on U4L (Tom Smylez feat Lilly Mila) by TomSmylez
Tom...This is epic! I really like the opening melodies. You are a very talented musician. The Cinematic feel is very enticing. When you drop the house stuff the melodies really start to shine. Awesome progressions. One thing I would like to hear would be some chord hits behind that hard lead, . The vocals sound great, too. I totally agree with you about how sweet it is when its just her and the keys at the end. Very progressive, very skillful. I would like to hear it fully mastered. I would be happy to do that for you, just lemme know.

***Reply***

I just need the wav file to master, I think the mix is good on this one.

Great Tune, Friend!~ Cheers!

Thanks! =) The track was made in 2007, first tryout with vocals so, yes, mastering is a bit "not so finalized", I agree. It was a theme song so i tried to create something with a carrying melody. thanks to Lilly, this was possible.

I dunno what you need for mastering, actually only got the final track left, not the song parts separately so i guess a good mastering wont be possible ?

Thanks again for the great review! =D

on I Aint Playin by KorruptDialect
This is tight, Kurrupt. UK hip hop sounds bad ass when its done rigtht. This is a perfect example. Sweet rhymes and the beat is hittin like a mofo.

Cheers from the U.S.

BTW

I used this pella on a dubstep track. I'd like to hear what you think.

The melody in this song is epic!. I like how the drums have a gallop to em. The vocal samples you chose fit real nice, cant go wrong with a hot sounding chick in your song. lol.
I would like the drums a little more in front of the rest of the composition. but that is a matter of opinion, the melody being in front works well, too.

Awesome track, Trance. Cant wait to here more

PS These days I do mostly dnb and dubstep, but I have an old trance song on my site, I'd like to hear what you think of it.

on Wish Of Death by JaNgLz
Nice production. Real Thick.I like the keys in the intro a lot. The drum samples are spot on, very tight compression too. The bass kind of teases you by not coming in for a long time. I was thinking in my head "Where's the bass" and then it comes... ha ha! I like the wobble it sounds kind of industrial. What Programs do you use? The only things I could say I would like to hear more of are 1)play with the filter modulator rate and filter range a little more. and 2) The index of the synth on the bass sound can be put to very good use. I use reason to create my bass patches, so I do not know what other synth programs would call it. but it makes a pitch shift in the synth as a layer, i guess... I dont really knwo how to describe its effect, but it makes for great dubstep bass when automated in blocks. Other than that this track is sweet. The production is thick and robust, and the melody is very nice. Great job, Janglz!

****Reply*****

DnB is my first love as well. kudos`

I use maelstrom to create basses,.... I know that is backwards but hear me out...First of all, its just easier to use once you get to know the machine. I like how easy it is to apply new layers on the fly.

Now on the maelstrom there is a slider in both synth oscillators labeled index. if you automate that slider on your mid range oscillator(or the one that wobbles, if you do it like I do where there is one synth wobbling and another synth designated to super sub freqs). I like to try to automate the index slider in 1/4 or 1/2 blocks, if you will. This gives each phrase of the bass line a little different character, which makes the overall arrangement more progressive.

You can also make it work with wobble effect in modulator A, just make sure you automate the rate on both modulators the same...if that makes sense.

I have been using reason since it came out and I would strongly suggest ditching the subtractor and learning the Maelstrom, I think it is far superior to the subtractor.

And I have played with Thor enough to get a decent wobble, but man that machine is confusing and it kind of breaks me down just looking at it, So I usually talk myself out of getting to know that one. With that being said...It is def the most customizable synth in the suite.

But, just like old jeans, I just cant quit the Maelstrom, We've had too many good times! ha ha.

Anyway, I hope this helps. I cant wait to hear more of your stuff!

on Pirates and Loot (Warrior EP) by GrimalBeatz
Really diggin this tune, Pirates! I like the symphonic feel. Awesome work on the drums. I feel like if you added a thin dirty mid range wobble in there somewhere. It would compliment the over all feel of the track. Great arrangement, friend. keep it up!

on Endless Love - Electro Cut by TomSmylez
Really diggin this one Tom. I like the groovy laid back intro. Nice percussion work there btw. Then the old skool chords...very nice. I really like the melodies you put together...very epic, very trance inducing. I like it a lot.
TomSmylez
TomSmylez replied Unknown
I think then the 7days delay here is over I ´ll post the piano version of that track. The melody was much more complex and intense but as an electro, it was not possible to "take over" the entire melo, only some measures to make it more "light" and "clubby".

Thanks for the cool review =D

on Amalgamation Final by BluntsAndBeats
Blunts...this is freakin' amazing! Awesome 8bit tumbles in there. The melody is epic, I like when you thicken it up with the synth guitars. The production is nice and robust, too. Definately diggin the dubstep beat and bass (great wobble and tone on the bass, BTW) with all the trancy synth pads.... Its like cinematic dubstep. I like how everything kind of sounds re-sampled. Great work!

on Jigglebutt by Karnivll
Not bad for a first try. Definately got the bass right. I would have to agree with ET on the compression and EQ, Try adding a M-Class EQ to the hardware device on your digital rack. Turn on param 2 adjust the frequency to around 3 kHz(or play with until preferred sound is achieved), and turn the parametric nob all the way down, then play with gain until you get a crisper sound without clipping. (note: you can do this on individual tracks, too. such as the drum track and the bass to make the single track a little crisper. Try slappin an m-class compressor on the drums and tweakin' around with the nobs to get the snare attack on par with the kick (go for a low threshold, no soft clip, and play with the ratio, attack and release.) Also, if you leave the reason mix low when you export, it makes a lot more room for master compression and EQ). I usually also right click on the hardware device, select "create effect", then select 8-band parallel compression. This should really thicken up your sound, too.

The song is great! its got nice wobble and pitch work, I would like to hear you play with the rate a little more on the oscillator, but this is just preferrence. All in all this is an awesome first attempt. If you get the Muff out it will surely rock!

keep em comin!

~Cheers!~

Very eerie track. Really diggin the bells in the middle! and the distorted cello sounding pad ties everything together. By the way are the drum samples homebrewed?

Man both of the Designated Earth tracks are very fun to listen to. I am really liking what you are doin with the pads in this one. It seems there may be a little too much compression. ... dude, I dont know if this is intentional but towards the end when the orchestral loop comes in the are these weird analog clicks on the loop. they sound awesome! so if you meant to good job!

Awesome track friend!
