Butcha, it's been a while my friend, and I can see in the time I've been away, you have been polishing your skills to a high shine. Damn dude, you have always been good, but you are rapidly approaching world class with this one. Everything is absolutely perfect. You are still setting the standards around here and it's nice to see.
Props my friend to one hell of a track. Hope 2011 is one of your best years ever.
Jamie, I have the opportunity at times to work with great guitar players, so I recognize great talent when I hear it...this piece places you at top of my favorite guitarist list.
I love fusion, especially music that has a Pat Metheny vibe to it. This is stellar work on many different levels. Truly a wonderful listen. I have to download, and of course, faved it as well.
Good stuff mate. Great backing track on this one - really well played. I liked your vocal work, nice and solid.
My only suggestion comes on the production end of things, perhaps you could put a stereo effect on your vox.....that will allow you to "spread" them out wider over the frequencies and they will set better in the mix. That's minor stuff, because from start to finish, this is really good.
First, let me say your vocal work is nothing short of stunning, absolutely exquisite. Spot on and not a flaw in the entire performance. I can see where this one would have been a bear to mix and master. You have a lot going on and it would be difficult to get everything setting properly in the mix.
But you managed somehow to do that as well. As I listen closely in the headphones, it seems that the balance of the sounds trend to the left, but that is just me nit picking.
This is wonderful and goes to my favorites. I do love your voice. Well done, extremely well done.
You know, my m-audio recording device has always veered some to the left. And I think I experimented with some L/R effects in the mix to create a more full, surround w/ surround sound. So it might have gotten away from me a bit. Thanx. I'll check that out.
First let me say, I'm not a huge hip hop fan, but if all hip hop sounded like this, I would be :)
Your production is absolutely crystal clear, I'm talking just about as good as it gets. Great drum work, great pacing, great build. I would say this one is ready for prime time.
I'm amazed by what you were able to accomplish with only 12 seconds of piano work. I would love to hear more of your work. There are a lot of great rappers on this site that probably would love to hear more as well.
This is definitely on my favorite list....not because it's my loop, but because of your talent. Well done!!!
appreciate it bro thanks alot trust me i have more on the way plus im a rapper myself so i really know what a rapper wants to hear but keep postin them samples and i got u
much love L
While this is hip hop, it is also great fusion of different styles and instruments. Something that is not easily done. You just might be creating your own unique niche within a genre that doesn't have a lot of originality.
Really great concept and really well done. Props to all involved, but especially you for putting it all together. Top notch production as well.
This is really nice Donnie. If not a full orchestra, this one is really suited well for a nice string treatment, and tymponies, and maybe a big bass drum.
But then you could add a brass section as well.
Man, now I can hear an entire orchestra on this. I think Dave hit the nail on the head. It is rare when a single instrument can carry a piece, but you accomplished that and did it well.
Prech that mate. Ya know, this one is open for collab. So if you were wanting to take this & add those things ya mentioned above, you'd be more than welcome to. I also love how flex this is (stand alone or with other things). Glad ya dug it. Lates!
Hey DV, I think I have to concur with the others. First off, great mix and treatment of vocals and drums. Everything is setting nicely in the mix. It would be awesome to hear this one filled out a bit in the middle section of the song with horns, strings, maybe even a bit more percussion....
make it sound like a huge party :)
But it works really well the way it is too. I would say your first use of pellas off this site is a resounding success. Maybe it's time to play with a few more (just a suggestion, ha).
Great advice mate. This was more of an experiment than anything else. Was mostly wanting to get the gist of the 'flow'. Now that I've got that down the next one I do will incorporate a wider range of stuff. Glad ya dug it. Later on!
Hey Eltuddo, really nice use of the piano and synth loops. Man, I should let you go through all of my unfinished tracks and let you work some magic on them, haha. I can't build a hip hop track to save my life, so I am thrilled that you were able to do such a great job with the loops. Keep up the terrific work. Excellent beat my friend, excellent.
thanks. and you did most of the work. i just added drums and messed around a little bit with some synths. the loops are dope. i think that this is one of my favortie tracks i have done in a while. so thank you, and keep posting loops and im sure i will use another one. peace.
Hey Daniel, it's been a while (about a year I think). I hope you have been well. I dropped by for an acoustic guitar lesson and I wasn't disappointed. Magnificent playing, as usual.
Really a wonderful piece. Hope 2011 is a great year for you and yours.
Steve, it has been way too long. You and Alexander are in rare form on this one. I absolutely love it.
I will be honest the first minute of the song pales in comparison to the rest of the track. I'm not so sure you shouldn't bump the volume of the pads just a bit. I know you wanted a build, but the pads seem almost too far back in the mix. Also seems just a tad thin on the bottom end but that just might be my speakers.....
But that is just nit picking on my part my friend. This one is radio ready as it sets. Not sure I agree with my friend Glocke on this one being predictable, haha. Nothing you do is predictable my friend (he needs to check out your video of you playing sax in the bathroom, hehe).
