The originality is great here by itself...but the groove you created was very cool. A real sublte build up, and then it springs on you. Something sounds like rushing water...its very clear at the end, but I can't my finger on it. I love how you take the essence of nature and transform it to sound. I can't think of a better sound-scape to describe a frog. haha
Fav
Thanks for the fave! It's definitely one of those archetypal tracks that gave me much grief in the early stages. Once I submitted to the demands of Frog it all kind of fell into place. Cheers.
Merci beaucoup! Les enregistrements sur le terrain de grenouilles viennent de tous les continents, et les Juifs harpe(?) morceaux ont ÃÂtàjouÃÂs par moi-même. C'est la musique du marais qui fait danser la boue, non?
if u never tried in this one. did u know that somehow this could about 40% pass for being hip hop? lol simple u just imagine someone rapping on it deeply with a word to the world and how we need to wake up and c what u are loosing. that is because of the snares u have in here. them fxs makes it more ambient, and yes, it is somehow hypnotic, can relax to it, meditate to it, sleep with it or even swing with it :D
really nice track man!
It must be the downtempo...I used a loopytunes' Reggae drum loop for the foundation, played at 80 bpm. I hadn't really considered a vocal track with this, but I bet with the right message and the right singer, it'd be outrageous. I'm feeling rather humbled by how many times this one's been faved. Thanks for the review and kind words, my friend.
I almost posted this as Cinematic, but it doesn't really work for me like that. Lol - I've never had an ex standing by the bed while I'm sleeping, but it gives a good sense of things. Strange that we can invoke such states with musical noise. Thanks for the listen and review!
Intriguing. All over the place - Layers - In the Mix - Makes me think of an Industrial Festival with lots of Tinker Toys, Robotics, Gizmos and head turning subculture type activites. Carnival?
Hello KAMPUTERA! Fantastic - someone new for me to check out music from! Thanks for alerting me to your presence. There's definitely a Post-Industrial sensibility to this track, and I'm glad you hear it. I actually did this originally as a theme song for an imaginary anime, where everything was patterned off of bio-mimicry. Maybe it's bio-industrial carnival music? Cheers, and expect a visit from me presently.
The intro is wow man! Beautiful technique you have :) I am addicted after one hit. The sound you produced is so unique, I felt like I was at a rave in the deep bog. Cool work here, my ears are in happy mode
Coming from someone I consider a master of House music, this is a compliment indeed! You're faving this really drives it home. Thank you my friend, you've made my day.
This was a challenge. I think there were 3 posted drafts before coming to this final version, and it's the title track to my album released through Mega Monster Music. My attempt to do a World Music track outside the genre - and I think your "tribal sounding" is how. Bootstrapped into the current moment with every electronic manipulation possible. House/Trance/Rave music really is a replication of ecstatic traditions of long ago. And to think, I not only resisted loops, I once sneered at them! Sure glad I got over that one. Cheers.
You really do have your own style, it's deliberate, chaos let out of the bottle, this sort of material is prone to go over a lot of peoples heads. Love the hypnotic states you create thru your music.cheers.
Man, looking at the latest rounds of reviews, I'm beginning to think there's an audience for my Thang. Stillness in Chaos. All is Well. It's an old tradition wearing the garments of the modern - altered states through musical experience. I'm really beginning to love(?) the tech that's now at our disposal. Thanks for the listen and review! Cheers!
How did it happen that I missed this track before?!?This one is a masterpiece! When I first came across your music,I thought about your tracks as being like musical paintings, very evocative with a unique atmosphere, adding the different layers of soundscapes.
Faved it,of course,lol
French Kid
Mon ami - "musical paintings" is truly what I'm doing, and I owe you thanks for bringing to my attention initially. Definitions can be really useful, no? It has let me take the license to continue this approach, and incredibly flattering that people actually dig it, too! Thank you for the fave!
I like the longer version better than the shorter, mainly because it's, um, longer. And I'm greedy. You do have a unique sound, man. I listen and I wonder, how is he getting that sound? Same with MGMT's first album - how'd they get that sound? How, I ask you? Haven't heard anything else quite like it; I mean, I'm back to this now, your sound. I get what you said at some point about the hidden melodies; the fact that they're deep in the texture of the sound - not buried exactly, but low-profile - makes one listen harder, engages the ear more. Anyway, I bow before thee and kiss the growly ground.
