So glad you hear the industrial sensibility that's underneath this piece! I was really trying to find a postIndustrial edge, as biomimicry was the principal I was hoping to invoke. Our creations say much about our understanding of ourselves, and biomimicry seems to be a sort of return to the source. Hopefully it made you tap your feet or bob your head as well - as this really is an attempt to make a Dance track. Thanks for the listen and review, mon ami.

Beautiful. I must say if I could like Sylar from heroes just take someones power or musical essence for my own, it would be yours my friend. You're one of the few people I've come across that effectively jumps the gaps between the human sensory inputs as well as between usual concepts and magical ones. I have long been a fan of yours, and I know for sure if you weren't on this site, I would not feel as comfortable as I do being off in the periphary, cuz I've got a friend out there on the ledge. Cheers man!! Great song too. I mean really just look at all the words I wrote while it played. The music enhanced the thought transfer, and would probably enhance a lot of other things too. :D Cheers!

Brought a smile to my lips with this review, Ken! It's why I always try to jam with musicians that are better than I am - it's easier to draw from their talent and creativity and leap higher than ever before. Yes, this is the place to explore the boundaries and try new things, isn't it? I'm so glad I can inspire you, and that the inspiration runs both ways! Cheers - Sean.

Beautiful arrangement, you can def feel that "live" element. It's like floating in to a crystal cave; Shafts of light break in to random prisms, water dripping from somewhere in the distance and a gentle myst rising from the floor. I'm totally in awe from listening to this. I hope one day my ambient/down beat tracks can come close to this beautiful illustration you have presented before us.

Wow. This is like poetry, and perhaps the single coolest review I've ever received. Promise not to laugh too hard? - I actually almost didn't upload the original draft of this, because I wasn't sure if I liked it or not! It's the nature of creativity, perhaps...kind of like taking a beautiful crystal and and revealing its most beautiful form by faceting it, or finding the form in a piece of marble and turning it into a sculpture. Having listened to a few of your tracks now, rest assured you'll achieve and even surpass this one! Really. Cheers.

While listening to this, I closed my eyes and truly felt I was somewhere else in the world. A place full of wonder and mystery, numbing all the senses but still able to absorb all that is around me. Wow, thanks man :) Can you stamp my passport?
n0mad23
n0mad23 replied Unknown
Passport stamped and visas in order. I like your description about "numbing all the senses but still able to absorb all that is around me." To me, this is a Mystery that Music can directly touch. It's amazing that amidst complexity our senses keep from being totally overwhelmed. I'm really pleased it had this effect on you. Thanks!

And this time I'm able to bounce with this just fine!, so you taught me well. Cuz believe you me I did try!

I'm finding my experience as a performing musician and dabbling with analog recordings is translating pretty well into this medium. "Dancing in the Dreamtime" is one of those inspired moments that translated really well into a recording. I'm still feeling really good about this one. Glad you enjoyed the "sonic banishment in 3 movements."

Very enjoyable track, top notch production, very pro, feel the dub influence riding on an astral belt, like the late bass and synth all effective, worthy of a download if the option was there.

n0mad23 replied Unknown
Thanks for the listen and review Salook! This was the last track I made for the album of the same name, and I actually made over a dozen different drafts of it before I found what worked for me. I love Ethnic music, but I find a lot of World Music tracks are rather - mediocre? I really wanted to avoid that pitfall with this one, and think I did. Sound like you're in agreement, which certainly makes me feel good about this one. Thanks!

The intro was really unique (but i'm not an avid dub listener). Is that sitar? The swirling synths were cool..really helped spring the track along. percussion seemed ethnic, but went with it

When I made this one, I was so happy - and yet it's the track that has fallen the farthest from my favor yet. Yes, that's a sitar (sampled) and I still like how the synths swirl in this. Thanks for the listen and review!

Man, a fave from Slap is about as great a compliment as a person can get here! I was hoping you'd hear this one at some point, as it features my homemade finger piano as the bass. There's something about playing music on an instrument you've built that's rather special. So glad you dig this one. Cheers!

Very, very cool and interesting song. Like all the ddifferent sounds on this one. Haven't hearm much didgeredoo on this site. I've been waiting a month for my friend who plays the didgeredoo to lay down some tracks for me on a song that is finished.

Keep coming up with these great tunes man!

It was the didgeridoo that got me up on a stage and performing in `92. I couldn't imagine making a track about "World Music" and the connections between all traditions without bringing the didgeridoo into it. Still, my favorite moment in this track is when everything drops and the Egyptian fiddles float in. Thanks for the review and encouraging words!

