This definitely has the classic funk groove that is what I like about classic hip hop, as well as more modern influences... the synthesizers sound specifically "updated." This is far more complex than most hip hop that I've heard, which is cool, especially since you mixed it so well. Is this actually your vocal work? Well, either way it sounds really good in the context! Makes me think of the rap coming out of Minneapolis recently, such as Sims or Mixed Blood Majority... Both are pretty cool if you haven't listened to them yet! Thanks for sharing this awesome track! Faved!
cool intro...really like the mix of the higher & fatter orchestral bits...and the smoother than usual beats easily make this one a crossover type track Pete...new or old school, its just good listening over my way...can`t honestly claim to be a rap fan, but your vocal is really well done...great job...I think this is the first time I hit the fav button on a hip hop mix....cheers....Ed
How did I miss this so long ago?! This is crazy cool! Just placed my first song in the Ska genre here on Looperman, and wanted to see what else was in there. Found this track which is so awesome, and then a bunch of others which were not ska at all... mine probably sort of sits in between, so I'll leave it there for now. The performances on this song are so sweet and pleasing to the ears! Love it so much! Hope you are well! Fave!
Thanks sir, yes this is one of my first productions using loops and samples and moving away from sequencers, and one of the first songs I posted on Looperman many years ago.
Hi Bigpete, gripped me from the start with that intro! love the subtle plucks in the back, feel the main synth drops in to loud in the levels overall but a damn nice retro style sound which i love it, that 1,48 timing switch was wicked mate, changed the whole atmos in the design without jumping off course, really nice work Pete!!!
thanks for the great feedback, indeed I made the synths a bit loud but I just loved the sound too much, thanks again for the feedback I really appreciate.
Oh yeah, cool intro! This is definitely just as the description says! I find it hard to believe that no one has commented in this long! Reminds me very much of Skinny Puppy which is just a wonderful thing for my ears! It has a nice raw edge to it, and a minimal sort of complexity (if that makes sense). I always hear something different when visiting your page, and that's a good thing, but this is definitely one of my faves!
Welcome to my dark side, lol. Thanks man I appreciate, need to get that aggression out once in a while and it feels good. I think you might enjoy the video for the track. http://youtu.be/ckvAXoe95AE
I like the strings and acoustic combo in the beginning. Very neat rhythms afterward. Pulsing and deadly. Good bass tone. Some very twisted spoken word stuff. Organ is pretty tastefully done here. Good organ sound. That stomping percussion is nice.
Guitar solo is raw and very fitting. great.
Synth soloing lead to follow is awesome and funky with some emotion put in.
There is a forum thread for this kind of track. This was a great listen!
wow Evan, than you so much for your kind words, I appreciate you taking the time to listen and feedback, I dod all kind of music but this track is really more my personality, thank you again.
Nice flow here . I like the way this piece seems to capture me as I listen deeper into this track. so many elements working well together. good job on this one!
Pretty cool stuff. VOX fits fairly well. I am not the biggest fan of the Auto tune or whatever is distorting the vocal at times. Over all pretty cool though.
Not sure if I've ever commented on one of your tracks before. Pity you didn't describe the instruments and what you're doing here as it helps me evaluate what's going on. So I'll just have to guess.
Pleasant piano intro. Acoustic guitar that I think might be VST plus a lead, emotive one on top. Then another panned to the left but a bit strummier.
Drums and piano playing a good melody.
It's a fat rock kit you have here. Have you got it sort of reverse panned? I ask because hat is on the right and ride/bell cymbal on the left, the opposite way round. Not a problem, I just wondered. Busy kick and it's a snare sound I like.
2:27 little drum pause but good the way the strummy guitar continues. Then we get some far out lead synth and strings added to the two other guitars in the mix. This is a big, thick mix - the kind I like and like to do myself.
3:32 good brass rise.
4:08 sax that I think must be a real one. Your playing? I have no way of knowing. It's good.
4:41 guitar solo has too agressively screaming a sound. Playing's pretty good but the sound really dominates the mix. Seems to push everything else back.
This is big and heavy due to the busy mix but also kind of chilled out. Sort of pumping emotive rock. Nice bookend as well with the return to the piano. I do that sort of stuff a lot in my own music.
Mix is good and my only problem is that guitar solo so well done.