Me too. The shorter version was an assignment from MMM Ltd. to create a single that could be played on the radio. To answer your question about "that sound" - I think I'll shoot you an email. A manifesto probably shouldn't be posted in a response to a review. Thanks for faving this one - it's an ultimate compliment and nod of encouragement for me.
Ohhhhh yeahhhhhh. Sweet. Man, how I dig the growly landscape with the boppy beat and chirpy melodic snippets bouncing on top. Way cool. The one thing, fwiw, is the first part (dut-dut-dut-dut) of the chirpy bits seems like they could be a bpm or 2 faster somehow; they seem ever-so-slightly labored whereas feel like they wanna be a tad crisper and lighter. Then again, what do I know?
My man, you're the first to spot this slight lag in bpm. Actually, it's deliberate (in this case) as it adds a tension that I felt the piece needed. It's my nod at the limitations of bio-mimicry, and how we'll never achieve the elegance that nature (read biology) does without effort. Apparently, you know a great deal more than you think as you're the only one that's heard the labored part of this. Far out!
I thought I was Falling Frogs, but you take the title. This is hot, brother. Music that wells up from the swamp and makes the very mud dance. Musical Intelligentsia indeed. Or, to put it in my language, "YOU ROCK!"
If there's ever a call for quotes for publicity purposes, I'm going to use this one! You're literate, aren't you? "Music that wells up from the swamp and makes the very mud dance." That's absolutely beautiful! Thanks.
Whoa. Dense, many-layered, and yet light as sun sparkling on the ocean - with new percussive melodies moving in and out all the time like a breeze in a field of wheat. OK, mixing metaphors there but that's what it's like to me, an effervescent dance of intertwining melodies. I listened to it on speakers first and then on headphones. Not downloadable? Darn it!
I love your name! I'm swinging to your tracks after this response to check out your work. I really wanted this one to shake up the "World Music" cliche while still keeping it World. I'm glad you hear the movement here, as I really was trying to move continent to continent with the sampling and it took many experimental drafts before arriving at this version. Mega Monster Music has the distribution rights to this one, so I'm afraid it's only available currently for sale. Thanks for the major compliment here!
Hey Man interesting track you got here! Like the combination of sounds in here! Very adventurous track. While listening to it I feel I'm transported to the Australian outback while kangaroos jump around left and right or walking through a rainforest with many mysterious animals peering out at me! Really nice work Man! :)
Sweet - your response tells me that it does still have the organic thing going on that I'm hoping for. I actually was working with the idea of the Dreamtime to sonically represent what I think the environment of a data mine would sound like if set to music. The "kangeroos" and "mysterious animals" you're hearing are my representation of computer worms or viruses replicating aspects of biological organisms. I'm really excited you can hear "life" in this! Thanks!
I guess you're going for a kind of random, "entrophic" feel? Cause it sound chaotic right from the bat, but strangely it feels just right... for a while. That is the first... 40 to 50 seconds, then I want something more. I can hear you're changing up stuff during the song, but really I feel the song is quite repetitive and uniform and I don't enjoy it throughout. So yup, as you say it definitely needs more work. Very cool sound though, original and complex, so keep it up
The track's deliberately repetitive, but I definitely see your point. Honestly, it should be enjoyable, so expect some sort of adjustment on this one for the next version. Thanks for listening and giving some constructive criticism, too. Cheers!
okay this sounds like a house track underwater with sharks having an orgy, love the vibrant sounds and melody to it.wish had some real high uptempo moments in my opinion but its a thumbs up for me
"real high uptempo moments" - fantastic! This is exactly the kind of suggestion I'm looking for. Thanks for giving me something to both think about and play around with. I've never tried making a house track before, so I'm a bit out of my element here. Thanks also for the encouragement! Cheers.
hey man, way too many interesting things here to talk about in a review...if i could sum it up in a couple of words though...uniquely refreshing and the next step in your incredible evolution as an artist...thanks for posting this and your support of my music dude..!
So many branches on the tree, and I still be a`growin', kinda like a graft, you know?
This one's still needing plenty work, but I'm feeling good with this working draft. I'm really digging the influx of entropy as semi-controlled feedback and how it teases out pseudo-melodies(?) that exist within the rhythmic structure. The biggest obstacle is how full it is already, and how to over-dub something(s) without drowning out what's already there. Thanks for the review!
