I agree with everybody else. I like the smoothness of the seams and the weirdness of it all, I'll be saving this one for future reference. Look out grandma!

Darn, I can't vote 3 times for it.

I like it! Sounds more like blues to me, however. Noodling sound is good, matey. Arrr.Very clean and uncluttered. But growly. I may have to try this download thingy, after I finish my Lawrence Welk compilation disk.

A really fun track - motivates movement, and I'm a sucker for anything that makes me want to dance. And those synth loops are damned HAPPY sounding that I have to grin as I bop along to it! I actually found myself remembering how much I liked the early Men Without Hats tunes on my first play of this (weren't they a Toronto band?)

This would be brilliant if you polished it a bit more. But you're absolutely right, if you're not having fun, what's the bloody point. Keep having fun and making such fun music!

4th play - added to may faved list. Dude, I so dig your bass work on this! This is great stuff!
bcway
bcway replied Unknown
Wow, thanks dude, great review. I'm very pleased that you enjoyed it.

Usually when I play bass, I kinda overdo it a bit, but for some reason when I plug in to record, I make a concerted effort to be tasty, and, bring a support concept to the track - sometimes it's difficult when having lived the life on stage and so used to being the center of attention...but I digress ( as usual {sigh} )...

Men without Hats...trying to remember...I may be confusing them with another Kanuckistan group from Quebec... Did they do Saftey Dance ?

Walking away from a project and letting it gestate is often the very best thing you can do. I've found that behind my own resistance (inc. getting pissed off at a project) usually means it's going to be one of my better works if I follow through.

BeyondEvolution's right - the beginning synth is great, and the rhythm really is engaging. This is happening, and hopefully you'll find what to do with it next. Seriously, this is worth going back to, without a doubt.
bcway
bcway replied Unknown
Because of your words ( and BeyondEvolution's), I will have another look at it....Wait...I just had a thought, I think when I was finishing it up ( after a couple of vodka's ) I was clean out of ideas to add to it - I think that may be what ticked me off and banished it to the ether (Looperman) ... hhmmm.. food for thought - I also wonder if the Vodka had anything to do with it... it never did that before...{gasp}

Thank you for taking the time to post your very helpful review.

The cut to piano at ~0:50 is a bit abrupt; I feel like some very light reverby echoes from the previous voices might carry it a bit. The piano is beautiful, and that running flute... great.

At ~2:10, I think the strings you're bringing in take it in a different direction than I was expecting. I was hoping for really loud booming timpani to come in two/four measures before doing that 1-5-1 thing they do.

My imagining cuts it to some sort of wailing guitar fusion piece, but just about anything high energy would work. High strings, a huge brass part, or something with a lot of umph. Also, cymbal crashes.

Sweet track. I hope you make it longer eventually.

Thank you for listening to my track. You've got great ideas for it's improvement - one's I haven't even considered - well done.
I wish I had more time to augment it. You see, working on a new track fires me up with enthusiasim, motivation, and the fun of creation. Working on an old track is like "do I hafta ?" like bring home work from my profession.

Anyhow, I truly thank you for your helpful words.

High praise for the sonic clarity. Definitely up there with the room space for the discreteness of instrument placement; seems to be a feature of all your tracks - ie., nice work, KIU (keep it up), homey from Kanuckistan, Cheers!
bcway
bcway replied Unknown
Kanuckistan...LOL. First time I heard that, for some reason I like it.
Thank you for taking the time to listen and review my...err...perhaps I should say engineering. I have limited resources, including time, but it is great to get away from the daily b.s. and cavort about with music.

This is a very fun track. The bass playing is very cool! I like the steppy feel of the track, if that makes any sense. The energy in this track builds up really nicely, and then fades away quickly and quietly. Really cool use of loops on this one. Great work overall!

bcway replied Unknown
Thank you Spivkurl for taking the time to listen and review my track. It means a lot since you are one of my top 5 favorite artists on this site.

Having fun with music is one of the very few great escapes in my life, away from the daily bull crap of my life. Fun is one thing, but when it is enjoyed by others, it's like icing on the cake. Thanks again.

Some of these loops seem a lil familiar..but who knows. This track rocked!! Loved the drumbeat and the guitar was fitted perfectly into this track. There may be a couple of spots that could use a lil tweaking here and there, but nothing major. This is a solid track..well done!
bcway
bcway replied Unknown
Thank you for the review. The synth loops are from Sterixx, there is a guitar track from Looperman but sadly I do not remember from who. The base is me (woooot first time using the lightsnake) and the drums I prog'd myself.
Oh yes definitly some spots can use tweaking, unfortunatly I lack finesse, patience and the time to make it more presentable, my primary motivation is the fun of it. Most of my tracks are a little rough around the edges - it seems I put more thought into naming the tracks than engineering :) Anyhow, thank you for the review.

It's good to know that there are other "old guys" out there who know how to continually throw in different sounds into their songs to keep them fresh & yet stay with the mood of the piece! You definitely did it with this track!

My only gripe is that I wanted it to be longer! :)

Again you drums sound great, the minutes the track started I started to hear the intro to Pretty Vacant by the Sex Pistols, but abain I think you can push this further, still this production sounds great, excuse my english stupid frog from Beloeil, lol.

