Your guitar loops are always so good, so when I see the title "Rectifier" on your track page......well.....I had to give this one a go.
And you did not disappoint.
Man, great tone, great clarity, and great technique. The drums are impressive too. Overall, I'd have to say this track is about as good as it gets. As for the tempo, I love the slower feel....but I'm an old guy and fast just doesn't work anymore, haha.
Thanks for the review man. Yea I dig the slower stuff alot more myself these days. It waxes and wanes lol. I wish I could actually get a decent sound out of my Triple Rec. I don't record anything with a mic so the straight in from the head to my rig and stomp boxes becomes overkill. I mainly use just a floor multi fx with amp modeling, that then goes into the input. Also with the head I pickup so much background noise it's frustrating. Even now I get too much for my taste. If I could go back and redo this track I would use some of the newer techniques I've learned. Double up the guitars. Try to get the bass more in there. Boost some of the highs a bit more on the pre mix before taking it to final mix and master.
Thanks for the review man, also another drum compliment will always make my day. I'm horrible with the drum programming stuff. Cheers :D
This is a cracking piece of cinematic music, definitely captures an elevated and drifting feeling, space is a lonely place for the Omega astronaut...great visual track, faved and a definite download, great track to unwind to, thanks for sharing, will be sure to check out more of your musical offerings. cheers.
Sorry for the late reply. Thanks for coming by and listening. The Omega Astronaut, where the hell was that title when I was working on this track lol. I'm sure if I rip off Matheson someone might be on to me. Thanks for the review, Cheers :D
I love that you used something "non-Western" for the melody intro. I like it when it's not assumed to be a NASA reality. And I really dig how if you listen closely, you can here the MIDI - reflects that dynamic evolution of music and technology utterly appropriate in this context.
Haunting, and provocative. So glad I came by to check out your work!
Sorry for the late reply n0mad, sent ya an email earlier regarding the BondVaga Satellite track. I haven't heard this song in such a long time that I forgot about the Koto. Like most, if not all stringed instruments, midi doesn't do it justice. I don't know when I heard a real koto for the first time. I remember a song by Dave Brubeck that may of had a koto. I also watched alot of anime and samurai/ninja/kung-fu movies that might of had some koto stuff. Whenever I heard it though, it was just an awesome sound. Wish I owned a real one though.
Thanks for checking it out and sending me the video link also. Cheers :D
Love the tempo. It's like hammering spikes into a railroad with a sledgehammer. Love the tone of your guitar and the riffs. Drums are so heavy and realistic sounding. Excellent song MCHN!!
Sorry for the late reply man. Thanks for listening. I was never someone that messed with tone really. Kinda have a punk attitude towards it. Not so much like that now(kinda miss the plug in and play days). I miss doing more metal stuff. Probably the drum sequencing that hinders the idea. Hopefully something will get put together in the future. I've been saying that for a long time it seems lol. Cheer's and thanks for checking it out man.
totally understand your feeling about "wanting to be done with it" i'm the same way - achieved what I wanted with a project and need to move on. of course there is always room to enhance, expand. anyway - great sounds and balance between them. great feel. actually this might work as a loop? for some nice angry RAP! keep up the great work. midisparks
Thanks for the review midisparks. Yea, I have in the past dragged out tracks to longer points, but sometimes not really reaching the peak again that I started with. Not to say that every song in the universe needs that kinda start - middle - end formula. I kinda build it up in my head that way though lol. Great idea on looping it out man. I will put these out for loops soon. Cheers and thanks for the review :D
FILTH!!! PIG!!! That's all I thought when I first heard the drums come in. Sounds like a bit like Ministry but with better synths and a more NIN flavored guitar. I'm favoriting this one dude. Only thing is that those guitar part's are not completely in sync with the rest of the song. Specifically when the guitar first comes in. Just tweak it a bit and it'll be fine. Excellent riffs and tones on all the instruments. Very impressive. ;)
Thanks again for another review man. Had to go find Filth Pig for a listen. Been ages since I heard that song. Now I can see the connection lol. Ministry comparisons are always good though. Most of the heavy guitar sounds are just synths with amp emulation and distortion. The first weird guitar synthy thing with the wah wah sound on it never sat right with me. At the time I thought 'Awesome', then I kinda thought, wtf lol. It would be cool to go back and track guitars over those parts and do some better drum programming. Someday maybe. Cheers and thanks for the review and fave. :D
Excellent song. Great layering of melodies. The sounds you chose were exhilarating to hear. And unlike RawHead, I wish this song was a LOT longer. Good little piece nonetheless.