Hi,
Really your tracks are amazing!I don't think I had ever heard something like that before. If it was my track,I would certainly add a melody because I tend to instinctively build my songs around melodies. But your songwriting is different and great as is and so peculiar too.So maybe just a "passing by" melody but not dominant in the track.I hope this makes sense, lol
Like Koukotsu,it feels weird giving a piece of advice to a great artist like you
Cheers
French Kid
Mon frere - excellent advice! I've got two different strategies to try out now, and the "passing by melody" is probably what will work best. I'm really flattered you think I'm a great artist, and am now positive that the talented ones here are already a sub-community within the larger one. Every one who's offered advice so far are artists I think are incredibly talented (yourself included!). Thanks for taking the time to give this advice - it's greatly appreciated!
I agree with planet on this. You have a great base for something to add to. I think a melody of some sort would def help, just keep it honest. Maybe more on the lines of a great hook played sparingly or a few accent instruments. There is a lot going on already that's pretty cool, don't just cover it up!
Hey Wayne - I think your advice on a "hook played sparingly" is what I'm going to try next. My great concern has been that any additional melody will cover up what's already there, and your advice is the way to prevent this (experiments with synths have validated the cover up fear). Ultimately, I think I'll have to re-record this one to do what I'm beginning to imagine with it. Thanks for the listen and sound advice!
Hi Sean....well I'm listening and yes it definitely needs a melody..however that's a relative term and depends from which perspective your coming from.....at the moment I'm hearing a rhythm base that potentially could cover a raft of genres but without any formal breaks or segues and here's the rub..it seems today people require a formula for everything especially music and if they don't find it they often reject it which to me defeats the whole purpose of listening in the first place, I'm quite happy to listen to the dawn chorus even with the intrusion of motor vehicles...My point is,irrespective of what elements you include there's always going to be pressure to conform to mainstream ideas which in your rhythmic case may not necessarily be the best direction to go...You've got a dynamic amorphous style that is organic,I don't think you need to second guess it, just as the wise ones say..Do unto others then split..cheers Dave
Dave - you're the man. You're absolutely right, and I've been seconding guessing my aesthetic when I really should be trusting my "craft." I'm thinking either a really minimal reoccurring riff or like "Dancing in the Dreamtime" a very present melody might arise in the last part of the song. I'll keep experimenting with this one. Thanks friend!
Stay tuned - this is the first one I'm coming back to finish the extended remix on! Thanks for the nod of approval (ultimate compliment) on this one, and you'll be the first I notify when the extended version flies! Cheers.
This song has a very world/middle eastern feel to it and I'm really digging that sound lately. I wish this song was a bit longer, I was getting into it when it stopped, not many songs I can say that about. The vocal track fits nicely(wonder what he is saying?) You have quite a unique, distinctive sound that totally impresses me at every listen!!
Hey Wayne - thanks for the review on this one! Actually, this was a 'discipline' experiment for me, and the first of my tracks created following the "radio play" length rule. I agree - it really should be longer, and it's one of 2 or 3 that are on my list to go back to an create the extended remix version. The difficulty is that it's more fun to create new stuff instead! Glad you enjoyed this one! Cheers.
WOW!!!! This music is heaven to my ears. Ambient no, trance yes. When I heard this song I found my self dancing like crazy. I could explain what I saw in my head but it would take waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to long. In a word it is trance. TRANCE!!! Please, if you can, change it to trance. Any way, keep up the great, excellent, beautiful, heavenly music. One of your favorite listeners, Shojo Beast
Hi ShojoBeast - welcome to Looperman! Actually, I thought this song might be "trance" when I first made it, but after listening to many trance tracks I decided this is something else. I think it's either Chillout or Ambient - and since it's still part of the "all genre competition" I can't change its genre presently. Thanks for the great review!
Alot of people may not know this but the Hippo has killed more people in Africa than any other wild animal, and this is a killer track..enjoyed your music tonight..thanks.
I'm one of those that knows this, and I'm glad to shared it for those who read the reviews! Don't know if you read through any that reviewed before you - this song is actually inspired by my own experience with an angry herd on the Benue River in the north west border of Cameroon when I was 9 years old. My dad and I got chased several hundred yards down the river bank and narrowly escaped in a `66 Ford Bronco. I think I did a fairly good job of translating that experience into an intense sound scape. Thanks for the fave!
