Hey, John. Track shows a lot of promise, I think. I particularly liked the dissonant treatment and syncopation of the melody line. Definitely has a Caribbean feel to it. I''m thinking that it needs more bottom end on it, or maybe something like a synth wash to mesh it together, but I'm not sure. I've listened to it a couple of times now and am appreciating it more each time I listen.
OK. I really like where this track is going. I'm probably not the right guy to collab on it with you, but I'm definitely interested in hearing how it turns out.
I'd like to hear what it turns into myself. I have no skills when it comes to making beats. But, If I knew half of what some of these people know, it would be over!!!!!
Glad you checked it out and like it. Wasn't sure anyone would. Also glad you like the drums. They are an Alesis electronic kit. My acoustic Ludwigs are just not feasible to use with this situation.
Speak for yourself, Leverett! Winter may be over for you in Italy, but here in Ottawa, we are expecting 15 cm of snow tonight. Winter won't be over until probably May, BUT your great track might just cause it to come sooner! :)
I loved the vocoder part. Very nicely done. Would have downloaded the track if that had been allowed. This is definitely one that should be featured on Loopradio.net
Thanks for the kind words and... sorry about the snow :) It's quite warm already here in Italy.
The track is now available for download, I didn't make it before 'cause I cut the fade out at the end by mistake and I waited to upload a correct export.
I can definitely hear this track with a singer and a rapper. It's one of those tracks where my mind can't help but start playing around with possible melodies. For me, that's the mark of a track that really connects.
I think the audio output level is a bit low on it, but perhaps you are leaving headroom for the rappers and singer? I'd be inclined to re-master it to give it a few more db. Looking forward to seeing/hearing if you get collaborators on it. Definitely a good one!
YES!!! Great track, Simon224. Sounds like something I'd have made, if I knew how to do dubstep. Where did you get the spoken word? This was great fun! Cinematic!
Just had to post one last time this evening before I go to bed.
I've been playing your track non-stop for the last 3 hours. Brought it into Logic and have been having so much fun playing along with it, adding brass, more strings, lead synths, etc. Everything I try actually detracts from it, instead of adding to it. The more I play the track, the more I realize how beautifully crafted it is. It is gorgeous, like a finely woven tapestry.
Thanks again Eric for the addition (and please accept my apologies for not having responded any sooner). The fact that you realize there's not a lot to add, makes me think that the track is almost finished. On the other hand, if you feel the urge to play around with it, it indicates to me that something's still missing... Just read your PM and will answer this now.
Doc: OK. This track is far better than I could create, but I am going to offer some very respectful suggestions. I realize that critiques of this type are very rare on Looperman, so I hope this doesn't make me into a a "baddie". I'm doing this because I liked your track very very much and it left me wanting for more.
So, first of all, I loved the instrumental track. It was, in my view, exceptionally good. It could stand on it own a a really fine piece of music. However, I didn't feel that KnowKontrol's acapellas fit very well in your composition. That's not a criticism of his vocals, which I think are excellent. He knows I feel this way about his stuff. I've used them, and valued them, myself in a recent track. It's just that, to my ears, they didn't really "jell" in your composition. I think the the piece would have been stronger without them, frankly.
So, I'd urge you to post a version of the same track without the vocals. I'm serious about this. I'd love to have that in my playlist. I'm being a bit selfish in suggesting that because all the time I was listening to it, my mind was playing around with ideas for a melody line. This track has great potential.
Hope you aren't offended by my comments or suggestions. I wish I'd composed this track. I'd be quite pleased with myself if I had. :)
Thanks for your comments Eric. I highly appreciate the time and effort you have put in listening to and commenting on the track. Don;t worry about being a baddie :-). I always appreciate feedback, positive as well as negative. This is for me the most important way to learn and get better in doing what i love so much.
About the vocals, this has been my first track that has received so many opposite views on such a specific part of the track. Some people (like you) would suggest to leave the vocals out, some love them in this context. I am more than happy to share an instrumental version only with through my SoundCloud account. No problem at all.
And don't worry I don't get offended that easlity anymore nowadays :-).
I agree with Yumwum. This is a great sounding track and it seems to be calling out for vocals on it. Thanks for allowing downloads. I'll be playing this on my iPhone as I ride the bus to work tomorrow. :)
Yes! Another good track! Great feel on this one. I don't know how you get all those sounds. I like listening to dub step, but have no idea how to make a track like this.
Hey, Leon. I like the sound of this track. I've downloaded it with idea that I might attempt a remix, if you don't mind. It reminds me a bit of a Kate Bush song, don't remember the name. Had a really great music video. I'll let you know if I do something with it.
So, I'm sitting in my office at work, listening to your track while I'm trying to edit a report on enforcement approaches for consumer protection agencies. I'm not being very successful, because I keep getting distracted by your most excellent music. (Don't tell my boss!) I don't think this multi-tasking is going to work! :) I'll just have to stop the editing. Your music is much more interesting.
So glad we have been able to distract you with this track and glad you like. Hope we have made your editing more bearable...and don't worry we will keep it from your boss!.
Very, very nice track. I love the instrumentation. I want to add opera type vocals to it! Unfortunately, can't sing at all. But I can hear the sound in my head.
Got me moving right away! And smiling! This track has a really nice sprit. A sense of humour I think. Mix sounds really good on my headphone. Very good separation/placement of instruments in the frequency spectrum.
Definitely has a late night, laid-back, winding-down feel to it. Really liked it. Its the kind of music that I like when I just need to disconnect from all the stresses of work etc., turn down the lights, and let my thoughts go where they will.
Eddie: Yes, it IS good!!!! As Danke said continuous headbanging. Definitely a good track. My advice is to step back from it a bit for a while, then see if you get some ideas on how to extend it. That doesn't always work for me. I take forever finishing a track, but it might work for you. This is good stuff!
Thank you for listening! I will most definitely be stepping back and taking a look at this tune a little closer. This will give me good practice on chord progressions/breaks/build-ups like Danke was saying. The "drops" or "grooves" or w/e people call them, come a lot easier than something that has been thought about and melodically conjured up, at least for me anyways. I will take both of your feedback and post back later :)
Just found this track, referenced by Patricia. Beautiful melody and beautiful tone. Piano work, whoever did it, was just right. I will add this to my playlist for sure! It's strange, and kind of wonderful, how when we do a composition, the feelings we have at the time of composition inevitably come out through the music. Somebody once said something like, "with music you can always tell how the composer was feeling". I think you were feeling somewhat melancholy, but there was something very special as well. I think it was love. It certainly was something good.
xVeteranReaperx: Just noticed that Patricia's profile says she definitely is NOT available for collaborations, so I guess my idea for that is a non-starter. I should have checked before mentioning it. Was more of passing thought than a real proposal anyway. I have noticed that contributors that release music professionally, such as Patricia and Falisha, often aren't available for collabs. They probably get many requests because their stuff is so good.
Ye I saw it to, But I sent her a message anyway. Not a demanding one, but more as an option. So If she reads, I guess that's good :) Well well, Let's keep looking for a singer!
Btw, If you want, send me a PM with some form of quick messager you use so we can stay in touch :)

Although I think the scratchy record sound on my track was almost as good! :)
I assume you played the drums live. I no longer have a drum set and couldn't find any samples with the right cymbal sound. You had it nailed, though.
Nice work.
Glad you checked it out and like it. Wasn't sure anyone would. Also glad you like the drums. They are an Alesis electronic kit. My acoustic Ludwigs are just not feasible to use with this situation.
Checking out your track, now.
Cheers,