Sacrament, this sounds awsome, you production is really booming, the build up is great, but honest opinion this is the intro to a masterpiece yet to bet written, your setting up for a masterpiece of epic proportion, from the sound of this I know you have it in you some 8 minutes piece, I have a couple they're a lot of work but worth it, really great job. Peace Love and Freedom to come from BC Quebec.

what does a person have when he has nothing to lose?
nothing
but EVERYTHING they own?

heheh
I am lucky with my landlord, they live thousands of miles away and don't even know my name-- God Bless America! hehe

I really liked the end, there was an intensity that ...
was really great..
I think this would be better recieved as a piece of art if you chose to go from that point, and escalate into something bit more.. aggressive, and then into the "intro" which would be the "outro"??
of course This is a great piece of music. like art!

You are clipping pretty bad tho..
the effects are great, but they do some strange things to sound..
I wouldn't think to much about it tho.. I have more tracks to listen too, but i will definitely be looking out for you bcway!

Hey there, thank you for the review. You raise some points that I am still thinking about. Thanks to a thick skull ( and age [sigh] ) the thinking process is taking longer than it used to.

Anyhow, I am still a noob here ( and to engineering tracks ), I do not understand the term "clipping" as of yet.

Actually that is a very nice review you gave me.

This is the only site that has successfully taken me away from World of Warcraft. Instead of playing for 3 hours a day, that 3 hours is now spent here, review and listening, and doing tracks - much more healthy for my brain cells. I'm still gonna download porn though..LOL

Hi Mrbc...A good ear at work here I can see...I think orchestral pieces offer a huge soundscape and big bold brush strokes work well when balanced with delicate passages..there's a definite percussive direction introduced during this piece..I'd be looking to follow that for an end run and outro...cheers planet

Hi there Bcway,

Thanks for reviewing my latest track, 'Funky Mix'.
Glad you enjoyed it.
So in return, here is my review of your latest.

I haven't done any tunes like Cinematic yet....altho I am fully equipt to do so. Working with loops is a lot of fun and I see you did a very nice job here of putting this one together.
I like everything about it actually. The piano part is cool especially. Nice and clean sounding. Fits in nicely with the overall picture.
I think you did a great job in putting this one together.

As far as making an ending, not excatly sure other than a repeating part that fades out. Sometimes, my tunes end abruptly, with a delay effect at the very end which is cool sounding.

Anyways, thanks for sharing.

Thank you for reviewing this track. I am very concerned about the bees - they do a unique job, humans or machines cannot do what bees do, and they are disappearing. Somewhat worrisome.
Later dude.

Amazing stuff right here, for real .... This track is the first orchestral track I've listened too on this site let alone review and the funny thing is, Im open to other genres as its all music right ? - I pretty much make hip hop and chillout tracks, a few electronic and industrial tracks here and there as well and honestly, your profile pic is what entrigued me a little to stop by so I had to check this out and wow am I impressed. Its something about this track thats got me. Maybe the fact that the overall message you are trying to express is very deep and epic, it could be the overall feeling from the track, the vibe ... many things. On that note, Im fav'n this one and look forwarding to checking out some others. As for the ending, I have to agree with DJL3.

Holy smokes ! Thanks JD, I am astonished to have received the attention of a prolific creator and contributer.

I just saw DJL2 sugestion - 100 percent spot on. Once I get a moment ( and peace and quiet ), I will have a go at it.

I'm concerned about the bees, if they go, we will have to learn how to eat and digest plastic (notwithstanding my wife's cooking). Bees are an essential part of our food supply what with pollenation and all that - ah bloody hell, I did not want to pontificate - sorry.

The picture is a WW1 British tank - very first one to have arrived on the battle field - they never did much damage but it terrified the enemy since they never saw anything like that before in trench warfare. My grandfather was there.

I'm still astonished - thanks again

First off, let me say I WISH I could program half as good as you.
What I hear on this is going to a double time feel with the drum loop & snare at some point... maybe change up the loop to a faster one for variety. Gaw, I'm not sure if I'm making sense. Definitely keep in the stutter edits. The music's great.

Wow, high praise, thank you, I just hope my head does not swell too much to fit through the door. Actually my head is a-swirl - i've listened to some of your loops and tunes - wow !! ( I left a review on your most recent.
I believe I understand what you suggested, I will not be able to do something about it for a while -I've got something new on the burner and am not as fast as I once was with technology.
Am I correct in remembering ( yes, I am getting old, forgeting, and am repeating myself, yes, I am getting old, forgetting, and am repeating myself, ) seeing an offer you made here somewhere to do guitar tracks - One day I would very much like to take you up on that - your are very talented.

Play 2 now...
I can recognize some of the Mag loops ya used in this being a fellow user, but not that many of 'em. So is it fair guessing that this is a demo or teaser track, given it's short time? I'm kinda interested to hear how this would progress if ya did more to it. Later on!

Thank you for listening to it. It means a lot to have been noticed by someone who knows his way around ( wow dude - I read your bio )
About the name, well, it's like that around here - we have fun at home as best we can what with lately life's continual relentless assaults.
I am impressed by your observation - hit the nail squarely on the head. Much of my music is quickly done because of time constraints, and I sincerly regret that much of my music does not have much sublty, because I am still drilling through the technology. Considering having spent 20 years as a mainframe systems analyst, I am lagging badly - a bit embarressing.
I come from an era when you grabbed a guitar with a few moments notice and head to a bar to bang out a nights worth of mostly rock and roll.
A great starting environement but it does not help a lot with todays methods. At 54 years old I am still learning music - and enjoying it just as much. I am also stunned by the amount of talented people on this site that are willing to assist.
Thanks again. May the road rise to meet you....
