Just in time for halloween. Like the fly buzzing around. Very erie. All my dreams are disconcerting. The docter said it would be that way after the open heart surgery. Been 4 or 5 years and the dreams are still weird. I may have to download this and put my boom box by the door and play this over and over while the little trick or treaters come around. I'm a big time horror movie fan so I like this a lot.
Hehe..funny you should say that..last Halloween there's a knock on my door and there before me is four kids trick or treating..I said "Hey that's an American institution last time I checked this is Australia!"..one of the kids turned to his mate and said "I think this is a..Trick!"....lol cheers Dave :)
spooky, dark and magical..my cat is giving me the evils.. sorry Spinach there´s no birds in here to kill ( see the pets forum post ). anyway back to the track.. this took me on a journey, very original some great ideas going on. all the best mik
Hey mate..I heard if you didn't play just right with Miles or give him the respect he demanded he'd clock you one..lol you wouldn't have a problem but I think I'd be ducking and weaving...cheers mate Dave :)
Planet,
This piece freaked me out as well as my cats....
I have the mains on in my studio and the bass is just rockin.
Space Bass.....weirdly cool.
Well done.

I am getting these crazy visions of people doing Tai Chi in a park with the amazing combination of bird noises and the incredible fusion of sounds you hav created.....I think I did review Elaine's original and enjoyed it but you have sculpted and twisted it as only you know how.
Excellent stuff
Trax
Excellent sounds. I love that bass & the darkness it brings. The counterpoint of natural sounds gives this a cool balance. Great piece of work you two. moke
Thank you Bill...I was surprised when I first heard Elaine's track and immediately fell from the ceiling and ran to get my Bat Bass....I would love to play in a cave it would be ..well spooky...cheers planet :).. ps I will be over at your place soon mate!
Hehe..you just gave me an idea Gizz..My music is too off the wall to ever be popular...Maybe I could fill the void by creating piped musak for Asylums..hell,there's thousands of the places..full of crackers...I mean even if it drove a certain percentage crazier..who would notice!.....man I bet I could even get a government grant to do it!...thanks for the idea mate!...cheers planet :)
hey Dave,i totally agree with bilbozo.....experimental,fusion,acid jazz track with cool improvised bass lines and great pads in the background ......now i have to listen to Elaine´s original to get an impression of the basics and how you changed it to this fine result......very good job
cheers,Rob
Thanks Rob..the improvisational side of playing has always attracted me..though I need to sit down and study bebop scales for 10 years to free up my old habits and reactions!...cheers Dave :)
Hey planet jazz, how do you get such a great bass sound?
I know this is live... (right?)
I really like! I like the vocs and the indie feel.
It sounds like it peaks a bit.. but that adds to the indie feel.
lol..
MY perpective.
I write from two places in my gut.
1. Do I want to write a John Lennon song?
or
2. Do I want to write a Brian Wilson song?
(Something I learned from sloan.)
But this is the John Lennon type of song.
I know I am a snot nosed brat. But I respect my elders!
Hey mate thanks for your kind review...There's a couple of areas that effect my bass tone...Firstly I play with my fingers pretty much exclusively so I can get good dynamics with my right hand 80% of your tone happens right here..I also play a lot over the bridge pick-up (on a Jazz Bass)this lets me get heaps of attack..also my pup mix is about 90% Bridge.10% Neck...I only use passive pup's with the treble cranked full on...My strings are (Fretted Bass)D'Addario XL Pro Steels .045-.100 (Fretless)Ernie Ball Custom Gauge 5 String Flatwound .045-.130.....I play the fretless straight through Native Instruments Guitar rig then a compressor in my DAW (Ableton Live)...With my Jazz I first go through an Old Zoom 506 Bass pedal(which I have tweaked to my own herbs and spices) then direct into my interface and a compressor in my DAW....all my playing is live...in this fashion though occasionally I might over lay some Harmonics...I've also hand wound my Jazz's pickups so their super fat and juicy..I've got enough wire I think for about 100 pickups..so I'm set for life!...sometimes I might tweak the tone a bit post production but not very often...hope this answers your question mate..thanks for your interest...cheers planet :)
At first I thought it was going to be a purely ambient kind of track, with the nature sounds and all in the beginning. And then the beat kicked in and, as bchris puts it, I was taken through a yin/yang ride of my life. I wouldn't be surprised if this drove your screen visualization crazy, because this is one crazy chill out track. I can hear this being played in some bar in the city, just as the sun is dipping under the concrete horizon and the gossip and chatter amongst friends is beginning. Or perhaps being played in some alternative shop selling all things strange and wonderful!
