Wow, what amazing dubbery!! (heh I made up a word) I love all the atmospheres that you use in your tracks, it really places the song in a setting which people can relate with. You're really good at using loops, I must say, because this doesn't sound like loop based music, it sounds fresh and original! This piece really sets my mind to trippin, or at least to travelling within the confines of my head. I have got to listen to that again... This is too cool! I love that organ sound, it's nice and bouncy! Well what else can I say that someone hasn't said already... Very good work my friend! Faved for sure!

n0mad23 replied Unknown
You know, I think a lot of the sound comes from my always looking for analog samples to weave into my mixes - at least in terms of finding samples of analog instruments. The other strand is in using other peoples' loops I retain the sense of playing with others instead of playing by (with?) myself - lol. It requires listening not only to their sounds, but trying to hear the original intent as well. For example, in this track I'm using guitar loops from jahknow and rei4real and the interaction between the two really comes from me listening to what they can "say" to each other in a kind of call and response mode. Truly a blast to create this (even with the amount of work needed) and I'm so delighted it's translated into something listeners can enjoy as well. Thanks for the fave! It really makes me think I'm on the right path here. Cheers my friend!

A nice groover to go with my morning coffee and an enjoyable listen. Dub is fast becoming quite popular on Looperman and the good thing is that each of the current exponents of it appear to accentuate different aspects of the form - Itegrator & JonesVZ highlight the Reggae element. Spivkurl fuses it with electronica while yours offers up oppidan insurrection! - Nice work.
n0mad23
n0mad23 replied Unknown
I love that word - "oppidan." In my mind, I've been thinking a good musical project would be in focusing on how concepts and words are redefined to serve the masters. "Revolution" isn't about armed coups by juntas - Copernicus gave us the first one. "Anarchy" doesn't mean violence and chaos, it means that as social creatures we tend to organization without coercive force. I've been a fan of dub since the late 70's and it feels "right" somehow to be dancing with this sound currently. Sure am glad you approve! Thanks.

Excellent. A very balanced track despite the many elements gives an overall sound-scape that is captivating and demands the imagination take flight. Wicked bass line!

n0mad23 replied Unknown
Hey Steevo! Yes, I was a bit concerned in putting this together that I might end up with something very muddy sounding by the end. I'm quite pleased with the outcome. Yes, that bass line is amazing (though somewhat altered) and I'm sure I'll be looking at more ultrabase bass loops after this! Thanks for the review!

Yes!! as a fan and listener of n0mad23 this really is an exciting piece of work, i admire how you approach your music with a mind set of knowing beforehand that this is how it is going to be.
This for me is Ninja scroll meets dub, menacing with dark elements, its technicolor, music for graphic animation.
Listening to this really does put images into the mind, a wandering swordsman stumbles into a plague hit village, he's suspicious, the deaths seem mysterious, was it murder? it really gives a sense that something dangerous is afoot, this is cemented when swords are drawn and a showdown commences.
Great piece of dub music Sean, really does do something special for the listener, brilliant. thanks

I think our recent exchange about the hidden history of the Irish slaves and the Caribbean probably is a significant vector in this one. The hidden stories of resistance and moments of rebellion. I'll post the more controlled mix-down next, and then go into the final phase of weaving in soundscapes to bring it to completion. Stay tuned! Thanks for the review and fave!

Dark and hypnotic the vocals fit the track perfectly excellent stuff.
n0mad23
n0mad23 replied Unknown
It was an "unnatural" marriage to be sure - lol! This actually took several attempts to get the music and vocals working together, and then several more attempts to make them sound right together. The result - why hasn't this been done before? I'm actually coming to grips with the fact that the Irish and African slaves together created the foundation that later became the Delta Blues. Thanks for the review and thumbs up! Will be by to check out your tracks.

Hey once again you delivered a track enriched with lots of atmosphere painting a mental image inside our mind!
Nice work man! Very interesting and special! Would fit perfectly in a soundtrack for a movie! Gives me the idea of walking through a long forest full of dark trees with the sunlight shining through them while crows and other animals hide in the shadows of this mysterious place! Keep up the good work!

Hi DJsDragoN - I think you're right about it working in a soundtrack, and feel especially good about that as I was attempting a sublime narrative or story behind it. To my mind, that's what the best of soundtracks do. Thanks for the review and fave! No better form of compliment, and means a lot! Cheers!

Hi StÃÂphane,

I've struggled with the end of tracks, too - and I was a bit worried that this one might come off as gimmicky. I love adding field recordings to my tracks, but it's a challenge. Need to make them serve the music instead of the other way around. With the "Ambient Logbook" thread, I'm realizing that regardless of genre I try to bring this approach to the mix. I believe this is the key to why my tracks seem like musical paintings. I so glad that you approve! Thanks.

This is a funny track and doesn't lend itself to ambivalence in the audience. People either seem to love this or hate it, but indifference just isn't there. I may come back to it again, but at this stage I just want to create more, you know? Thanks for all you do for me.

You won't recognize this one, except for elements when I'm done, Abe! Now that I know what my current project is, I know exactly what I need to do with this one. It's going to be way more of a narrative, and it's going to have more space, transitions, and all that. Agree about drums, and some sort of "organic" intervention going beyond the genggongs.

The database needs to meltdown by the end in a sonic representation.

I think you'll dig it. Music to have a Rebellion To.

Holy cow man! Blow my mind would you?! This was totally unexpected and I love it love it! You've captured something in this mix that is absolutely crucial. An underbelly riddim that just pulses with heartbeat. Very well spaced reverbs, delays, phasing etc. You've just impressed Jah MAJORLY with this dub.