At first, I thought the shorter version would be enough for me to kind of "get it" as far as what the music is saying here, but I find myself replaying this to myself multiple times trying to get myself a good fix. I am a big fan of soundscapes in the experimental sense of the genre, and as there are some very organic "natural" sounds flooding the sense-field, I am also delighted by the syncoopated beats and synth that I hear, kind of exchanging time in the forefront with the organic stuff. I love it. The kids will certainly be hearing this coming out the speakers when they come by for candy this Halloween!
n0mad23
n0mad23 replied Unknown
You've got great listening skills and an ability to articulate that into written language, so this is a delightful review to receive. More and more I find myself really exploring soundscapes as a kind of emotional aggregate expression of visual representations. Is it possible to do the same with sound in terms of representation as in a painting painting? Can a soundscape "describe" a landscape? I think your observation on "exchanging" time here is the auditory equivalent of 3d representation on a 2d canvas, and I'm really encouraged that someone else "sees" it, too. Thanks for the listen and great review.

Thanks jfw - it's my attempt to subvert the World Music genre while simultaneously replicating it. I tried to get representative sounds from every continent without falling into something rather stale. Personally, my favorite moment here is when all but the Reggae drums drop out and Egyptian fiddles fade in. Glad you dug it!

I love the variety of sounds you've used to build such an amazing soundscape... this really is a soundscape... it's like there's no escape! I like the unusual instruments you record with, and you have a talent for bringing for such strong sounds from them. Another amazing track!
n0mad23
n0mad23 replied Unknown
I keep trying to do sonic narratives, and in this sense the soundscape is the closest I've gotten. What's cool about this is that interpretation still rests in the audience, and ultimately each interpretation is slightly different. Reading all these reviews (11 in such a short time is incredibly flattering!) I'm struck with how each is truly grounded in the "text". The soundscape provides an interpretive ground, and nobody's hearing "happy blue dancing bunnies" or anything outside of its ground. This is cool and exciting to see. Thanks much mon ami le artiste - your perspective means a great deal to me.

I love this. When I pressed play i couldnt really stop listening to it. YOur title was extremely creative and its interesting because it fits this song. Its extremely mechanical. If i was alone in an old house at night and was listening to this id be frightened. Anyways i love this. It provides a ton of imagry. I imagined a bunch of ghosts on a conveyor belt coming back from the other side to finish unfinished business. Thats what i imagined anyways. Good job with this i enjoyed it a lot.
n0mad23
n0mad23 replied Unknown
Codymeiser - thanks for listening and reviewing this one. I'm really pleased you heard this as being "mechanical" as I was really trying to sonically portray the difference between corporeality (the organic) and non-corporeality (the hungry ghosts), and I think the mechanical aspect works for that representation. I'm super delighted that it created internal visuals for you and you found an interpretive ground in the title. Cheers mate!

aw man - love your titles. they really accentuate the track in the greatest of ways. they always give that perfect focus for the visuals in my head. nice work.

That DSK Darkness Theory is one that I just couldn't imagine ever using. I'm one that really doesn't like Horror Movies - period. I always feel a bit violated by the end of one and it's not entertaining to me. So this track is really quite a surprise personally on several fronts. It all began with an experiment importing a live kalimba recording that really reminded me of Balinese gamelan orchestra music. The leap to Hungry Ghosts happened immediately as it's specifically a Chinese mythology (extended out through much of Asia). I certainly approach my music visually, and it's what I can see in my mind's eye that I try to recreate sonically. The real joy to me is that this seems to translate and people like you "see" related visuals upon listening. I can't think of a higher form of compliment. Thanks so much!

I like how music strokes memory, and how a track will remind someone of something else. It's funny that with the limitations of sound that anything "original" happens at all. I hope you do post your track sometime, as I'd love to hear what this track reminds you of. Glad you enjoyed it. Cheers!

lol - "I know in myself a secret Egypt that doesn't exist/is this good or bad/I do not know" - Rumi. Silly me, I really thought that if you sat 5 people down with the same samples you'd get 5 near identical tracks. Uh-huh.

Guess you won't be surprised to learn I now know longer think this way.

The thing I'm wrestling with now is reception - are people digging my "niche" because my audience are fellow musicians/artists? Or in fact, has history finally accelerated to the point where my "thang" is actually accessible to a broader audience? Guess it doesn't really matter much, because I'm having fun with it, and it's fulfilling the creative needs I have. That there's approval is just a plus. Thanks for the review and the fav!

Hey Sean...Bit of a tour de force happening here...some very cool sounds with great separation in the mix...you know, your having an influence on me..yesterday I bought a piezo pick-up online so I can attach it to all sorts of things and record them direct...all those kalimba type sounds are so cool!..I think this track is bridging the percussion barrier and showing how rhythms can become full blown orchestration in it's own right...I especially like the title, evocative yet totally illuminating..excellent work! cheers Dave :)

Dave - what I miss most about the old form is the inspiration that comes from direct contact with others. I'm beginning to realize that this form of contact/collaboration can work similarly, it's just a bit more difficult. I'd like to thank you personally for the multitude of loops I used from you in this piece. I actually had no idea until it was done and I gathered the list. I suspect it says a lot about yours and my own aesthetics and why we like each others approaches. I'm honored to occupy the same camp as The planetjazzbass! I think it's time for us to conspire on a combined effort track. Cheers, Sean.
