That was definitely fun, Todd! I have no idea about the genre, but you are right - it doesn't matter. Catchy! Percussion was great. Very good mix. All the sounds nicely separated. Nice work!
Awesome bass. I really enjoy the unconventional sounds. It sounds like it could be backing music for a movie or TV show. Great track. Had to listen several times.
Went check to see if downloads were available but anyways it's not :( I wanted also to say my hat's off to you my friend you are creating on another level!
Thanks again! I can send you the track if you want to have it to listen to or use as a reference for whatever reason. Just let me know the best way to get it to you. I stopped allowing downloads directly on here because it just seems weird that there are users who don't post anything at all yet download tracks all the time. Where are they going? :)
Oh hell yeah I really like the way it sounds that's my type of soundage! FUNKY INTRODUCTION. HELL YEA VOXS ARE AWESOME BRO! DAMN CHANGE OF PERCUSSION IS TWISTED BRO! SO OOOOO OOOO SMOOOOOTH! DAMN YOUR GOOD AS T KEEPING IT GOING ALRIGHT WITH PERFECT FLOW THEY BLEND EVERYTHING AS WELL AS CHOICE OF SOUNDS WELL PUT TOGETHER! AWESOME EXIT WITH THE WHISTLE
I don’t know, man. But it sounds like a backing track that fell out of the 80’s pop charts. Back when they first started to get really crazy with the synths and sampling. There was a lot of...umm...interesting....tunes back then.
Honestly, it’s pretty catchy. Not a bad little experiment, really. Especially if you had fun doing it.
Thanks for your time to listen and leave feedback, much appreciated. Well, I'm almost 50 so the 80's are certainly in my DNA! :) Glad you used the word "catchy" though, that's what I wanted. :) Thanks again!
Ha, I was hoping you would comment again because right after I replied the first time, I figured out what you meant. :)
For the tape drag effect I just applied a stock pitch plugin (in Garageband) and didn't do anything to it at all. I then went into the automation on that track and pulled a curve down on the pitch just where I wanted it to slow down. I hope that made sense. :)
Thanks so much for your time and feedback I appreciate it! I don't recall what I used specifically but if you are referring to the snare/rim click sound, I think I may have used 3 different samples (two snare sounds and 1 rim click, or something like that), I also remember purposely not lining up one of them on the beat so it created like a delay effect. Hope that helps. Thanks!
Overall after the updated version I think it fits a whole lot better!
There are still a few bobs and ends, and what I usually will try to do is even with that guitar "loop" you have as the main theme of the song is rebuild in just the parts that need it, so if you hear that dissonance in a bridge to another verse, you'd rework just that small transition to fit with the key of her voice. You know what I'm getting at? Keep what you've got, and do small adjustments from there.
todd, i think you aced it! the instruments really gel with the vox, and the wordless singing/flute sections are standouts. the track has a gravity that i completely missed in the earlier version. you are an interesting guy to follow and learn from, my friend.
Phew! Thanks for coming back and checking it out, I appreciate it! I didn't wan to give up on it just yet, so figured a small tweak may have gone a long way, I hope at least. I don't know how much I have to teach, but can certainly offer opinions. I am grateful for some of the feedback I have gotten here on Looperman, it has been helpful and I appreciate the community. I try to give thoughtful comments on other people's tracks too, with full disclosure that I'm am (or feel) like a newb. :)
you set yourself a challenge with this pella! since i’ve heard what you can do after getting some feedback, it’d be cool to hear what transposing the backing key would do. regardless, a solid and worthwhile effort — keep going, man!
Thanks for the feedback/encouragement. Do you mean trying to transpose the vocals? Wasn't sure what you meant by backing key exactly. But, I have gone back from where I was originally and transposed the instruments down another 3 semi-tones. Does this version seem like her vocals fit a little better with less dissonance? Thanks again!
Interesting song. I liked the stringed instrument you chose at the beginning and thru the song. The flute like instrument was a good choice. Her vocals seem a bit dissonant in context with your music. I did read what you said to centrist about his comment regarding this. Cool idea but it does have an interesting thang going on.
Thank you for your time and feedback Wayne, I appreciate it. So, I tried to look into this a little more. Jani did not give a key with her acapella, so I used Keyfinder which gave me the key of F#. The instruments I wanted to use were in the key of A#minor. So I transposed them to be F# as well to match her key. Is it possible the difference between major and minor are what is causing that disconnect? I don't know enough about music theory obviously. :) And if that was the case, how would I go about fixing it? Or do I just leave this track be and move on, haha. Thanks again!

BTW... What type of tape drag/stop are you using?
It rocks, adds another interesting dimension to this track.
