I don't hate what Tom Jones did with it, but His Royal Badness is where it's at man. I love everything he did and I cried when he left us. I still can't hear snow in April without crying.
BaoBou, mate, if this is one take, I think you're doing amazingly well. And it sounds great!! Always loved this song too so it's a winner all round. Cheers Chris.
Thanks so much buddy! Someone else played it live and I thought Ohhh Innees to play that too. It's always been one of my favourites and these days I like to throw in the occasional cover with the originals to get people going. This one gets everyone fired up!
The piano on this is FIRE. You are so gifted and it shows in this song. Love the mix, feels organic and real! The lyrics are a fun love melody. All the more impressive that this was tracked live! Great work!
Thank you!! You knew of course it's a cover right (Prince)? So I can't take any credit for the lyrics ;) but if I made it sound like the love melody that it is, then I succeeded! Thanks!
It seems like you were truly enjoying recording this, and that's what really counts. Your singing voice has a hint of Huey Lewis, which is definitely a VERY good thing!
You sir got music. You've got that raw vintage sound that does not expire. If I become wealthy before getting married I'll have to fly you over to perform live at my wedding...but don't say "Never want to see you again" coz I don't wanna get divorced before the wedding is over haha.
Anyways...great music sir
Thank you so much buddy! Much appreciated!! I'll play for free on your wedding - I've been twice to South Africa and it's a beautiful country!
And yes, I'd need to play some more happy songs - for some reason I just love breakup songs. There's so much raw emotions :)
Wow bro!
How I missed this song??? Hell!!!
What a vocal on this ... kudos really ...
the whole one is beautifully clear, if you know what I mean ...
like the piano, bass duel at the beginning and the smooth guitar chops throughout ...
I can say it is one of your best ...
congrats and hats off,
fistbump,
Danke
Yeah and if you listen to the lyrics you'll notice it's not a happy song at all. I like the dichotomy between happy music and sad lyris and vice versa :)
Hello BaoBou, great track my friend, I like the way it starts out... kind of maybe sad and respectful before it opens up delivering a more pronounced meaning of the situation...music is very good, love the guitars in the back and nice percussions. Great work
I honestly dont kno if i have a favorite streaming site, if I were able to squeeze in the fee right now it would likely be Spotify because of the sheer volume of listeners. Bandcamp is intuitive once you upload there a few times... but I wish I could do Spotify. I'm sure that information answered everything but your question lol. My bad.
Hello BaoBou, just checked out your track and found it pretty entertaining and cool, its got a nice story and excellent guitar playing and good musical backup....the vocals are well done also....this is well done track my friend.
Apple Music! grrrrrr....alrite I may do it, just for u lol. (I have personal beef with Apple)
On a side note, I did add u as a recommended artist on Bandcamp :)
This track feels a bit different in structure than what U usually do - kinda irrelavant, considering how good it is lol
That's awesome buddy. What's your favourite streaming site?It should be out on all of themincluding 20 you've never heard of, but the CDbaby site seems to be buggered so I can't check the site right now :D
Thanks for the recommendation!! Right back at you!
Thank you so much buddy! It's on bandcamp but deploying it to Spotify seems to take bloody ages...
I'd love if you could take a look at https://baobou.blogspot.com/ occasionally, that also has a link to everything and I try to keep it updated when I have new stuff :)
This is great I love the electric piano sound. The vocals are just great. On the guitar solo part I would may be lower the volume a bit and get closer to the vocals mix levels. Anyways, congrats and good luck on your upcoming Album.
Bonjour Olli! Vous avez raison bien sur! I had indeed noticed that the guitar was wayyy too loud (you said it very nicely). New version uploaded with the guitar a bit more reasonable and also some bits of the vocal fixed.
This one wields a special kind of emotional power from the beginning notes until the very end....brilliant. If I could teach a class on emotions and their connection to music (and I wish I could, believe me) I don't think i could find a better example of the points I'd be teaching about. Just well freakn done dude.
When I listen to music, either here on Looperman, or some big time artist, I like to try to identify the influences. Whether they're obvious or very subtle and hidden a few layers deep. It's like a game to me. I suppose some people might take it as me taking away from their hard work and originality. But I assure you, when I point out these potential influences, it's absolutely a compliment. I'm saying "this is good. Good like..."
With that being said, in most of your work that I've heard, Dire Straits seems to come up the most. In this song, the vocals sound like Elvis Costello in the style of Mark Knopfler. Which, is really pretty cool.
The music itself is very pleasant, and heartfelt. I like the guitar solo quite a bit. It almost has a Jerry Garcia ring to it. Not only in style, but tone as well.
With music of this quality, I can see why you've released an album. I imagine it will do well!
Take care.

Ha, interesting! It really made me think who my influences are. I hugely respect Elvis Costello, especially his songwriting, so being mentioned in the same comment is already a massive compliment.
In terms of influences I'm aware of, Steely Dan is probably one of the biggest, when Ch is interesting because I discovered them only later. Recently I've been channeling my inner Jackson Browne and a bit of Little Feat. There must be some Peter Gabriel or Paul Weller but nobody ever mentioned that.
Mostly though... I like that you like it, and maybe one day somewhere somebody will be influenced by BaoBou ;)
Thank you so much, that's maybe the best and nicest comment I've ever had!
I had to look up where Centurion is - I was in South Africa twice, I think last around 2000 and also visited Johannesburg - a complex city in a complex country!