Thanks for the review man. Longer is good, but coming at it with a more harder approach kinda left only a trip to the more ambient side. I don't have the ability to keep people locked in with my ambient industrial stuff yet. Gonna try soon though lol. Thank you and Cheers for the review. :D
Nice work..definetely has that NIN vibe..I wasnt aware that Trent did the Quake stuff but i am very familiar with the Doom game soundtrack that he did (also by id software).
very cool track, just wish it was a bit longer.
Thanks for the review. Quake 1 soundtrack was just a huge part of that game. Trent also did sound design in it also. Nailgun ammo boxes had the NiN logo. Was crazy fun. Doom 3 theme was pretty cool also. Tweaker(Chris Vrenna) did that game. Love id soft's music choices lol.
This track was gonna be a bit longer but extending it into just ambient sounds didn't sound to appealing to me later on. Might have to pace a similar track better and have the heavy part be the build up.
•Simply saying "cool track" is a nice thought but not much help
too bad - because this is defo cool. Might added a little volume to the keyboards on the first solo run and that's not a criticism. Liking the guitar...real nice at 3:30 or so. really good demo mate.
Thanks for the review. There's still some rough parts here and there that I think can be cleaned up a bit. Might have to re-record some guitar parts to get a brighter sound. Add some variety percussion wise. I was still trying to bask in the glory of finishing an idea lol. Been a bit since I got a track done from start to finish. Cheers and thanks for the review.
Thanks for the review. Yea the first version I put up was just dull as hell. Bothered me listening to it later on. Still not really to happy with the low end sounds. I have a sub bass and another bass mixed together so I might have to seperate and tweak them separately. Gonna have to remix and re record some stuff. Cheers man, and thanks for the review :D
First off, the song is amazing. The drum is perfect with every musical variation you put around it. The sinking feeling that i get makes me want to sing about dreams, sleep, and love with a women. So, can i write lyrics and send them to you combined with this track? i would love to show you what i have. I would need your permission of course. Good job, keep up the skills.
One thing i would like to add...needs a hook somewhere. The hook can go off the same beat and melody, but i say add something powerful. Passionate, like some violin with a symphony to break away and let the listener feel the power of love. And then the soft melody can roll back in after a fade out of the hook so the peace that the lover feels comes back into the story.
or, you can emphasize on the bongos and add more of a bongo mash for the hook. So the hook gains more power, but don't overdue it you know? This was the hook isn't too far off from the rest of the song. The bongos can be free styled.
These are my thoughts. What do you think?
I will be writing and recording this week. I will email you on your user email with the finished demo when it's ready.
Sorry for the late reply. This track usually seems to fly off the radar as far as reviews and replies go. Your free to use it. If you need a higher bit rate or the source files, drop me a email through the contact members page. Cheers and thanks for the review :D
Thanks for the review John. Soundtrack to a post apocalyptic film, love those ideas. With the way things are happening in the current world event, I might have a documentary to score sadly. Cheers for the review :D
Thank you for the review. Sorry for my very late reply(two months+ later). Glad you liked it. This is only one of a handful of early tracks I still keep around. Mainly for a precursor of what I still want to try to achieve. Not quite there yet, but everyday still gives me chills at what can be done these days. Cheers and thanks for the fave and download. :D
Yea the track 'Major Tom' always comes to mind quick on this. Theme wise I think man-kind has run the course(war, death, happiness etc..) but music wise, still has alot of ideas left untapped. Not from me though lol. Cheers and thanks for the review.