If you get a chance rip a 320 mp3 for me and send it priority Jah Know reggae Dj. ;)

blessing...
n0mad23
n0mad23 replied Unknown
Well, the launching point and inspiration is from the loops you gifted me, so I'm hoping my "vision" is a nice surprise. I'm thrilled you hear that heartbeat riddim - it's one of the symbolic components as it's Life. Creation and destruction=right hand and left hand of life itself. Still drafty draft #1, but even I hear potential dripping red.

I love Dub. I mean really, really love Dub. I never imagined I'd make it dance for me - lol.

Thank you again my friend!

Chillin' here is good, it means to me that the ambient fusion is working. Wanted to do Dub but shake it up a bit, and challenge some assumptions along the way. Yeah, I dig the intro and that slight ominous vibe that shifts into thick bass (subs shudder). Glad you like it! Thanks for the listen and review.

Somehow this review slipped right by me! That I have "fans" here is still such a surprise! Isn't it great that we can make the music that we want to, and there are people that will like it? Still takes me by surprise at times. I've never been to Morocco, but do have aspirations and certainly have read much on the area and culture. Fez is the place I really want to visit (and jam with the Sufis there!) Thanks so much for reviewing this one my friend. Cheers.

Hey optym - this one's almost there, and I'm betting my next recording/revision is going to be the one I keep. I've been actively researching Ambient music lately, and I'm not surprised that the Industrial roots are apparent here. I'm finding as I progress technically with the medium that I'm spending way more time in fine tuning and teasing out textures now than I do on composition. Expect an email from me soon! Thanks and cheers!

Yeah!

Actually In some ways... You are like a plant...
that's the best way to explain you as a creative entity..

Silent and living... Just growing and growing thru the headphase.
Just this epic flow of eponymous creativity.

See, from my personal background I hear the drums kicking in and then it taking a more pop form.. but I appreaciate this a whole hell of a lot compared to the original.

I think pop sensibilities... I mean... It's like.. on some ways.. I have been Anti-pop for about a year and a half... and I think it's a great way to illicit natural human emotion.
but
you have crossed this line and I would hug you if I could.

It's like the web of life is integrated and the emotion and feel are one and the same... fx drops pull and toss naturally and the voice/timbre mixes effortlessly..

You need a hook.
in general.
You need hooks.
you have music and arrangement down more so than any musical artist I have ever heard Sean.

But that american sugar pop is lacking..
and I don't know if I should commend you or hug you.
but just know it's not about what people (like me especially) think about your music

It's really about what you want.
If I was with you I would drop hooks. Guitar wise.. Vocally... Spoken Poetry.

This is sooo freaking ethereal... and I will try and write something.. but I would prefer to meet your face.

lol - and to think I often feel like I'm compromising too much already! I've been on a quest for accessibility since beginning performance long time ago. Got into melody making because there were enough drums, and most people don't hear it in percussion. I know exactly what you mean (I think, but you tend to write in poetry, so interpretations can be subjective), and to really achieve accessibility it's what I'm going to have to do.

I suspect I'm still in physical rebellion, as you can hear the sonic results. The mind is willing, but the fingers on the buttons seem to have a will of their own - lol.

We need to talk. Really sit down and have an aural/oral discussion about music. I remain far too intuitive, and your ground and perspective could help me a lot. Someone said a while back that I'd never be mainstream, but there's nothing to prevent me grabbing on to their curtails. Perhaps the American Sugar Pop will make me sticky enough to attach?

somehow your song titles actually evoke a sense of fear in me. i'm not sure - oh now i remember. it's your freaky to the core psychadelic tracks!!!! AND i remember last time i mentioned being totally throughly truly through and through FREAKIN FREAKED OUT WHILE LISTENING TO YOUR TRACK i think you took it as in bad freaked out, but i mean this: OMG YOUR MUSIC IS AMAZING. I'VE NEVER HEARD MUSIC THAT MAKES ME FEEL LIKE THIS, AND IT IS POSSIBLY THE MOST moving me right off my feet force I've ever heard. I want to play this sort of milestone music for people.

In fact, I just did. Here's how it went.

So I asked "so does this music just freak you out? It just like puts its fingers into my soul and just ..... {wiggles fingers} Don't worry it's not harsh or anything." {I hand the headphones over} {minutes go by} "So is it freaky?" ... "I LOVE. It's real, real good. I love it." "Wow. Huh. Should I get you a copy?" "Yeh. Um. Maybe you should try and put some fingers in your soul."

Collab!! Let's start something.

If you've got the time! Great work. Cheers bro.

Well Ken, you know me - got to push those boundaries and rattle the cage. My current project is titled - Music to have a Rebellion To - so a certain amount of apprehension and even fear is a healthy sign. Serious stuff, but if we remember to breathe and dance when possible, it's going to be all right. I'll be shooting you an email regarding collabs, so keep your eyes open for that. Honestly, I'm surprised by your reaction here, but I'm going with previous conversations about the periphery and will continue to follow the Muse. I think we might be experiencing a particularly fuzzy boundary moment, so push your own stuff too! Things feel like they're aligning. Cheers!

Your music seems to be coming from the depths of the Earth, progressively growing and reaching the surface. It's amazing how this one(and most of your work) is evocating(not sure about this word in English, lol)to me.

StÃÂphane - the word in English is "evocative" but I know exactly what you mean. It also ties into what I've consciously been exploring lately, namely how internal states can be brought forth into external ones - evocation is the key! Salook a while back did a track about shamanism and invoked me in his description, so I'm finding your review particularly provocative. There's definitely a tendency for me to reach into the Earth's energy looking for points of inspiration. I seem to continue to have one foot grounded in the realm of low-tech with the other in high-tech. Thanks for the review and the fave! Cheers friend, from Sean