I hope you and the family had a wonderful holidays. We had a great time here for our first Christmas in the desert. Big change from the Oregon Coast. I'm still hanging tough (I think my insurance company would prefer I didn't, hahaha).
Anyway Steve, my best to all and tell Alexander he did a great job as usual on this one. Here's to 2011 being one of your best years ever.
Hi Barry, great to hear from you mate! I'm so pleased you have had a wonderful holiday with your family. I suppose the pad intro is me in a way trying to create a peaceful scene before it's gets shattered by this crazy car chase which was going on in my head as the song developed. I will look into doing several different mixes before I reach the final decision. After listening back again I'm feeling the drums need a bit more level in places also. Your thoughts are always welcome as is your friendship...
Cotton, this is off the charts my friend. Wow. What sucks is 9 people downloaded it and didn't even take the time to drop a thank you or a comment. This is really top notch production work. Great mix.
I'm no expert on hip hop, but I do know talent when I hear it and you got talent. Well done my friend. Really well done. Keep making music.
Nicely done. I can hear a band like Coldplay doing this one. They would probably replace part of the guitar work with piano, but it is definitely something they would jump on. Careful, they do steal music.....just ask Satch.
Anyway, very nice track and it's set up nicely for vocals. Well done.
My friend this is really good. The composition is tremendous. If that is you on the piano, you have my admiration. Like Influx said, when the bass drops, wow, that is a magical moment. My compliments to the vocalist as well.
Terrific track from start to finish. Excellent work.
thank you ever so much, glad you liked the song.and yo i did everything on the song, except for lead guitar and vocals.used sonar4 producer ed.thanks again.
I have to be honest here, I think your version is better. Sometimes the acoustic covers of songs turn out so much better because of the sense of intimacy they provide the listener.
Once again you prove just how damned talented you are. Man, you ever need a limo driver, just let me know. You can jump on the Bus and we'll tour the world.
Fantastic interpretation of a great song. Another to favs.
Well, this is so good on so many levels....production, vocals, guitar, mixing, mastering....hard to find appropriate words to describe it. Your vocal styling is definitely current and I'd say you are radio ready. Not sure why you are on Looperman and not famous by now.....
but I'm glad you are. I definitely added this one to favorites. There are songs that stay with you long after the faded ending...
This is one of those songs.
Bravo my friend, absolutely stunning. Thanks for sharing.
Man, Trax, you are just so good at this. Your productions are about as good as they get. Not sure how you manage to set everything so perfectly in the mix, but you always do.
I love syncopation. And it is probably one of the most difficult concepts to teach young people. I too am a father and I admire you for involving your daughter in the composition process and music in general. This is a great track with even greater motivation.
Kudos for a job well done. Outstanding effort. Like John said, it just ended too soon for me.
There were parts of this I really liked and parts I was not so fond of. A few of the chord progressions just seemed to dissonant and out of place. It was almost like listening to several different songs in one setting. I think most people (I'm no expert, so this is only my humble opinion) like continuity in their music.
My suggestion would be to end the song at the 4:15 mark and then take the next section and make it an entirely different song. It just doesn't fit the theme you created with the first 4 minutes.
I think you have elements in here that would work well by themselves, but don't work together. In this case, the sum of the parts just doesn't quite equal a whole.
Please don't take this as being overly critical. There is a lot of good stuff in this track. It just needs to be better organized.
OK, young Jedi, after 83 listens, I think it's about time someone gave you a review. First off, you have skills. You just need some development and seasoning :)
I would suggest you sign up for every choir class available in school. I mean every last class you can find. What that will do is help you with pitch, breathing, phrasing, reading music, etc. I would also suggest you listen to some of the great hip hop artists on Looperman and study their phrasing, tempo, dynamics, flow. If you have questions, contact them and ask away. They will be happy to help you out.
Just keep doing what you are doing. Most people your age are sitting around playing video games and have no clue. You are developing a skill that will follow you through your entire life.
Well done. Hopefully the next review will come before the 186th listen :)
thanks, yeah i know i need some practice. i am in choir at school, and i do pretty well. What i believe i'm doing, is singing with my throat instead of my diaphragm. so i will look for help. thanks for the review!
Great track. The only thing I was missing was a bit more bottom end on it. Seems like it is a little thin on the bass side of things. Other than that, it's a pretty solid effort. Nicely done.
I like this one...it has an east meets west feel to it. It sounds like a Chinese 5-string pipa in the background, and that really gives it an eastern flavor. This is a really creative track, especially combining elements from all over the world.
I would have loved a smoother ending, but that's just me trying to find something to nit pick, haha.
While this is a great composition, what sets this one apart from the norm is the crystal clear production. The mix on this one is text book perfect. Everything in the right spot, aligned perfectly in the musical spectrum. Extremely well done from start to finish.