Thanks for listening Ria..Elaine has a very interesting perspective when she kicks off her Disco and Funk shoes...I like the visualizations you mentioned..metaphysica is my favourite dalliance..cheers planet :)
This was awesome. I thought for sure this was the fretless again, but apparently I was wrong. Your bass work is brilliant, it fits the song perfectly. You have some very serious talent my friend.
Again, well done on a superb track. I am going to favorite this, I love songs that can just be listened to and have your mind flow, and this is certainly that.
PS - I was thinking, and this may be a bit forward as I am a nube, but do you think a collab with 2 bass parts would be possible? I play a 5 string Modulus Quantum Sweetspot and a 4 string Epiphone Thunderbird (couldn't afford a Gibson at the time). I have heard a band from around where I am that have taken such an endeavor on, and it is very original. Just a thought, but if you would like, I would love to try and put something like that together.
Hey 36..thanks for the kind review...I've never tried a two part bass track before..yes I would love to try that..I'll contact you privately...cheers planet :)
Dark and foreboding, good, messed up kind of vocals. Nice bass work. This is a great track, as all yours are.
Enjoyed this very much. I really need to get through most of your stuff, as I play the bass as well and am always looking at different playing style. I don't have a 5 string fretless, fretted only, so I can't get that cool kind of gwah sound on slides. I admire your work.
Thanks 36....I tried my Fender Jazz first but sometimes that slippery fretless feel suits best...horses for courses I suppose...thanks again for the warm review..Cheers planet :)
Are you playing with a pick? I guess a more highs on the bass would be my prefrence...
Incredibly intricate and dreamy.. cool switch on the rhythms on all parts (the birds, the old dude playing the bass, the drums)..
There's a lot of gold in this one.
;)
Hehe the only time I ever play with a pick is when I play Metal mate..and that doesn't happen very often (twice in living memory)..got the 5 string Fretless happening here mate..when you've got that fat B you gotta use it!..cheers Planet
Yo Planet!!! What a superb song (WOW) blew my mind! The quality is wonderful, fantastic arrangement and your playing is genius!!
This is the tops.. It's great to be back and have my ears thrilled with this level of art. Your pal in blighty! Cheers Slap...
You are way too kind man!I'm so happy that your back slap...You mentioned busking with your son..that is so cool!..The most I ever gave a busker was $10(a brilliant celtic harp player)..I'm sure I would end up broke if I ever came across you guys!!!
Flute sounds reminiscent of a Legend of Zelda game...bass is interesting along with the sweeping FX..very complex sounding..sounds like a little monkey on his very first adventure, all alone..swinging through the trees until he comes to a weird tar-like surface with these blocks on wheels moving at high speeds in every direction..he jumps down to try and cross this obstacle..and meets a little green frog :) and together they make it to the other side...only to be eaten by crocs...
Wow. Definitely a Gran Turismo track 3LEM3NTZ0RK....I don't even know where to start with this....it's really energetic and all the sounds blend in nicely...the definition of Fusion...imagine yourself driving on a mountain road alongside a harbour (track's finished! Replay) with the top down...clear blue skies and sparkling water with the sun on the horizon....BRILLIANT!
Wow as always your guitar work is a pleasure to listen to. Really makes me green with envy (perhaps I'll teach meself the guitar now after listening to many of your tracks lol)
Cheers,
Ria
