that into the struggle at my level. if that makes any sense. i’ll just point people in the direction of track for a more powerful elucidation! ace work, this is impactful music.
Zootman
Zootman replied 27th Nov 2023 - 2 years ago
You make perfect sense my friend as always. I guess I was being slightly ingenuous with the description, since Tutu's words actually are a call to arms! I spent about 6 months working with Palestinians on the West Bank in the early 90's, on a date plantation and picking flowers among other things. And I think my kiwi sense of equality, egalitarianism and support of the underdog meant I had a lot of sympathy for the Palestinians. They are a warm and very hospitable people. But what future is there for them under the current regime? People talk of the two state solution but Israel has effectively sabotaged any hope of that with their illegal settlements in the West Bank. Anyway, I could go on. Cheers Zoot.

It's painful that Tutu's words are still relevant and will probably also be relevant 50 years from now.

Cheers man. This is an early one but a personal favourite. Got my wife on the mic, nutting off and not at me for a change lol. I've been off the loop so haven't checked your latest sorry, nor come up with stems to send you. Because we're away at the moment, at a big family reunion plus works got insane. The joys of being self employed, you don't want to turn down work! I'll get there sometime...

Hey Chris, this is a nice track that has a slightly lost atmosphere. But it also breathes a lot of space, which somehow reminds me of a David Lynch film. Perhaps impressions of your homeland also play into the music. Anyway, it was worth finishing the track... very nice work.
Cheers,

Those drums are just delicious and work so well woth the guitar. Some fantastic effects too.
Do you know who "Black Peter" (Zwarte Piet") is in Dutch culture? (you might be unpleasantly surprised btw).
Zootman
Zootman replied 12th Nov 2023 - 2 years ago
Thanks Baobou, I was pleased with the drums too. I looked up Black Peter - yes, one of those cultural things (like golliwogs I guess) that were acceptable at one point in time, but less so now days. Cheers from Down Under.

Great work. I know it takes timew to shape a song for structure and make it feel seamless. You certainly did that here. Definitely a Doors feel as others have nmentioned. I love the progression and groove. Enjoyed it thouroughly !

hey there Chris! i guess doors comparisons are bound to accrue to headtrips like this, i guess it’s a good reference point, but it’s doors as recorded for flying nun, unheard music indeed. til now, mate. it’s a godawful and glowing moment at 2.00 or so when the swamp git enters the picture. you sing like a disillusioned dead-eyed sting. the singing becomes incantatory by the 2nd verse and the instruments become heat shimmers above the rhythm. the blade-runner ref skews this nicely as well. haunted strange and visionary.
Zootman
Zootman replied 15th Oct 2023 - 2 years ago
Ah you're too kind as usual but still your insights are on the money. Though the the SciFi reference in the lyrics was more William Gibsons Neuromancer (one of my all time favourite books) than Bladerunner. Similar vibe tho. As for the swamp guitar, that was me getting angry at my lack of chops on that instrument and inability to get a decent solo down. So I used that frustration anyway, kind of an anti-solo solo lol. Och aye .

Ever see the anime movie Akira? The intro reminded me of that movie, it has that type of percussion in parts of it.

that's a really nice comment, thanks a lot. And thanks for taking the time to listen to another track. I know I'm pretty amateur with this music thing, but it is so enjoyable to create and be creative. If I'm pleased with the result that's what matters most, but if someone else genuinely likes it too, all the better!! Cheers Zoot.

Hahahaha Chris!!!
I didd translate it.
Wow I'm laughing myself to death
The text makes no sense when I translate it into Dutch.
I read Zwarte Piet
of Sinterklaas, the Dutch children's festival on December 5.
I also read VAT, which has to do with sales tax for us.
This is so funny
but because of your beautiful voice it makes absolutely no difference what you sing about.

that's funny! My daughter the other day in the car, started randomly singing the words on her little toy fluffy dog. Stuff like - polyester, do not dry clean, hand wash, made in china....It sounded great I wanted to use it for something lol
