Hey this is pretty fresh stuff! I like the energetic bass line very much! The varied and intense collection of synth lines really flow together and add up to a potent listening experience! I would agree that there isn't much sub action going on, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. Much of the instrumentation is more low-mid frequency. Possibly a more sub heavy kick could be used instead of, or in addition to your current kick in certain sections? If you did use both in certain areas, you could EQ or filter the new one to handle the very low frequencies primarily, while the other has some low cut going on. Just a thought. I really enjoyed this, and I could see it being expanded further to good results. Very fun to hear! Fave!
Oh wuuutt... That intro was certainly unique.. Unexpected, a hint of the insane whilst also childlike (Think evil, innocent-looking, insane child).. The drums have a live-drum feel to them.. The evil Chucky vibe carries on throughout, I like... Has a heavy metal feeling towards the end..
My preference would like to hear more breaks, but I loves me a sh** ton of breaks, breaks everywhere, breaks for bars, breaks for everyone! XD.. You can ignore that, the tune is solid without them XD
Well done dude, it was good enough for me to want to play it twice :) keep at it.
I feel you on the breaks. After posting and listening (totally ass backwards), I hear a couple spots that I want to chop up a tad. This was straight angst that spawned from a crap day. Really glad you dug it man.
Great foundation for a song. Love the groove. Love how other instruments join the bass as the song goes on. I wish you all the best with a collab on this one. Dan
Very well produced track you made here. Love how you put in the synths to give that spacelike funky feeling. I definetly agree that vocals would fit perfectly here. There is enough talent here so hope to hear this track again with vocals soon! Good luck!
Thanks Mudhoen. I've already gone and taken some posted suggestions and I'm trying to let things soak in for a bit, The wife and kids are out of town, so it is nice not to feel rushed just to try to start and finish something in an evening. As for talent on here, you're absolutely right. You're part of it. Still go back and listen to Windrunner...it's that no frills, dark but uplifting trance that got me into this stuff years ago. And I'm guessing most, if not all, from scratch.
I'd cut that fade out at the end and go for it ending on that beat.
That way this is powerful from beginning to end.
That weedy weak trickle at the end doesn't belong in such a thumping piece.
Go out with a bang.
Haha! No longest delay tail fade out of all time?! Yeah, that's the first thing to go. It was annoying just trying to find the end of it so I could render while I'm thinking "Oh, this is going to go over like a whore in church." Thanks for both of your comments. This was a very rough draft that I put out just to see if I could get a vocalist' attention. Will probably have to put some more work into though.
Power play!
Party in town tonight.
This sounds very very professionally put together.
I go with lyrics idea too.
Female raw randy and ready kinda sound.
I couldn't help but sing that brothers Johnson song- get the funk up outta my face. it goes with this beat for sure. love me some funk. diggin this one right here.
This is good stuff and I can hear a powerful, well produced sound as soon as that drum fill kicks in.
Guitar and bass are real tight and well matched to each other and the drums are busy, with good fills and dynamics. A rather nice, chillout ambient synth sound begins with the guitar and bass and adds some extra depth and quite an 80s feel.
0:21 I'm less keen on that new synth sound though many people will either like it or won't mind it.
This feels a lot like a 70s far out funk workout but with a more modern powerful twist and fat rock drummer.
As the track progresses, I think I'm hearing too many of the exact same drum fills. They're all good but I can tell they've just been copied and pasted. Yes, I do that a lot too but also spend ages varying them just a bit to provide variety and give them more of a human feel.
Another slight problem with them is that they stay on the same closed hat throughout. Moving to ride or open hat would provide more variety and take the track up and down much better. So: good drums but they could benefit from more variety.
Synths get a bit more 'soloey' and far out as things progress.
I se you want vocals so if you get them I know this will progress and change perhaps quite a bit.
Nice panned synth fadeout ending.
Overall: creative well produced work that deserves a good vocal. But, even without, it can still be a great instrumental and overall enjoyable piece.
Thank you for the detailed response. It is always welcome.
Yes, I am hoping for vocals so I did this at a bare minimum, for now. My original intent was to be able to add/arrange/rearrange as the vocals called for, but we all know how that goes sometimes.
I am still on the fence about the synth sound you mentioned. It is a MiniMoog (well, MiniMogueLUXUS) at it's most basic with some filter/pan mod and delay. It's the same sound as the lead parts, but may not work as well played as chords. I'm going for that "when synths first got popular" vibe, so not trying to go too over the top there.
I agree about the drums. Most of the fills are slightly different, but I may have gone too subtle. As for the hi hat, I originally went to the ride, but back to the hi hat thinking that if and when I add a bridge I'd use it there. Listening to some of the old funk, I often wondered if the drummer even had a ride...kick, snare, hi hat, done haha But yeah, good idea.
As this is a work in progress, while I wait to see if anyone wants to hop aboard with vocals, I'll be working on it. I don't want to bombard Looperman with too many versions...even though I have been guilty of that in the past :)
I can relate to this experience of a project morphing away from original concept. I am listening to this on crappy laptop internal speakers and it still sounds good. But I don't get any nuanced differential in bass frequencies on this laptop anyway. I suppose there is an ideal plugin to resolve your sub-bass dilemna but I could not tell you what it is. Excellent work and thoroughly enjoyed. Regards - Dan

Thanks. I may end up doing that. I was going to upload it as a loop, but discovered it didn't qualify as a loop and I don't have loop upload access yet. New here and still learning the guidelines.
