I like the sound. Reminds me of the old arcade games! I do agree with Byleth, usually 8bit tunes like this usually have more fun with melodies running wild, you may want to try that for future projects to keep it more interesting. Overall, great work! Could definitely hear this to a video game.

I was trying to learn how to program a game, hell even point and click games. No matter what I'd find, they all took years before I'd finish a game.

But then again, thanks a lot! I'll try spicing things up in this track and to other tracks in the album.

Cheers

I've got zero experience in making chiptune, but I really quite enjoyed this - especially since I played a lot of arcade and console gammes in the 90's :)

Hello, first I wish you the best of success. im not good with 8bit chiptune but I could maybe help you a bit :

first, based on all the chiptune I have heard the tempo is usually fast.

Second, they play alot with the pinch, don't be afraid to be wide with your main melody

Third, some of the work seems to use slides notes.

Fourth, this is more a advice than a technique but I remember when I was trying to make my first industrial metal track. I simply listen a colossal amount of industrial metal. So if that could help you I recommend you to watch this video and maybe try to watch some of Chipmusic Weekly video here one

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YWI8cTHozs there are a lot of chiptune track from this guy.

Finally, since i try to train my mastering skills its could be awesome to allow me to master your track just for training, I will not distribute the track useless you want. I will also give you a copie. pm me if you are interested.

Peace.

p.s your test isn't a complete waste you could convert it into a intro.

Whats up Byleth!
Yes, the tempo of most chiptunes are 200 above but in this track, I used 95 instead. I'm not used in high BPMs since they're harder to control. Maybe on the other tracks in this album I'd give it about 210 or more BPM.

Sure, I'll try improving the melody/melodies.

I'll try adding some slide notes and see if it fits.

I've watched two videos so far since you told me. I can see it uses ALOT of chiptune sound effects. I'll download some effects when I get the time. Also, I have to spice up the drums and the arps a bit according to the tracks.

Thanks btw. And do you mean I'll give you a copy of the file of the track or the mp33 itself? Just reply to me in Pms

Thanks again, cheers

I like the minimalistic way of the song
I'll see a good female voice over it
maybe in a funny way singing, like a jingle or something
see ya

A female vocal? It's really hard to find vocals that would fit on the chord and tempo of the song, but I'll try!

Very cool track...reminds me a style called new-wave... 'agressive' drums in a good way...ear friendly synth work...great...

I like this banging stamping cartoon anger!
I get anger but anger with humour.
It's almost joyful but angry.
How that works I don't know.
Criticism: Needs a bit more variety.

Ah yes, the variety xD
Let's hope that I could give this one another try :3

Thanks for the feedback!

I like it! I am not that familiar with the genere, so can't give you much feedback. I thought the mix is good, and the volume of the different parts is nicely balanced. For some reason towards the end of the song I got a bit bored with the piano, for me abit too much repetition, but then again - I am not an expert :)
bitronix
bitronix replied 28th Mar 2016 - 9 years ago
Actually, people like you are the ones who gives really great feedbacks the most, since I aim my songs for my audiences, just like other loopers here :)
Eh, about that piano part, I got really lazy in the ending since I just copy and pasted mostly and just variated just a little from that part.
Anyways, thaks for commenting on an old song!

Very pleasing and uplifting piece here! Has a kind of modern pop vibe, which I wouldn't normally listen to - but it also reminds me of popular music from other eras enough to get me into it. I was reading the comments regarding sidechaining... since you use FL, you are in luck! I find that sidechain sort of work is one of FL's strengths in recent versions. If you haven't worked with Peak Controller, then I suggest you start experimenting with it. Compared to gross beat, there are almost endless things which can be done with it, since you can control almost any parameter with the peak/envelope of any sound in the mixer... plus it includes a nice LFO. One of my favorite ways to sidechain with more subtlety is to place a peak controller on one mixer track (such as a kick drum), and make sure to turn of the "mute" so you can still hear the track... Then I'll place an EQ (like fruity PEQ2) on another track (such as bass or synth pads)... if you set up a low cut or low shelf on the EQ, and then link the gain of that band to the "peak" output of the peak controller (using "inverted" for the formula in the link to controller dialog), you can sidechain just that EQ band instead of an all encompassing gain like in gross beat. Just tune the proper frequency on the EQ band, and tune the settings of the peak controller to taste... keep in mind that with the inverted formula, you will need to adjust the "base" setting in peak controller to a more centered setting, or else the gain on the EQ band will peak REALLY HIGH. This is nice for leaving mid and high frequencies alone while providing space in the low frequencies for the kick drum and similar situations. Sorry to ramble about that, it's just a technique that I love to use. Either way, I like the composition of this track, and it was fun to hear. Thank you for sharing!

Thanks for the feedback! I'll try my best to understand what you've just said (because I'm not familiar with most of the functions you have said, but I've already seen them.)
I'll try that technique if I've experimented on such.
By the way, thanks for the compliment, and cheers!

The easiest way to use sidechain on fl studio is with gross beat. Just put on every synth the sidechain option(left below corner) and adjust the lowest point of the wave to somewhere between -1,5db - -3db and there you have your sidechain. If you like the way you did the snare roll then keep it. You are the one making the track so you decide. I like the track as it is. Well done!
bitronix
bitronix replied 5th Mar 2016 - 9 years ago
Thanks for letting me know! I was using fruity love philter and did a sidechain and I was like "Where are the kicks? I can't hear em'"
I tested, I won't really clear the sba4e roll, cuz if I did, the drop would to appear random.
Thanks by the way!

You have created a very smooth and chilling dance track. The melody is great and the chosen synths fit like a glove.

There are a few things which easily might improve this track. You have a very nice snare roll in the build up but on 1:46 suddenly you have another short snare roll after that. You should really delete it as it takes away the mood of the track. Just let it drop in as soon as the snare roll ends. Furthermore I believe you dont use sidechaining in your track. It is very important because then your drums get more room to punch. I am not sure which DAW you use but on youtube there are a lot of tutorials on how to do it. For the rest its a realy nice track and full of potential.

bitronix replied 1st Mar 2016 - 9 years ago
Thanks!
Idk, for me the snare roll fits too but I'll check if its better without it.
I've did sidechaining on some other songs I did (not uploaded here) but I d9n't know if I am right in using it. I use Fruit Love Philtet, turning the wave low to high volume shape (a short rise) then looping the effect for the whole synth (I haven't actually tried using it on kicks)
I'm not sure if I am gonna remove the snare roll but I'm pretty sure I'll add sidechain.
I'm gonna update this ASAP
THANKS FOR YET ANOTHER FEEDBACK! U DA BEST

It's always fresh to hear a piano in the mix - and yours is kicking just right. WOW! great mix. you have a good sense of timing when to bring things down and then back up again with some variation - new synth for example. that was interested "revealing" one of your sounds a capella at the end. nice work. best regards.

nice concept, if you want some constructive feedback.Read the following text: I expected you to add more synths or instruments for the round 1 (1:06) part and 2 (2:22)part because at this moment it is mainely the same sounds.

Also, the part at 0:11 min is quite rude maybe a fade in for the main synth would be great.

In overall, I like the structure, the concept, the main beat and the voice well integrated with the structure and song.

7.4/10 could be a easy 8.0/10 if you fix the rude transition at 0:11 min and 9.2/10 if you add some great other instruments (synths).

Peace
